Im from Kansas and live in Chicago, this place is WORTH it. Top 10 meal experience I have had in…read morethe past decade and I have eaten at 3-Star Michelin rated establishments. I rarely ever write a review but this place is deserving. The quintessential diner experience: waitress bantering with the regulars, home made pie (that you always seem to get the last slice of), perfectly brewed coffee, friendly service, and absolutely delicious food. I would eat here everyday if I could. The entire diner has an overarching feel of nostalgia wrapped in a hug in front of a fireplace? If that makes sense? The Chocolate Creme pie might have been the best piece of pie I have ever had. The soup of the day was incredible, and if you are lucky enough to get a caramel roll, I highly recommend it. The single worst part of this experience was realizing I would not be able to have it again soon as I was traveling through. But you can bet your rear end the next time I am in Bismarck, I am making a drive over to Ohm's Cafe. Arguably might the best diner in America. Food was delicious, not too greasy, homemade, full of flavor, affordable, and just exquisite. However you define this restaurant, I do not care, all I care about is making sure whatever it is, there is more of it.

I kind of understand the appeal because it's sort of like home cooking. The problem is that my…read moremother wasn't that great a cook. The food was pretty bland. The knoephla soup had a ton of knoephla swimming in sweet cream, but no potato or any other flavor. The only redeeming dish we had was the sour cream apple pie. It's not that any of it was bad... it just wasn't all that great. Although I know people who sear by it, so take my opinion with a pinch of pfeffer. Service was quick, and the server was helpful. The ambiance is VERY small town cafe.

I can't get enough of the Daisy pizza (Margherita pizza). I've been eating here almost every other day since December , a habit I plan to continue for the foreseeable future! We were greeted right away as there was no one else in the restaurant. Its an open floor plan with two rooms. Im guessing its quite lively in the evenings. We shared the chopped salad and the Daisy pizza. The salad was good, though not a traditional chopped salad--it used that trendy wild greens mix that so many restaurants are leaning on these days. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, but the menu did specify it, so that one's on me for not paying closer attention. The pizza, however, was absolutely terrific. The crust was soft and chewy with just the right amount of char from the stone oven. The combination of the sauce, cheese, and fresh basil was spot on. They also drizzle a flavored oil over the top--we couldn't quite pinpoint what it was, but it added an extra layer of flavor that really elevated the pizza. We devoured the whole thing--three slices each! At around $20, the pizza might feel a bit pricey, but it's clear that everything is fresh and made from scratch, so it's well worth it. Service was attentive, though we were the only ones there at lunchtime. I imagine this place really comes alive in the evening. I'd definitely come back to try more of the menu--and next time, I'm not sharing my pizza.

Even though I had been back to Bismarck to visit family after moving away I hadn't been back to visit Scotty's. It wasn't until we were visiting this Christmas and drove by that I remembered the place. It was winter so the cool drive up vibe was kinda lost but it had a cool 'no frills' look to the building that is prevalent in that part of town. The inside had been remodeled since my childhood and was less brown than I remembered. The woman at the counter was friendly and when asked explained that the tartar burger got it's name from tartar sauce and was in no way raw. We ordered two deluxe cheeseburgers, fries and the appetizer sampler. The fries were good and crisp and the app sampler was the pile of brown and fried that we had signed up for but the real hit were the burgers. They classified as the fast food type of burger, thin, lacy edged and cooked on a griddle. Unlike bad examples of this style these had a crisp brown crust from the griddle and none of the pale gray hue of a steam table. The onions were sliced paper thin to give flavor without getting in the way of the rest of the burger. All of it was on a soft eggy bun. One other high point was the thick homemade ranch that was provided for the fried food. It was the kind of ranch that is referred to as "the good stuff". Scotty's is a place that delivers exactly what it advertises, good burgers and fries made the well with no frills. I think there might be ice cream there as well, but if you have room left after the burgers and fries you did it wrong.

Ordered a single burger at drive thru and when we got window it was already waiting to be picked up. Now that's a little too fast for me. took first bite and that was the worst burger I have ever had.
