Terrible business ethics! Advertised a free 6 week challenge and of course when I get there they are asking for money. I paid and was advised to cancel by email at any time. I cancel via email and they still charge my account. At that point I advised my bank not to honor anymore payments from them. They continue to try and charge my account and then contact me saying I am two months past due. I forwarded them the email and the lady says she will get it cleared up for me. But of course she did not. Instead i get an email saying her supervisor would not allow it and I could clear up the balance that day. Unbelievable! read more

I just moved here a few months ago and this gym is conveniently right down the road from my apartment, so after reading all these awesome reviews, I was excited to sign up for the free trial and try out some classes and meet new people. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I did the kickboxing class last Saturday morning. I expected a more hospitable/friendly environment, but I didn't feel very welcome. The guy at the front desk was nice. The instructor of the kickboxing class didn't say a lot, kind of just expected everyone to know what to do. So that left me confused a few times. He also seemed kind of annoyed if someone didn't do one of the moves right. It was an awesome cardio workout, though. I usually workout/run a few days out of the week, and this class definitely pushed me. After the kickboxing class I decided I wanted to learn more about technique so I signed up for the Muay Thai class this evening. I was left disappointed again. It was me, 3 guys (who I'm guessing are regulars) and the instructor. I felt like an inconvenience the entire time.. Like I was infringing on their class. I mainly stayed in the corner practicing the basics the whole time while everyone else did their thing. The instructor asked one guy to go help me and he said something like "ughhhh do I have to" It sucks. I was really hoping I would like this gym because of how convenient the location is, but it looks like I'm going to be looking else where. read more

I purchased an unlimited kickboxing Groupon with Team Octopus and after only a week decided to take the plunge and buy a membership. It's a great gym the coaches are knowledgeable, creative, and intense. It's a a great gym for an early morning intense workout.1. You will feel energized and pumped up once you eal through the door(lighting, music, overall decor of the gym). 2. I LOVE TEAM OCTOPUS!! I've tried many gyms, boot camps, etc- you name it! I've always found good things about each of them BUT nothing like I've experienced at Team Octopus! I started off with a group on to attend the kickboxing class and have gone pretty much everyday since then! NOW- i am hooked and getting a membership to go 3x/week- maybe even unlimited! Sadly, I found out about this gym way too late. I have only gone to this gym for 4 months before relocating to a new city. Here are the positives: Staff: Very friendly and passionate. They are more than willing to help out with any techniques you are struggling with, and they want to push you to your limits. Price: Can be a bit pricey relative to a normal gym membership, but I believe it's worth the price. Facility: Big and well maintained - the gym is populated with many punching bags, a boxing ring, and mats for you to practice jiu jitsu. Also, the (male) locker room and restroom is clean and well maintained. Classes: I highly recommend their kickboxing classes with Mark, Joe or Ali teaching them. It is a great combination of strength, cardio and flexibility training. They also offer Muay Thai, Boxing, and Jiu Jitsu which have been fun classes to take. Overall, I believe it is worth trying a free week trial for yourself! read more

Team Octopus is the best! I started going to kickboxing at Team Octopus through ClassPass for about 6 months before I decided to join as a full time member. I go 5-6 times a week, and it's always a challenge - I can feel myself getting stronger with each class. Mark, Joe, and Cathryn are all super talented instructors and all bring their own flavor to their classes to give a nice variety in workouts. Everyone is super friendly here, and I highly recommend trying Team Octopus out if you're looking for a challenging and results-oriented workout. read more

This is a highly technical Beginner Brazilian Jiu-jitsu class. Beginner includes students with up to a few years of experience, fyi. They let you borrow a gi your first time. After the warm-up we separate into groups for focused skill training. I am intrigued by the discipline, it's physically challenging but it's also a mental game. The staff was super welcoming and friendly, I can tell that they are very passionate about it. The facility is a serious training center, it smells like sweat and work and bodies. I would rate the center and staff a 5 star, but the instructor who was working with us I would rate a 3 star. There was an uneven number of us in the group, and I got left out for a significant portion of class. He didn't seem to know how to deal with brand new students, because he launched into a lengthy and technical sequence that was far to much to digest for people with no experience, instead of breaking the skills into bite size chunks and giving us a chance to build progressively. Maybe it was just an off day for him. I would definitely try another class because I think I would really like the training. read more

