I was at this Magic the Gathering event that was being run by this establishment. There was a particular employee behind the counter who was being extremely rude to customers. Not only was this individual discouraging customers from joining the event but also was very negative about the product and this was while he was on the clock. His hygiene was also deplorable. I must admit I was skeptical about attending this event but after that experience I don't see how anyone would want to attend future events here. I will not be recommending this store to friends and I will most certainly not be returning ever again. I had only heard stories about these types of people online but seeing it in person really takes me out of it and never want to get into Magic the Gathering. I'll be trying other places that hopefully have a better staff. read more

This place is a scam for kids. I'd give 0 stars if it wasn't for the nice table space they have for customers to play TCG's. Overall, the prices for most collectibles in the store is priced over market. If you point out recent eBay sales showing that item is 150% of market, they usually get silent and just say it is what it is. For Pokemon, it's even worse. a card where the market is 1.01, they'll round up to 2 and say that's how it is rather than just letting go of the .01 and calling it a day. For packs (example: Pitch Black) they'll sell them for 8 bucks and tell you its limit 2, meanwhile another business on Murphy Canyon will sell you 6 of them at 6/each. So when I see kids trying to buy from here, I whisper for them to go to the other place instead. Lastly their buy rates are a pure scam an offensive compared to what competitors offer. They'll offer a 10 year old kid 40% for that 200 dollar card he's been holding onto his whole life when other shops offer 70-80%. And then they'll gloat to customers that their bulk is their biggest money maker in the store. Well that's because they're only offering 4 per 1,000 while other places will give you 20-50 per 1,000 cards depending on if it's a Regular or a Reverse Holofoil. So they're getting a 63 x markup (or more) on the cards and laughing about it after you leave. To top it off they're cold and short with kids. I've seen it happen so many times in there, where a kid comes in and doesn't know any better and will just pay or take what they ask. In fact my last visit they were telling a kid that a card cost 3 when market price was 1.21. He was about to pay it, so I just took that same card out of my own binder and gave it to him for free. This store exists out of greed and doesn't show any love of the game for kids who are just trying to have fun. Most of the staff is almost rude to you, except for the woman that's always at the front counter and greets you when you come in. Brad is nice too, but always seems overwhelmed and busy. The rest of the staff needs a lesson in customer relations. All in all, I have started recommending other places to my son's friends in Allied Gardens. read more

This place is really spacious and carries a great variety of items, including retro action figures, comic books, and all kinds of trading cards. They also have a dedicated area for people to play card games. The team running the store is friendly and helpful, and you can tell they care about the shop. I usually come in to browse their Pokémon singles, and I really like how organized their bulk cards are. I used to get good trade deals out of the previous manager Brad, but business has gotten terrible after he left a few months ago. Their newer employees were very rude and couldn't be bothered to serve the customers after several attempts to get their attention. Absolute waste of time. I brought in several Hot Toys figures and a brand-new sealed LEGO set to get a quote. The employee took my items for about 20 minutes to "research prices," only to come back and offer me around 40% of actual market value. Lowballing is one thing -- but it got worse. She then tells me she won't buy my LEGO set because it "doesn't look real." Mind you -- it was factory sealed and purchased from an official retailer. When I pulled up my receipt and proof of purchase, she didn't even bother to reconsider. Just doubled down with "I'm still not buying it." So apparently legitimate sealed LEGO with proof of purchase is "suspicious," but wasting a customer's time with lowball offers is fine. If you're a collector, don't bother bringing items here expecting fair quotes or professional knowledge. You'll just lose time and patience. read more

TC'S Rockets - Cards i picked up today - Toy Stores Near Me - San Diego, California

