Build your own burger with fries
    C Daniel C.

Wanted to try something new for dinner while we were in Kansas City for work. We decided to take the street car down to the River Market area to see what we could find. When we saw the sign for Pigwich we knew we had to get it. It was amazing! I had the build your own burger with fries and my friend had the Zombie Pig. They were both awesome! Well seasoned, tons of toppings, and the fries were cooked to perfection. So glad we found this place for dinner!

Low quality fast food joint. I'd avoid unless you're desperately hungry and don't mind a heavy stomach for the rest of your day. Food is prepared quickly. Staff are efficient. Tons of indoor and outdoor seating available. Got Nashville hot chicken sandwich, brisket sandwich, and homemade chips. Homemade chips were the highlight! Reminded me of childhood, when I used to fry thinly shaved potato slices. So greasy, salty and satisfying! A perfect indulgence! Soooo salty that you don't need any condiments--you can just enjoy the chips straight and then spend the whole day chugging water. Nashville chicken sandwich was just okay. Brisket sandwich was a let down--just three greasy slices of meat on a bun with three pickles. Just bland bread, overly sweet BBQ sauce, and greasy yet dry meat. Do not recommend.

If only took 3 years and several different BBQ joints to find on in KC that I would say is very good and should be on a return food trip. I had the BBQ pork brisket without the BBQ sauce. After all if it any good you shouldn't need BBQ sauce. The portions were adequate for a sandwich and the meat was tender (but not falling apart) and moist. Had a great flavor. I did try the BBQ sauce and while it was also good the sandwich did not need it. Only issue I had was that I did not care for the pickles on the sandwich, but this is a BBQ place not a pickle place. Ordered the sandwich at the counter and within 5 or so minutes my name was being called. Too bad they only offer sandwiches, would liked to have tried some of their other offerings, but I guess there is always next time. Will definitely be remembering Pigwich and make it part of my food stops in KC.

What is a visit to the City Market without stopping by Pigwich for a brisket sandwich? This is BBQ central, and I find comfort in the simple plating and atmosphere. It always feels like that place you go because it's consistently good. A staple for a reason. People are always friendly and the food tastes great.

Delicious food! I loved the fries and enjoyed my sandwich. My husband got a sausage sandwich that he really enjoyed as well. Quick service! We received our food within 15 minutes of ordering. They had a garlic aoli and a sriracha aoli that were both delicious.

Great pricing, options, and vibe. Food was outstanding and service was very helpful with food allergies.

Had it at the airport.expensive and terrible. We wanted it to be good, but it taste like it's not even meat.

Hard clump of chips that you can't eat.

TL;DR: Big Pig was legit. Shortened my lifespan a couple months. Chips were not good. Found this place on Yelp during my trip to KC and wanted a good ol' sandwich that only KC would have. They are located in City Market so good for a tourist like me to find and check out the neighborhood. City Market is good but not like Pike Place or Dumbo for food options and vibe. Ordered the Big Pig which was barbecue pulled pork with fried chicken and cheese and bbq sauce. This sandwich was awesome. Delicious, probably too many calories to want to know and yeah, probably shortened my life a little but may be worth it. The downside of my meal was the in store made chips. They were really hard and tough to chew. I even had four "clumps" which were about 3 or four slices of potato that no fed together so it was a hard piece of mass and uneatable. Sorely disappointed. The sandwich kept the good score but the disappointment downgraded the experience. Somewhat small complaint is that their soda machine ran out of ice so drank warm soda too. But overall good experience and would recommend. Maybe you'll have a better batch of chips.

Pigwich was a fantastic barbecue restaurant. I had a brisket sandwich which was phenomenal. It was juicy and very messy, which is what you look for in a barbecue sandwich. I also got the sweet potato fries. They were coated in sugar and were excellent! My husband got the fried chicken sandwich and barbecue dusted potato chips. This sandwich was huge and full of flavor! The chips were the perfect compliment. Pigwich must go on your list of barbecue places to try while in Kansas City!

