Date of visit: July 24, 2024 As part of Comic-Con 2024, Now Or Never Comics was participating in the festivities in two ways - by having a raffle for three CGC-rated books with purchase of the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles book... and a free pizza party. AUTOMATIC FIVE-STAR RATING! Okay, besides that, Now or Never is one of the few (if not only) comic book stores in Downtown San Diego. It's actually cleaner and more organized than the ones I frequent, but the relatively small size of the building means they don't have as much in stock as I'd like. Case in point, I wanted to show my appreciation for supporting SDCC by getting a couple of graphic novels of Trese and Usagi Yojimbo, but the ones I wanted weren't in stock. But, given how I was surprised to see a comic book store a few blocks away from the Convention Center, I can see myself probably checking it out again whenever I'm in the area. read more

Was lucky enough to find this cool comic shop close my hotel while on a visit. While it may look small, they pack a lot of comic goodness in this well organized and bright 2-story shop! Books are a mix of new and old, with plenty of back issue bins to hunt thru! Key issues are displayed well and priced fair, and the employee we met was helpful, knowledgeable, and refreshingly normal but with definite geek cred. Upstairs is a decent selection of collectibles & action figures. Plus, $2 bins of overstock comics, tho they weren't bagged & boarded so really hit & miss on condition. Wish I had more time to spend digging the back issue bins but definitely worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

We're tourist from Vegas and we popped in here on a Saturday night, parking was close to the business, the store was super clean and organized, they had a great selection of comics, but the real reason I came was the action figures which I loved the selection of. Everything was reasonably priced! Great place and I got a Toybiz Thing for a great price! There was 2 employees as well and they were really cool! read more

This place is awesome. I'm from Long Beach but if I have any excuse to come down to San Diego I will drive down. The people here are so nice and helpful. They seem to be excited about comic books. They have a good upstairs and downstairs full of all comic book related stuff. My only complaint is that I wish these guys were closer I love this shop definitely worth a checkout. read more

Few comic stores I've been to are as good as Now or Never Comics. In my hunt for the nations' best comic book stores, this one is high up there. Among the many things going for it is the owner above all. I witnessed him being honest beyond expectations - a customer wanted to sell some Funko pops and he made him a fair offer, but more than that, he told him he might get more money from a competitor up the street and that if he wanted to put in the time and effort he could definitely get more online! Wow. The guy ended up selling to the store and I'm glad he did. He got a good deal and the honesty of a fine owner. PRODUCTS: Love the variety here. They focus on comic books and have a very nice selection of high value books, new and recent books, and a good back stock. Not all comic stores have all three. He also has vintage and new toys and vintage books as well. Just a great overall selection. SERVICE: Like I said, just the best. I really appreciate those people who make this hobby worthwhile and just makes me want to give them my business. Which I happily did. COST: I was super impressed with cost also. Most comic stores elevate their prices but his prices were incredibly fair. Better than eBay in most instances and without paying for shipping. I love comic books. I love video games. I love toys. If you also love....or even just like the three things listed above you absolutely must check out Now or Never Comics! I stopped by this shop for the very first time on Thursday and was amazed by almost everything I saw. When I first walked in I flew straight up the staircase to the toy room because I just couldn't wait. This room is pretty large and filled in every direction with all the Marvel, DC, Star Wars stuff and so many different retro toys form Space Jam and Mars Attacks! to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men. They had glass cases full of opened stuff and a ton of in box stuff all around too, truly a remarkable toy section. Downstairs is packed to the brim with walls of trades and compendiums with the single issue stuff being located in the middle. The store itself is organized alphabetically and they even have a discount wall where I picked up a half off copy of Something is Killing the Children for only $7.50, talk about a deal. This store also had a few different cases with video games in them that I got super excited to come across! I ended up picking up a couple of GameCube games which is all a man could really ask for. Now or Never Comics is a store that I will absolutely be visiting whenever I am back in San Diego. The selection here is incredible and the store itself was super clean and well organized. The gentleman working the register was also a huge help and recommended a few other places in the area for me to check out, so shoutout to him as well! LOVED this place! I walked in and was immediately wowed by the look and overwhelming amount and variety of comic books and figures. The staff was so kind and welcoming. My party and I didnt spend more than 15 min here so it's definitely a place where you quickly look around and purchase a few things if you liked. I met a regular at this location and he seems to come back often for vintage figures which just gives me good vibes about the place. I bought a manga book for about $16. There's a limited amount of manga but if you're interested in a series, you can ask the owner to order it for you! read more

I love this store - on top of a nice selection of back issues that are well organized they have a great, friendly crew. They have pre organized sets at good prices and sections for key issues, variants, slabs, etc so you can go straight to what you are looking for or just browse around. I also like that they have screened their books and in the back of the bag state any missing pieces or writing, so you don't get nasty surprises at home. Back issues are priced at fair market values IMO. Don't pass up on checking them out - walking distance within Gaslamp. That also means parking can be tricky on event days and street closures on weekends, one just has to plan a bit when to come on weekends. read more

