If I could give a zero I would. Sat at bar and my wife and I ordered food along with drinks. After 50 minutes asked bartender how the food is coming. He informed me it would be about another 20 minutes. Trying to be patient as they were busy. When a couple sat next to us knowing all the employees and ordered food that showed up 10 minutes later while we were still waiting the only conclusion I can make is if you're a regular you get special treatment. Never had such a bad experience. The manager tried to explain it by saying they ordered then moved next to us but we heard them order the food so that was a flat out lie. read more

The food, drinks, service, and atmosphere was top-notch. We enjoyed the lamb ribs, bone marrow, bbq shrimp, tuna tartar, and pork belly. My favorites were the lamb ribs and bbq shrimp. My husband loved the lamb ribs, too, and the pork belly, but everything was delicious! The shrimp were the biggest I've ever seen and seasoned to perfection and placed on top of the creamiest grits, the lamb ribs were crisp on the outside and literally fell off the bone. The pork belly was so tender and rich! Our server was friendly, the drinks were perfect, and the creme brûlée was excellent! I loved that it was thinner than most brûlées, so there was more crispy top than cream. They even brought out some meringue especially for my birthday, a much appreciated treat! We love finding new spots nearby and this is one of the best. The place is so nice and the food was amazing. The staff was so helpful. I cannot say enough good things. I will also add that the value is spectacular. If you are thinking about trying the place out I highly recommend you do. I believe you will not regret it. One quick not: plenty of parking! This is the prettiest restaurant on the North shore! May be the Best restaurant, as well. It's so comfortable, sleek, and elegant. Almost a perfect 5 stars except for their choice of music. I think the sound system plays the same music downstairs as upstairs which is a shame because upstairs "should" be more upscale...it just doesn't fit. Aside from the fast beat of the Rolling Stones, we loved our dinner and will be back! I had the Asian Spiced Tuna Tartar appetizer, delicious and flavorful, fresh tuna served on eggroll slices but better to share this one since it was huge. For my entree I selected the Blackened Red Snapper. Perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned fresh piece of red snapper served on a light, spiced cream sauce. My date enjoyed his Yellowfin Tuna Carpaccio which he called "sublime" and the Peking Duck style duck breast. There were only 2 disappointments: our waiter disappeared, we had to ask other staff to find him and at one point I asked for a glass of wine from another wait staff; and the music that was better heard at a bar. We will be back, we will ask for another waiter (sorry I didn't get his name), and next time I want a table near the windows. read more

I will start with what was good about this place. First, the restaurant looks great. Having been to the restaurant in this space prior, I cannot even imagine the amount of work required to transform it to present. Top notch fixtures and details at every turn. We first got some drinks at the bar, which were all great. Several people in our party got the margarita and said it was delicious. We had a reservation for 6 people, and were seated promptly at a nice round table. We were then introduced to two different waiters who would be taking care of our table. This seemed like a good thing at first, but perhaps became the problem later on. We ordered a variety of appetizers, soups, and salads. The crab cake was excellent, and the sweet potato ravioli was light but filling. I could have eaten an entree of just that. Our table ordered a variety of entrees including steaks and fish dishes, along with several side items. The Tchefuncte potatoes were our favorite side, resembling something between a hush puppy and a twice baked potato. There is strangely some pasta and gnocchi side dishes as well, which were good, but nothing rivaling a good Italian restaurant. They also seems a little out of place given the rest of the cuisine. Now on to the bad part and the part that has earned them the two star rating. The service was just barely above tragic. At a restaurant of this caliber (or at least the caliber in which it seems to think it's included) the service needs to be outstanding. If you are going to charge the prices that Tchefuncte's charges, you have to have experienced, attentive, and expert wait staff. I would estimate that this restaurant is more expensive than or equal to all of the old well known restaurants in the New Orleans French Quarter. However, when you dine at those places the service is what sets it apart (multiple wait staff, all food served at exactly the same time, etc.). The service we received was likely worse than what you'd receive at a local chain restaurant or a grill. The waiters just never seems to be able to get on the same page or nail any portion of meal. However, it was not for lack of staff, as no less than a dozen different people waited on our table during the meal, and everywhere you looked there was additional staff standing around. Our cocktail orders were consistently incorrect. We were brought the wrong drinks from the bar as well as brought the same round twice. The soups and salads were not served at the same time. Two people that ordered the turtle soup received them more than 5 minutes apart. All entrees were correct, although I'd question whether the temperature of some of the steaks was as ordered. Two of the side items did not arrive until after several in our party had completed their entree and after we had to ask whether they were ever coming. When served our waiter informed us that he had correctly entered the items but that it was a computer malfunction and some issue in the kitchen. We weren't charged for these items, but that was the least that could be done. The last straw for me occurred during dessert. When I made the reservation I informed the restaurant that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived I informed the hostess we were celebrating a birthday and to please have the kitchen send a dessert after dinner. She said of course. I wasn't expecting anything out of the ordinary, but I wanted it to arrive more spontaneously rather than as an afterthought. By the time dessert came around I had to remind our waitress again of the birthday. She said she remembered but just had not brought it yet. We also ordered the praline sticky cake (which did taste great). When the desserts arrived it was the sticky cake and then a pice of chocolate dauberge cake. The chocolate cake was placed on a plate by itself. No candle, no "happy birthday" written in chocolate, nothing. Again, I'm not sure what I was expecting, but go to Antoine's, Arnaud's, Broussard's, or Commander'a, tell them it's a birthday and see what comes out... It was as if they completely forgot or did not care. Someone in our party also ordered a coffee with dessert that never arrive. No explanation was ever provided and we didn't bother to ask. Either way by then we were done. The food and atmosphere are both quality, but the service was so bad it cannot justify the price. This place has a long way to go in terms of service in order to earn the status it seems to seek. I did learn that this restaurant opened in August 2020, in the middle of the covid-19 pandemic. Perhaps they are just now starting to get more crowded and have a full house? Although, while there were many tables on the night we were there, I would hardly say it was packed or full as there were always some empty tables in each room. read more