4.5 stars Tons of food options and i got the brisket sandwich + fries Good - bread of the sandwich made the whole item. The pork brisket was good, reminded me of elevated bacon. The crunchiness of the pickles and toppings helped add texture. It was a solid sandwich and i would go back to try the burgers and the pulled pork - fries were airy and perfectly cooked. The pint easily could feed 2-3 people. Only downside is they add a bit too much sugar to the fries otherwise they are perfect Tons of seating both indoors and outdoors. Love the homemade sauces as well

So I went to the Pigwich after I found out their meat came from the Local Pig. So I knew that the meat was going to be fresh. And indeed it was. I got the special for the day which was a burnt end sandwich and was sooooo good! The fries were crispy and fresh and we loved the atmosphere. They had a place the kids can play on and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is perfect in the warmer months. The service was quick and the server was great.

Came here on a Saturday had a big pig, cheesesteak, and a barbecue sandwich. Would say that they're stupid little fries some of the best I've had. French fries standard. The cheesecake is not actually cheesecake. It's a chopped cheese sandwich. Everything tasted decent not the best. I would avoid the chicken sandwiches as it is a Ground. Chicken turned into a patty and fried.

Yes, they aren't a dedicated kitchen but they do offer some things that are gluten free.

What is the BYOB rules for Pigwich? Looking to come check this out this afternoon!

They are cool with BYOB. Tips the staff with some beers and they will love you, at least from my experience

It's an a super old building and I would classify it as a dive bar. Street parking is available. They do have bar seat, some indoor seating, and a fairly large outdoor patio area. Everything was clean and the service was excellent and everyone was friendly. They offer beer, wine, and soft drinks. I stuck with beer because they have Guinness on tap and I won't pass that up. Prices for drinks are extremely reasonable. The sandwiches are fantastic. I went with Bob's Italian sub: salami, ham, turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion, American and provolone cheese, dressing, on a steamed Italian roll. I opt for double the meat which made the sandwich a whopping 10 ounces. Did I need to double it? No, but I like a giant sandwich and I have no regrets. The sandwich itself was delicious, I liked the combination and I would definitely order it again and highly recommend it. With the double meat the price was $12.95. All of the prices were well under what you normally see and is a welcome reprieve from $20 burgers and sandwiches without sides. They offer regular deli type sides but I went for a bag of pickles because who doesn't love a bag of pickles? They have other sandwich options including vegetarian and build your own. Definitely worth stopping in to have a Sammy and a brew. I'll be going back for sure!

You seated yourself and there were a couple of people at the bar and maybe a few people at another table inside when we arrived. The woman from the bar took shortly after we sat down. I originally ordered the Muffaletta and was excited to try it since I moved here from NOLA a couple of years back but it's pre-made and the bread can't be toasted which is my preference so I changed to the KC Rueben which is $12.95 for the sandwich with no side. I chose not to add a side for extra cost. I also requested it with no 100O island dressing because I do not like it. It was good. The burnt ends were flavorful and I like that the slaw is vinegar based and not overly sweet. It can on tasted deli sz bread cut in half. I wasn't very hungry so I only ate half and saved the other half. It is not a great sandwich to save because it was not great as a leftover. Too squishy. There's not a large amount of burnt ends and with a small tip and tax (I just got water), I spent about $17. I think I will probably try something else next time. My friends liked their Reuben's and build your own sandwiches.

