This review is a little embarrassing for me to write, but I have a story to tell about the absolute wonderfulness of Tina at the Tea Rose Flower Shop. I received a call recently from Tina asking when I would be home for a flower delivery. We arranged a time and I then found a small box outside of my front door. When I opened it, I found a very pretty pink rose wrist corsage from my friend Matt. It was lovely, but I was confused. I'm quite a bit too old for prom and have been somewhat housebound due to a spinal injury. Also, Matt lives in California, so we had no plans to go anywhere together. Thinking the corsage may have been a mistake, I called the shop, explained, and asked Tina if she would double check the order. She did, and found that the corsage was the correct order. When I asked if I could disassemble it to maybe float the roses in a bowl, she said she would bring me something else. The next time I opened my front door, I was astonished to find one of the most beautiful flower arrangements I have ever seen. They had to have cost way more than the corsage originally ordered. And, it turns out that Matt, who is an uber romantic, choose a corsage in memory of one he bought for me 40 years ago when we attended the Black and White Ball together. Thus, my embarrassment. I showed them a picture of what I wanted the bouquet to look like and they copied it to a tee, well they actually made it look more amazing than the picture. I received compliments all day long and days after on my bouquet, the bridesmaids bouquets and pretty much all of the work. They are the super sweetest people to work with. Received an arrangement in a glass vase from a family member who usually has great taste. I thought the arrangement and choice of colors was out right ugly. Country powder blue twigs with white roses and orange day lilies and orange and yellow flowers. It was suppose to be primarily white roses with pink soft flowers. Tina & Dollie did the flowers for my wedding in November. I can't remember where I initially found them, but probably on The Knot or WeddingWire. I had seen a photo of a bouquet they did that was so vibrant and had such great texture, that I knew I wanted to consider them for my flowers, but was surprised that there weren't many reviews written about them. I went out on a whim and met with Dollie one day at their new space on Kimball. Dollie was so great and had tons of ideas, which was so helpful, because I needed guidance on what I really wanted. I knew I wanted bright red and lots of texture. Communication was good throughout, mostly e-mail contact, with my updated contract e-mailed to me every time I changed the number of flowers, or types of flowers I wanted. They were so flexible. The price quote was soo much cheaper than the other flower shop in Chicago I checked out too. My budget was less than $1500. On the day of the wedding, Tina & Dollie showed up very early to the reception and set up everything, then hand delivered the personal flowers to my hotel room. My bouquet was gorgeous & exactly what I'd imagined. I got tons of compliments on my flowers & love looking at the pictures of them. They were truly beautiful and I could have wanted nothing more. Tina a Dollie were our wedding day flower saviors. I am so grateful to them for the beautiful work that they did & for their absolute professionalism, patience and compassion. A few weeks before our wedding, the person who was going to do our flowers proved that she was not up to the job. Everything happens for a reason; A friend who is a caterer and event planner swooped in before panic could ensue and recommended Tina and Dollie. We were on a tight budget and even tighter time frame, but Tina and Dollie came through in spades. Dollie listened closely, quickly understood our taste, made suggestions completely in line with what we had in mind but were only able to vaguely describe. That in itself is an art. Dollie was able to tailor the order to our budget without sacrificing quality. The price we paid was more than reasonable. When the flowers were delivered, they actually took my breath away. They even upgraded my bouquet. as a surprise. For the reception, they didn't just design the centerpieces, but took in to account how they would look across the entire venue, varying the height to create an entire picture. The effect was stunning. The only sad thing that happened is that my bouquet got left in the limo after the ceremony on the way to the venue. When people see my wedding pictures, "I love your flowers!" comes before "Oh you look so beautiful!" I don't even mind :) I am a flower-lover, and Tina and Dollie created what I wanted with my wedding flowers perfectly - a seriously eye-catching and gorgeous bouquet. I wanted texture, and maroon, and gerbera daisy, and touches of white - a nontraditional bride bouquet - and they pulled it off, adding in sweet pea which I didn't even know I liked. Totally worth it and stunning in the pictures. Our table decorations (other than the flowers) were on the simple side - white linens, small favors, and