After visiting the Saturday CrossFit intro class, my wife and I enjoyed it so much we took advantage of the following free week of classes. During the intro class the instructor walked us through stretching our arms, back and then proper form for doing squat press weight lifting. The class was finished by doing a W.O.D. I really like this place! It's a great workout that changes slightly each time you go. It motivates me to work out and I hate working out. I bought a Groupon to try out the kickboxing classes. I really enjoy the high intensity workouts. I don't usually focus on my arms so the classes really help me build upper body strength. The class has an easy to follow format and new comers are guided by the instructor to execute combinations properly. I decided to continue classes and purchase a 12 month kickboxing membership. Unfortunately I experienced terrible customer service. I moved 20 miles away from Team Octopus approximately 4 months into my one year membership, I called twice to inquire about canceling my membership but was told I could not and that I could NOT pay an early termination fee. Now, at the end of my membership, I find out I could have paid an early termination fee to save me roughly $300. Terrible customer service. Attempted to resolve with Octopus and they were not helpful at all. read more

Over the years I've trained at 6 different martial arts/mma gyms, from here to Seattle. Saraiva MMA is by far the most fun and comfortable gym I've been to. The instructors are knowledgeable, hands on, and treat you like family from the moment you first walk in the door. I've trained at many gyms that were friendly, many that are professional, and even ones that were run by ufc veterans, but I've never felt as welcomed as I have at Saraiva. If you're interested in getting in shape, mma, or martial arts in general I would highly recommend checking this place out. read more

Great gym! So glad I found their groupon! I go to the evening boxing classes and have been to classes run by both coaches (Eric and Elgin). Both coaches offer a great workout with insightful technical guidance. Having previous boxing experience is NOT necessary as they will work with your level and pair you with people either on the same level or with enough experience to help guide you through the different drills. I haven't taken the other classes, but I have worked out at other MMA gyms and have taken classes at other gyms. From what I've seen the nightly cardio kickboxing class is KILLER. It looks less technical (than if you took Muay Thai, which they also offer) but the workout is no joke. The coaches are very creative and I'm regularly impressed with what I see. They also offer BJJ, Muay Thai (as mentioned above), Crossfit, and children's classes. I love that the gym is always very clean and really well organized. They continue to look for ways to improve the gym and have done so by adding cubbies, very, very large ceiling fans, sectioning walls, etc. The staff and every gym goer I've met have been friendly and helpful. They have locker rooms with showers, stall, and lockers (obvs). There are ample lockers, but I find them kind of small. I have to really shove my under armor gym bag into the locker to get it to fit. Otherwise, the only other thing I don't love is that there is no Saturday boxing class. It would work really well for my schedule if there were one. Anyhow, I highly recommend coming here and trying it out. Check groupon for a deal so you can try it before you commit, but I guarantee if you commit you'll be very happy (and sweaty). Other things to note: you'll check in with their app so no extra card on your key chain! Yay! read more

I got the Groupon. Great way to get people in here!! You get to do unlimited classes for a month and then see if you want to start a membership. They got me! This place is absolutely wonderful. I live in Congers, but I add the extra commute from work downtown to make sure I come here to get my workout in. The kick boxing gives you an awesome bang for your "buck" (hour of your time). The hour includes about 3 different sets of workouts, full body. I've never been challenged this much in 1 hour. It's amazing. Feels like personal training but at an affordable cost. I've only been taking Muay Thai classes but I like the flow here. We usually warm up for 10 minutes then practice punches or kicks with a partner; repetition/practice makes perfect I guess. They have less sparing then expected but it's hard to expect everyone to have mouth guards or casually spar and only hit below the neck. One thing I'd love would be more a/c or airflow in the summer and one morning Muay Thai class. read more

