I worked with Mar and her team for my wedding and they were absolutely exceptional, I couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. I was lucky enough to work with Mar for hair and Vanessa for make up. The trial was both so helpful and so much fun. They were both extremely flexible and open to feedback which made me feel comfortable enough to figure out what I wanted (which was different to the inspiration pictures I had selected - they were definitely not me!). I truly don't know where to start! First I am a Type A person that has a very clear understanding of what I wanted to look like on my wedding day. I have been to MANY salons that promised me from their own website and Yelp reviews that my experience would be on par. Besides 1 time in Hawaii in 2005 - I have NEVER been satisfied with the outcome. Enters TEAM Hair and Makeup - from the beginning they wanted to see my vision upfront from the dress I chose to the looks I was considering. I was greeted by Nicole who politely accepted my tardiness and sat down with Mar for a good 20 minutes as we discussed my wedding, my dress, my family and of course my look. They cared. They didn't just plop me in a seat and go to town on my hair and make up. After my first trial they took down full shots, made notes on everything and were organized for my day of. On my wedding day they arrived on time, had 4 stylists with them and promptly got to work turning my bridal suite into a beauty salon. Within less then 3-4 hours, my bridal party had beautifully styled hair and makeup that complimented their outfit, personality, and more important their face! During the entire experience Mar watched and expertly guided some of her make up artists and hairstylists to ensure the turn out of each of my family members was perfect. I have to thank Nicole for dealing with my high maintenance mother and even giving her a free lip gloss - which I joked was her lollipop for being good. More so, Mar personally washed the hair of one of my friends (which I couldn't believe) because her hair turned out not to be clean. The styling of my hair for my wedding was the one and only disappointment of the day and makes me cringe when I look back at our photos or video. Like any bride, I had hoped to look my best on my wedding day and had always had a very specific vision for this look. I hired TEAM Hair & Makeup based on their reputation as "the best of the best" in bridal beauty (with correspondingly high prices--although I would have paid double to have felt decent about my wedding day hair). What I ended up with was a complete departure from my intended look and, in my opinion, some of the worst professional styling I've experienced in terms of appearance and longevity. I completed a trial run shortly before the wedding and left very satisfied with the agreed-upon look. I was especially pleased with how well the hair held up through a full (humid/overcast) day of running errands. I expressed this to the stylist before she started on the wedding day as we looked over my trial photo. On the day of the wedding, as during the trial, I did not have the opportunity to watch the stylist as she worked, only seeing the finished result. I will admit that I gave TEAM five stars on their day-of review. I was totally caught up in the flow and excitement of the day and, looking back, somewhat blinded by my conviction that they could do no wrong. I think it's understandable for a bride to be focused elsewhere on her wedding day, trusting the professionals to assure she looks good for the duration of the event. (This is in large part what a trial is for.) That aside, it really wasn't until later when I saw myself in photos from various angles and points in the day that my dissatisfaction with the styling was fully realized. On top of the fact that my wedding look turned out so different than intended, in my opinion, the hair was just oddly and poorly styled--not at all up to par with the appearance and attention to detail expected from TEAM. I'm attaching a few photos that I think say it all... In contrast to my trial hair (beautifully soft, smooth, and uniform Hollywood waves), I would describe the day-of curls as thinner and tighter, piecey, and sloppy. Even if this discrepancy had been identified after the reveal of the finished wedding style, with our timeline, the complete re-do required to achieve the look and quality of the trial would not have been feasible. While TEAM prides themselves on creating polished, long-lasting looks, I felt like mine was anything but. In photos from the cocktail hour and reception (taken after minimal activity in mild weather) the hair appears very messy, inconsistently curled, and lumpy--hardly like I spent hundreds of dollars on high-end styling just hours before. I can't imagine a professional stylist, particularly one of this caliber, standing behind this outcome. I will conclude this review by stating that I did discuss these grievances with company owner Mar back in September and received a refund for the hair trial (given that we both agreed it was useless as a preview of the wedding day style). She additionally offered to pay for retouching of our wedding photos, although I declined this offer. Even if a natural-looking digital fix could be achieved in some photos, it wouldn't change how I know I looked on the day. I do appreciate her efforts to rectify an unfortunately irredeemable situation. I was discouraged from posting this review, but given how extremely letdown I felt (and continue to feel any time I look at photos from my wedding), I ultimately decided it was important to share an account of my less than positive experience for others to make of it what they will. read more

