All of my dealings with Techway - Dothan have been positive, dating back to 2015. Most recently, I brought my motorhome in to replace existing steel wheels with Alcoa's, replace the step motor, replace the shore power plug, new windshield wiper blades, and a few other issues. As expected, I received the highest quality service from Dustin and the wonderful folks at this location. And to boot, they came in under the quoted price and the result is magnificent. I have been in the automobile business for over 39 years. I took my Mercedes Benz into Techway because it was making a lot of noise from one of the tires. I relayed this information to the service writer. I could tell he really wasn't listening to me which is nothing new when talking to a lot of service writers. Always remember this is how they get paid. So I called in the next day to ask had they found the problem. He was very hostile in giving me his answer. He was telling me I may need breaks and rooters.I told him I just put new breaks and rooters on it. In short he told me that I could come and get my car.I told him not to touch it I will be right there to pick it up. I took my car to Silver Star Mercedes Benz auto repair. I had picked up a huge rock in my wheel. They removed the rock and didn't charge me a dime. I will never take my car to Techway again. Yes they are over charging people or over diagnostics same thing. Either way they are taking your money. read more

I was having AC problems in my vehicle. Techway diagnosed it and I ended up instead of just buying a compressor the whole AC system to get a warranty for 36,000 miles for three years. They were finished quicker than they said they would which was great however I've been having some issues AC That it's not cooling down like it's supposed to I took it back in. They checked it says they recharged it less than a week later have the same problem have not been back yet to see what the issue is. I brought in my car for repair. It took over a day for them to figure out what was wrong with it! I brought my car to the dealership and they made the repair for$200 less than techway's estimate. Was not happy that they charge a 7% fee of the total bill for shop supplies. I'll never go back!!! read more

NOT A TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY they so over priced my repair and even raised it another thousand to $2600 most likely due to the fact that I am a single woman. They told me I needed a fuel pump which would cost $700 and since then I have found out that I can buy a fuel pump for $200. I would never take another vehicle to this place not only due to the exorbitant costs but the fact that they are not to be trusted in what they say, as you can read from the other reviews. I asked that the owner call me so that I could go over some of my concerns with the jump in price from $1500 to $2500+ when they had my vehicle for a week and knew exactly what needed to be done in the beginning and there was no need to increase it another thousand dollars. Took Rv in and 9 weeks later picked it up and only thing fixed was cab AC.everything that needed fixed they said they couldn't fiND the parts.i ordered the parts from Birmingham and had them in 2 day. These people never return a phone call and when you finally talk to someone they don't have any answers and say they will call you right back (bull crap). they tried to rip me off because I'm a woman. Story of my life. I wanted them to remove my distributor, which is bolted between the timing cover and water pump. they wanted to charge me $2400. I asked, "why are you charging me that?" the reply was , "well we gotta remove the water pump and that's an 8 hour job." Even if it was, "why are you charging me quadruple?" the reply was, "uh, there was a loose wire we found too." Outstanding service! While towing our 5th wheel camper from Montgomery back to Florida we stopped for fuel about 5 miles away and the truck would not start. After dropping the trailer and finally getting towed in just before 5 pm they were able to diagnose the issue and get the truck running temporarily, allowing me to reclaim the trailer and tow it back to their lot. They allowed us to spend the night there, and did the permanent repair first thing in the morning, finishing ahead of schedule and right at the estimate, getting us back ion the road. Warning if they mess up your vehicle they will never admit to it ! My son took his suv to get looked at so they sent a list with one being replace valve cover gaskets $569. They never said one was needed more than the other. He got belts changed and alignment $350. We go to pick it up on a Thursday and paid it. I asked about what replacing the valve cover gaskets was for and he said because they are "leaking oil". That we needed to get it fixed next. Not that they was all gone and it needed done now. Son drives home and it starts smoking ! They had left radiator cap off when they checked it and brownish fluid was everywhere. Called them and they towed it back and said they fixed it and replaced coolant. Son drives home and next day goes to work across the street and says it is making a bad noise. I told him don't drive it and we will take it back Monday. Try to drive it to them Monday and it breaks down completely. They tow it again and say the engine is locked up and it would need a whole new engine !! I said why and they said there was no oil in it at all. I'm guessing they left that off too when they checked it. Manager asked if we checked oil when they were the ones who were supposed to have. Before we took it to them my son checked it regularly and had it changed a couple months ago and it was never low or showed any signs of leaking. The manager said it wasn't their fault though because he told us it was leaking oil from gaskets. So all the sudden all the oil leaked out right when they had it but they didn't do it !! Just like the coolant that leaked all in the engine didn't mess it up or they couldn't have left the oil cap off. They will not repair it or give money back I paid to repair car even though it was never even really drivable after it left their shop. Oh and we would have to pay to tow it back to our house ! My son is so upset and devastated. It makes me so sick because I know they messed it up !!! Please never go here !!! read more

