II have been a member of Tea Spa for about a year now and been going there for a little longer. I really like deep pressure for my messages and have found a few therapists I enjoy seeing. It is an odd location, at the corner of University and Georgia, but once inside, I find the atmosphere serene and peaceful. I go in stressed from work and like and come out relaxed. I get extremely tight muscles in my neck and back and my therapists is really good about focusing on the areas I ask for. I also find the price reasonable, for one regularly priced deep tissue message to pay for the membership, I receive the rest of my messages for a year at half price. I find this extremely reasonable for the price. I am happy continuing to go back. read more

First of all, the atmosphere was very peaceful and relaxed. That's why I gave it two stars. However, the service was not that pleasant. it made me feel like I was in a doctor office instead of a spa. The receptionist was not that welcoming when i first walked into the door. She just asked me to filled out some info. forms and told me to wait in waiting area. When you say thank you they didn't say you're welcome back, just "eh uh." i think this was very unprofessional. I bought an groupon for Brazilian wax. I have done Brazilian many times, they always asked me how was the wax temperature and which part did i want to wax or not, but this time the technician didn't ask me at all. She applied the wax on a very large area each time and the wax paper was not prepared, she cut the paper in front of me into very large stripes, I don't know if I should call it stripe because they r large pieces. she supposed to wax a small amount of hair each time, which would be less pain and more clean, but it made me feel she just wanted to get over with it. The even worse part was when she did the back, the wax was touched on my butthole, so when waxed other area near the butthole, the wax came off, it was really painful. When I left the tip for her, she didn't show any appreciation, she's sitting there and looking at the computer. When I was going to leave she was chatting and laughing with the receptionist. They did not prepare any tea or even water or me. I will never go back again! read more

The massages are pretty "meh". I went to a couple of different people since my coworkers all got together and got me a large gift certificate to this place after I had my daughter. Be forewarned -- their gift certificate expired after a year, so I have $67 I can no longer use because it expired. I've never seen gift cards/certificates expire that quickly. Usually after 5 years they charge you a fee for maintaining the account but a one year expiration is ridiculous. read more

I was welcomed by a friendly and polite girl in the front desk and Ben did a great job fixing my shoulders and lower back -- You know as a office work, my shoulders and lower back always gave me problem. Great prices and nice service. Also LOVE that you can book your appointments online! My only dislike is that in every room they have a sign that "for one hour of acceptable service a $20 tip is recommended." This seems extremely HIGH to me. Just had a couples massage here. Definitely not what we were expecting. I had Ben for my massage and I am sad to say it was terrible. He spent so much time putting oil all over me rather than massaging the muscles I had said hurt. I have had many massages, and it seemed there was no technique with this one. Wife and I went for a couple's massage with Groupon. We had been once before (non-groupon) and had a good experience. This time her masseuse was solid, however my younger male asian massage therapist with glasses was TERRIBLE! Weak hands with very poor technique (clueless to the trigger points), then killed my back with his elbows - over-compensating pressure in the wrong places making me wince! Head massage was poor and oddly "asymmetrical" when applying pressure with both hands to points on the brow and skull - distracting and unrelaxing. Ended with a painful foot massage - no rubbing, but rather using randomized pinpointed knuckle stabs, which I had to bear and grit. He doesn't know what he is doing - by all means, avoid! If you do get an appointment, call ahead and make sure you get one of the older more experienced massage therapists there. Get your money's worth and don't settle for a frustrating incompetent experience. We'll be trying elsewhere in the future for couples massages. read more

I love going to Tea Spa in Silver Spring because everyone is really friendly and it seems that they do want to provide the best service. I've never been a fan of Spa memberships before, but their membership is awesome - maybe that's way I'm going back each month! I only gave four stars this time because I felt like I was forgotten in the sauna (my massage was supposed to start at 12:30, but no one came until 12:40). I had to open to door to the sauna section, just to make sure that someone knew I was in there! But really, the massages are great, the facials are wonderful and the sauna is relaxing! read more

I went yesterday on my birthday for a massage. Although I was greeted by a woman upon entrance, I was ignored for a few minutes after. No one got up to take my intake sheet. I had to get up and hand it to the staff at the desk who were not friendly. Aside from that I felt the massage was rushed and it was definitely was around 35 minutes long as opposed to a full hour. Adding 15 minutes or more for me to change clothes I was still out of the room in under an hour. Additionally the massage was mediocre. I will never return to tea spa. read more