After seeing just a few photos of my dress and hearing my description of our wedding, she immediately intuited and understood the look and feel I was hoping to achieve. When the big day finally arrived, I felt so at ease knowing I was in good hands. I understand they were on holiday break and explains the delayed response, but communication afterwards is awful. MAR specifically was the worst to work with. I think a lot of it was also nerves on my end that was making me so picky and unsure, and also the different lighting in the hotel room, and both girls were so sweet about making sure I was happy with everything before I left, and completely calmed my nerves. They also have such a good understanding of how the hair and makeup will translate in PHOTOS. It may look heavy at first in person, but it settles in, and the photos look incredible. I got compliment after compliment on both hair and makeup throughout the night, and I felt so beautiful from the first look to the cake cutting all the way through the last guests trickling out. Their lip stain is amazing and stays on all night. I reapplied my lipstick often anyway, but the stain is there for when you don't have time for touch-ups. I'm half Asian so I was apprehensive about having my makeup done because most makeup artists have no clue how to do my eyes. My mom looked 10 years younger. My bridesmaids liked the results so much that they decided to get their makeup done as well. The stylist of TEAM is beyond talented in both makeup and hair stylist. They listen to what style you're looking for, but also give their professional point of view when necessary. I never looked better than on my wedding day and my day-after shoot, and that is all thanks to Mar of TEAM Hair & Makeup. Mar is not only a great hair and makeup artist, but also a very savvy businesswoman, and she knows how to run a business and keep her customers happy. She came up to SF and did my consultation in my apartment and listened to me gripe about everything I didn't like about the way I looked. After she was done (at approximately 8:30 am...so early!), she had me wear the new look for the entire day to see how I would feel about it after several hours. I had a few minor pieces of feedback, which were then incorporated into the wedding day look. On the day of the wedding, Mar came out to Haiku Mill in Maui and did my hair and makeup, my sister's (the maid of honor) and my mother's. Everything went very smoothly until we got to my mom's hair. She had recently gotten a haircut that had layers that were way too short. And she wanted it curled and left down. Following her wishes, the hairstyle looked a bit like a mullet. I wanted my mom to put her hair up but she didn't want to because she thought it would make her look old. Mar to the rescue! She calmed us both down and was able to coax my mother into an elegant style that made both of us happy. The next day, Mar came out to my hotel to do my hair and makeup again for my day-after shoot. Ok ladies, listen up. Do not go anywhere else to get your hair/makeup done for your big day. I have had my hair and makeup done by multiple makeup/celebrity artists and Mar is the best around. She MADE my wedding day... Not only did she provide flawless execution of the plethora of pinterest pictures I brought (I mean, who doesn't want to look like Megan Fox?) but she zipped me into my dress and gave me some of the best advice I've ever received. Sitting for two hours is usually tortorous with the average person, well, not with Mar. She can talk about anything, make you laugh so hard you might piss yourself and still airbrush the s@*$ out of your pimples. It's like hanging out with a bff who knows you better than you know yourself. If you are the type of bride who begins to freak out, has crazy family or need to pop a few martini's to calm your nerves don't worry. Mar will shoo out any crazy aunt, find you a drink and make you smile no matter how stressed you are. She is seriously amazing. My family is a little crazy and Mar set up security, got me lunch and continued to airbrush throughout all of the hoopla. Truly incredible. The day of our wedding it was raining and Mar managed to keep my makeup intact amidst all of the water and crying during the ceremony. I not only looked like Gisele, I felt like her. Mar, a thank you is not enough, a glowing Yelp review and even trying to convince all these other brides how incredible you are just won't even come close to how incredible and amazing you and the services you provide are. We had Nicole doing our makeup and Kita doing our hair for my wedding. There were 6 girls and 2 moms and everyone loved them! At my trial, they made sure I (and the mothers) were 100% satisfied with the results before we