I've got three Apple machines, an old iMac, a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air, I'm not what I would call "power-user" but I'm an artist and I depend on my machine (s) for all my writing and photography and back-up digital portfolio. I can't say that I have been very happy with the kind of support I've been getting from APPLE and If I have to make one more stupid 15 minute appointment with some kid that calls himself the G word, I will scream. Face it, i Photo has a lot of problems with you are looking at multiple cameras, many memory chips and different computers, (unless I just get to be "special") you end up with an iPhoto mess, I watched 5,000, maybe 10,000, photos distort and become 29,000 then 58,000 photos, don't ask me how, I just work here.... Anyways too much, too much, and my air wouldn't even even reboot, and my Pro was making as much noise as a 747 taking off to Maui. Ahmet and his gang were open till seven, (thank god) and they allowed me to walk in the door, NO APPOINTMENT NECESSARY) This was right before Christmas. Anyways they worked with me for couple of hours ( ! ) to figure out what was going wrong, at no charge, gave my friend a chair, we figured out what the noise was, or at least quelled the roar, we got it boot up and then checked out the battery which was giving me the "its dead Jim" look. Apple said I would have to buy a new drive and new fan and new battery...... Anyways got the is puppy home, and the noise had stopped, we had gotten enough of the iphoto stuff cleaned up so I could keep going forward and lo and behold, the battery came back to life AND WAS HOLDING A CHARGE ! ! ! IT WAS A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE, I've gone back since, and they have always made me feel welcome, and no question is too stupid. Its worth the drive, its further away than Apple, but I don't have to deal with their insufferable genius [bar] and there is no hard core sales pitch or the line, "oh thats really old....." well, yeah, I am old, but I still work, and now, look who I've got to help me, in Redwood City, TechWorld Technoport, on Broadway, tell a friend.... read more

These guys are amazing! My father was a programmer and writer and died in march and his house had been wired and rewired three or four times with updated various networks. Well, now it is just my Grandma and my Aunt (both Elderly) and they are loaded to the rafters with interesting, useful and useless electronics equipment! They also have to get their computers that are still up conformed and fixed to their needs. It was five days of 20+ hr days sorting through and fixing computer components to finally get everything up. These guys were a lifesaver!! They took everything I threw at them, recycled what was useless and gave me fair value for the few objects that were worth money. Then, a great tech guy they have down there(Hispanic gentlemen, forgot his name, so sorry, he was kick-butt) helped me with my Gma's laptop. The hard drive was fried. He changed it out for a used one he had cheap!!!. He first called me and said he would have to change it out and I went, oh no, here it comes, $200-$400. $25 for 160gb. Installed with $75 first time inspect fee. They gave me $95 in trade. $5 is all I paid out of pocket to get everything out of my Grandma's house and storage and get her and the other two computers in the house working perfectly!!! Geek Squad would have made me take out a 2nd on the house for all that work!!!! These guys are friendly, reliable(tech even stayed late first night to fix it that night 'cause he knew I was going to L.A. in 2 days!) and if they don't fix it, have it, or know where to get it, it probably doesn't exist!!! Call them for any problem you ever have. I know you guys live in the heart of computerland but occasionally, one of us laypeople wander in and need a little help and these guys are more than a little helpful! I got my phone fixed here. Seriously amazing customer service. My lovely iPhone 6s Plus LCD was originally shattered a couple of weeks ago and I got it fixed at another shop. Charged me 200 dollars (ugh but whatever). A couple days later, my phone screen started malfunctioning. I called the other group but they were pretty unresponsive and as the other place was in another town, there was not much I could do. These guys helped so much! Everybody here was so nice. First they told me to go to apple as it would be less expensive. (SO HONEST!! Blew my mind). When they realized I couldn't (Apple doesn't touch iPhones fixed by 3rd parties), they diagnosed my phone for free and told me exactly what was wrong with it. Not only that, they walked me through and exhausted every possible step to help me save the most money as possible. In the end, my LCD screen was broken so I had to get it fixed for full price there. Though my Toshiba laptop had a virus that various virus programs (Mac Afee etc.) were not cleaning. Started experiencing problems and went to restore. Sure enough, it restored to before the new malware and antivirus was installed. Took it to TechWorld just a few weeks ago. This is my third time. They felt reinstalling the operating system would resolve my issues, and I had already been researching doing that. The laptop had VISTA (I know!), so had the operating system updated to windows 7. They put on a new antivirus and installed my old 2002 office software. Lol. I don't need much, just a spreadsheet & Word program. It's not a computer we use much. Thought price and repair time was very reasonable. The owner is a great guy, and I feel I get a straight story from him. They have a new employee who sat down with me during the diagnostics. We had some communication issues. Probably due to he is a young kid and I am older. But the