your normal place settings, so I was depending on Tina and Dollie for the splashes of color and excitement in the center - and OH they came through. I had classy square vases, loosely arranged flowers as I requested, with lots of texture, color, and most of all the daisies were there. We also had flowers on our cake, and I don't even know what was involved to make it happen but somehow they coordinated with our venue, cake baker and event planner to make a gorgeous arrangement of flowers on the cake. Useful info about Tina and Dollie - if I remember correctly they're a pair of friends who do only weddings, and have done for years. So, they don't have a "flower shop" but instead an office where they meet clients for appointments - Worked for me. This was nice because with a May wedding, the flower shops I called were all preoccupied with Mother's Day, and were hemming and hawing about whether they could do a wedding so close. The office is a bit hard to see from the road so just google the address and park - look for the big flower sign. I worked mostly with Tina, and she was available by text, email or phone for confirmation and last minute details, which was really helpful. Finally, on the quote they give they're very transparent about what each thing costs, so if you're trying to cut back you can ask about specifics instead of dealing with a "package deal" where you don't know where the money is going. And, if you're trying to add something a few weeks beforehand you know how much it's going to add to the contract. read more

Out of all of our wedding vendors, I think I was most impressed with the work Tina and Dollie did for our wedding in July. Throughout the entire process, Dollie was very professional, helpful and very sweet! Dollie's suggestions throughout the process were extremely helpful - given I am a clueless tomboy and don't know the first thing about flowers. :) I gave her an idea of what colors I wanted incorporated and that I wanted to include the cattleya orchid in my bouquet since my mom named me after that flower. This orchid was not the easiest to work with but my bouquet and all of the flowers were absolutely gorgeous. I let Dollie know that we would be taking photos before the ceremony so she provided a couple extra boutonnieres in case the flowers wilted during our long photo session outdoors - they all lasted but it was great to have the extras as a backup. I would recommend Tina and Dollie's services to anyone - the flowers were so beautiful and the service they provided was top notch! read more

We worked with Tina for our wedding flowers, and she was fantastic. She worked around our budget and found ways to give us the look we wanted, without grabbing every last cent out of our pockets. The photograph we showed Tina of the centerpiece we wanted had some very interesting flowers that she hadn't heard of. She did her research and found a way to have them shipped in from New Zealand without adding extra cost to our total. Tina is soft spoken, calm, and easy to talk to. This review is long overdue! Tina and Dollie were AMAZING. I planned my wedding long distance last year and did most of my communication over email before actually meeting them in person. Basically I sent email upon email of photos or dos and don'ts. I probably sent a good 20 emails. I don't know how they did it. But when I went into their shop they had set up such beautiful samples of exactly what I was thinking but couldn't put into words. I had wanted limes incorporated into the arrangements and they made these beautiful flowers with limes - so amazing! The best part that the costs - very reasonable was a good bang for your buck! They worked with my budget. On the day of they were on time and really so sweet. I went up and hugged them when they arrived. My bouquet was more beautiful than I could imagine. I was so happy! Very disappointed with the flower arrangement I ordered for a wake/funeral. Rather than ordering on-line, I called a florist near the funeral home. I ordered a dozen roses, 6 yellow and 6 white. I specified a glass vase with greens, and the roses to be presented like a standard dozen roses arrangement and if needed, add something to the bottom of the vase so the flowers sit tall above the rim. I also requested they add larkspur or other similar type white flowers to make the arrangement look very full. I was told the arrangement would be $60, plus tax & $10 delivery. I mentioned that it was a high upcharge for a 1.5 mile delivery. She agreed and stated it would be $70 total that would include delivery and tax. I agreed. I stressed that I wanted the arrangement to look "full." If they needed to add more white or yellow flowers (larkspur, snapdragons, etc.) and would need to increase the price, that was okay. She agreed to email me a receipt. I did not get the receipt, I called, left a message and rec'd the receipt the next afternoon. The arrangement was NOT "full" in fact, the adjective I would choose is sparse. There were 3 larkspur-type flower that were not bloomed along with perhaps 6-8 stems of greens. The roses were cut to different lengths to present a "front" with shorter stems. Exactly the opposite as I requested. AND I was charged $10.87 more. I phoned, spoke to the same person to ask for clarification of what exactly was "added" to the arrangement to support the addl charge. I told her I was overall very disappointed with the arrangement. She asked if I wanted the add'l charge refunded, I said yes. What I should have said, what I really want is the flowers to have been as I ordered. Will never go back to this florist again! read more