Took my class a motorhome to techway for overheating problem. They said needed thermostat and radiator flush. Paid them $760 and continued on to my Florida destination. Engine temp running high the entire trip. After unhooking our tow vehicle we were able to make it to Homosassa Fl. It took a while but i was able to find a qualified mobile mechanic. After five minutes he determined i had a bad water pump. He worked eight hours and replaced it on our class a motorhome. Charged me $600.00 I am running smooth and cool. Antifreeze was dirty with sludge, NOT FLUSHED. Techway Automotive got me for a $760 thermostat. I will not recommend or use them again. Be cautious out on the road! read more

Pay attention to what other reviewers have said about Techway's HIGH prices. Know what a reasonable charge is for your repair before going to these guys or they will take advantage of you. I recently took my GMC 1500 truck to Techway automotive due to a humming noise at highway speeds (had previously suspected front wheel bearings but replaced those with no change in noise) and suspected head gasket leakage. I had also told them that there was a previous issue with rough starting and running which had been resolved when I replaced plugs, wires and distributor cap. Their answer: rebuild rear differential for about $1900, replace water pump which they said was leaking (it isn't, at all) for about $700, and replace injector body for approx $600. About $3200 total. I had another shop check the truck for the above issues and they found none of those problems, only road noise from the tires. The truck has been starting and running just fine with no water pump leakage whatsoever. Bottom line, Techway is either incompetent, crooked, or both, not to mention exorbitantly expensive. Their estimates when they would get back to me or get something done with the vehicle were wildly optimistic. Had to call repeatedly and they would never call back as promised. Finally, as noted by another reviewer, they do seem to have a problem getting names right. read more

I have never in my life been so disappointed in services done on my vehicle - I paid $100 to get my car serviced and tires balanced and rotated. I was told by Dustin to bring my car back if the tires were still vibrating- and I did, then he admitted that the tires were only rotated not balanced. But as I said above I paid for it. Since my visit there I found that my coolant was empty and the oil filter was broken. I've had to pay $90 somewhere to replace the tire and I now have to pay for another oil change because that was never done either. read more

Long story short Took my 93 Corvette in to have some A/C work. I gave full disclosure about the quirks, doors don't lock, electric seats don't work. They couldn't open the hood. One of the techs called to ask if there was a trick to it I told him, "No, we have never had a problem getting the hood open". Had we run into problems I would have disclosed with the other things. They pulled the wires out from the latch breaking it. It's now in another shop to have the hood latch repaired so the A/C work can be taken care of. I wish I had read reviews prior to taking my business to them. They have several complaints, most seem to point to dishonesty. Had they called and told me they broke the latch and would repair it, I wouldn't be having to post this. Instead they insist that it was broken prior to this appointment. They also told me if they had done the damage they would repair it. By reviews, I am not the only person who has had to deal with this kind of treatment. At the end of our last phone conversation, the manager said, "Ma'am your car is 30 years old. We can't be responsible for things that happen like this." We trust people to take care of our vehicles and expect that they will treat them as their own, at least close to that. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way that isn't this case there. So, I just read the post from Brian Q. stating "She became hysterical and started crying". No, I did not. This just shows the lack of care and compassion this business has toward their customers. read more