This is one of my favorite SD comic shops. It's pretty far from home (I'm closer to Southern California Comics) but I really like the ambiance of the shop, the industrial interior, the multiple floors, and the neat and tidy arrangement of merch. Some comic shops are really crowded and hard to maneuver but this one is well laid out and organized. The staff that helped me were super friendly and helpful, which is not always the case at local comic shops. I think he was the guy in the cool MCR shirt in the Yelp photos. I have visited many a Comic Shop in my days, but none that have checked all the boxes quite like Now Or Never Comics. For me what made this place stand out the most - was it's clever design. It feels like the Apple Store of Comic Book stores, just minus the pretentiousness. It is a truly inviting store - and seriously you can tell just by selection of stuff they carry. The Comics are all meticulously mainlined - even including a sticker (on the outside of the bag) on key issues, to let you know if it's a first appearance or even what to read next. The selection is pretty outstanding and very classy - they even carry Steve Ditko's Mr A. That's not to say that Comics is their only forte, upstairs is filled with nostalgia with vintage everything. From Toys, Books, Video Games and Consoles. It's always a treat to come in and see what's in stock. Even harder to walk away without purchasing something. For me personally it was seeing a store finally step up and be what a Comic Shop should be. Not a secret club house for only a small group of geekdom - but a geek hub, that has something for everyone. Plus it's one of the cleanest Comics Stores you'll ever find. read more

I was looking to sell my comic book collection and spoke with Aaron via email. While we ultimately did not move forward with a transaction, Aaron was thorough in explaining his reasoning behind the valuation (which I know was accurate) and went well above and beyond by suggesting other avenues for me to perhaps do better. This took time out of his day he did not need to spend and far exceeded what was necessary (or that I got from other shops). This has been a weird year so far. 2020 will go down for me as one of the strangest times in history. Wearing masks, social distancing and constantly washing my hands is now my new norm. During this time. My barber has temporarily closed, reopened and then closed again. Worse of all. My favorite comic book store closed down permanently. So besides the Covid nonsense. I haven't had any new comic books to read. No new or ongoing stories to entertain or distract me from the mundane. So the search was on to find another comic book store. That's where Yelp never fails me. That's where I found Now Or Never Comics. Located in downtown San Diego and is currently the only comic book store in downtown. It is a quick drive west for me on the 94. Right off of F Street and 11th Avenue. Easy to spot and parking also isn't too difficult to find. A modern, clean shop with two floors. Downstairs having the majority of all the comics. Upstairs having the majority of all the toys. Very organized and packed with geek culture goodness. I didn't get to browse as long as I wanted to but look forward to my next visit. Now Or Never Comics is now my favorite comic book store. The service is very friendly and helpful; and I now have subscription service for the comics I wish to buy in the future. Overall, I am happy to find this place. Great comic book shop. My kids and I love it. Here, you can find comic books, graphic novels and really cool collectibles as well as some accessories such as top loaders for your most precious comics and cello bags for the rest of them. The street level has a bunch of well organized books, top shelves for individually priced issues and the bottom shelf (file cabinets) have good deals ($2 books or 10 for $15). The second story has all the cool collectibles and vintage toys. The second floor was hot compared to the rest of the shop so I didn't spend much time there, though they have cool stuff and cool view to the street. This shop has reasonable prices, friendly staff (I've only met a girl with glasses, super cool and patient with my kids). They accept cash and credit cards. They have a rack of "free comic books for kids" one per kid, per visit. Street parking only. Tip: if you go on a Sunday, you're more likely to easily find a parking space (and parking is free on Sundays and holidays). We will definitely be back. read more

This has become our go-to comic shop! Aaron, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and has great recommendations for anything and everything. The shop itself is so organized and clean. From graphic novels, retro toys, Funko Pops, action figures, children's books...everything has a place and is displayed so its easy to see and find everything. Large selection of comics both raw and Graded. You can tell he takes a lot of pride in his shop and its very easy to find everything you need in every genre. There are 2 levels so its fun to explore and see whats new. I love that they'll put stickers on all comics that feature 1st appearances, cameos, or if a book is signed, etc. Parking is street only but we've been able to find something out front every time and we've only been able to go on weekends. Found this place in my hunt for the Batman/Fortnite crossover series, which my kids kept asking me about. Called several shops across San Diego, but Aaron really provided the best customer service and subscription options for issues going forward. Also, many shops in the area where charging 4x over the cover price to buy the issues in store, while Aaron was charging cover prices. I understand the supply and demand concept, so I really appreciate Aaron's desire to draw long term customers over the short term profits. Cute comic book shop! It's on the smaller side for comics but still has a well-rounded selection. This is definitely a place to go treasure hunting, there are some great prices on vintage comics. I picked up several Bronze age Spider-man and Ghost Rider comics in good condition for $4 each! The owner is very helpful and was able to help us find what we came in for as well. I'm very much partial to Cape & Cowl in Oakland, but Now or Never is one of the best new comic shops I've been to in the country. After visiting ComicKaze and being disappointed in the overall experience, I was hanging around the Gaslamp District, and from the staff at Super7 and 5&Dime was told about Now or Never and hit it up. You'll notice that this two story comic shop is brand new and well organized: current issues on the far wall, back issues in the bins AND drawers - yes, those drawers are filled with back issues - in the middle, and toys (from GI Joes, wrestling, TMNT, and Transformers) upstairs. The selection of classic back issues is really impressive. I had to stop myself as they had numerous Moon Knight, Iron Fist, and other issues I needed but had to consider bag space for the flight back. Don't forget to check out the display case with some issues that would the prize of a lot of collections. You'll also notice the three seats facing the TV. What helps make this place really stand out is the welcoming environment. When I arrived, there were 4 people were hanging out and talking, only one of which was the actual owner. Having a space like this that is not only welcoming, but has seats to relax, read, and/or talk is rare to find at comic shops and helps add to the experience. The owner is also super nice, coming from Boston and taking their comic book culture with him. If you need ANY back issues or action figures, just ask and he'll start a collection, and is willing to ship some stuff. When I come back to San Diego, I'm hitting them back up (but first sending them my need list). read more
