Wings are amazing and Moon Flower is one of my favorite places to go when I'm craving fried chicken. Popcorn chicken used to come as a giant heap but is now a much lesser portion. Unfortunate, but understandable due to inflation. Both come out very crispy, properly seasoned, and well breaded. Pistol legs are a hilarious name, but also very good. BBQ chicken wings are not fried but have a delicious saucy glaze on the outside. Service is friendly, but to be fair, I only ever order online so interactions are short and quick. The space inside seems nice enough and there's always people there, but I've always gotten takeout. Looks like a nice spot to sit, eat, and possibly even do some work with ample space. read more

Rating this spot what I'm rating because the fried chicken dishes were the main things I'd order again, compared to everything else. The chicken itself was pretty juicy and crispy, but it tended to be more on the drier side for my personal taste. As for other options, like the fish sandwich and the sausage, they were pretty ordinary to me - and a smidgen overpriced for what they were. Anyway, though the chicken was good, me and the wife experienced a moderate amount of stomach discomfort that we'd like to attribute to this visit - given how this was the only spot we went to for food (and how it was more or less the only meal we had that day). So... hesitant to go back, but might give this joint another chance... just not in the near future. read more

Food - 4.5/5 Their fried chicken is amazing - incredibly juicy, crispy, and well seasoned. It comes out piping hot!! Their fried chicken sandwich is also delicious - with sweet mayo, fresh veggies, and again amazingly crispy chicken. Only thing is their popcorn chicken isn't super traditional - it's basically small fried chicken bites (probably a mix of cornstarch, flour, and something else) versus the Taiwanese original where they use sweet potato starch to fry it. I can't recommend their drinks though - we got a honey green tea and it tasted more like honey water. No worries - Allston has plenty of boba! Ambiance - 4/5 There's five tables that give more of a coffee house vibe than restaurant. It's better than the Chinatown location where there's no seating. I have only really ever had takeout and long distance ChowBus delivery from here, and so can't tell you about much, but the pumpkin cakes are really good, and despite being fried, if I remember correctly, still kept nicely all the way to Lexington and Bedford. I have some difficulty remembering what everything other than what those and the "Zanthoxylum Fried Chicken Sliced" (could of sworn it started with an "x" or something, I swear it did on ChowBus) were like, because the way my priorities played out, those were generally all I got from them, because the portions were generous, if I remember correctly, and fries don't travel well, and my family had yet to discover the airfryer. I don't remember what everything other than those two items were like, because the other things they had, while (probably? I can't remember my preferences towards the pumpkin cakes and chicken slices were so strong that at some point I stopped ordering anything else, especially since the way ChowBus had functioned at the time meant that there was no additional service fee for combining orders from different restaurants) good (and probably excellent if they were fresh, or something) weren't wowing me after half an hour of travel, which I will fully admit is an unreasonable level to hold anything to. I have only done it as a matter of personal/real takeout once, rather than relying on a third party delivery service, but the employee manning the thing (it was when Covid precautions were in play, so we didn't go inside-inside) was swift. I apologize to the restaurant, but I cannot in good conscience give the store five stars without having been inside it, and also having had more than two items that haven't spent over half an hour in a delivery driver's car. At first glance, this place looks tiny, but when I stepped in, I was surprised by how spacious and cute the decor was. It gave off more cafe vibes than a restaurant. It may seem like a fast food type menu, but they have signs saying that you may have to wait around 20 minutes to get the food because they make things fresh. When I found this place on yelp, I was super excited. This is my kinda comfort food. ;The idea of a whole fried baby chicken had me salivating all the way to the store. Prices were pretty reasonable and there were a lot of options. Here's what we got and our thoughts: Fried baby chicken - this was good, especially with the 5 spice like powdery dip that it comes with. It's about the size of your hand and I wouldn't plan on sharing with more than 1 person. BBQ baby chicken - This was not fried and did have some good flavors...but it wasn't for me. There's surprisingly lots of meat on this little chicken. 2 Spicy Chicken sandwiches - I had high hopes for this, as I've been craving to try any and all chicken sandwiches I can get my hands on. I was disappointed. Unlike other places, by the time I got this home, the bread was falling apart easily. The chicken patty itself was kinda pink for my liking, but I still ate it (and regret it later). 