I can't speak more highly of Sifu Wade and his team. They've been nothing short of amazing in transforming my coming-out-of-quarantine son, who'd had no social interaction or formal instruction since he was three, into a confident, proud, and strong big kid. We decided to enroll him in karate a few months before he started kindergarten. Mostly to boost his confidence and self esteem. During the trial class, he was frozen in fear. He didn't speak, didn't answer Sifu Laura, didn't make eye contact and even rolled into a tighter ball when she asked if he could put his arms out. Sifu Wade saw and suggested another trial class. He was a bit better at the second trial. We stuck with it. Each class he was more open and confident. Almost exactly 10 months later, he just got his purple belt. If you have a shy kid, this is the place for them!! I never felt like he was forced out of his comfort zone. Rather, he was given the tools and atmosphere for him to do it by himself. read more

We love Team Martial Arts! As a parent I love that the curriculum is well thought out and age appropriate -- that's both the martial arts side and the mat chat topics they cover with the kids. The Sifus all have a different style and each of them are great with my son. I like that you can sign up for classes and comes on a day that works for you. That day and time can change week to week and you don't have to let them know in advance. This flexibility allows us to stay in Karate all year around regardless of what other sports we are playing that time of the year. I also love the weekly emails that keep us organized and informed on what the weekly lessons are. As a kid, my son loves the activities in class and outside of class. He love learning the lessons in the mat chats that translate to the physical lesson they are learning. He also loves the activities they sent home throughout the year like the Flat Sifus in summer, the coloring challenges at the holidays and the workout activities. Our 13yo daughter loves being a student at TMA. It makes me so happy to see her excited to go to class and bemoan when she has other activities that prevent her from taking the first class of the week. She practiced a different style of martial arts from ages 7-11, but a few factors caused her to move away from that school with no interest in finding another. Thanks to a school friend, our daughter tried out a few classes and immediately felt at home. As a parent I have observed Sifu Wade as knowledgeable, professional, engaging and personable. The class is a unique blend of teens through adult which, I think, is beneficial. Though everyone is in one class at different ranks/ages and studying the same principles, each student moves at their own pace and encouraged. The focus on personal development on and off the mat is fantastic. I can only compare what I know from our previous martial arts school experience and I have to say THIS studio and Sifu Wade are leaps and bounds over what we experienced previously. My daughter has been in karate since she was 3 years old (7 years old now). Karate has been a constant in her life and it's the one thing she takes VERY seriously. I have three kids at TMA and they love it. It's great exercise and good for physical development (I have one child that's a little delayed in that department, and she has improved so much since starting at TMA). I like that he will push the kids that need and want it and take it easy on those that aren't up for intense competitive training. The focus on discipline and personal ethics/behaviour is nice as well and involves parents, home, and school. Sifu Wade's assistants are the BEST. Our six year old son has been attending Taylor's Martial Arts for almost one year. We love the physical activity, but also that our son is responding to someone other than us. He values lessons he is taught, and those who instruct him. I love the fact that his karate class does not end when he walks out the door. He is always working toward goals and that we as parents are partners with the school in deciding if he has been working hard enough on his goals to move forward toward a new belt. Initially, there was a great deal of hands on instruction with Wade, but over the last 3-6 months, that has decreased. The other instructors are great, but my child in particular, needs quick redirection and prompting when doing something incorrectly, or he will continue to do so. That being said, when I brought up my concerns to Wade, he was quick to respond and has attempted to address these concerns. We are very pleased with our son's progress, the structure of the school, and look forward to our son continuing on at Taylor's Martial Arts. read more

My son visited several dojos and even did a few 'trial' programs. He finally chose this dojo because he felt welcomed, he was acknowledged in class, and he really liked the staff from the owner Wade down to the junior leaders. My wife and I enjoyed the location and the reasonable cost (everything, including belt testing/promotion is included in the monthly plan that you choose). We especially liked that the kids program was well-rounded...it taught martial arts, self-defense, life skills (responsibility, no bullying, confidence, etc...), and the staff quickly learned everyone's name (son was called by name in his second class) and focus on their individual needs. In the 'older' classes, kids and teens were taught the skills needed for advancement while still challenging them on and off the mat. Some fun family activities have been planned outside of the dojo. That was TWO YEARS ago, and to this day, we are still with this dojo. Chief Wade, and the senior staff of Joseph, Rachel, Ethan, and Hannah and all the instructors, leaders, and junior leaders continue to make this place a fun and challenging place to learn martial arts. read more
