Everyone has a vice and mine happens to be boba. While Tea Mug is located on a traffic congested street, there's still a decent amount of parking scattered throughout the nearby area. I was able to snag a temporary parking spot pretty quickly. This boba shop is on the smaller side. They have 3-4 tables inside, bar seating near the window, and some outdoor patio seats for those looking to mingle. I ordered my strawberry lychee smoothie to go with boba. The drink was a nice icy treat, with just the right amount of sweetness. I did find their boba to be a bit tasteless. In the future I might choose a different topping. Good spot for an easy pick me up. read more

Today is Thursday, July 31, 2025, and my heart has definitely sunk! Yesterday (July 30, 2025), Tea Mug posted on their Instagram account ( https://www.instagram.com/teamugboba ) that after 4 years of being in business, they're saying farewell to all their customers, as they're permanently closing effective immediately. I shall miss them sooooo much!!! The owners were always the SWEETEST couple and soooo professional with their business! And I was always recommending their place to my friends, because where else in the ENTIRE Westside can you find drinks made with REAL jackfruit or REAL pandan or even real DURIAN?!? I wish the owners the best! I'm sure that driving every day from Orange County to the Westside must have been a nightmare for 4 years and I'm sure the rent on anywhere on Sawtelle must have been a nightmare. I don't know the exact reasons behind you all closing, but I'm sure you all had your understandable reasons. We stopped by Tea Mug Boba on a Saturday while in the area, thirsty and craving something refreshing. With high reviews, we decided to give it a try--and we're glad we did! They offer a huge selection of drinks--pretty much anything you could want. My son ordered the mango boba with both regular and popping boba. He never finishes his drinks, but he finished this one! I tried it too--it was delicious. The mango flavor was spot on, the boba was perfectly soft (not overly chewy), and the popping boba was fresh and fun to eat. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's street parking on busy Sawtelle Blvd, but it's worth it. The place has a cute, modern, and hip vibe with a steady flow of customers. The cashier was super friendly and helpful in guiding us through the menu. With the add-ons, we paid about $9--not bad at all for a quality boba drink. I don't understand the hype of this spot. I came here after seeing its high reviews on Yelp. I came with one other person and we ordered from their kiosk. I went with their popular pandan milk tea and subbed it for oatmilk, 50% sweetness, less ice, and added boba. The person I came with got their tropical fruit drink. Our drinks took a very very very long time to make. And they messed up my order by putting no ice in it. I really didn't enjoy the pandan milk tea and the boba also wasn't really good. It was disappointing. The guy working behind the counter was nice though. He was trying his best to be quick but they just seemed like they couldn't keep up with orders. It was pretty busy when we went. There is sitting areas inside but parking is a little terrible. There is limited street parking and one parking spot in the back. A bit away from the little Tokyo sawtelle area (actually a strength in my book since no issues with parking), my favorite thing about tea mug is that they include condensed milk in their drinks! As usual, you can adjust sweetness and add in's, especially like their tropical fruit smoothie options (we tried the mango pineapple, brown sugar boba's were really fresh and perfectly chewy). Location seems very popular with the locals. The front of house was clean and cozy. Ordered classic milk tea with pudding. Milk Tea had very small amount of pudding and was very sweet even though requested 25% sweet. They do not have a Sugar Free or 0% sugat option in the self order kiosk. The task of tea was okay but too sweet for my taste Also ordered the hoise special coffee. This was an interesting drink and had cocoa powder sprinkled on top. Also chose 25% sweet and it was fine. This drink needed more coffee flavor and less milk. Access to bathroom is not ADA friendly. There was a bike and step ladder on the way to the bathroom. It could also be cleaner. Luv the oat milk option bc most boba places only have cow milk. Got my drink in less than 5 mins & watched a myriad of people come in & out while charging my devices & working on my laptop. This review is totally overdue as this is likely my 9th or 10th time coming to this gem since trying their smoothies ~1y ago. Tea Mug is the only place I know of on Sawtelle that has all of the following: decent parking (metered street), fantastic drinks, wonderful staff (the owners are so sweet and remember my order every time), open late, AND power outlets near tables for doing work/studying. My first drink here was the pandan smoothie and while that was nice, I have only ordered their strawberry papaya smoothie since trying it--specifically 'strawberry papaya smoothie w/ almond milk, no condensed milk, no toppings, 25% sweetness'. It is THE Perfect Smoothie. The quality of their smoothies is what really stands out for this place. It can get a bit noisy due to the blenders, but I personally don't mind background noise while I work. I absolutely love Tea Mug and enjoy interacting with the staff as well~ read more