On July 26th 2020, I went in to Techway on 150 Ross Clark Cir, Dothan, AL 36303 (repair order # 0035259) for what would be a simple headache in human terms and they diagnosed me with terminal metastatic lung cancer. One of the tires on my $4,000 Honda Civic had deformed while driving, which caused the whole car to shake incessantly. I went in for a diagnostics, and after 3 hours waiting, the employee (None of which were wearing masks during the Covid-19 pandemic) looked at me with a serious face and said that my car needed $3,000 worth of maintenance, and that to fix the trembling, all 4 tires needed to be replaced and aligned. The minimum to fix the problem would come up to $950. I made a call to my mechanic in Miami, and he told me to ask my girlfriend to drive the car while I looked from the outside to see if any of the tires was rolling weirdly. Easy enough, in 3 minutes, a complete novice (me) was able to realize that it was only the front left tire that needed replacement. I made a few calls and with a $55 used tire, the trembling stopped and the car is fixed. To put this into perspective, I spent 5.78% of the money they said I needed to pay to fix the trembling, and I diagnosed in 3 minutes what they had me waiting 3 hours for. The mechanic that sold me the tire said the other 3 tires were practically new, and that they did not need to be replaced (I had actually bought them new 6 months prior which is what alerted me to the SCAM). These people are white collar criminals, and if you are smart, you will stay away from them and find a mechanic with a basic sense of dignity and regard for human safety. Good luck. read more

I had my Ford Fusion checked out because when you would crank it , it would skip and it showed on a code reader that it was misfiring on #1 cylinder . My husband replaced the #1 coil and it kept doing the same thing. So we took it to Techway on May 19th and my husband picked it up on Tuesday after he got off from work and they guaranteed the car was fixed that they took out the coil he had put in and replaced it with a Ford Motor Coil which was better than the one he put in. Well he came home picked me up and we stopped by Walmart and when we got back in the car and started it up it still done the same thing. Skipping and shuttering. My car was not fixed. That cost us $398.00. He took it back down there before they closed and they took it to the back and took the #1 coil and moved it to the#2 position in which this did not solve the problem. We had no choice but to drive the car to Birmingham the next day and hope we would be ok. Well we went back the following Friday and they told us to just leave it and we took back on Memorial Day that evening and left it. They said there would be no charge this time because they didn't fix it the first time. Well we didn't hear anything from them so my husband went by there Tuesday evening and they still hadn't checked out yet. I had a Cardiologist Appt. Weds. So they loaned me a Ford Flex and it needed servicing bad. Skipped like crazy. So we took it back Thursday and went to pick our car up. And the young man at the service Desk .Shayne said it was ready. Well he left for a few minutes and came back and said we owed $458.00. I am like for what! He said they put another coil in it. We had already told them not to put anymore coils in the car. Not at $158.00 when we can buy them for$99.00 each. After a back and forth discussion Shayne went and got the manager Doug. He finally said let them take the car, but he didn't want us to say that they didn't fix our car. Well no y'all didn't fix our car. It is still skipping and shuttering.. , After three trips down there you would think the problem would have been solved. Think we was put on the back burner to start with. And no we did not pay the $458.00.. The car is still messed up and there is no way I will ever take another vehicle to them. We are not the only ones with complaints about Techway. And the smart a-- comment that was made to my husband was uncalled for. My husband made the comment that he could buy those Ford Motor Coils for $99.00 and ask if they would put the coils in and he would pay the labor and I think it was Doug that said no we can't make any money that way and you would.t take your own hamburger meat to McDonalds and ask them to make your hamburger for you! Just really don't care for this place at all! So disappointed with this place. Got some attitude up in there to! And oh the day we picked up our car trust mt alot of customers heard everything. DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE HERE, YOU WILL REGRET IT. If I could give this no stars, I would. I brought my 2009 Subaru in with a cylinder misfire last October, and through a FIVE (5) MONTH repair process they managed to destroy my turbo, ruin my engine, and waste more of my time and money than I care to imagine. They wouldn't even claim responsibility for the damages they caused...fortunately their insurance company, Penn National, stepped in to make things right. When they "finished" I had to have my vehicle taken by my family to Washington state as I had already moved out of state in the FIVE (5) MONTHS it took for this "repair" to take place. My vehicle now leaks oil like a sieve, was returned missing parts, and is unsafe to drive. For example, 3 out of 5 lugnuts where missing when the vehicle came out of the shop and the rest of the lugnuts were "hand tightened" as identified by another certified shop. Now I will be working through their insurance and legal routes to make this right through a licensed Subaru shop. This company claimed the vehicle was safe to drive, and proceeded to take my family's life into its incompetent hands. These is the worst set of mechanics, supervisors, and owners I have ever experienced. Do not take your vehicle here; their work is hazardous, their customer service insulting, and their reputation misleading. read more

