Daniel and Jason are mostly helpful in saving my Big Agnes tent zippers, I almost resigned to purchasing a new tent for this 10+ years 100+ days well-loved Copper Spur but they gave it a new life. Thank you so much. Daniel also replaced a Thule ski/snowboard bag strap that was pretty beaten up from weekly use in Sapporo subway a few years back. It's still going strong! This place is amazing! I've heard about it from my Tahoe friends but unfortunately don't live anywhere close to there. I arranged to have two pairs of snowboard pants, one ski jacket and a tent dropped off for cleaning/repair. One of the pants was so stained I almost didn't send it. My old Marmot Pulsar rain pants had a lot of peeling seam tape. After contacting a few reputable repair services I settled on TEC because of prompt, personal communication, price, and reviews (though I treat the latter with a 'grain of salt'). They did not disappoint my expectations. The garment was cleaned, treated with DWR, old tape removed when necessary, and much re-taping done. Although I won't wear the pants backpacking until fall-winter cold rain and snow, I expect them to not be a sieve for water. Give Daniel and Andrea's business serious consideration. read more

Cannot recommend enough. This place cleans and repairs all kind of outdoor gear - don't throw it away, get it fixed! My partner's snowboard bag got a big tear on our flight to Tahoe and he needed it fixed to get home. They turned around the repair in a few hours while we ate lunch and shopped in Historic Truckee (for an extra $20). And they fixed every little tear in the bag, plus the broken handle! All he had asked for was the biggest one to be patched but instead he has a good-as-new bag! read more

My husband and I sent our down sleeping bags to be cleaned and they did an incredible job! I swear, my sleeping bag has way more loft now than when I first bought it. It was a little pricey, but so worth it. I've tried to wash down sleeping bags in the past, and they never seem to end up getting clean, plus they take forever to dry. (Four stars, not updating?) Highly recommended for coat and outerwear cleaning. Recommended for technical equipment cleaning with some caveats. I brought in a very dirty Dana Designs pack, and while the cleaning on the outside was quite impressive, the inside left a lot to be desired. After several less than pleasant interactions both with the initial employee and then the owner (in reaction to my initial review) I brought the pack back in and the owner described why the urethane was shedding, apologized that not enough had been done to clean that and other parts of the interior, and took the bag back in with much better results the second time around. I can only recommend cleaning outside of outerwear if you're very specific with what needs to be cleaned AND the owner is there ar pickup so you don't get the same sarcastic and bordering rude reaction to my issues from the employee I dealt with. read more

I had been cleaning my 3 Marmot ski jackets at the end of each season at home with a detergent supposedly designed for synthetic sports fabrics, but some areas were just not cleaning up well. I decided this year to bring them in to Technical Equipment Cleaners. One was even bloody from a fall. I'm happy to say TEC successfully cleaned and treated all 3 jackets. I think it was a good investment considering the price of new equipment. If you want your favorite ski apparel to last, it looks like TEC is the place to go in the Tahoe area. a quick added note.... we took our favorite North Face Tent to TEC for zipper repair. both entrance zippers were shot; the zips would not slide, the entrances were gaping holes. naturally, the tent was useless as it was and we considered buying a new tent, but this is a real favorite w/ more than a dozen years of camping history. I took in my favorite puffy down red jacket that had not been cleaned in three years, they got out all of the dirt that had been ground in the collar and around the cuffs of the sleeves. My jacket looked brand new when I picked it up. The customer service was very genuine and the gentleman took his time with me, I did not feel rushed. My favorite jacket is an older North Face extreme shell. It was so stained with food, coffee and sunscreen it became embarrassing to wear. I had tried to clean it myself with limited success. Of course they said no problem to clean and waterproof. When I picked it up I didn't recognize it as my own. Unbelievable that it came out so clean and almost looked new. The owners were very helpful and quite humorous. this year I'll have another jacket cleaned and also a couple of pants. Very reasonable pricing and turnaround. read more

I went there to get my sleeping bag cleaned and repaired. Instead, I was given the run-around of why my bag wasn't ready when promised. After weeks of waiting, and missing out on summer camping, I had to pay $65 to pick up a still dirty sleeping bag, with a shanty patch job. The owner is full of himself, and completely lacks people skills. I don't know what Marni is talking about. She must have talked to an employee and not the owner. read more

I want to recommend Technical Equipment Cleaners to anyone who needs difficult cleaning on outerwear. Like others, I've tried to clean my down jackets at home with a special detergent, but the results were, at best, disappointing. I sent a down jacket and a vest to Technical Equipment Cleaners and they came out as good as new! I should also point out that I live in San Francisco, so I mailed 3 jackets to them in Truckee and they Fed Ex'd them back to me. Speaking of the third jacket, I sent a Dale of Norway jacket to them that was really filthy. Dale of Norway sells tightly knit sweaters. Mine is pink and has white accents. Needless to say, the white accents were filthy and there were marks where I carried a knapsack. I had no idea how to even get this clean. I couldn't believe how good it looks now that TEC worked on it. I am so pleased that I will continue to use them from this point on. These folks are REALLY good and I can't recommend them enough! read more
