Man, am I so glad there's a boba place in Alvin finally! It may not be perfect, but I think there's lots of room to improve so that this place becomes an Alvin staple. I've been here 4 or 5 times now and had items including smoothies, slushes, milk teas, and regular teas, and while they're all tasty, my lort they are teeth rottingly sweet. There's no option to request less sweetness like most boba places have these days, because whatever powders or flavoring they use is already sweetened. The only thing they've said they could do is add more water, but then you lose the flavor of the beverage. Still, I enjoy their teas after a workout, and getting one of the more decadent things is a nice treat once in a while. The shop is clean and sleek looking, and the staff has always been friendly. The only down side is that if there's more than a single person in the store, service is terribly slow. I've waited more than 10min to get my drink before when there was a small group of 3-4 folks who had ordered before me. Today was the fastest service I've ever had and it was still about a 5min wait for a regular tea that just needed to be shook/stirred up. The other downside, in my opinion, is the lack of veggie/vegan options on their food menu. I would LOVE to try their banh mis and spring rolls, but it's like there's some law in Alvin that says no one can serve anything with tofu. I ask for tofu every time I'm there, in hopes they'll finally add it, but I'm sure I'll be waiting quite a while. Overall, I like this place, and since they've cornered the market here in Alvin, I'll keep going back. I'll also keep hoping they adjust the way they make things so they can be ordered at different sweetness levels and asking for tofu banh mis and spring rolls, too. Bonus tip: They accept call ahead orders. I haven't done this yet because I'm not entirely 'fluent' in their offerings, but once you figure out what you like, this is almost certainly the best way to avoid an interminable wait. PSA: The entrance/stairs to this place aren't super handicap friendly. They do have a ramp on the far side of the parking lot, but it's still quite a bit of a walk to still get into the shop if you can make it up the ramp.

Cute new boba place! They have lots of interesting teas you don't always find, which is nice. My jasmine tea was a bit over brewed, but it wasn't too bitter. All the teas are sweetened. The boba is good! It's not over or under cooked :) they also have a mini fridge of some sodas for $1 and some chip bags and trail mix. I do wish they had more variety of bobas and jellies though.

I was immediately greeted when I walked in but was still able to take my time on what I decided to order without feeling rushed. Juice It Up has dozens of smoothies, açaí bowls and fresh squeezed juices to choose from. I order a small of the Lava Flow ( banana, strawberries, pineapple, coconut and "exotic juice blend" which honestly is probably their secret ingredient because it taste that good). I was hesitant to pick a smoothie with yogurt as I usually don't like it in my drinks but it blended so well! The drink was delicious and I genuinely wished I would've went with a bigger size and not the small. They also have several additions you can add onto smoothies like protein (which I did) or extra calcium or ginseng). This is an awesome establishment that I would definitely recommend.

They even sell bulk items such as nuts, flour, nutritional yeast, dried fruit, natural detergent, oils, loose-leaf teas, etc. Some are made in-house, including vegan hot chocolate mix. I like getting my seasonings and spices here, opposed to the grocery store, because it is very fresh and hasn't been sitting out for years upon years on end. There aren't a lot of raw vegan restaurants down south of 45, but surprise, surprise, Natural Living has raw vegan onsite. I've only eaten there twice, and due to the limited hours throughout the week. I am only able to get down here on the weekends in the morning. I frequent Nokturne more as a vegan restaurant in CL, just due to the simple fact of the flexibility of hours. At Natural Living, I ordered the taco salad; it was vegan meat crumbles and veggies. There were more veggies than meat. A limited amount of dressing to lather the veggies, so it made the salad a bit dry, but tasty. I loved the peanut butter cookies on sale. They were my favorite. I love that they have a food fair program for organic fruits/vegetables from local gardeners. I'm not a big fan of organic anything as I feel that it is more of a marketing gimmick, but if others care about that, that's a perk. The program is very affordable. I've personally never tried it, but I always wanted to. The ambiance can be a bit off; the staff is sometimes nice, sometimes don't want to be bothered. The apothecary side of things system is just grab jars of what you want, and they weigh it, put it in baggies, and you pay for it. However, things can get complicated when there a multiple people on the apothecary side and there is nowhere to wait since the whole building is tight and small. Now the pricing; this establishment isn't the cheapest, but when you factor in the value of what you are purchasing with the quantity of goods, then you are getting a solid deal. They sell crystal jewelry, and parking is across the street. I always tell people I'm going to the apothecary, and when they Google it, they can't find it, so it is definitely a hidden gem. I would have given them 5 stars across the board, but with the very limited hours not good for the working class working between 8 am - 5 pm; they close at 6 pm, closed on Sundays and Mondays. I hate that, but I will continue to only come on Saturdays.

Overall, Ice Valley Smoothies falls short in most categories. The decor is minimal, with bright colors freshly painted on the walls with nothing but a logo and a menu hanging on them. The interior doesn't really look like they finished it when they renovated. There is no television on the wall nor is there a radio or music playing. This makes for an eerily quiet setting, almost uncomfortable. A TV would go a long way. They have a lot of pretty fruit facing the mall corridor but what they use in the drinks is in plastic tubs sitting behind glass inside next to the register sort of the way Subway displays their veggies and meats behind glass. The fruit all looks pretty drab, especially toward the end of the day. I'd go around lunch for the freshest fruit. Don't let the "Smoothie" in the name of the business confuse you. Virtually every item on their menu except the fresh juices seems to be made with Bubble Tea powder and water. Whether they're calling it a smoothie or actually using the term Bubble Tea, the powders all come from the same tubs, the only difference seems to be that they dump a few chunks of fruit into the blender on the ones they call "Smoothie". They'll put protein in your "Smoothie" if requested (extra charge) but the sugar content of the bubble tea powder makes this not a very healthy option for health-conscious customers. I haven't tried the "milkshake" nor have I tried their fresh juices. A word of warning for folks heading here after a workout: they have no nutritional information available for anything that they make. With the exception of the whey protein, the powders are all dumped into tubs and aren't in the original containers, so there's no way of knowing what's in the drinks even if you wanted to go that route. Their equipment is very nice and appears to be new. They have two very nice Vita-mix blenders so their "smoothies" are well blended. They also have the automatic cup sealing machine so your drinks won't leak which is a nice touch, but the jar of whey protein sitting on top of the sealer is a bit distracting. There is a juicer present in the back that looks like a fairly nice unit and I'd imagine they could make some decent juices. The Bubble Tea is okay, but it's just the standard powder with water and Coffee Mate added. I don't think any of them have actual brewed tea in them. The tapioca pearls are very plain, not sweet, lacking any texture, as though it was sitting in the boil water for a long time. The jellies and other sinkers are standard-issue and nothing special. The best bubble tea houses add their own special touch to their drinks. These guys seem content to follow the directions on the box. That's fine, but it fails to stand out. Everything is prepared with the server's back turned. They prefer that you have a seat and look away while they prepare your drink. The guy who works there is nice enough, but I am very put off by the way he emphatically suggests I sit down immediately after ordering. After the first time I visited, I figured he would realize I like to watch, but the suggestion to sit persists after three visits. Compared to any Bubble Tea place you'd find in Houston, this place doesn't cut it at all. For Lake Jackson, it gets an extra point, but it's still not very good. To try to sell Bubble Tea in Lake Jackson, you'd really need to hit a home run and this place doesn't measure up on any level. As a smoothie place for a health conscious customer, it's not really an option for the reasons already stated. I've been there three times at this point and I'll probably not be going back.