2 popcorn chickens - Now this is the star of the day! These were amazing. I ordered 2 orders but got 1 box...so I assumed they just combined it. Really zesty flavored and fried perfectly. Note that it does take 30 minutes for you to get your order. Cute little spot. Presentation is fantastic, the packaging and wrapping is very cute. Food was great, very different from other typical fried chicken spots, which makes it stand out. This is "chinese" style chicken, so its a love it or hate it. Definitely worth a shot if youre tired of the other fried chicken spots. Some of the freshest crispy chicken put into a sandwich and this is it! The chicken does seriously remind me of the KFC chicken you find in China. It really takes you down a nostalgic memory if you've ever had KFC in China. Overall, the chicken sandiwch is really up there with some of the best I've had!! Just so juicy and crispy on the outside. The barbecue wings were just okay, but the fries were really good - potato-y on the inside and crispy shelled. In addition, I thought the cute cartoon with the moon face and flower in hand was super cute and a nice touch to their bags and packaging. I'm on a mission. An important mission to find Bostons best fried chicken and I think I've found it. If you just get the individual wings and drums, the made to order chicken is absolutely divine. The spice and juiciness can't be matched. The other dishes however, were good but not best in Boston material. I heard a lot of people recommending the popcorn chicken but I found it to be similar to any other run of the mill popcorn chicken. Okay I think this might be one of my favorite spots in Allston! The inside is super cute and there is a bunch of seating. There are two long tables with couches as well. There are not many outlets though so this place wouldn't be good for long term studying. They have a variety of fried chicken dishes (including different combos and sides) as well as milk tea/tea/slushes. We came around 2 pm and wanted to get milk tea with boba but they didn't have boba yet, which was unfortunate. We ended up getting a lychee tea with jelly. The tea was kinda perfume-y for me personally but my boyfriend liked it. We also got 2 chicken sandwiches and chicken poppers. It took a little bit for the food to come but it was worth it! The chicken was super yummy and crispy. The sauce the sandwich came with was really good but I wish they gave more. They also only gave three ketchup packets with all of this food so I wish they had more sauce options. I really liked this place overall and will definitely be coming back. First time I had Moon Flower House was when my brother ordered us some of their fried chicken to try. He claimed it was so amazing. The second time I had takeout from Moon Flower House was on Valentine's Day. Dreams do come true. Again, consistently crispy and juicy chicken. The best thing to get here is probably the fried chicken wings. Freshly fried chicken comes with two amazing flavor packages: one spicy and one black pepper. Highly recommend utilizing these amazing flavor spikers! They also provide a pair of plastic gloves like you'd get with a seafood boil. Why doesn't every fried chicken place do this, so I can have my boba and take pictures without having to wipe my hands every other second. Their fried chicken sandwich is not bad, definitely not a bad price, but not a huge serving either. The sandwich definitely tastes freshly made and not as heavy as say a McDonalds fried chicken sandwich. They are definitely serving up an Asian spin on all their menu items. The interior has a few two people tables and two larger group couch seats. So far seems like they are already doing a ton of take out and delivery business, so there is a point down for speed of getting food out during rush hours. I had to wait 15 minutes one day to get one order of chicken and a passionfruit tea. Seems like they could already use a bigger kitchen staff, which is definitely not a bad reflection of their food. If you want a lightly fried version of just the juiciest portion of a rotisserie chicken, moon flower house is for you! Came here after looking for some protein after long run around the BU campus and MFH was the only place open late-ish (10:30PM). We ordered the crispy chicken sandwich (non spicy) and the jasmine tea and mango tea. The chicken here is AMAZING, not too oily, not too breaded, lightly deep fried, and the meat was juicy and tender. Our total order of two large teas and a chicken sandwich came out to less than $20 and the stuff on their menu is fairly affordable (for Boston prices). Warning, the chicken comes piping hot, enough that I almost burned my mouth the first bite so take small bites until it cools down! The mango tea was a tad bit too sweet for my liking (even though I got the least amount of sweetness at 25% sweetness). The jasmine tea however, was not sweet enough (even though we asked fro 50% sweetness) and this was way less sweet than the mango tea... so there is a bit of discrepancy there. Nevertheless, was delicious and paired so well with the juicy, crispy chicken sandwiches. Will be coming back here again to try out the other yummy chicken meals!!
