Amvets is my #1 go-to thrift store. Just be aware that the parking lot can be a bit sketchy at times because there are normally drifters hanging out around there. don't let that stop you from coming to this big beautiful place! I don't always find a good selection for clothes at most thrift store but here i always find something. they have a vast array of pants, shirts, shoes and things for the hoe. I got the cutest little play kitchen for my toddler. It was in excellent condition and it was only $35! that was a steal in my opinion because it came with all of the pieces, had a light up burner and everything. when you shop here i think i remember they ask that you keep the hangers on the rack. i try to do that at most places so i don't have to walk up with a bunch of hangers. come here during the Halloween season to find cheap costumes. they turn the back room into a Halloween central! you can find costumes and decorations for cheap! read more

Sad to hear about the layoffs of the employees. Hopefully corporate knows what they're doing. I've been coming here for years, and recently it's been bad every Wednesday used to be super busy and now it's like a normal day, senior discount really doesn't make a difference unless you buy so much. The prices increase for all women's shirts, blouses etc, shoes are price at 7.99 and there nearly coming apart. Ever since the new district manager took over everything just inflated with prices. Haven't been here in a long time. I wanted to check out a couple thrift stores in the area in search of workout pants. I found them all grouped together on one row. I just had to check the tags on each pair for sizing. I found three pairs I liked and when I checked out, the total was $12 and some change for all three. I didn't have to wait to check out and the girl who helped me was really nice. This store wasn't very big compared to some of the other thrift stores in town, but it was neat and organized. We shop clothing and frequently find new tops and mens shirts, both with original tags. Amvets make grab-bags that are fun also.

The worker is pleasant and friendly, they have a large selections and they're always cleaning up the areas. The pricing change lot for clothes I can't pay $5.00 and up on clothes, it's a thrift store not a department store but the rest of store the items are still a decent price, unless they they change their prices even higher. I go sometimes but not often. I wish it will go back when prices were reasonable. read more

Amvets used to be one of my favorite thrift stores... not anymore. They increased their prices by $2-3 per item! I used to also get a card to stamp after my purchases and they don't do that anymore either. Workers are pretty rude... not very friendly. Every employee seems like they hate their job. They also decreased the discount for seniors. Seems like the store just got greedy. Good selection of clothes but not sure if it's worth it anymore with the price increases and limited discounts available. read more

However, they missed the last pick up on a Monday, then showed up on a Wednesday with no warning and said noone was home. Lie. Scheduled on the 29th. They showed up but didn't take the things. Although they were labeled donate, just like the at least 20 times before. Now they're saying it has to say Am vet on it. You're not the only thrift store in town. No fitting rooms. How can you buy clothes without trying them on? There were a lot of cashiers though and they seemed friendly.

