Is it weird to miss your caterer after your wedding? Ruth and Teatime Catering was a preferred vendor for our venue, St Francis Hall. Back in Fall 2019, when I first planned our March 2022 (COVID made us move it many times), I remember choosing Ruth because she knew our venue so well. I had a vision to not have a seated dinner and instead have open food stations, and make it sort of an all-night party. She was the ONLY caterer to push back on some of my ideas and tell me the truth about how it could work. Other companies were saying yes to everything I asked, and never even suggested anything to help us save $$. Hiring Teatime was a no-brainer in that respect. She wanted the wedding to be what I wanted, but she also wanted to make sure it was a reasonable day of work for her (AWESOME) team and that it would be an enjoyable experience for our guests. But then BOOM, pandemic hit. Ruth was patient with me each time I made the tough decision to move our wedding date. Countless scheduling emails back and forth and suddenly we were two months out and I was sitting across from her and my planner at our venue walk through. In that meeting she remembered EVERYTHING I asked for back in Fall 2019! She remembered the cake I picked, even though I hadn't! (Ruth gifts a cake to all her wedding couples, quite literally the most thoughtful thing to give a couple!) Your caterer really runs the whole show at your wedding, their staff does all the work turning basically an empty room into a wedding venue. I can't tell you how at ease Ruth put me, I knew she knew what she was doing and that she would bring it all together. So then our wedding day comes... and in the morning, there is an unexpected snowstorm. I had a moment of panic, but then I remembered I have Ruth, and just knew her team would pull through. Yes, they drove through a SNOWSTORM and showed up with SMILES ready to rock it. I remember right before the ceremony seeing Ruth on the side and we both looked at each other like 'are you kidding us! A snowstorm too! but we're here!!!' - felt like a communal moment of victory. Later that night I saw her and hugged her (there is a blurry photo of the moment) and felt like because of her I got to have the wedding I wanted. Like I said, is it weird to miss your caterer?? Yes, the bartenders were amazing, drinks were flowing, food was DELICOUS, but nothing compares to the dedication Ruth brought to this entire, almost three-year process. Ruth's catering was excellent long before the wedding and reception. She sat down and talked to us about what she could provide, let us taste the food from the beginning, and worked with us. Her pricing was the best we'd seen and we liked her frank attitude. Before the wedding, Ruth and her staff were efficient and professional in setting everything up. Everything went off perfectly and our guests cannot stop raving about what a great time they had. The food was excellent, the cake beautiful, and the staff responded to all manner of requests quickly. Oh, and let's not forget the mini crab cakes... they were awesome! Ruth and her impeccable crew of 8 made my daughter and her new hubbies' reception shine! She was adaptable, flexible, and always had great ideas from the get-go. We had a multi-cultural wedding and Ruth was willing to use "old abuelita's" family recipes to give our day a hint of Guatemalan roots--this meant being willing to test recipes she had not used before and then adapting it for a party of 140. She also bent over backwards to provide gluten free and nut-free alternatives for guests--and alleviate our concerns about wedding day set-up. Her coordination with our other vendors was seamless with a willingness to chip in where needed. Her crew continued this service through out our long wedding reception--attentive to details, cleaning up without being obvious, doling out food and drinks, and courteous to everyone! And the CAKE! It was GORGEOUS and DELICIOUS!!! Also, lots of compliments about the hour d' vors, exotic fruit plate, buffet and signature drinks! When we first reached out to Ruth MacBean (Owner) to inquire about a price quote with Teatime Delicacies for our wedding reception we expressed that we had a limited budget, and would need recommendations on ways to keep our catering prices low for a wedding size of around 85 people. Ruth was extremely helpful in ideas to make our wedding reception an affordable one, and her advice didn't end at just what her company would provide. We ended up doing a buffet dinner, picking dinner items that would keep food costs to around $25 per person (doesn't include rentals or staff costs), used plastic vs. glass cups for the bar, buying colorful ribbon to tie around napkins vs. renting more expensive colored tablecloths, only providing beer and wine to our guests, and of course the bonus of having a FREE wedding cake. Ruth is really the key to this company being such a success. She is very organized, detail-oriented, experienced, quick to respond, and most of all just an all-around friendly person. We ended up meeting with Ruth on three occasions which all took place in her home. And I think I may have emailed Ruth every-other week with additional questions or random advice on various details for the wedding. Each time she would normally get back to me within the hour! She was to say the least a "god send" and really made us feel comfortable and that we were getting amazing service for a GREAT PRICE. She also had provided catering at our venue before so she let us know what kind of food could or could not be served with the venue's limited kitchen set-up (i.e. no ovens). She even put us in contact with a local Cake Shop Owner who made us custom chocolate flowers which were completely edible, BEAUTIFUL, and delicious! Note that the shop owner doesn't make these beautiful custom flowers for anyone, but since Ruth has a great relationship with her she called in a favor. :) As for the day of the Wedding Reception everything went off without a hitch, and I believe it was her cousin (forgotten her name now) who was the Event Manager for the day of. Ruth knows how to maintain an awesome staff, because even though she wasn't there everything ran smoothly. Just as she promised she had her Manager come and find the Bridal Party as soon as we got in the door, after having taken pictures at our church. We were all starving and soo happy to see a tray of Hors d'oeuvres just for us! Although my husband and I tried our best to make ourselves eat dinner at the reception, we failed to get to our plates before the meat had been out too long. But no reason for disappointment because Ruth's staff thought ahead and had some leftovers stored in the fridge that they packed up for us! We were able to have Appetizers, Dinner, and Dessert in our hotel room when all the sudden we were starving. All and all we had an amazing experience with Teatime Delicacies. If you're currently researching caterers for your Wedding you need to get in contact with Ruth. You're not going to find anything better than this company for the price and level of service in the DC area. Regretfully hired Teatime Delicacies for a wedding reception and outside of the cake so disappointed in the food and beverage presentation, flavor, and service. Cheap buffet and bar equipment. Buffet table poorly arranged, undecorated, unprofessional. (e.g. pineapple skins and seedy grapes). Staff in dingy white with old looking bib aprons. Both food and beverage insufficient quantity, obvious cutting corners in food quality, "cheap" keeps coming to mind. Food was cold even though everything on schedule. I was embarrassed. read more

Ruth is just the best of the best, no doubt. She was always polite and professional. She worked with me via email and phone well in advance of my small birthday event to help me determine the best flavor, design, and cake size, per my specific requirements. Even though I only ordered a cake, she made me feel my order was just as important to her as one of her brides who ordered a full three course catering service and cake! The outcome was better than I could have imagined! Ruth has unique skill and dedication to detail. She made the tastiest, moistest, most beautifully decorated, tiered, carrot cake for my sister's birthday. Everyone loved it the cake, especially the guest of honor.
