We hired their services to redo our backyard three floor decks in the month of March 2025, the work completed in December 2025. Final results are beautiful, quality, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Very happy with all the work they did in the back of the house so we hired them to do additional work to the front of our house and replaced all wood with PVC product and all handrails and banisters with metal. They look absolutely gorgeous. I found their communication software very user friendly. Payment process was disclaimed at front based on milestones. Of course there's always glitches in the process and it wouldn't be fair to leave a review without mentioning them. 1- working to get architecture and engineering completed took a few months. 2- a significant surprising unsightly design change was not disclosed. There were additional costs to cover it up. 3- designer renderings showed all wood posts and joist in black paint but this was not included in the original cost, this was another significant cost increase. 4- all decks were to have lights on all railings, that was on the original contract. However, we were told later that the cost of an electrician was not included in our contract. This was yet another cost surprise. Overall, I am very pleased with everything as they addressed every single item that needed to be addressed and it looks beautiful. I will definitely hire them again, but just make sure to ask all posible questions no matter how silly to ensure that everything is included in that upfront quote and there are no surprises. read more

I hired Techwood Decks for a large remodel project -- a new deck, sunroom enclosure, and electrical work -- totaling about $115,000. The finished product looks beautiful, but the process to get there was stressful, drawn out, and poorly communicated. At the start of the project, we discussed several design options and the team made changes to the original city-approved plans. What they failed to do was forewarn me that those changes could trigger major delays with city inspections. When the city reviewed the project, it was flagged for not following the structural engineer's and architect's approved plans -- which I had provided upfront. In hindsight, they should have advised sticking with the original plans rather than taking a risk that ultimately caused significant setbacks. Once the city got involved, the project stalled and the consistency of the crew and workmanship declined. There were even permanent holes left in the decking from where screws had to be removed, and the initial suggestion was to simply cover them with plastic plugs -- completely unacceptable for the cost of this project. I had to insist that those boards be replaced rather than patched. I'm ultimately glad I withheld the final payment until every last issue was addressed, because I don't believe the work would have been completed properly otherwise. Even then, I had to follow up on details like tar left on the roof, wiring falling off the siding, and uneven paint touch-ups. To their credit, the finished work is structurally solid and visually beautiful once everything was corrected. But for a six-figure investment, the lack of transparency, accountability, and proactive communication throughout the process was disappointing. If you hire Techwood Decks, make sure any deviations from city-approved plans are fully documented and that you retain a portion of payment until every inspection and detail is finalized. They are capable builders -- but the management and communication process need serious improvement. read more

Our deck replacement/enlargement project took years of unnecessary time because I had approached the wrong people which included several contractors and architects. By the time we submitted our plans to the San Carlos Building Department towards the end of 2025, we were informed that the regulations had changed as of January 2025. I had first met my architect in May 2023. Months of plan alterations followed. My architect enlisted the help of a civil engineering firm which was totally unnecessary and cost over $10,000. My structural engineer had to submit plan changes as did the architect. Worse of all, we had to downsize the deck. We were not happy! My wife finally got into action, did a search online and found Techwood Decks, a local company in San Carlos. From the first moment I visited their office/showroom and met Wesley, one of the owners, everything "clicked". I felt a sense of trust, experience and knowledge. From there on, with the help of Cejana, who had excellent communication skills with the building department, me and my wife, we managed to fly past many hurdles and got the project started in January 2026. It was a huge endeavor which I thought would take 6 months, but to my disbelief, Cejana said no, it would be about 2 months. It actually took 54 working days. From beginning to end, the workers arrived early morning between 8 to 8:30 and finished between 4:30 to 5:00pm. There was never a day that no one showed up. This was important to show the integrity of any company. Ours was a complex job which took many stages but thanks to my project manager, Kaio had kept all the materials ready for the crew at all times. This was not an easy task. There were hundreds of details and thanks to the staffs' patience, allowed me to have a hand in play with my many questions. From the beginning, I hesitated with their recommendation of their rendition drawings of the proposed deck. I was glad I had it done as I saw things which persuaded me to make a few changes and which made the entire project flow better. Don't skimp on the finishing touches, such as the fence, railing and steps. They know exactly what to do. The lighting on the railing and steps was outstanding. We have a new deck of over 1,000sf using the top of the line TimberTech material. It is long lasting with no maintenance ever needed. No more sanding and re-staining ever again. I am excited to share our experience working with WL Pro Builders on a recent landscaping project. Our initial project design was created by Yardzen, and subsequently supplemented with structural design details provided by an engineer with whom we had worked previously. By the time WL Pro Builders were brought on board, they were only provided with a permitted set of CAD drawings for a part of the project. Despite these limitations, they excelled at bringing our vision to life, illustrating their capabilities in both interpretation and execution. The project was complex and involved the construction of a cantilevered deck that was situated precariously close to multiple pre-existing retaining walls. The task demanded intricate manual cutting of concrete footings, a challenge necessitated by the need to avoid any damage to the retaining walls. The design also called for the inclusion of 10ft deep piers for sturdy deck support. WL Pro was able to execute on these requirements even amidst the heavy rain spells that were prevalent in the early months of 2023. What set the WL Pro team apart was not just their technical expertise but their consistent professionalism and positive attitude throughout the project. This admirable attitude was exhibited from the project leaders, Lucas and Wesley, down to each and every crew member who arrived at our home each day. WL Pro Builders just completed our backyard deck and I can't overstate how pleased we are with the result. We were replacing a 20 year old redwood deck that was on its last legs. The rain over the 2023 winter finally did it in. This time we decided to go with a new material for the decking, specifically we chose the Timbertech Advanced PVC material. We looked at the samples and concluded that the Advanced PVC material actually looked better than the composite line. It is a little more expensive but also comes with a 50 year warranty. Moving on to the process, I had a number of contractors bid on the project. Most of the quotes were within a few thousand dollars. The big difference is that WL Pro Builders immediately focused on the details of the deck including: 1) which manufacturer and material, the pros and cons of each 2) the pattern and size of the blanks, 3) whether we wanted a border in a contrasting color, 4) the fascia and how to handle the area under the deck, 5) lighting, 6) the railing, and so on. We had some specific requests for the railing and our desire to accommodate a mature fruit tree at the edge of the deck by creating a cut around in the deck without hurting the tree. They came through on all of it. They also follow a quoting process that is detailed so you understand the costs of the various components. If you want it done right! We live in a 1400 square feet home in San Mateo. Our 400 square foot deck in our back yard was made of redwood and in bad shape.
