Holy comic book shops Batman! This is, by a wide margin, THE best shop I have been to since the late 80's/ early 90's. It's clean and spacious and the employees have time to interact with everybody and answer questions. It's a Star Wars toy lovers paradise. They also have a LOT of other collectible toys from several franchises, big or small, new and old. They have a substantial amount of new and back issue comics. They don't have every single thing I was looking for (how can one place?), but they have their inventory so well cataloged, they were able to look it up in their computer instead of pointing me blindly in a direction or pretending to shuffle through boxes only to come up short. read more

Update: I came back about a few days ago and let me tell you- the staff's customer service has gotten extremely better (or at least their new staff is a lot better to talk to about anything and are more personable). However, for the past week, I have been selling items for cash and one time, I wasn't so happy with what they had to offer. Typically for them, how they evaluate the collectibles as by condition, eBay Sold Items listings, and then multiply that number by 30%. Each time I did so I left happy with how much I walked away with- that was until one day I came with a few collectibles from Comic-Con and got my own personal evaluation from the store owner. Instead of their normal procedure, he changed it to 50% for everything because I assume what I had was over their budget and I can understand if they had asked to negotiate but instead I was met with "I am firm with the offer" or at least offer a slightly better deal with store credit. Dont come here to sell high end collectibles, not worth it. read more

I've never made a review before, but I feel like after the few visits I've had at TC's Rockets it's warranted. First... Shout out to Rob! I just started playing Magic the Gathering, and this homie took the time to answer ANY questions that I had about the game. He went into the culture of the store, the culture of the game, and tips on the best ways to get started. He not only sold the game, but he sold the store and then some. Customer service was top notch. In NO way will this review involve this team member. I cannot say the same for other team members at TC's rockets though. From a handful of calls, to quite a few in person experiences I can say with confidence, that there are some workers at this store that have been very curt, and borderline rude... I have come with friends, family, and my significant other. And each time there is some kind of uncomfortable experience I am having with one of the workers. In addition, there is some kind of way I'm having to tell the person that I'm bringing that my experiences haven't been like this before. I am not trying to get anyone in trouble, but I think it should be made clear that there is an issue when it comes to some of the stores team members way of talking to their paying/excited customers. I absolutely love the layout of the store, and I love the atmosphere that the customers always seem to bring. Once again. I really appreciate this store for many reasons. I just don't want situations where I feel nervous bringing friends/ family depending on who is working at that time. I came here for a card I placed online on their website at my house to pick up the next day. I walk into the front front counter to ask if I could pick it up. A young man asked if I rung the bell on the counter , I said I did not because I placed it online for pickup. He then told me I had to ring the button by the computers when I did not even use them. Drove all the way from LA in traffic with my 10 year old who was excited to visit the store he's been seeing on Youtube and made it there at 8:55. Their doors were open, bunch of people inside and when we went up to the counter, instead of saying hello, their first words were we're closed! We proceeded to tell him we drove from far away but he didn't really care he just wanted to us out. Terrrrible customer service! To the business owner - please teach your employees business sense! You don't turn away a customer that is already in your store! Definatly will not be back there! read more

My kids and I are new to reading and collecting comic books. We recently discovered TC'S Rockets and loved the shop. They have comics for all budgets, starting from the ¢25, $1, $2 all the way up to The expensive graded collector's items. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. They also have a great selection of Funko figurines, lots of vintage toys, different types of cards (not sure what kind of game those are for). They have a nice, big game room area with a snack bar. TC'S has ample parking, they accept credit cards and they have bathrooms. read more

Update: I still really like this store.. but.. are they a retail store? Or professional scalpers? Who is in charge of the toy department? Action figures are outrageously overpriced and can't help but feel they would sell more if they were not charging 2 - 3 times above MSRP. And scalping.. they have a TMNT in disguise set for $325!! It's not only rude, it's unethical. Now I have to mention I also unknowingly purchased Neca and Revoltech knock offs for full price. And yeah, no returns allowed. Also purchased a Nolzurs miniature that was opened, removed the display stand, and super glued the package back together, which I didn't notice until after opening. Glue obviously all over the package. This is a great store for some things, but be cautious when buying! Staff is super awesome and friendly, store is huge and full of everything you want. Comic book stores always make me smile. My friend's husband manages/managed a comic book store when I used to live in Orange County and I would always visit him, my friend, and other fellow comic book enthusiasts. I have read some graphic novels on occasion and still have them in my book arsenal. I came in here with my boyfriend yesterday and wow, we were blown away by the selection of comic books and collectibles. The guy behind the desk greeted us with a smile and I just felt happy being there. I believe when we got there there was a Magic the Gathering tournament going on; I just looked on their calendar and they hold a lot of events gaming enthusiasts. How cool is that? I would definitely stop by here again if I get the chance. Currently I'm looking for some Cuphead and Pikachu toys. :D read more