On Wednesdays, this is my happy place for comic books and action figures. I don't play collectible card games but they have a giant area for that and they sell packs and singles. They have terminals where you can order things and someone puts the order together from (I think) inventory in the back and brings it to you. Jayden, one of the employees, runs the Dungeons and Dragons campaigns there and has a beginner's night where he teaches people how to play. The comic book store owns Rocket's Pizza & Subs which is right next door to the comic book store. They also run the annual Rocket Con which has been held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. And they sell at The Ninja Exchange in North County so they're constantly rotating stock. They will also submit things to CGC and CAS for you (unless the item is extremely valuable because the store has to cover the cost if the item gets lost in shipping). Like I said, on Wednesdays I go in after work and am greeted by Jayden who gets my comic pull items. I go to the new comics wall (all new comics are 30% off (even ratio covers) whether you're a subscription customer or not. I look around at the toys to see what's new. Sometimes, at the front counter, Jayden will be pricing comics that someone sold to the store and he lets me look through them and if I'm interested in something, he'll prioritize pricing it so I can decide whether or not to get it. If I need an action figure in one of their opened figure displays, Jayden will come out from behind the character and help me get a better look at the figure so I can make a decision on whether to get it. They're constantly getting new product so if they don't have what you're looking for this week, they might have it next week. They have a large ebay store where you can order items and pick them up at the store. And they can always check the Ninja Exchange location to see if what you want is there and have it sent back to the Waring Road location for you. If you have kids, they have comic books and Hot Wheels and a large selection of collectible card games. You can also eat in the area with all of the tables used for gaming. I even ordered pizza slices from their shop next door while in line inside the comic store a few years ago when (I think it was) Ray Park was signing. I was in line for several hours and a few people were having pizza so I decided to join in. The big signings are in the area with the tables so the tables can be used to create switchbacks for the lines so I didn't eat pizza around the toys or comics so you're not going to find any mystery stains there. The best way to do Rockets is to stop at Rockets Pizza & Subs, order something, go over to TC's Rockets and interact with Jayden for a while, get your comics, and go back to Rockets in time to get your pizza/sandwich. There was a Magic the Gathering Universes Beyond event for TMNT. One of the employees while on the clock was actively discouraging customers to play the new set. There's one thing for an employee to voice their opinion off the clock but while people are there to purchase the product in the store it is not professional to discourage customers from participating in the event or buying the product itself. It's a shame that this establishment would allow people like this to work there and because of this I will never come back. read more

It's a cool store has a lot of figures, comics and collectibles from Marvel, dc, Warhammer, etc. The prices on the figures are fair they had old and new figures. There was a walking dead building set for 25 dollars and when I got home and opened it unfortunately it was incomplete so I could build the full set. I ended up buying 3 figures and a building set for 90 dollars. read more

Don't do business here. First ,the staff here take an hour minimum to acknowledge you and help you out ( and no, saying "welcome in" only to completely blow off customers is not acknowledging them). Then if you do manage to get someone to help you out they are extremely pushy and rude. Hey TC's, if someone is standing at the card counter actively looking at staff who are having a side conversation, while they wait for someone to help them out, thats kind of BS. Second, this place has become straight up predatory with how they do business. I totally understand that comic book/ TCG shops need to do business. But this place actively looks to rip people off. Ive traded magic cards here for store credit/product only to find out that I totally got ripped off and should have held on to the card. A decent card shop would have tried at the minimum to give me a fair deal. Not here. There is a reason this place isn't a WOTC premium store despite how well known it is. I went to sell graded Pokemon cards worth a total of $180. (Checked TCG, PSA, and Ebay for the most recently sold prices.) The gentleman and I started talking and before even looking up prices he tells me he'll pay me $80! ( I was going to ask between $120 - $130 so they could easily make $50 -$60 off of them.) Just going to be honest here while still leaving a 5 star review. Bought a Japanese Holo Articuno here for $16 bucks and there is just like, no way that it's real. No biggie it was $16 bucks and still looks cool. I'm a casual in this hobby to put it best so it's on me for not double checking before buying, idk figured I could just trust it? The guy that sold it to me wasn't necessarily stellar when it comes to customer service, I take it he was just having a bad day though. However, going to leave 5 stars though cause this dude named JADEN was awesome! I talked to him after I bought the card and he was just cool man, just a nice guy and super welcoming and passionate. Not Warhammer Friendly. They will happily sell you models, but they will not provide any place to play with those models. This location hosts MTG and other TCG tournaments, and reserves ALL available table space for those tournaments only. They do not provide community space to gamers outside the TCG scene or make any effort to serve the Warhammer community at all. We have made multiple attempts to get on their scheduling list, but they have refused to even consider us as an option. Warhammer players avoid this location. read more

