I get a south and west facing sun. My unit is 50 years old and the wall between the back room and the garage is not insulated so the backroom gets warmer than the rest of the house. I contacted Advanced Installations in Indio, CA and they came out and did a great job. From what I can gather the garage temp is 5 to 10 degrees cooler. I will continue to monitor the temperature but I am very pleased with how the insulation was finished off. I had the R38 insulation with the fire retardant liner installed. A little background - I called the number on the main Quiet Cool website and spoke to the main manufacturing location. They are the one's that supply the fan's and I guess they just recently started doing installs. They were very unhelpful and had no idea what they were doing. I got discouraged, as they said our house could not have a fan due to our attic makeup. I had to hunt these guys down to get answers, it was like pulling teeth. So please, avoid the main manufacturing company for the installation and just go to the quiet cool guys. Cut to now, I searched quiet cool on yelp because I wanted to give the manufacturing guys mentioned above a bad review and that is when i found the quiet cool guys. So thankful for the quiet cool guys! I called and right away was met with professionalism and could tell they knew what they were doing. They scheduled us for a complimentary evaluation within a few days and had confidence that our attic would be able to fit the fan. They are the ones who have been installing the Quiet Cool products for many years and they have seen it all! We had Misael, Erik and Victor come out. They checked out our attic, answered my many questions and set us up for an appointment to do both insulation and a whole house fan install, within that same week. They came back for the install and the whole process took about 6 hours. They respected my want for no shoes in the house and they carefully laid plastic down in any area they would be walking. They did the install, gave us a tutorial, again answered my many questions and cleaned up very nicely. Instead of simply ordering the right replacement lid, I was told one false story after another: that Glacier Bay was a "better option," that Mansfield toilets are "no longer made," that lids were "sold out," and even that Mansfield doesn't meet California water standards. None of that is true. In less than five minutes, I found the exact Mansfield 163 lid from a reputable seller that specializes in toilet lids and covers. The cost is $69 plus $6.04 tax and $18.95 shipping -- $93.99 total. That's still under the $100 they offered me. If anything, this makes their excuses worse. Instead of taking responsibility and acting on their own, they never reached out again until I called them. Reading other reviews, I noticed a pattern: the owner's responses are often defensive, rude, and unprofessional. My experience matches that. What should have been a quick, honest fix turned into misleading claims and me having to do all the legwork they should have done.