I want to first explain that I have been a faithful customer for over 40 years, since you were located downtown. I have referred customers to you. Some are from Madera and foothills. I let them know that the store is clean, friendly service and reasonable prices. I love that you have special discounts to veterans, teachers and seniors. I often run into people I have referred, on senior day. I work over 60 hours a week, so when I have a chance to go there I'm there. Have rarely spent less than $100 at each visit. Last time I visited, about 2 weeks ago, I was terribly disappointed and so were several customers, in fact 3 of them walked out. They had decreased the amount of discount for seniors, to 10%! It has been 20% for the longest time. What happened! Plus other color tag discounts, also were eliminated. I was so upset. I asked one of your employees, and all they could say was that, it's under new management. Don't you realize that you will, I assure you, loose revenue. Just that day, 3 customers walked out upset. I was surprised that, that day, SENIOR DAY, there were hardly that many customers, I was surprised that I was able to get a cart and parking, that rarely happens! You need to reconsider that you are doing. I felt it was important that I write and let you know how I feel. Didn't know what else to do. Kind of torn on this place. Adventured here this morning on a whim. I got there at 9:30 and it was already packed. I found some good finds but overall I would say the store was super overpriced. There were shoes being sold for 20$ and movies were 5$. The place was kind of messy too. Most thrift stores charge half of what they charge. I didn't like that they charged sales tax as most thrift stores don't. Probably won't be going back for a while. Also- they staple the tags onto the clothes!!!! And not just regular staples. Super duty staples that are painful to get off. And they damage the clothes. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. They claim to be a thrift store for veterans but I never noticed them donating to veteran programs. The store is disgusting and ALWAYS dirty. Below zero stars if I could. When going to the VA I'll occasionally stop in to browse since I'm not from the area. It is always dirty, but whatever. Today I went with my fiancé and he wanted a last minute coat for our wedding in a couple days. Sure we could go get it new but why not check. Well he found a NWT coat that fit perfectly and we were thrilled to not have to hunt for another item before the ceremony. We go to check out and we're told it is senior day and they get 25% off, vets only 10% OK? He shows the vet ID and gets ready to pay , then the managing cashier says oh we can't sell this because there is no price tag. Even though ALL the coats were priced the same. We let them know how important it was, literally for a wedding , then some other lady jumps in saying they just can't . Of course it was upsetting and we said it was unbelievable that NO exception or consideration is being made. We proceeded to leave and another cashier male LOUDLY was mocking and laughing at us and the situation!!! Appalling ! Then, I lost my temper . I couldn't believe the disrespect and to mock something that couldn't been special for the customer who is the VET that you are supposedly working for ?? Discusting. We didn't even pull the "veteran card" but the fact is, he is. So what the hell is going on here? I let that guy know what a real loser he was I I hope he gets fired. He doesn't even deserve to work at a vet thrift store. Clearly the manager couldn't think on his own , so we will NEVER support a place like this. We do so much Charity and volunteering and I can't even comprehend how a place gets so disconnected from what they are supposed to be representing. Don't support it! went to Amvet's today. the parking lot was EMPTY.. so weird. normally, senior day has a line to get in....Well...I soon discovered why. New management is out to take every one of your pennies. they have reduced the veterans 20% discount to 10%. they have reduced the seniors day discount from 20% to 10%. they've done away altogether with their Thursday, student and teachers discount, and they will only do one color discount a day at 50% rather than the two one at 50% the other at 75%. and they don't combine any discounts anymore. so if you're a senior. Or a veteran, you can not get that on top of the daily discount anymore. You can have one or the other. and if you have a 50% off item, you have to get back in line in order to get that 50% off if you're a senior or a veteran. Because they will not ring up one with the other. so today, I was FORCED to only Ring up my regular priced items with my 10% senior discount. Then anything that was the daily 50% off, I had to keep in my cart. Turn around, get back in line and wait to ring them up separately..no...im not joking. They refused to do separate ringing in an effort to Make it as Inconvenient as possible for you to get a discount. The discount that they offered to get you here to begin with.. So..if you are a senior or a veteran and you have 10 things in your cart, you can ring them all up at your discount 10%. But if you happen to have a daily 50% off, they won't give you that at 50% off, you have to get back in line. It's really messed up. and the poor cashiers feel terrible because they've got management Watching them like Hawks and will punish them if they try to do the right thing. There is a pretty good shoe section in front, a very sad book collection in the back, full clothes racks but old and not worth what they are asking, and some random 'goodie-bag' like items in clear plastic on the shelves. On January 18, 2022, AMVETS shows up for a scheduled donation truck pick up. The two lazy men remained in the truck until the driver got out and said he could not come into the house. The loveseat was at the doorway and he made us carry the love seat to him! So lazy and not only that the man refused the loveseat because he said their was a spider on it. My daughter in law wiped is away and told him it was because he made us drag it out to him under the shade tree. I am beginning to see a pattern of Thrift store abuse by this same company and other veterans truck pick ups. The driver came already mentally prepared to NOT! take the lovely leather loveseat. The receptionist also has a very wicked attitude and stated to my daughter in law that it was put in their system for all their drivers not to pick up at our address! What was that all about? We called a local thrift store and they picked it up & sold it that same day for $150.00! Clothes are over priced and most employees are not professional. If you're trying to make you're store appear retail then your staff should be professional and have good customer service. Most staff are always engaging in gossip, they are loud, make fun of each other and they even curse. I often donate bags of merchandise to your store, 3 times a year which include clothes, housemates, shoes and toys. However, the 2 times I asked for a discount on dirty and possibly stained clothing, your staff refused and was rude as if I was trying to rip them off. I sent a message regarding this and never got a reply so I'm no longer shopping or donating. Yes I wrote a review 2 years ago but I have them another chance as I live close by. Awful! I'm an avid thrift store shopper and I support the help they give to Veterans, but they are unorganized and overpriced. I was there for 5-10 minutes and the smell almost made me throw up. I had to run out of there. They have tons of clothes, but most were $7 and up. You might as well go to Ross and buy new brand name clothes for those prices. Their furniture that they put out is poor quality and very expensive. I have been to Goodwills both in Fresno and Clovis. I have been to DAV and I have been to the Salvation army and those places are not as expensive as Amvets and a lot cleaner with better things. I'm not one to get grossed out by a second hand store, but I definitely need a shower after being in here for 5-10 minutes. read more

Nothing but bad reviews in the past for this place but I didn't experience anything bad while I was there. I'm a veteran and had a gift card given to me, so when I was just driving, noticed this placed and stopped by. First of all the place was packed full of people, I noticed a large men's clothing section and since I needed to do some shopping for fall stuff, checked it out after I got a floor lamp for $10. Got a nice starters pull over type shirt that looked brand new (the type of shirt you would see in the mall or Big 5 sporting goods) and a couple of long shelve shirts that were in very good condition also a tee shirt all for like $3 bucks a shirt, you can't beat that. They had a lot of new looking jackets as well but nothing in my size unfortunately. As far as customer service goes, when I went up to the cashier I smiled and said how are doing and she did the same plus when first walked in, I asked a salesman did they have any lamps? He stopped what he was doing and found me one. Most of the reviews of this place are older so I can tell you it seems that stuff is not happening in 2015. Maybe I'm bias because I love thrift stores, my favorite shirt that I recently got complimented on, was from a thrift store. This is my go-to place to donate my material items that I no longer need or hold value to. I rarely shop here, but I do look around once in a while. There are some pretty cool stuff. I should note that one or two of the emplyees were very polite and professional, however the Wednesday afternoon manager and a female staff member behind the counter were very rude and unprofessional. I had purchased a $2.95 set of speakers the day before, and when I got home they were completely non-functional. The manager agreed to exchange them for credit towards another item, but made a huge deal about it. Like it was somehow my fault they sold me broken electronics. Lol Anyway, long story short, I shoped around for a while, found a painting that I figured was half decent and when I went to check out, the manager said "oh no, it has to be exactly a $2.95 white tag item". Are you kidding me??? Why on earth would it matter? Then this manager, which I had never met before, tells me ALL her cashiers have seen me here before trying to exchange stuff. Seriously?
