We have had good experiences dining at Morton's on the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville for many years and tonight was no exception. Friendly service and a relaxed small town ambiance are standard here and tonight we sat near the bar and Jennifer took excellent care of us. Lots of Louisiana favorites on the menus and tonight my wife and I had one of our favs, the fried catfish, which was very tasty. Accompanying salads were also good, although croutons were somewhat stale. I had a refreshing draft brew and my wife had a Bloody Mary, which was a little watery. She mentioned this to staff and her second was primo. Morton's remains one of our local favored spots. read more

My family stopped by and had lunch looking to have crawfish. The table ordered 15lbs of crawfish, side boiled potatoes, sausage, and mushrooms, a pound of shrimp, and a catfish poboy. Our server was personable and checked on us often. We were seated immediately! The crawfish did take a while to come to the table, 20-30 minutes, but they were delicious. They were well-seasoned with some spice (which I like). The shrimp and crawfish were a good size and the crawfish had good sized claws as well. We were looking for some seafood close and saw Morton's. We looked over their large menu and ordered the seafood (shrimp & crab) salad, the combination seafood boat, some Caesar salads, and the fried shrimp platter. Now the combination seafood boat says that it's all inside a bread loaf and I assumed a small baguette. NOPE! It's a literal full bread loaf and was delicious. My brother and I decided to try Morton's on the lake for dinner. I ordered the blackened red fish which had a price tag of $35 dollars. The fish was slightly overcooked and heavily seasoned which made it crispy. Way too much salt. My brother ordered a hamburger with onion rings. The hamburger was mediocre at best. The onion rings were soggy and tasted like pure garbage. With a price tag of over $21 dollars, the burger should have at least been flavorful. Not the case here. But the real kicker was when they brought me the receipt. On the receipt, they added $2.09 administrative fee. I called a manager over and asked what the fee was all about. I was informed that the fee was utilized by the restaurant to offset rising food cost. The manager further stated that the restaurant didn't want to raise prices on the menu, but would rather add a fee after the fact. I advised the manager that the restaurant is only negatively affecting the wait staffs tips. The only bright side to my experience was the actual server, which was very attentive. The manager was also polite and professional. This is the only reason for the two star rating versus a one star. Save your money and stay away from this dump. McDonald's has better food!! My Granny and I left Pearl River and headed down the road like we were chasing a crawfish boil, because we kept hearing folks say Morton's was the real deal. Turns out they weren't lying. This isn't just a place to eat. It's a place where food and family history come together, right there on the water, with more soul than a French Quarter brass band on a Saturday night. Morton's isn't some new-money hotspot trying to invent itself on Instagram. This place has roots. Uncle Morton planted them in 1985, and since 1991 his niece Dawn has been running the kitchen like a jazz conductor, making sure every plate hits the table with harmony, heat, and heritage. Yesterday, my friend Elaine and I were traveling to Ocean Springs for her birthday celebration and we stopped in Madisonville for a delicious meal at Morton's Café. We had two amazing dishes recommended by Christian our delightful server. We enjoyed a savoring shrimp pasta dish and their blackened speckled trout covered in mushrooms, crawfish and delicious spices with roasted potatoes and parmesan coated broccoli. This was my first visit to Morton's and it will definitely be my last. I ordered snow crab. They were the smallest legs I have ever seen. They weren't seasoned at all. They didn't come with potatoes or anything.. And they didn't quite cook them enough to have the meat come out of the leg easily. That's three strikes and you're out never again. read more

