I've been here a few times and have been pretty happy with this place. I'm glad that there's finally a boba joint in the Brookline area. When I first came here, I didn't know it was a franchise and was pretty surprised! I love how they have some pretty unique to themselves drinks and most of all... their dual cups! Absolutely genius. I saw this concept back home in California so it's exciting to have it here in Boston as well! I got honeydew milk tea and honey green tea with lychee jelly and it was pretty good! A little pricey but worth to get once in a while. My only concern/complaint was that this place didn't have a bathroom. It's a drink place. People are bound to have to use the restroom. As a self-proclaimed bubble tea connoisseur, I am picky with my bubble tea selection and in my humble opinion, each bubble tea shop in Boston has their own 'specialty' that makes them stand out..some might have better milk drinks, tea drinks, unique toppings, and the list goes on. For TBaar, that specialty comes from the fragrant jasmine based tea that comes through in their milk teas. My favorite goto drinks here are their Sea Salt Foam Green Tea with 50/70% sugar and their Jasmine Green Tea with White Pearls with reduced sugar. Okay, I'm into TBaar. This is a cute little location on Beacon St in Brookline. I was pretty much sold when I saw all the adorable bubble tea plushes in their window display. TBaar does it all: milk tea, milk foam tea, fruit tea, lemonade, smoothies, and fresh juices. Brown sugar milk tea is all the rage right now because of the brown sugar caramel/syrup streaks along the inside of the cup for aesthetics. It IS sweet but brown sugar is sweet and has it's own distinct sweetness. It's a wonderfully decadent drink and I am digging that smoky flavor from the brown sugar. I would love the brown sugar milk tea for dessert. I like the contrast of the warm tapioca pearls and brown sugar with the cold milk. What I appreciate about TBaar is they use fresh fruits in their special fruit teas. I went all out and tried the fresh dragon fruit tea - unfortunately it is pricey at $7.95 before tax. It was delicious and refreshing though and makes for a great summertime treat. I liked the sweetness and I loved all the fresh dragonfruit chunks. It definitely beats the mango dragonfruit refresher from Starbucks even though it is more expensive. A solid cafe to satisfy your bubble tea cravings! I've been to TBaar a few times mainly due to proximity, but I've always been very pleased with my experience. The prices are very reasonable, and there are many flavors to choose from. The space itself is cute and cozy, with a green and wooden theme. There are a few low tables of 4 and a couple tiny high tops for 2 people. I've usually been able to find seating even if it's pretty crowded. I really enjoy chilling here. There are a bunch of games that you can play while sipping on some sweet bubble tea. The tea itself is good, but nothing spectacular. What draws me to TBaar is the vibe and hangout area. I finally found a MATCHA CREPE CAKE that is as good as Lady M's crepe cake. I heard their crepe cake is made with rice flour. Not bad for $8 a slice. My friend got the Honey Jasmine Green Tea and liked the slight bitterness and not too sweet. I liked the Amazing Milk Black Tea which has a strong milk tea flavor. They have the most delicious boba and Thai iced tea. I also really recommend the dragon fruit tea. They are also very very fast! However it is quite pricey here, hence the lost star. I was visiting wholefoods, saw this milk tea place, and was so excited to have some PMT - i hadn't had any for a long time. I ordered their "regular" black bubble milk tea, regular size.... and blergh. Nasty!!! It had almost a sour and chemical taste to it. Pearls were well cooked but it does not cover for the awful tea. Also, I saw the girl making my drink; she let the cup overflow before putting the cup into the top-sealing machine and didn't bother to wipe the excess that was all over on the outside before calling me to get it. I got an oolong tea with milk with pearls. Although the pearls were a good consistency (chewy, but not hard), I was very disappointed by the drink. It was very watery! If you're getting a milk-based drink, the predominant flavor should not be water. It just left me feeling unsatisfied, like there was something missing. This isn't a difficult drink to execute either -- you just add milk to tea. If a bubble tea place can't execute a drink like this, I'd be hesitant to trust them to execute more complex drinks. read more