This place has seriously gone down hill, at least from a funko, Lego, and other toy stand point. They give literally 2 dollars or 30 percent based off "ebay" for funkos. I've seen them give 2 dollars for a funko then turn around and sell it for $40... Like really? read more

So I'll be rating this from a comic book collector point of view. First they seem to have lots of toys and cards and stuff like that. The prices are standard and the hot wheels are cheap. My son loves those so I bring him by when I want to buy comics. I'll say that they do seem to be more focused on card games. Now the reason I give a 2 star is because it doesn't seem like anyone has any clue what's going on with the comics. I asked every staff member for help finding some fairly common and recent stuff they would have back issues of as all the other comic stores have them. I don't play cards but my son who is almost 3 loves looking at all the toys. The staff wasn't rude, but I can see what others mean by them not really asking you if you need help with anything. There was only one guy who went out of his way to give me decent customer service. That's why it's 2 stars rather than 1. If TC's Rockets can get better customer service and more comic book knowledge this place would be 5 stars for me. read more

Fantastic store with a large selection of comics of all variety, figurines, puzzles, legos! Came in looking for an anime white elephant gift. Found a Nendoroid Rengoku for $70. Problem was my budget was $60 for the white elephant and I really wanted to get as close to it as possible. I asked the gentlemen with the hoodie at the register if prices were negotiable. He excitedly answered yes. I offered $65 and then guess what?! The gentlemen offered $60!!!!! He could have easily taken my money but he wanted to give me the best experience possible. If that is not great customer service I don't know what is. Amazing service. I'll be back. Side note - it would appear they had some sort of large gathering for a card game tournament for those who are interested. My guess would be magic the gathering but I wouldn't know any better. I'll find out next time when I stop by to enjoy the store. Side side note - I looked up pricing for the Nendoroid and the sale was in line with what they are selling for. I bring that up because to me it just shows they were thinking customer first and giving me the best price possible. Kudos. read more

I've come here once in a while with a friend now usually on Tuesdays when I feel comfortable with my anxiety. Finally got the good ol gender prejudice from the crew in store AND online in their group seriously not how I wanted things to go. Also, trying to get staff attention for buying cards was extremely difficult, no one asked me if I needed help or anything as I was actively looking for someone in the front counter, kind of disappointing at most. They offer great selections just wish they were more open to newbie female players which is heartbreaking. read more

TC's has amazing staff, a great selection of cards and pretty fun in store tournaments. This is where the best players in SD play magic, so come prepared for epic games, and friendly people. There are always spike players with poor attitudes but the rest of the community and environment makes up for those scrubs. Do yourself a favor and come check out TC's rockets! read more

Blew me away today, I am happy I was able to experience the high quality service and tournament organization. Finally made it down here to play, and I would highly recommend this LGS. I'm so glad I was able to visit in person. The IQ I played in today was run flawlessly, the judges/staff were some of the best I've ever experienced, and everyone was very friendly. If you are in SD, I highly recommend you check out the store. They definitely changed my original first impression, and they went above and beyond for everyone in the event. I found this place by pure luck! Unassuming from the outside but when the enter the doors, you realize how big this place really is....and let me tell you, it is amazing inside! If you are a fan of comic book shops and collectible toys, this is the place to be! They have a wide selection of Marvel, DC, and Star wars figures including variants and hard to find...and although they may be a bit higher in price on some items, you are not going to find select figures at your local Target store. I would also add that about a quarter of their store is dedicated to table gaming...D&D, warhammer, magic, pokemon, etc. So glad I found this place! read more

My husband and I recently moved to the area and we decided to visit TCs Rockets. We are big comic book fans/collectors and this place has SO many comics. They have a nice selection of new issues (indies and mainstream) and TONS of back issues. They have .25 cent, .50 cent, $1, $2, and $3 bins. They have a TON of collectibles. They also run card games (like magic the gathering) and I think it is really nice they give young children and young adults a safe place to hang out! The staff are just so helpful and nice! We go there almost every Wednesday for new comic book day and we look forward to it every week! read more

