At first, my husband was able to see Dr. Thakkar directly for the first few visits, and we appreciated having the neurologist personally evaluate his condition and treatment. After those initial 2-3 appointments, however, all subsequent visits were scheduled with a physician assistant instead of with Dr. Thakkar, even though my husband's case is long‑standing and complex. I understand that practices often use PAs to help with scheduling and workload, but as a caregiver I expected my husband to be followed primarily by the neurologist we chose. Over time it felt like we no longer truly had access to Dr. Thakkar himself, which was disappointing and concerning given the seriousness and duration of my husband's Parkinson's. Because of this, I eventually decided to stop bringing my husband to this office and moved his care to a different neurologist who sees him personally at each visit. This review reflects our personal experience and expectations; other patients may feel differently, but continuity with the actual neurologist was important enough that we chose to seek care elsewhere.

I would say he is good to see if you have a definitive diagnosis but not if you are searching for a diagnosis. My long drive to Newport Beach was a waste of my time and further discomfort. A lot of doctors brush me and my issues off due to my young age, but any potential problem you might have, she is very on top of and wants to figure out the cause. Regarding waiting- I came about 20 minutes early to both my appointments and she took me in early with no problem. Overall a super nice and competent doc!

If I did have to wait, I would understand or reschedule. I see from other reviews that people are mixed on her demeanor and use of testing. I personally like that she is direct and to the point, gives clear recommendations and will run the tests you want to rule out things you are worried about (genetic predisposition to certain diseases, symptoms, etc). Given that she is easy to get into see and takes insurance which is rare in this day and age for good doctor, I am thrilled I found her and tell people about her. Doctors are business people too. In this country, f they cannot run their business, they will be out of business and not be able to help people. So yes, the good ones have developed relationships with other practitioners over time. For me this was INVALUABLE when I had a crisis that seemed like frozen shoulder and though I see her as my neurologist, she replied to my email immediately when I reached out for a referral so I could see an ortho and not have to wait 6 weeks in pain. She got me in for an MRI that very day, got me meds that I needed and I was out of pain in four hours with something I could've been dealing with for six months to a year. I ended up resolving the shoulder with my acupuncturist-chiro within days and following up with an ortho thru my insurance in a week. Her contact at the imaging center was kind enough to take my MRI cd to the ortho I had found on my own because I was working and could not run to get it in time!!!! That is the power of knowing other professionals! I was on the meds for just three days and she only wrote the prescription for a 7 day supply. I know she doesn't want people to be on meds but will Rx when needed. I was astounded in how helpful she was when I emailed her. She replies to emails within 5 to 15 mins. And if she did not, I would be okay with that. I had to go on blood pressure medication (only after she had me track it for 2 weeks) because of what turned out to be that I was having small Lacunar strokes (visible on my MRI) while I slept due to sleep apnea un-diagnosed and when I changed my job and my blood pressure went down we kept reducing medication and I don't need it anymore. She does not want her patients to be on meds. She's happy I am not on any; she said so herself when I saw her the other day. She did do extensive blood work so we could rule anything bad. For me I was fortunate that most of her visits and testing was covered by insurance. If a person did not have good insurance I could see being leery of her. She is direct and to the point. If you are getting scary test results and she is super direct, it could be disconcerting. She really cares for her patients but she is clearly not everyone's cup of tea and that is okay!

She was rude to me in the hospital. So, my mom NEVER SAW THE SURGEON postoperative lt. She ONLY SPOKE TO THE PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT. This is a horrible practice with terrible office staff. The surgeon, physician assistant do not have a caring bedside manner or run the office effectively. I am sad for my mom, because she was told this was the best doctor at Hoag. I do not recommend this surgeon, physician assistant, office, or practice.

Please don't waste any more time or money with other doctors…read more We are no stranger to Migraines in our family. And we've been to a plethora of Neurologists. Three out of our four family members have daily migraines. Our journey has been long and hard. When my kids were younger I brought them to see Dr. Hutchinson. She is the BEST person. She's kind and genuinely cares. My kids felt safe with her and she was there for them. Fast forward to 2021. I just had an appointment with Dr. Molly because my Migraines have been getting the best of me lately. She is also AMAZING! She spent a lot of time with me to help navigate my complicated symptoms. She's down to earth and she actually listened. It's likely that you've been traumatized by the medical system. I'm sorry for that. When doctors (even specialists) try to treat migraines that are chronic or complicated, that aren't responding to medications or other treatments - they tend to blame the patient. "It's all in your head", or "Maybe you just need to see a psychologist". They feel helpless within the situation and tend to blame the patient. It must be the patient's fault if the treatment prescribed doesn't work. Neither of these amazing ladies will blame you or shame you for having Migraines or mental health issues. It's not your fault you have Migraines. Dr. Hutchinson's office is private pay. You may be thinking that you aren't worth the investment or you're worried about wasting your hard earned money. Perhaps you're concerned that you won't be helped. I'm here to say that you owe it to yourself to try - even if you've tried everything else. At the very least you'll be genuinely understood and acknowleged. And it's highly likely you'll be treated properly and improve your quality of life dramatically. :)
