Volcano is in a little shopping center. I ordered the slushy with boba and my wife ordered the coffee drink with boba. The positive is the shop was clean and the boba was soft, not hard like some. The problem was both tasted so artificial. The coffee one to me tasted so bland milk and water downed coffee.
While I got food from a nearby joint, I wanted a sweet dessert to wash it all down. I ordered the Hazelnut Milk Tea with Boba from here that had a black tea base and was sweetened with hazelnut flavored syrup. It hit the spot and was so delicious! There are so many great restaurants in this village and I am glad I chose this to complement the dinner I previously ordered. The boba texture was good and the taste of the tea was just right. It was refreshing and certainly satisfied my sweet tooth. I would have gotten it in a larger size if I knew how good it was. I definitely recommend this place!

Been coming here well over a decade. I found out about this place when I worked in the west side and my coworkers went to UCLA for college. We would come after work for a nice little break and order boba. Fast forward to 2025, I bring my daughter here and ordered her a strawberry slushy and she loved it! Flavors are always good and boba is made just right. Service is always quick and lines move fast.
This is almost an institution on Sawtelle, they are the longest running establishment that I know spanning over 25+ years of serving boba! I've been coming here that long and there is a reason why they are still here! They serve honest to goodness boba and to me the pearl tapioca are cooked perfectly. I love the simplicity of what they serve my favorite is the Honey Black tea. Their menu has grown through the years but the consistency of their milk tea has remained as good as it was 25 years ago.
Oof today I got the brown sugar latte and it was no bueno the brown sugar had a weird aftertaste similar to the fact of tasting like a honey after taste. Also I must've accidentally said brown sugar latte and not brown sugar milk TEA because all I got was whole milk + brown sugar + bobs balls and NO TEA taste ... so so sad. I would not order again. This one comes in one size (large) and comes with boba for $6.50. The boba balls this time did its job. Soft chewy like yummy mochi however their boba does have a tendency to stick together and get stuck in the straw causing you to futilely suck or spontaneously get a five thick boba projectiles slam into the back of your throat. I would order here if you want a cheap option. I would get a milk black tea or a regular tea aka no milk. Add toppings like boba and grass jelly or just boba. Ambiance = casual, low key tea shop. Size = awesome! Very generous large

If you want a Boba drink, and you're on Sawtell Avenue, over in West LA, Volcano is your place to go. Yes, yes, they have other drinks that don't involve Boba, but from my experience, the majority of people that come here want one of their Boba drinks. They also have various varieties of Boba, and other ingredients to put in the bottom of your drink, which is another factor that makes this place very interesting. What Volcano offers is a nice selection of great tasting drinks. They have various varieties of drinks whether it be coffee-based, milk-based, or fruit-based that you can either drink straight or add your Boba to. The way this business works is that you decide what you want, walk up to the counter, tell the person handling the counter your choice and they make it for you on the spot. Though this is a great process, and the staff really try to get your drink exactly right, this is also where some of the criticisms about this business arise. Due to the fact that some of the people that walk up to the counter really don't know what they want, and need to have some instructions from the staff, this can really slow the line down. This problem is sometimes exacerbated due to the fact that this is a popular business. So, when you get here, if a lot of people are in front of you, or there are a lot of people waiting for their drinks, you may have to wait a while. That's just the fact of this business, it's definitely not a criticism. Overall, if you want that really fun and unique drink, that involves Boba or not, this is your place to go.

(1) I was really craving a Thai tea, and it wasn't on the two main menus, but they had a small sticker at the cash register I noticed AFTER we received our drinks. (2) I asked for the cashier's opinion between the Volcano Lava Run Boba and the Brown Sugar Latte -- the main difference is caffeine content with the Brown Sugar Latte having none (despite being a latte!) and the Volcano Lava Run Boba having caffeine. Would go again, and get a Thai tea.
I've been coming here for many years now, and the quality has always been amazing! This place has really rich, flavorful teas and delicious toppings. Service is really nice and drinks came out fast. My favorites are the House Milk Tea (Regular Sweet) with Grass Jelly, and the Osmanthus Oolong Tea (50% Sweet) with Crystal Boba! 10/10 read more