Everyone usually great when you come in. Sometimes an employee having a bad day and has some attitude but who can blame someone these days? Especially with so many just looking and trying to barter cuz they saw it cheaper elsewhere. Never once have I bartered or asked for a discount, but if I'm spending over $100 on raw cards multiple visits maybe hook it up with a top loader or something more secure than just a little plastic? Shoutout to the consistent service delivery team members. I felt like a kid all over again as I walked through this fun shop. There are some cool toys in here! Seriously, if you wanna buy my affections, pm me and I'll give you a list :-). We barely scratched the surface as far as looking through the comics goes, but we'll be back. I loved that they didn't just have $1 bins, but also $.50 ones as well, very cool. My son found some cool Batman and Robin ones, including one with Alfred on the cover, gotta love that. This store has a lot of comics for a smallish shop. The back of the store has a section with tables for card play and a fun arcade game. The first time we came, I brought my son in with his little buddy and the owner set them up with credits so they could play. Naturally, they enjoyed this immensely. I noticed there was also a bathroom for public use. Very impressive. I mean I was sitting there for a while while the boys were playing. They had some cool posters up in the store as well. When I checked out the owner was very friendly. They currently have a yelp check-in offer for 10% off any one item. A nice deal for toys. I started a customer account for my son. The owner wrote down which new issues he reads and ordered the ones he didn't currently have on order, very cool of him. He also told me he gives a 10% discount, even nicer! I wish I had known this store was here sooner, I drive by all the time. We will be back though, now that we do know. read more

TLDR: GREAT REVIEW CHANGED BECAUSE OF ACCUSING MY WIFE OF STEALING IN FRONT OF THE STORE. MANAGEMENT AND OWNER MADE IT WORSE AND CAUSED US ALL DISTRESS! Update: I had previously written a glowing review that you can see below. Recently, my wife had an experience that took it all away. My wife was confronted in front of the store and accused of theft of cards and that there was a police report out for her. Admittedly, this horrible experience originated from something absurd, but how it was handled is why it is all negative. We have recently had to start selling valuable collectibles that also had sentimental value, and this happened on April 5th, 2023. They were my cards, and I had given her permission to do so. The cards were valuable, and she had received over $1000 dollars for them. Witnessed by a friend and her mother, the owner came out and yelled my wife's name via the receipt she signed. The owner aggressively confronted my wife, telling her that her husband (with a different name than me) had called and said she stole my cards. They prevented my wife's rude and friend from leaving. All of this coming from the description of the man on the phone saying a Mexican woman with a young child and high-end pokemon cards. My wife is Filipino Chinese. My son is a tall 11 year old One member of management seemed sincere and tried to make it right. Following day, I went in to receive the making-it-right thing with my son so he could pick out something. Different member of management said sorry, followed by dismissing the aggressive nature in confronting my wife with which the owner had done. Followed by inconsistent information between him and the previous managers' story. Someone is lying, and someone is being insincere. Previous review. 9 times out of 10, this place is great. Sometimes, some employees aren't wonderful, especially to women, but those ones are few and far in between. For every not perfect experience, I've got at least a dozen stories where they do everything they can to get everything right for you, and they are friendly, and they welcome all walks of life. They have every kind of toy, comic, and hobby. I had a friend who's just starting to get into a game, and they set her up at prices that only existed when I started...20 years ago. read more

Came to TC's Rockets and Subs to grab some lunch! Their Sandwiches are amazing!! I got their Italian sub and my bf got their cali pastrami sandwich and neither sandwiches disappointed. The pastrami was my favorite though!! The staff is super friendly and they are operating very well with following proper procedures due to COVID. They are limiting capacity, the staff is wearing gloves and hair nets, they have hand sanitizer, and they are wearing masks as well as enforcing customers to wear masks as well. Next door is their comic book shop, again never disappointed when we come here either. So many great comics and toys and the staff is always very friendly and helpful and they will special order funko pops for you if they can if it's not available at the store. Again very good at following covid protocols and sanitizing between customers, wearing masks, enforcing customers to wear masks, limiting capacity, providing hand sanitizer. TC Rockets is a Really Nice store. The selection of comic books, graphic novels, toys, and cards here is awesome. But to me The Single Best thing about TC Rockets is their Customer Service. Huge Funko Pop collector here and these guys have a pretty decent sized amount of Pops for sale. Both commons, uncommons, a few rares but no grails for sure. Besides Display Geek, TC Rockets has one of the better selections of Funkos in San Diego. They have a huge back room area with tables for the cats playing Magic the Gathering and D&D in the back. Comics. Toy collectibles and games. From what I hear they will soon be making a deli type place inside to order food as well. For sure stop in and see their wares haha read more