This shop appears to be focused on comics, but the truth is, it's a game store and the comics are an afterthought. With thousands and thousands of books one could only imagine their favorite hero would have plenty of selection. WRONG!! Rows and rows of books packed so tightly that one cannot simply thumb through the titles. Every book was creased, bent and mangled. It was a sad sight to see. The books are separated by dividers that do nothing to help identify the titles. Nothing was in the appropriate space. NOTHING. You may think asking for help could remedy this challenging shop, however, I approached three different employees and walked away feeling less valuable than when I approached them. I was dismissed by the first person that had to wake up to join our conversation. The second person offered no help other than pointing me to someone that might be able to help. Well that person was honest as they said, "I truly know nothing about these comics, I just work here." Seriously!? While I had high hopes for this shop, I have to be honest, I'm not sure there's anything else that could have happened during my 45 minute visit that would have many or any worse except the fact that I found a Black Panther Zombie variant, appropriately behind the L divider and was told, "We will have to look up eBay sold listings to give you the price." Why in the world is a shop referencing eBay? If I wanted to shop eBay, with their well organized selection, clearly labeled books, and buy it now prices, I would have shopped from home. I've been coming to this place for years, even over at their previous location which was significantly smaller. Now that they've upgraded into a MASSIVE shop, they're really able to shine with a wide selection of collectibles, and an entire game room for those who are interested. This is one of my go to places in all of Southern California for Transformers. Their service is never lacking from my experience, and their shop always feels like a friendly community gathering. The prices are fair, often unrealistic for third party Transformers though. They also display high dollar pieces in direct sunlight which will eventually cause sun bleaching, I find that unusual. These last 2 points are the only reasons I'm not giving a 5/5, so don't hesitate to stop by! Even if it's a long drive it'll totally be worth it for you. read more

TC Rockets is a complete blast!! As a very experienced toy collector (40+ years), I've seen many many toy shops from SD to LA to NYC. TC Rockets is different in that it's a collectible toy shop, comic book shop, and gaming shop all rolled into one! It's really like something you'd see in Vegas, only in mellow Allied Gardens. What's cool about this toy shop is that they sell both GRADED and UN-GRADED toys. TC's uses CAS as their primary toy grader, I'd honestly rather see AFA, but they do sell some AFA graded toys as well. For those that like vintage "loose" toys, TC's got ya covered here, too. TC's also have an excellent selection of modern toys from McFarlane, DC, NECA, Hasbro, and countless others. The store is an absolute candyland for toy collectors young and old. TC's has some decent graded comic books for sale as well. TIP: After you're done here, walk south in the same strip mall, and there is one of the last remaining Foster's Freeze soft serve ice cream restaurants in California! The strip mall is a 1960s and '70s time capsule. You'll be transported back to the '70s at this Foster's. It's just awesome. This is really a very nostalgic area of San Diego, and this toy store is just perfect for the location it's in. Highly highly recommended! read more

Fantastic store! Great selection of magic cards, comics and toys! I was in the other day for their Black Friday deal, a number of boxes discounted really low but nothing too exciting just newer stuff and 10% off singles. Which honestly is not super exciting but still fun to have an in person Mtg card sale, very rare these days. A very helpful employee asked if I needed help a few times and when I finally did they were just as polite as if it was the first time they asked! (Customers can be annoying standing at the counter just staring at stuff with no idea if they need help so repeated asking to help is great customer service delivered to less than great customers. I know who I am.) The clerk allowed me to look at a number of old cards and even inspect a bunch myself and then turned me towards the vintage display boxes in the case that had a number of cards from '93/'94 it was honestly a fantastic nostalgic time physically looking through cards with prices on many of them and not having to look up each individually. They weren't all priced out but many where and most of them were pretty spot on too. I ended up spending a bit over $400 when I expected to at most only but a box of the discounted newer stuff. Great customer service! Solid upsell which is great for both the store and me cause he showed me more stuff I wanted and didn't know about, and very pleasant interaction as a whole.