owner was there (he's always been there when I went) and he immediately clarified for both of us. Now I am taking my iMac to them as it fell off a table. This I use extensively. I have it backed up. Crossing my fingers. I just had a Mac G5 die in a rather strange and intermittent way. If it could be fixed for a reasonable price, I was willing to do so. I picked this place because of its excellent reviews, and it was just as advertised. Ahmet backed up my data for a very reasonable fee and then called a few days later to tell me that the G5 was fixed. It seemed to work well when I picked it up, but when I returned to my office, it was dead again. I called Ahmet who told me to bring it back in (first repair had cost $150.00.) Their Mac tech spent several days working with it and about 10 days later concluded that it needed a new motherboard, which would have cost much more than the computer was worth. I offered it to Ahmet for parts, but he told me that they had taken the RAM and hard disk out of my G5 and installed it into another similar G5 that worked well...and offered this computer to me for no additional charge. My "new" G5 is now working great and has all my old data in it as my hard drive was salvaged. I recommend this shop highly. These guys are nice, smart, and take the time to explain your problems and options. They are practical and will tell you when your equipment is toast and when it is worth fixing. I'm writing this review feeling fairly euphoric now that my beloved MacBook Pro is safely back into my arms after it spent some days in the very capable hands of Ahmet. Just like a real baby, it's always hard to let them go, but if they're with someone trustworthy, you can rest a little easier. Last week, my laptop began to make some very uncharacteristic and horrible noises, which my smart cookie boyfriend diagnosed as being a busted fan. I quickly logged onto Yelp and looked around for an affordable, trusted, and fairly local Mac repair expert. I own several older Apple G5 computers which are used in a recording studio that works with local acts and major labels. I walked in looking for memory cards for a replacement dual 2.5Ghz G5 computer that will run expensive DSP PCI cards, and the owner suggested that I bring it in, so the memory cards can be tested before I purchased them. I went to the studio, got the computer, drove back to TechWorld, and the owner went through a lot of trouble to find some high quality Corsairs. Upon starting up the computer, the owner noticed a fan was missing from one of the cooling zones...something I missed. He found a good working fan, and while installing it, he noticed the memory already installed were in the wrong order, so he corrected that too. We also initialized a brand new hard drive my intern had installed earlier that day. Techworld helped prevent what could have led to a serious computer failure, especially with the missing fan. What I do I know is I f*cking hate computer IT types, mainly the "I know everything and you know nothing" attitudes, they seem to get off on the power they have over you. Not at Techworld. They give you the options, what you need to do, what you should do, etc, and they work with you and your budget. They helped with my laptop, but they can also set up your home theater, come to your place and fix your computer, among other things, and I will definitely be back to take them up on this. I had an issue with my iPhone not charging properly and came into Techloop thinking it might need a repair. The technician was extremely friendly and welcoming, and he immediately took a look at my phone. He clearly explained what was happening -- that the charging port had just collected some lint -- and reassured me it was a minor issue. In less than two minutes, he cleaned out the port, and my phone was charging perfectly again. To my surprise, he even said there was no charge since the fix was so minor. Had a laptop with a touchpad which began to behave erratically. After updating drivers, checking setttings, refreshing BIOS just could not get it to work well. Against my religion... (I am an engineer) I decided as a last resort to take it to TechLoop on Santa Cruz. Hector took a look, played with it for a while and then concluded that it was a hardware problem and the touchpad itself was faulty!!! He ordered a new one on the spot and said it woud be delivered with 5 days (which it did, and Hector let me know as soon as it arrived). I love this place! I tried replacing my cracked macbook screen myself but ended up seeking professional help after getting 2 stripped screws stuck in my battery bay. I decided to go with Techworld Trading as they gave me the most reasonable quote without all the extras other places were going to charge me (i.e. the apple store said it would cost $70 JUST to get the stripped screws out). I got my repaired computer back way quicker than I had expected and the guy also did some extra techy stuff that I don't understand (cleaning up some drive or something) and now my macbook is running noticeably smoother. I stopped by TechWorld today with my Dell laptop with which I have been having problems with new RAM chips. The tech support I use unfortunately were not able to help me or give me an answer as to what was the problem. Jose Toledo greeted me and took a look. It took him about 15 minutes but was able to tell me the problem. Helped get it up and running better. I need a new mother board and he said he could fix it but by time I put the money into it for the mother board and labor I could get into another lap top with twice the speed. I truly appreciated his honesty and integrity. He did not charge me for his service today and I will be back to pick up a laptop. Looked like some great deals. read more