What really stood out right away was the service. The lady taking our orders was incredibly nice and personable, and she actually took the time to walk us through the menu to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. I went with the #5, which is their version of a Sicilian Muffuletta. It was phenomenal. It's stacked with mortadella, salami, provolone, ham, and Swiss cheese, topped perfectly with a red wine vinaigrette chopped olive salad, all sitting on a beautifully toasted seeded loaf. One of my friends ordered the #20 Reuben, and it was a masterpiece. We're talking melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu corned beef, legit sauerkraut from Brooklyn, house-made Russian dressing, and melty Swiss, all piled high between two buttery, toasted slices of marble rye bread. Naturally, I also grabbed a couple of their homemade chocolate chip cookies, and we got a raspberry and blueberry tiramisu that was absolutely terrific. You just can't leave a place like this without hitting the dessert menu! I consider myself very lucky to have experienced this spot. Bay Boy is THAT Boy! I'm thrilled to have another location of Bay Boy in the Northland, which is…read moresuch an up and coming neighborhood. This Bay Boy is a small window located inside The Commons which is connected to Cinderblock Brewery but, don't be fooled by its small stature it still carries the full menu of the West Plaza location. The one thing it boasts is you can grab a brew from with The Commons bar or from Cinderblock while your sandwich is crafted. And don't fret because these sandwiches are well worth any wait they may take! What makes Bay Boy utterly unforgettable is the Dutch crunch bread. This unique crackly slightly crunchy but still, oh so pillowy soft bread is the perfect vessel to hold all the fillings of any of the sandwiches on the extensive menu. My number one recommendation sadly is not always on the menu but if you catch it you better order it! It is called The Blue Blaze and it consists of juicy white meat turkey, peppery arugula, melty mild white cheddar and locally sourced spicy blueberry jam. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory with a kick. Another winner is the Wagyu Nebraskan if you want a bougie take on a Rueben. The Wagyu corned beef is locally sourced and is melt in your mouth paired with a slightly sweet kraut, nutty Swiss cheese and the tangy thousand island this sandwich is an elevated take on a classic. Another winner, well let's just face it any sandwich at Bay Boy is a winner winner chicken dinner (in the words of the iconic Guy Fieri), but let's focus on another rift of a classic sandwich the El Jefe. This is Bay Boy's take on a Cubano but unlike its predecessor the bread isn't flat or pressed it's on a Dutch crunch roll like every sandwich on the menu. The mojo pork is buttery and fatty- in a good way- making the meat so moist that combined with salty ham, melted Swiss and zingy briny pickles makes for a killer combination. Don't forget the mustard! And how Bay Boy makes it there own is with an addition of a zesty vibrant red pepper sauce. You can't help but to love El Jefe. I could go on and on about how each sandwich is unparalleled but, I'll just bore you with one more...The Bay Boy, I couldn't cover Bay Boy's without mentioning the sandwich that the restaurant was named after (or was it the other way around) anyways it doesn't matter. The Bay Boy is a cold sandwich (unlike the other ones I mentioned which are all toasty) which may sound simple but, the medley of flavors is paired down perfection. No pile of meats just stand alone Soppressata which shouldn't need any introduction because it's the superior salami. This sandwich gets sauced down with not one, not two but four sauces that make the sandwich anything but dry. Classic mayo and mustard are alongside a creamy pungent garlic sauce and a red pepper sauce, which is a mix of cherry and banana peppers. Then produce is added for freshness, think lettuce, tomato and zippy raw red onions (my personal favorite) with pickles of course! This truly is a sandwich masterpiece.

It's a walk-up window, super lowkey, but the food is not playing. I got a turkey sandwich with gouda and peppers, added blueberry jam, and grabbed a bag of chips on the side. The bread is really what sets it off. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and it actually holds everything together. The turkey and gouda were solid, peppers gave it a little bite, and that blueberry jam added just enough sweetness to balance everything out without being weird about it. I paused after the first bite because it caught me off guard in a good way. Finished the whole thing, chips and all. Simple setup, really good food, and I'll absolutely be back.

I thought the brisket sandwich was fairly tasty, but it wasn't huge, the onions weren't carmelized they were grilled, and the brisket wasn't smokey. The Mac and cheese was fine and good but not great. If I lived closer and I could get the above with a soda for $20-23, I would give it 4 stars.
