There is plenty of activities for the kids such as the splash pad and face painting. The Sandy Springs police were out and about securing the area so we could enjoy. We loved sitting in the rocking chairs and swings. It was such a beautiful event to see all diverse of African Americans and other races taking apart of this wonderful event.

THE DECATUR CAMERA COURT RACKET: What I Learned Today…read more I just walked out of the City of Decatur Municipal Court (420 W. Trinity Pl) regarding an automated school zone camera ticket from Blue Line Solutions (a private company out of Tennessee). I didn't go to save the $85; I went as an observer to see how the system operates. What I witnessed is a total revenue racket designed to protect profit over logic. 1. The "Non-Driver" Loophole (How to Beat the Ticket)Before my case was called, I watched a line of about 8 or 9 people walk completely free with immediate, unquestioned dismissals. By Georgia law, these cameras can only photograph the back of your car--they cannot legally photograph your face. The law presumes the registered owner was driving. However, if you show up and state under oath that you were not the person operating the vehicle at that time, the city's case instantly collapses. The court cannot legally force you to name who was driving. They keep this loophole incredibly quiet because if everyone knew it, the camera program would go bankrupt overnight. 2. A Biased Courtroom & Rushed JusticeWhen it was my turn, I admitted I was the driver but laid out a flawless logistical defense. I was caught at 3:38 PM--nearly 50 minutes after Westchester Elementary dismissed, meaning the street was completely clear of kids or buses. I was boxed into the center lane by heavy traffic, with a massive landscape trailer physically blocking my line of sight to the roadside sign over the crest of the hill.Instead of evaluating the physical reality of the road, the judge openly snickered and mocked my testimony in front of the courtroom for stating I was "pickled" by traffic. Her only response was, "All I know is the system says it was working, and you can't prove it wasn't." They force you to prove a negative while their out-of-state vendor rakes in cash. 3. The 2027 Law Change Is a Red HerringThe judge kept repeating to everyone in the room that the Georgia Legislature passed a new law (HB 651) making flashing lights mandatory alongside cameras by July 2027. But as she proved today, that change is completely irrelevant to them. If the lights fail during a storm and you cannot physically prove they were dark, they will still rule against you and take your money anyway. The Bottom Line: I watched this court clear an estimated $1,500 to $2,000 in fines in just a 90-minute window. It would cost me over $200 in non-refundable filing fees to appeal this to the DeKalb County Superior Court, which is exactly how they trap you--making it more expensive to fight them than to just pay the fine. If you get one of these tickets in the mail, do not just pay it online. Look at the back of the ticket, find the Affidavit of Non-Responsibility, and use the framework the law left open for you. While we didn't see most of the city I was not surprised to come across a mural paying homage to the historic Atlanta rap scene. I actually figured we would see a few more. If you know me, you know I am a hardcore fan of Georgia Tech basketball. At schools like UNC and…read moreDuke, they have "Midnight Madness" to usher in the start of the new basketball season. "Jacket Jam" is Georgia Tech's version. It took place this past Sunday at the brand new McCamish Pavilion. This was the inaugural event at Tech's new on-campus basketball arena and it was free to the public. The first 2,000 fans got free t-shirts. Since the men and women's team had been playing "away" from home all of last season (at Philips Arena and Gwinnett Arena), the teams' return to campus plus a $50 million renovated arena was reason enough to make this event spectacular, "over the top" almost. For the better part of the last decade, this event was called HoopsFest. It consisted of a men's, and possibly women's, scrimmage plus an autograph session at the end. This year's event was much different. New coaches, new arena, new attitude, I suppose. It was a big production, like a giant pep rally, complete with the entire Georgia Tech marching band, Buzz, the cheerleaders, the Gold Rush dance team, baton twirlers, step dancers from Alpha Phi Alpha, a DJ, and more. The new HD video and ribbon boards, theatrical lighting, spot lighting, and sound system were also put to the test and on full display for everyone to see. The entire men's and women's teams were introduced one-by-one in grand fashion. They ended their introductions with a performance of Gangnam Style. After the dog and pony show ended, the teams did not scrimmage. Instead, different players from the men's and women's teams teamed up and represented different sections of the arena in a three-point shootout competition. Georgia Lottery BOGO (buy one, get one) coupons went to the winning sections. Thoughout the competition, various players and the head coaches were interviewed. The event ended with the player and coaches' meet-and-greet where free posters were handed out and fans could get autographs and photos taken with the team. The entire event was broadcast live and archived on ESPN3. Hopefully, Jacket Jam will continue for many years to come. If you're a Georgia Tech supporter, then you already know about this event. If you're just a casual fan looking for something fun and free to do, Jacket Jam is definitely worth checking out. It's a fun way to spend a couple hours.

A couple of kids were climbing on it which looked extremely unsafe. Thankfully, there is a caption: In this modern world, where we constantly feel more connected through advancements in technology, I believe that we are simultaneously disconnected as a result of these devices. By using public art as a vehicle for expressing contemporary issues concerning communication I see the concept for my work becoming more relevant every day. Through the radiating spokes of my abstracted satellite forms I hope to engage the viewers' curiosity and invite public interaction. Dealing with issues of communication in my own life I have realized this is a struggle that many of us encounter. As I think about the idea of communication I realize that I can internalize this issue, or make it as broad as the world around me. How can we better communicate ourselves to the world? That is the question. These forms seem to remind us of some type of foreign communication device. Appendages reaching outward to send or receive signals from others, it is difficult to discern whether it is from the future or the past, and how well it served its purpose. We may also decide that these devices illustrate an overwhelming desire to be understood in our own efforts of communication. The examination into the roles we play and the quality of our own personal relationships is the intention of these forms. These devices may be tangible evidence of how communication succeeds or fails in our own lives and in the lives of others. The artwork is part of The Decatur Artway and is presented by the Decatur Arts Alliance in partnership with the Decatur Tourism Bureau and the Decatur Downtown Development Authority. The TASTE Network, hosts wine and cheese pairing events at great venues all over Atlanta. What makes this unique is that each event is at a new location with new pairings. Some of the events are for charity, loft openings, or just to mingle with new people. All of the events are informative, engaging, and absolutely fun! If you're new to wine, or don't know much about them, Brady has an excellent way of teaching you about them. He can show you what to look for, how to taste it, and which cheeses or other dishes to pair with it. And if you're a connoisseur, you'll love to try the wines from all over the world. I can't say enough good things about the TASTE Network. I have learned a lot, tasted a lot of good wines, and made some new friends.