left and they took pictures to reference on the day of. On the day of, they were early so they could set up and still be on time. Seriously, they were so perfect. My hair was more beautiful than I could've ever imagined. My makeup was beautiful without being too much. I used their hair extensions as well which were a very high quality and helped my curls stay in literally the entire day. They recommended that I make a hair and makeup vision board for my bridesmaids which was an amazing suggestion because my bridesmaids had no idea what to tell them they wanted and it helped give the day an organized look. Also, I had been growing my hair out for my wedding and wanted it cut before we left for our honeymoon. So, Kita came to my hotel room the day after the wedding to cut my hair. I found TEAM Hair & Makeup on Style Me Pretty - SMP has a very distinct style and they curate their recommendations to match that aesthetic so if you like that style, you will love the things that TEAM can do for you. It was such an easy experience working with TEAM. They were super organized (they have a chart that they fill out when you go in for your trial that helps them do the EXACT same makeup for you on your wedding day) - it was something that made me feel very comfortable trusting them for such an important day. They ask you to show them pictures of what you like and they really used those photos to help sculpt the perfect look for me so come prepared and they'll do whatever you want! On top of their quick email responses and top-notch organization, the people we worked with were the absolute best! The three stylists we had for the wedding were Bethany, Emma and Jenny and they were so much fun to hang out with all morning. They were really upbeat and funny and did everything they could to make sure the 8 of us (me, my mom and mother-in law and my 5 bridesmaids) were happy with our hair and makeup. I didn't feel rushed at all although I have to recommend that if you have a lot of people getting their hair + makeup done - you should add an extra hour or hour and a half to what they recommend because I added an hour for contingencies and THANK GOODNESS I did that. They arrived 10 minutes early, but they finished at the exact moment our limo showed up to take us to the venue. My email exchanges with their scheduler estimated that they'd be done a full hour before that. Another recommendation: the contract says they are supposed to give the bride lipgloss for touch-ups during the wedding. I did not receive this. I wish I had remembered to ask for it because I really needed it after about 2 hours. All in all, I had a great experience with TEAM and would recommend them to anyone. read more

We hired Mar and Christina for our wedding in Baltimore. They were hired to do 4 bridal looks + 4 additional hair and makeup. First, they nailed every look. The first look was a modern and playful, the second was more traditional, third was hollywood glam, and the final was a costume afterparty. The hair was perfect, and makeup looked super glamorous. Second, and more importantly, they were the most amazing source of support throughout the process. They ensured I was eating, breathing, and reducing stress on my big day. During the photos, Mar not only did touchups but would jump in to rearrange my dress, helping ensure the entire style came together. Finally, they are just good people with good energy. My bridal party and I recently had our hair & make-up done by Team for my wedding. The stylists showed up early, prepared and ready to go. They were both very sweet, lovely to work with and eager to please. Our younger bridesmaids (girls @ 11 years old) chose more complicated braided updos etc. They were wonderful and the girls loved their hair. I chose to have my hair down... and while I liked it, I wasn't overly excited about it. Unfortunately I had chosen to go second to last (among my bridal party) as I wanted my hair fresh for the long day... therefore we didn't have much time to make many changes. (If I could have a do over I'd choose to go earlier in my line up). I assume with more time we could've fixed my hair. We also struggled a bit with my make-up. I just never loved the color pallets...despite having two trials and despite the stylists trying very hard to find the right combos (I even looked at all their colors and really didn't see ones I wanted to use). I had brought in a lip stick hoping they could match it in a stain to last all night. It didn't happen. I ended up using my own lipstick (and other make-up). While most vendors we used were smaller / independent contractors and very ready to accommodate custom requests etc. TEAM is like a corporation. You are, for example, reminded of their strict contract provisions if you try to make small adjustments after signing (I.e., I requested simply reducing the number of bridesmaids having their hair done by ONE (though still remaining well above the minimum required) and received a not so lovely email response reminding me that it was beyond the allowed time (it was just under two weeks before my wedding) and reminding me of the contract etc. The corporate feeling / strict contract component of TEAM was a turn-off to me. Their process for applying mascara was also frustrating... they explain that to prevent transfer of any infection etc. they put the mascara onto a fresh wand each time to then apply to your lashes. This all sounds logical etc. and I respected their intentions... however the reality is very minimal mascara ends up getting on your lashes and it's very time consuming to repeat this process over and over. I ended up just grabbing my $8 Maybeline mascara and quickly applying it. My strong suggestion is to give each bride a new mascara ... they're paying a small fortune after all. A new mascara would be an easy remedy. But again... the actual stylists could not have been nicer and did try hard to please. read more