I've purchased several groupons for massages over the past year but this one was the most professional and thorough. I love massages and am also obsessed about collecting coupons, so I was thrilled when Groupon had a deal for Tea Spa. This is especially true because I live about 10 min away from Wheaton and am getting sick of having to go into DC or VA all the time to use my coupons. Also, Tea Spa has free parking! The staff was friendly and down-to-earth. I didn't feel pressured to buy anything extra, and the atmosphere was relaxing but non-pretentious. It's nice that they offer water or tea while you wait too. My favorite places are the ones that are down-to-business and not overly fixated on appearances or pretense (as long as it looks clean and reasonably attractive, which Tea Spa does, it's fine by me). I loved the actual massage. The massage therapist (I think her name was Iris) used a nice amount of pressure and focused on my problem areas. She was friendly too. It was overall a very pleasant experience. I think I'll go back there when my budget allows, since she said they have monthly discounts anyway, and it's so close to my house. The part of Wheaton it's in isn't a yuppie area like Arlington or Georgetown, but I don't feel like it's unsafe to walk around there during the day or anything. As a poor grad student, it's nice for me because a less ritzy area means less expensive massages and bite to eat nearby afterwards. read more

I have been here 4 or 5 times-a different "therapist" each visit! I have not been disappointed-each a little different-some more "agressive" than others. Always "professional" and always have focused on areas I have problems with. Maybe the "ambiance" is not what some are used to-I have been to other spa's and this is #1 on my list. Very good value. As others have noted, it is in an odd spot, but that makes me like it all the more. I've been there maybe 6-8 times in the last year and a half, and the therapists are always responsive to my needs. At one point during my massage yesterday I thought "this is what heaven must be like!" They seem to be a growing business (I'm now having to book ahead), and thus have some kinks to work out, but they are very willing to work with you and take suggestions, as evidenced by comments on this blog. Pregnant clients please read if you purchased a Groupon!! I purchased a Groupon back in June for this place. I purchased the $59 for one 60-minute customized signature massage ($120 value). I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and I informed the receptionist and she said I was fine to get a massage as long as I was out of my first trimester. Another person, who did not identify them self over the phone, started speaking in the background and was interrupting my questions to the receptionist. She got on the phone and told me I had to pay $25 additional to the $59 that I paid since I was "upgrading" to a Prenatal Massage. Mind you, this is a massage listed as $95 and the value of my purchase was $120. On their website, they do not even list a customized signature massage in their list of services. I understand that this is not the exact massage that I paid for, but the Groupon will be expired by the time I am no longer pregnant. I was completely turned off by their lack of customer service and immediately told them that I would not be getting a massage at their establishment. read more

I'm disappointed to write this review. I had an appointment yesterday for an underarm wax. While my waxer did an overall good job, she dipped the same stick in the wax pot the whole time. I regret not saying something at the time, but I can't imagine that this is the first time, so the wax was already gross as far as I was concerned. I never purchased a massage through groupon before because I was always hesitant that I would get a horrible service in a nasty place. Well this wasn't the case. The place is simple but very clean. The receptionist was very friendly and gave me the form as soon as I got in. I was taken to the massage room right away and Ben never went over my forms with me (although I saw him reading it). In the forms I asked for a deep tissue massage and I requested special attention to my upper back and left shoulder because of chronic pain. The massage was very relaxing specially the leg parts. I liked it a lot. However it didn't feel like a deep tissue massage. Even though Ben was very firm when doing the massage he did not work much through my nots (and have some big ones) in my upper back and he didn't do anything in my shoulder/neck muscle (trapezius) where the nots cause my chronic shoulder pain. At the end of the massage I asked him if he could make a little bit of pressure on my left trapezius because my shoulder was hurting a lot and he told me that he felt some tension in my muscles and that I should stretch it every two hours and left. Even though the message was very relaxing I didn't go there for that. I went there because my nots were (and still are) killing me and I needed some professional help to start getting rid of it. I gave it two stars because even thought the service was good it wasn't what I had requested and I left without getting what I paid for. read more

I bought sessions to do the infrared sauna and on the day of my first appointment, I received a call telling me the sauna was broken and they didn't know when it would be fixed. I was so disappointed that I asked for a refund on all four sessions, which they readily gave. I purchased a tea spa groupon and made an appointment for a massage. The staff seemed very nice. The place is nothing to write home about but it was clean. The massage, however was awful. My therapist was Alba. She kept droppong the stones and knocking things over as she moved around the table. She asked me about 10 times if the stones were too hot or if the pressure was ok. It was so distracting, I had to tell her to stop asking me-that I would tell her if the stones were too hot or pressure too strong. She did not seem to know how to smoothly use the stones because they kept falling off my body. I purchased two groupons-the massage was so bad, I won't be coming back. Maybe I can gift the other groupon that I have but I don't want any of my friends to experience such a horrible massage! read more