We were shopping not far away at Westfield Century City and developed a powerful thirst. Normally, we'd go to Wushiland at the mall, but because we had our hands full of groceries from Eataly, we had to bypass and head straight to the car. Once settled, a quick Yelp search for Boba tea yielded some interesting options, but close-by and easy access (i.e. parking) was paramount. That's how I discovered Mug Tea on Sawtelle near the intersection with Santa Monica Blvd. We abused a loading zone spot across the street, but since we were basically only waiting for the drinks, it wouldn't be long, nor was it. The menu is nicely displayed, a little heavier on milk teas, Vietnamese coffee is also an option, and then, finally, I spotted a fruit tea beverage. Strawberry Refresher indeed! It only took a few minutes to prepare, mine with 75% sweetness and hers with 50%. I liked both options, actually. Mine was subtly sweeter but not overly so. The fruit was generous, the lychee jelly toppings added to the exotic flavors, and a slice of lemon provided acidity and freshness. Extremely well done! I was in the area for work so ordered ahead on their website and stopped by this boba shop for a quick treat. I ordered the "pandan milk tea", 75% sweet, light ice with brown sugar boba (although it's called tea, I don't believe has any actual tea in it.) The pandan flavor is light (as it is generally) but definitely comes through well. However the boba were unfortunately lacking any caramel-y flavor of brown sugar, and were too soft for my liking. The sugar level overall was good. Service was quick, my drink was ready on time so I just pulled into a metered spot to pop in for pick up. Date: December 29, 2023 Two tea spots back to back? Wow. lol. I've been eyeing this spot since it opened because I am a HUGE pandan fan and they had pandan milk tea. Finally got the chance to try it out today. Walked in around 2pm and there were two other guest there. They have a self order kiosk on the side or you can order directly from the cashier. The menu is right above so it's easy to see. I thought it was only street parking so I parked a block away but turns out they have a parking lot behind. Not sure how big it is but that's always good to know seeing its location is rough to only have street parking. Ordered and then yelped check in and I need to stop doing that because there is a 15% off with check in, so REMEMBER TO CHECK IN FIRST. Took about 5 minutes and my drink was out. They run more on the sweet side so I'd lower to 25-50% sweet if you don't like sweet drinks. The drink was very refreshing and the jasmine tea taste was so strong I loved it! The shop is small and IG worthy for those of you who want to snap a pic. Very cute and organized place, and the owner is very knowledgeable about specialty drinks. We've decided to get the avocado and durian smoothie. Durian smoothie - definitely the highlight of our drinks! It's so subtle yet so fresh with the right amount of sweetness to complement the durian. However, the boba was a little hard for my liking. If it was soft and chewy, this drink would have been perfect. Avocado smoothie - definitely lacks flavor, especially the sweetness. I don't think they've added condensed milk to intensify the avocado flavor, so I think adding this would really make this a great smoothie. Found this gem while walking from the Sawtelle Japantown area towards UCLA. This place has a huge variety of milk tea and smoothie flavors made from real fruits - they even have exotic fruits like jack fruit and durian!! Most drinks are under $5, and you can use yelp check in to upgrade a size or redeem a topping for free. The owner even created an app that would dynamically update to the store's most recent yelp rating which I thought was really cute. I got the durian smoothie with 75% sugar for $4.95 and upgraded it to a big size. It had the right amount of sweetness and the strong durian scent that I like. The store even had free wifi and a cute backdrop that you can take pictures against. Finding this place definitely made my day a lot sweeter :) read more

Tea Mug Boba opened less than a week ago and they're located on Sawtelle Bl, south of Santa Monica Bl. Sawtelle Bl probably has a dozen tea boba shops all concentrated on Sawtelle and Olympic. It's nice to see hip businesses migrate at this end of Sawtelle. The shop is small, with limited metered street parking. Indoor only seating but there's room for outdoor seating if the shop staff move some of their benches from inside to the small patio. But when I was there No outdoor seating. The order taker was cordial, informative and helpful. The menu had the usual flavors, but I wanted something new to Me. I got the avocado smoothie and the Pandan tea both with aloe Vera added. Pandan is usually used in Southeast Asian countries, with its long blade like leaves and taste like grassy vanilla with a hint of coconut. And avocado needs no further description, it's creamy green smooth and versatile, for either savory or sweets. In this case, the smoothie with aloe vera pieces was quite yummy. I'm not a fan of Boba or Jelly and I was glad Aloe Vera a healthier option was offered and it was just as yummy and filling. In fact, these tea drinks always satiates my appetite, is a good food replacement and convenient togo. All the teas are made with whole milk here. I prefer non dairy and it would be nice if the shop incorporates almond, coconut or oat milks for customers who prefer non dairy. While both drinks I got were yummy, I'm most certain it would be yummier with vegan non dairy milk. Despite milk preferences, Tea Mug drinks are worth trying. read more

The pandan drink lived up to the flavor and taste I expected and the strawberry mint mojito was very good. 100% sweet is a bit high so definitely go for 75%, but I will probably get 50% next time. I also like the fact they don't put too much ice in the large. Cute and clean interior. Lots of outdoor and indoor hangout space, and reasonable prices.