Came here on a Thursday night after a delicious dinner on Sawtelle and was so glad to find a yummy, no frills boba shop that is tasty, generous with boba servings and flavorful tea! There wasn't a long line and the service was kind and fast. Friendly staff member and a boba shop (full of inventory!) that I was happy to support greeted me upon entry. It was clean inside, and they had a bench where you can sit and hang out or wait for your order. I'll definitely be back to try more things! Also!! Appreciate the non dairy creamer that they have! This is a mom n pop cute cafe that offers a lot of boba options and a few food items. The classic milk tea with boba was on the sweeter side and not quite as strong as I would have preferred. There workers are kind, and there's a seating area while you wait for your drink inside read more

My friends and I were craving smoothies but ended up here after a hearty meal. I got the Regular White Peach Oolong Tea w/ Boba and 75% sweetness. Pretty sure that's where I went wrong because there was a significant drop in sugar where I would think I asked for 50% instead of 75% but that might just be me. I tried my friend's Mango Slushy and wished I got that one instead LOL Service was great. There was one worker doing both the register and making the drinks when I went and I can see the hard work put into these drinks. I'll have to return to get the slushy some day! read more

i love how their open late, great for a late night boba run! i'm not too fond of their boba. it's small and hard, typically like boba that's been cooking for a few hours so it's absorbed all the water and sugar to grow into a big squishy ball. as for tea flavor, it was pretty good, very milky, and the crème brûlée was pretty nice. my friends got fruit teas and they liked them. it's fairly busy but you'll get your drinks within like 10-15 mins their food items are not available past a certain time so keep that in mind if your looking for popcorn chicken stop the vibe is great place to come with friends, but just stop by bc nobody's really sitting down and hanging out there overall my rating is 3 stars cuz that's what i rate the quality of my drink. but other drinks may be potentially better. but i think i ordered a pretty standard boba drink and most of their drinks will be of that flavor/texture read more

I don't come here often but when I do I always get the matcha milk tea..and it does the job! Perks you right up! Today I got to see a group of regulars place their order and realized I've been sleeping on some of the other option. I will be back to try the Lava Flow and the coffee option that said mud slide I think. The owner is super friendly and funny..knew their order by heart and made sure we got our order in before them so we didn't get stuck waiting a long time. It's a small shop in a shopping center, easy to access. read more

I absolutely love this place! The drinks are well made & the food is sooo good. The owner and all the workers are so nice and friendly. They truly care about what they do and who comes in to grab a drink or a quick bite! I always come in to get the popcorn chicken and the hokkaido milk tea. read more

Quick friendly service. It was a little confusing on how to order as there is a QR code when you walk in that suggests ordering on your phone, yet you can also order at the counter with a person. I ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee with boba which was ready in minutes and it was really good. I just wish there was less ice and more drink. There's no seating inside, so it's grab and go. There's a small parking lot out front that gets full during busy times, yet there's usually street parking in the residential area behind the shopping center. read more

MY FAVORITE BOBA SPOT!! This place is so worth it. I cannot find a Hokkaido Milk Tea that tastes as good as this one. Service is always great, even when there is a long line. Parking is never a problem, the lot is pretty big. read more

Volcano tea house is victorious! I've been coming to Volcano Tea for a while now and I can honestly say it is one of my all time favorite boba spots. The best thing here is the popcorn chicken! It's really crunchy and juicy and flavorful! Whenever I'm in the area, I have to stop by and get a Thai tea + the chicken. The prices are pretty standard ($8 for chicken and $5-6 for Thai tea with boba). No where to sit and parking is kinda rough, but we usually get a good walk in by parking in the nearby neighborhood (check the street signs though!). There's lots of other places around (it's in the middle of Sawtelle) so it's very vibrant and lively. They typically take cash or Venmo and the service is usually good! I highly recommend! read more

Our Vietnamese coffee was delicious and well priced. Service was friendly and super fast. They have a large variety on their menu, there is something for everyone. Easy parking in the plaza, though it can get very full here. Great option if you are looking for a refreshing, pick me up in the area! read more
