Came here on a Thursday night after a delicious dinner on Sawtelle and was so glad to find a yummy, no frills boba shop that is tasty, generous with boba servings and flavorful tea! There wasn't a long line and the service was kind and fast. Friendly staff member and a boba shop (full of inventory!) that I was happy to support greeted me upon entry. Awful customer service! The older lady (owners wife I think) had a major attitude with my wife and right in front of of our three children! She was yelling at my wife because it was her first time in years returning to this business and she wasn't familiar with exactly how to place an order. This is almost an institution on Sawtelle, they are the longest running establishment that I know spanning over 25+ years of serving boba! I've been coming here that long and there is a reason why they are still here! They serve honest to goodness boba and to me the pearl tapioca are cooked perfectly. Yes, yes, they have other drinks that don't involve Boba, but from my experience, the majority of people that come here want one of their Boba drinks. What Volcano offers is a nice selection of great tasting drinks. They have various varieties of drinks whether it be coffee-based, milk-based, or fruit-based that you can either drink straight or add your Boba to. The way this business works is that you decide what you want, walk up to the counter, tell the person handling the counter your choice and they make it for you on the spot. Though this is a great process, and the staff really try to get your drink exactly right, this is also where some of the criticisms about this business arise. Due to the fact that some of the people that walk up to the counter really don't know what they want, and need to have some instructions from the staff, this can really slow the line down. This problem is sometimes exacerbated due to the fact that this is a popular business. So, when you get here, if a lot of people are in front of you, or there are a lot of people waiting for their drinks, you may have to wait a while. Don't park on the street, just way risky with parking enforcement I was about to until I saw the other 2 cars by me with parking tickets. Volcano tea house is victorious! I've been coming to Volcano Tea for a while now and I can honestly say it is one of my all time favorite boba spots. The best thing here is the popcorn chicken! It's really crunchy and juicy and flavorful! Whenever I'm in the area, I have to stop by and get a Thai tea + the chicken. The prices are pretty standard ($8 for chicken and $5-6 for Thai tea with boba). No where to sit and parking is kinda rough, but we usually get a good walk in by parking in the nearby neighborhood (check the street signs though!).