Cool place. Clean and staff super friendly. We had beers and I had the Morten's rum punch which was really good. We had fried calamari and catfish nuggets. Yum! For entrees we had roast beef and shrimp po boy. The roast beef was tender roasted and shredded and they used popcorn shrimp. They do half n half there. While they don't ever have blue crabs, their boiled seafood options have always been amazing. I was able to get a couple pounds of crawfish the last time we were there - it was the end of crawfish season - almost as good as when my husband or someone in my family boils them. My husband didn't believe me that their strange non-blue crabs would be strange textured, and tried them anyway. I was right; he will not be getting them again. I love blue crabs, and I wish they had them. The only other type of crab that came close on flavor and texture were the perky toe crabs we had in Bar Harbor. It wasn't the cook's fault, but the kind they have are just not quality crabs. Please be aware when you order crawfish boil sides, you are ordering single items such as one potato or one corn on the cob. I'll play this strange ordering game. I was told I was safe to come eat at this restaurant due to I have a shellfish allergy but I can eat fish as long as it was not cooked with shellfish,I was told I was good to eat the fried catfish it was not cooked with shellfish and grease was separate. Well when I get there things were not as I was informed i no longer can have the fried fish witch I was looking forward to have and I was told what I was doing at a seafood restaurant if I was allergic. Being a foodie who doesn't mind driving for food, I went through my bookmarks and realized I hadn't stopped here yet. So what do you do when you have a foodie family who like to eat too? We all drive down here to try it out :). No wait even though we had a medium party and quite a few patrons inside. Server was prompt and got our drink orders and food orders in fast. Oysters- hubs loved this but only tweak is he wish they had more like bacon and cheese. Only ouch was the price on the bad boys (30ish bucks for 12) Combo seafood plate- crispy and delicious. Baked potato was great. Seafood pasta- good but I only questioned the presentation of it Crawfish- perfectly boiled and seasoned. Onion rings- according to the table get them. Service was impeccable. Food was delicious. Started with fried onion ring appetizer. The batter was light and the onions were fried to perfection and tasty. At the table we had a fried shrimp point with a bowl of the gumbo yaya. The gumbo was fantastic and the poboy was very good. We had a special with catfish and sweet potato medallions. The catfish was good but the medallions were out of this world. The ambiance was relaxed and could go either way from flip flops to a bit dressy. We also had an oyster poboy and they didn't do multiple things we requested, so that was so-so, but the oysters were good. I just don't think the prices justify the quality of the food. I've never left a Yelp review before, but I had to for Morton's. We have lunch there occasionally, and it has become our favorite eatery in a parish filled with amazing restaurants. It's got an ambiance about it that makes you relax as soon as you come through the door. The music is barely noticeable ( thank you ! ),the room is a nice temperature, and the tables are not crowded together. The wait staff is super friendly and they really know the menu offerings. They make you feel like family. Now to the food - it's great, from appetizers to coffee and dessert, and you WILL bring home a doggy bag or three. Oh, and Morton's is super casual for dress ( check their waiters attire ). We have gone there filthy and sweaty after helping a friend move in July, and we've gone there all cleaned up nice. I am being very generous giving two stars. Morton's used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We live in a nearby town (about 25 minutes away) and decided to go eat for the first time in quite a while. It was about 8 p.m. on a Saturday night and we got to the restaurant and it had about 4 tables with patrons. That should've been our first sign! We sat down looked at the menu and we were shocked at the prices, but we ordered anyway. I got the "famous" seafood salad which was the absolute most pitiful famous salad I have ever seen. It had a few larger shrimp and a handful of little bitty gumbo shrimp, 1 oz of the worst looking crabmeat, it was shredded to bits and got lost immediately, and that was it for the seafood and cheap iceberg lettuce with a couple of tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers. Pretty pathetic. My husband ordered shrimp and fish it came with 4 fried shrimp and 3 little strips of fried fish. It was average tasting at best and pretty darn skimpy. The service was decent but the waitress spilled my husband's plate on her serving tray and picked the food up put it back in the plate and gave it to him. If you like an old-school yacht-club feel, this place is for you. The wood panels, unique decor, and incredible food make Morton's a MUST in Madisonville. I haven't been here in 10 or so years (moved away for college, grad school, and now, my career). A high school friend suggested Morton's for dinner, and I'm so glad she did. Our waitress was excellent, our food was incredible, and the drinks were divine. My husband wants to come back here Sunday evening while we're still in town, and he cannot wait. Back in the day, my mom and I would split the boats. On Thursday evenings, they have boiled shrimp 1/2 off. The portions are large for one pound - about 18-20 shrimp. I highly suggest getting a soup or salad with the shrimp since the shrimp itself won't be that filling. The views of the Tchefuncte, especially at sunset, cant be beat. If you want to ensure you have a table for dinner, arrive by 5 - otherwise, there will probably be a wait. read more

In all the times we've been to Morton's, I've never tried the salad. Who knew this was going to be so good? Even though my dressing choice was a little sweet for my taste (spinach vinaigrette), I ate every crumb off the plate. I can't wait to go back and try it with the blue cheese...it's gonna be fantastic! The house made hogshead cheese? The wife ate it...how's that for a recommendation? Petunia NEVER eats the stuff. She also had the crab claw app, but I couldn't past her fingers to get a pic. I guess you gotta go order one yourself. Been going here since he opened. Stopped going around early 2000's. Went tonight, done going again. Ordered boiled shrimp, 13 crabs, a dozen oysters and other random stuff. Asked for raw oysters first before the crabs. Came opposite. The boiled shrimp were un- peelable. I tried to send them back, she says wait until they cool a little. Never heard of this in my life. Been peeling shrimp for over 50 yrs. But I waited, then tried again. Shrimp falling apart bc they could not be peeled. Sent em back. Manager tried to say that happens. The oysters my son got had some pearls in them. He asked her to pack up those shells bc I make stuff out of them! Never got those shells. She put em down in the kitchen and they threw them out. Then after we asked where they were she brings two bags of empty shells that were random. Plops them on the chair and says "there ya go". Manager never comped a thing except for taking my shrimp off that I could not eat. Horrible service! read more

We went to this restaurant one night while driving around the north shore.The restaurant was located at a fantastic location with the view of the river. It was a lovely night and we sat outside. The restaurant is spacious with adequate seating I ordered Oyster and Artichoke soup , grilled salmon with the stuffed mushrooms, potatoes for the entree. The entree came with a house salad. First about the soup, it was not very good. It was hard to tell it was oyster soup and the artichoke they used was very sour(from the can), the soup was curdling and it was really sour. However the waitress saw the discomfort and she switched me to a different one which was decent. Thanks to her. Second, the entree was satisfactory. The salmon wasn't flavored or seared but it was definitely not bad, just a little bland to my liking. The stuffed mushrooms and potatoes were also good. Maybe the place has decent fried seafood and other items, just what I tried wasn't as good as I expected. The wait staff and people at the restaurant were very friendly and hospitable, so if I am around there I'd visit the place and try something different for sure. 5/5 for the ambience, 5/5 for the staff, 5/10 for food. read more