Tina and Dollie were one of the florist our wedding planner had recommended to us. We met with two florists and loved Tina's energy. We were the difficult clients that had very little idea of what we wanted. Over a couple meetings she put two centerpieces together for us, one of which we loved and ended up using as the church flowers. We liked the second one but didn't think it would work with the venue space (the piece she put together was exactly what we had described to her). I called Tina and told her my concerns and asked for a fourth meeting. When I arrived I found out Tina (without being asked) drove out to the suburbs to look at our venue space so she could help put together a centerpiece that would compliment the room. She agreed that the last centerpiece would not work and we went back to the drawing board. By this time our wedding was less than two weeks away and we had changed the entire color scheme. There was no more time for sample centerpieces. The first flowers I saw were the bouquets. There are no words to describe how perfect they were. My bouquet was exactly what I had pictured in my head. We then arrived to the venue and my husband and I got to see the room before our guests arrived. All the stress and time we spent looking at flowers and meeting with Tina had paid off. The flowers were absolutely gorgeous and made the room come together. I would highly recommend Tina and Dollie to anyone. They will deliver!!! Tina and Dollie did my wedding and I thought they did a fantastic job. I mainly worked with Tina, who did a great job navigating the complicated mixed signals she was getting from mom, bride, and groom. We were all carrying on discussions "with passion," but Tina remained unruffled and still understood what we wanted, and gave lots of fun and unusual suggestions. I even called her like a week before the wedding asking if we could add another color or two to the bouquet... and she was nice enough to accommodate. The flowers were absolutely beautiful for the wedding... she was willing to find whatever we wanted (for example, cattalya orchids, which are big and beautiful but a big hard to get). She also offered very reasonable prices. She even took us to see the flowers ahead of time, which was so generous of her. She was easy for all of the other vendors to work with on the day of the wedding; everything was where we wanted it and everything looked beautiful, unique, and just as we imagined it. One thing I noticed and appreciated all throughout the process was that Tina kept suggesting ways to keep costs more reasonable. I didn't feel like she (like some in the wedding business) was in it just to make money... she honestly wanted us to have a good product and she knew how to make a beautiful effect without milking us for every available penny. I'm sure someone with a stricter budget than I had would also love working with Tina and Dollie. PS: Right now, they work out of their house. Not a big deal, just fyi--that's where you meet them. I was referred to Tina & Dollie from a family friend who used basil and mint in their wedding flowers. Tina & Dollie work and communicate together clearly and have unending energy. It is obvious how dedicated they are to their craft and making each event unique. I came with a portfolio of pictures of everything I wanted; Tina and Dollie took every idea and made it better, making every aspect of the of our wedding flowers unique. At one point, I used the restroom, and by the time I came back, they had thrown together a mock boquet of what I'd have the day of the wedding! It was a spectacular piece, just imagine the one the big day! On the wedding day, when I walked into the venue I was stunned with what I saw, every arrangement, boquet and centerpiece was just as we'd discussed, they were vibrant, well put together, and I still have a few centerpieces decorating the house: the flowers they use live so much longer than what I've experienced in the past. I micro-managed every single detail of my daughter's quinceanera except the flowers, and here's why: I had Tina and Dollie. Every time someone asked me what I was doing for tablescapes or flowers or decor I just said 'Tina and Dollie are handling that.' I know for damn certain I didn't pay enough for how absolutely stunning that room looked when they were done, and even my kitschy little idea of using empty Patron bottles as centerpieces was handled with grace and good taste - such that I had people asking me if they'd mind if I mimicked that setting!