I've been dying to go to Tbaar because they have the coolest drink. It is every indecisive person's dream. They have a cup that is split in half so you get 2 flavors. It can't be the slushies, but you can get a combination of any of the iced drinks. I picked the iced matcha latte, and Thai tea. They both came with tapioca, and the flavors both tasted great. Very average milk tea. I came with two other Californians and we all agreed that it's just very okay. But, we might be spoiled by high quality real tea milk tea...maybe. I paid about $6.50 for a medium (it was small tho) lukewarm juice and about $4.75 for a large iced black milk tea with boba, plus tax. I patron TBaar usually once a week to fulfill my serious cravings for bubble tea, primary due to their convenient location. Overall, they have a consistency issue. When my drink is made correctly - it's yum. But half the time, there is something off about my order. I want to forgive and forget but the frequency of bad bubble teas keeps getting longer. Tonight, my friend picked up 5 drinks for me and my friends, and no surprise, mine is wrong again. I ordered a large green milk tea with aloe and boba. First, it takes like water with a dash of milk. Gross. There is barely any trace of green tea. Second, there isn't any aloe. Toppings cost extra so I would appreciate if I received what I paid for. Considering the price for a large drink, get it right - please. It's almost $5! A few other notes about TBaar: 1) They use Carnations powdered milk, no fresh milk available 2) Aloe jelly is a great texture but it's not fresh, they store it in the original metal can in their fridge... 3) Boba is a hit or miss. Sometimes it has a great texture with a new chewy-ness but other times, their boba deteriorates and starts to change colors [see photo] 4) Staff makes it seem like an imposition every time my friends and I come in - seriously? My list of grievances keeps getting longer but I'm torn because I do have bubble tea needs. I just don't see the place improving its offering and the staff doesn't seem genuinely apologetic when mistakes happen. Their amazing black milk tea is truly amazing. I tried several milk teas at various bubble tea places and Asian restaurants around the city. None compares to this one. I like how you can actually taste the tea, whereas for many places you taste mostly milk with a hint of tea. Came here yesterday after being handed a flyer for a BOGO grand opening promotion. They offer BOGO on 4 options - I went in and asked for the bubble milk green tea and the hot matcha with red bean. I can't remember the other two options, but they didn't sound too appealing. First of all, it was chaotic - they had about 7 people squeezed behind the counter frantically trying to figure out the register and making drinks. There were maybe 4 customers in line. I ordered my drinks and they informed me that they were out of tapioca and that I could substitute for another topping. Okay, you guys are a newly open, bubble tea place and you don't have tapioca?!?! Isn't that the one thing that you should have?? So one of the frantic men from behind the counter tells me to substitute for the white pearls and that they are basically the same thing, but chewier. He could not have been more wrong. Everyone should have a flavor that they get at every bubble tea place so they can reasonably compare the different places. For us, mine is coconut and the boyfriend's is taro. I have to say in general coconut rarely ever fails me and this place was no exception. The coconut with red bean was soo good. The coconut flavor was strong and the red beans were abundant and not too mushy. The taro, however, tasted fairly watered down and artificial. The perks of this place, however, is how many options they have, ranging from regular bubble teas to fruit juices and smoothies, which I definitely have to come back and try. They were able to adjust the sweetness of the jasmine milk tea. There is both inside and outdoor dining tables. The inside is cute with low ceilings and tall tables. They have stuffed animals inside a wall of Polaroid pictures (much like Kung-Fu tea). They play Taiwanese music inside. From the outside, you can see a little window with a bunch of super cute boba plushies. The jasmine milk green tea with grass jelly was good but not as good as most places I've had. I'm not the biggest fan of their milk teas, however, their juices and smoothies are a different story; they're delicious! I've had their TBaar Milk Tea, Coconut Milk Tea, Thai Iced Tea and the Panda Milk Green Tea, and all are mediocre and a bit watery.. (perhaps there's a consistency issue here? not sure). I also remember ordering the Honeydew Milk Tea the first time I visited, and it was terribly powdery... HOWEVER, I decided to give TBaar one more chance and ordered the mango smoothie instead. I was impressed by how flavorful and refreshing the smoothie was! My friend ordered the Strawberry & Yogurt drink and also really enjoyed it. I guess smoothies are my go-to options from now on. This location is also very cozy and a great study spot for students. They have many games such as Jenga, cards, or Chinese checkers for those who want a place to hangout and relax.