Great martial arts gym. I started coming to Team Octopus when I left a similar competing gym in the area. I purchased the Groupon back in February and became a member in March. I have only been attending the kickboxing classes during my time here. The staff are very friendly and the facility is kept clean. Most instructors will take the time to try and help new visitors with techniques and combinations. I have noticed that they treat everyone as a valued member of the gym. The memebership contract allows you to pause your membership if you need to go out of town for an extended period of time and you can upgrade or downgrade the package when you want to. The gym also uses optional heart rate monitors where you can see your heart rate and calories burt in real time on a monitor while you workout. These monitors are expensive but were were offered free with a membership. It's fun to keep track of your progress and can compare to other members of the gym. The only downsides are that the gym doesnt have any traditional gym equipment such as treadmills, stationary bikes, weights, etc. This would be a plus especially for the amount members pay monthly which is higher than local competitors. Also, there isn't a 5pm kickboxing class on Fridays which would be convenient for me and they do privide this class every other weekday. Overall it is an excellent gym and I would recommend it to anyone. read more

Definitely recommend Team Octopus! After trying out the gym for a month (thank you Groupon) I have officially signed up for a year long membership. If you're looking for a challenging and dynamic workout that even an overweight, out of shape girl who hates exercise like me can do, I highly recommend their kick boxing classes. I'd been looking for a workout routine that would finally change my opinion about exercise, and I think this could be the one. I never leave a class without dripping in sweat, and even as I write this I can feel my muscles getting sore from the class I took earlier today. The facilities are clean, there's a locker room on site, there are several class time options throughout the day, and the coaches are really good at what they do. Don't be afraid to ask questions, because no one is really going to introduce themselves or hold your hand. Be brave and dive in, and they'll give you answers and offer you advice on how to improve your form. Even more than that, the other people in the classes are really friendly and encouraging! You do have to sign up for a year long membership, but the class prices average out to be really reasonable. And what better way to stay motivated than to sign a contract that keeps you coming back for a year? (Or at least that's what I'm telling myself!) Buy the Groupon and give it a shot! read more

A friend got me to sign up on groupon and try kickboxing out with her. Like her, I normally stick to running and yoga, although an old running injury and lack of prioritizing time had been keeping me away from working out at all. But I'm always complaining that I have no upper body strength, and I was starting to feel way too stressed and lethargic, so I thought I'd give kickboxing a try. I usually don't like gyms, agression, yada yada, so I was a little nervous and didn't know what to expect. However the name of the gym, groupon, and a sense of "I'll try anything once" piqued my interest enough. The website also was helpful, but sounded almost too good to be true, (i.e. no pressure for everyone to be a super athlete, supportive staff, whaa?) I've now taken 5 classes in the past 2.5 weeks, had 2 different instructors, and have actually gotten a membership. I've tried classes at 6am and 7pm on weekdays, 10am on weekends. Sometimes it's crowded, but I think that adds to the fun. There are so many people at different points in their fitness journey, and seriously all the coaches and patrons are so incredibly chill and supportive. My coaches have been Mark 4 times and then Cat this morning. Every time I go the routine is switched up enough so I can tell it will never get boring. This morning Cat was so helpful in showing me how to improve here and there. And the couple of times I've gone and it's been super crowded, Mark still does a great job monitoring everyone and helping first timers. Both of them are SO motivating and fun! Someone in another review wondered if they clean the mats..well I've gotten there way too early before in the mornings, and yep the mats were definitely being cleaned. So no worries there. Clean locker area and restrooms. Great music that gets you pumped. Did I mention that kickboxing is addicting? For stress relief, to get a sense of power, to be able to actually feel a little bit stronger each time you go, it's a total rush. The entire staff are just delightful people. No pressure to join. The facilities here are top notch. Very clean and we'll maintained. All of the staff are super nice and very helpful. The classes are well run and coaches all seem like they are really there to help without judging. You can find less expensive places to train, but the quality of instruction and flexibility are here. I've been wanting to try boxing and kick boxing for a long time. I hate Work-out classes so I was hesitant on going. Did a free week trial which is GREAT that they offer that and I loved it. I try to work out everyday for at least an hour and after the kick boxing class I felt great! Instructors are very welcoming. I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. Nice big gym. Friendly people. The membership is the same as my lifetime diamond membership so I have to decide which one I like better but this place is a must! read more