I am not one to write reviews. But I really do need to tell everyone about my fantastic experience with Mar and her team. Mar is just amazing. From the day we met at our consultation, until the day she stepped into my room (on time!) on the morning of my wedding, she was able to execute everything I asked for in both hair and makeup. I had an elaborate wedding, since I'm chinese, I needed to do at least 3 outfit and hair and makeup changes. I had a conservative Chinese look, my bridal look, and my evening look. And Mar was able to do them all efficiently and beautifully. Each look was original and different from the last; and she did all of it in a snap. She also remembered EVERYTHING we spoke about at our consultation which was almost 4-5 months before the wedding day. Also, I know that us Asian women are very nervous when we have someone non-asian do our makeup....but honestly, she knew how to contour my face and eyes perfectly. I looked....not only NORMAL, but GORGEOUS. Mar and her team were also EXTREMELY accommodating to my mom, my mother in law, and my bridesmaids. If they didn't feel comfortable, they'd whip up another hairstyle NO PROBLEM, no attitude, nothing. It made my day easy....which really, is what you really need on your wedding day. I agree with the comment below...DREAM TEAM. My experience with TEAM started with a trial with Mar. Everyone knows that the most awkward part about getting hair/makeup done is having to give feedback if you don't like something....with Mar, she encourages your feedback (positive or negative) and makes you comfortable to do so. She also spends time with you to make sure everything is how you desire it before you leave. I knew after the trial that I had to have her there on my wedding day. Her energy onsite on the wedding day and before my rehearsal dinner was EXACTLY what I needed. She kept me calm and focused, was on time, and my family/friends enjoyed having her there (did I mention she is hilarious?). In addition to Mar - Carlie, Christy, Karina and Sasha were onsite handling the moms, sisters, aunts, bridesmaids, etc. Whether the person was 16 or 70, they could do it all and made everyone look gorgeous. They were all kind, incredibly professional, and SO easy to work with. The day was PACKED with appointments and they never skipped a beat. Let's just say these guys are the "Dream Team" of Hair and Makeup. The level of professionalism, efficiency and talent is above and beyond any expectation. Mar is so much more than your makeup artist- she becomes your right hand, coach, best friend and safety net- you name it she's it. She's basically everything. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through the day without her. She kept me calm and reminded me to breathe. As for the hair and makeup, wow! Incredible is an understatement. My hair and makeup held for literally 12 hours. My mother, mother in law, and couple of best friends also had their hair and makeup done which looked absolutely fantastic! My photos turned out incredible. It was the exact look I was going for- sophisticated bridal glam. I'm not a bride that's afraid of makeup and was not going for a natural bridal glow. I wanted smokey eyes, lashes and Mar and her team executed it flawlessly. I'm also obsessed with the Team hair extensions and cannot recommend them enough. They are excellent. They were so natural and felt so comfortable and secure throughout the entire day. It really enhanced the length of my hair and allowed the curls to last. I love them so much and plan to rock them at my next glam event. All in all Mar and her team were the easiest decision I made. You may think hair and make up isn't that big of deal and shouldn't cost that much. Trust me it is a big deal and worth every penny. I don't usually write reviews but I want to make sure everyone who is looking for bridal hair and makeup knows of Team Hair and Makeup. Mar and her team were amazing, fun, talented....they completely exceeded my expectations. I have never before felt or looked as beautiful as I did on my wedding day. Mar really listened to what my bridesmaids and I wanted to look like on that day and brought to life our vision of what we wanted (even exceeding what we expected). Not to mention, this was a destination wedding for me and Mar was so easy to work with from afar leading up to the wedding. The makeup is incredible-- tears, hours of pictures, dancing, kisses and hugs from guests and groom, and wind-- nothing ever came off. I didn't even need to touch up my lips. Same for hair.