Worst Automotive Repair Shop Experience EVER! I took my 2002 BMW X5 to Techway because I was told their BMW guy was the best in Dothan. I had a brake line leaking and after dropping it off, I expected a call the next day on the repair/cost. I ended up calling them the next day and was told they were about to pull it in. Nothing back until I called the next day and was told instead of replacing the whole line they could do a simple repair replacing a portion of the line. The Techway rep then quoted my $400 to do the job and I pushed back immediately because that was excessive. He almost immediately came down to $250 and it became OBVIOUS he was trying to gouge me (BMW, right?). I authorized the repair and was told I could pick it up by the end of the day because it's a 2-hour job. I call back at the end of the day (because nobody calls customers back at this place) and was told the mechanic is finishing up and I could come get it. I get a call back within minutes and am told by the same guy that they had a problem finding the correct size brake line and now it isn't going to be ready. Irritated, I asked why he just told me it was almost done sod he stumbled on words for about 30 seconds and couldn't give me a reply. Terrible!! So the next day he tells me they couldn't find a brake line repair kit anywhere in Dothan, AL, and would have to order it directly through BMW and I wouldn't get my car until the next week on Tuesday. Tuesday rolls around with no phone calls so I call them at the end of the day and am told only some of the parts came in and it will be Wednesday. I call the next day and am told they got the parts but BMW sent the wrong items so it will be Thursday. By this time they've had my car for over a week and I'm beside myself for many reasons. I end up calling the BMW parts dept in Montgomery, AL, and they tell me of the issues with Techway and how they sent the exact parts they asked for. What I learned is that Techway didn't ask the right questions because BMW DOESN'T MAKE BRAKE LINE REPAIR KITS!! BMW replaces entire brake lines if they leak, so Techway chased their tail and wasted a bunch of my time. So after another day of no progress, I speak to another Techway rep and he was much more knowledgeable and better at communicating the status of the job. Techway ended up having to manufacture a brake line compression fitting to suit the unique size of the X5 brake line. They got the job done by Friday afternoon but weren't able to bleed the brakes because he said the bleeder valve were so rusted they were afraid it was going to break. So they applied some WD-40 and wanted to leave it for the weekend. but said they would likely bleed from the brake hose-to-caliper if the bleed valve was still frozen. But that still leaves air in the system?? Monday rolls around and I'm told I can come get it. I go to pick it up and start the car and the brake pedal goes almost to the floor. I pump it a few times and still very little back pressure. I get the initial rep I've dealt with out there I and he has no clue about anything, so I demand the BMW mechanic come out and explain how he bled the brakes. After about 10 minutes he comes out and tells me he bled them from the brake hose-to-caliper but there might still be some air trapped in the caliper. He said the air will work itself out through the master cylinder after a few days use. He told me it was safe to drive so I took the car. The whole ride home the brakes were very mushy and WAS NOT safe to drive. I get home and call my buddy who used to be an ASE mechanic and he told me air is only removed from brake lines by bleeding the brakes and the BMW mechanic lied to me. So on top of that, I crawl under the car to look at the hose-to-caliper line and, to my surprise, there were was NO TOOL MARKS on the dirty and corroded bolt. So not only did the mechanic lie about how air will remove itself from my brake lines, but he also didn't even bleed my brakes after having an open brake line... UNBELIEVABLE!! I took the car over to my buddy's house and we bled the brakes removing abunch of air pockets. Oh and all 4 bleed valves were used without issue! In all, it took 12 days to get my car back from Techway for a simple 2 hour job where they touted having the "Best BMW mechanic in the Wiregrass". I sent an email complaint to the Techway rep asking it be forwarded to the owner. I called the next day and was told the owner was looking into it and he would get back with me. Three days pass and still nothing from the owner! It's a shame that the owner doesn't think enough of his small business to follow up complaints with some sort of response, but that told me everything I needed to know about this company. This whole experience was UNACCEPTABLE and if my review can prevent just one person from taking their vehicle to TECHWAY AUTOMOTIVE in Dothan, AL, I will have done my job.