Went for a special occasion and all I can say is will never go back. Rubbery and raw Chilean sea bass, dry aged prime what? How disappointing. The steaks were just awful. The steak knives could not cut butter and the staff agreed that this was a problem. They found one new knife but the other person in our party was stuck with an elaborate looking worthless utensil. This newly opened fine dining restaurant is unlike anything else that's on the Northshore! It's clear that everything has been carefully planned and thought of, from the upscale decor to the chic bar to the very delicious food. It's a great spot to celebrate a special event like an anniversary or birthday or to just come in for drinks before a night out (the signature cocktail menu was a special touch)! The dry aged beef and panned veal were top notch along with the herb crusted chicken and the grouper (add BBQ shrimp on top and you won't regret it)! Also, make sure to let your server know in advance that you'd like to order the strawberry soufflé because it takes 30 min to prepare but you definitely don't want to miss it! In spite of the beautiful decor and good service, the food is average. The bar serves wonderful cocktails, but the kitchen falls short in presentation and flavor. Hopefully they can work this out, because once the selfie/Instagram crowd finds the next great thing, this restaurant likely will not survive. Oh my gosh. I don't think any restaurant can match having amazing food, amazing service, and amazing views like Tchefuncte's. There are a lot of great quality nice restaurants on the northshore, but nothing tops Tchefuncte's. I've eaten here about 4 times within the last year and a half and they have not disappointed once. I ate here with a few of my friends and one of our old teachers, and our waiter turned out to be one of her old students too and we all just had the best conversation, it was absolutely an amazing experience. Their food is absolutely incredible too! I stand by the scallops, they are probably the best meal I have ever had, no joke. I've eaten some pretty great foods from some nice restaurants but nothing compares to the scallops or the steak with cream spinach at Tchefuncte's. You definitely get a bang for your buck. It's so filling but so good to the point where I get sad when i get full because I just want to keep enjoying the food. They're on such a great location to by the water! Everyone working there is just so lovely and friendly! If you're ever looking for a nice restaurant for a special occasion or just want to splurge on some good food, Tchefuncte's is THE place to go! read more

Five friends dined there Tuesday September 8. 2020 The restaurant was FULL. And NOT practicing ANY SOCIAL distancing Whatsoever. how can this be? This NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY! We almost didn't stay but we were hungry. We sat down at our table at 6:15 and did not get our food until 8:15 ! Our waiter was great, Donnie, however, we had 4 different waitstaff runners that attempted to serve us someone else's food. When we finally did get OUR food three out of five entrees were warm, not hot. One of us got the prime rib, it was ordered medium and came out rare and room temp, not hot. Food issues that need attention: faster serve time, properly served as ordered & temperature. Menu selection could be much better for this upscale establishment. For instance, there are no crabmeat entrees, no eggplant , needs more variety. This is Louisiana, we are known for jumbo lump crabmeat dishes. The Georgia chef needs to learn this! Atmosphere was beautiful, but again SOCIAL DISTANCING during Covid needs to be addressed. It's sad that other restaurants are playing by the rules and Tchefuncte is NOT! We won't be back until our elected public officials get off their duff and do CODE ENFORCEMENT! Maybe someone is getting PAID NOT TO DO THEIR ENFORCING. We made a last minute reservation for our anniversary, so I was happy we were able to sneak in a 6:30 Saturday evening time slot. I went in having heard in general that the food was decent (though perhaps not quite measuring up to the price) but the service was abysmal. I have to say that overall, we had a great experience. We ordered the sweet potato ravioli to start which was delicious. I had the wedge salad which was different than I've had anywhere else, and unexpectedly wonderful. I ordered a ribeye (did not go the dry aged route) and it was cooked almost to specifications, although a little uneven and overcooked in places- it was seasoned very well and I enjoyed it. As a side we had the Tchefuncte potatoes and we loved those- but they initially forgot the potatoes when we were served our steaks. When we reminded them, they were very prompt in getting the side to us promptly and apologized for the error. The caramel cup was wonderful, and while we almost did not get dessert due to being so full, my husband insisted, and we polished off the whole thing. Being pregnant, the bartender whipped me up a couple fantastic mocktails so that I didn't feel like I was missing out on much. Our waiter was friendly and overall quite attentive. The views are spectacular and beat any other up scale restaurant on the Northshore. When it comes to atmosphere, I would give this place an A+. I'm excited to have this restaurant as an option for fine dining and am rooting for its success- just a few minor things to work on! We will definitely be back! read more
