5/5 - True Craftsmanship and Professionalism from Perretti Builders After building fences and decks for many years and eventually becoming a general contractor specializing in custom homes (including our own), my husband has extremely high standards when it comes to construction quality. He personally designed and built our home's deck twice over the past 50 years--each one lasting 25 years. Now, at 88 years old, he decided it was time to pass the torch and hire a contractor to construct our third deck. We carefully interviewed several builders and reviewed examples of their work before choosing Perretti Builders, and we are so glad we did. Their quote was reasonable compared to others, and JorgePadilla, who speaks both English and Spanish, was incredibly receptive to our ideas and special requests, including built-in benches and flower boxes, while working within our existing footprint. The crew, led by Amalcar, arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. every day. All three workers were highly skilled, friendly, and made sure to clean up the site daily. My husband, a true craftsman himself, was genuinely impressed by the quality of the workmanship and the professionalism of the entire team. The finished deck is absolutely beautiful--thoughtfully constructed, sturdy, and completed on time and on budget. No show on appoinment. I called and asked to get an estimate for a deck repair. Spoke with J directly I believe. We made an appointment for today at 2pm. It's 2:26 and no call and no show. The phone number on their website goes to a full voicemail box so I can't even leave a message. I'm tired of contractors blowing people off. Let's all take our money elsewhere. Jorge and his crew installed a large Pergola I had purchased from "Struxure". I recently had pavers installed by another company and that was a not so great experience so I was on guard as the pergola needed precision and craftsmanship. Jorge and his team were super people. They were always smiling, always on time and Jorge kept me in the loop at every step of the way. The area where Jorge's team really stood out was around the design itself. I had worked the design with the Struxure company directly and, partially my fault, it was flawed. The fireplace was to pass through the pergola roof but since the fireplace had been placed a few inches off center, Jorge's team needed to adjust their cuts to make it fit. They didn't cut corners and they took their time to get it right. It's beautiful and without Jorge's team, I could have ended up with a real disaster. So far our experience with attempting to get a struxture pergola installed has been appalling. We worked with Marco Vidal. The lack of customer service and no communication for 6 months since taking the deposit is a disappointment. The money was taken promptly but even now we keep getting told about extra costs and delays with no clear information. There is no transparency in communication and we are left guessing and having to call multiple times. The tipping point for me was having marco yell at me on th phone! Talk about making a blunder and then accusing the customer. Take your money and sanity with you to go with another builder. We have worked with many other builders and contractors so we are confident this is not how the process goes! read more

J Perretti Builders was suggested to us by another deck builder who doesn't work in our area and it turns out that recommendation was spot on. We have been spending more time in our backyard during the pandemic and we wanted to enjoy a better deck. Jorge was prompt with everything from appointments to quotes to communicating which made it easy to work with him. His pricing was competitive and his knowledge of decks was excellent. He was flexible with our schedules and always professional. We ended up choosing a composite material called Timbertech Pro Legacy collection. We chose a Pecan color for the main part of the deck and also took Jorge's suggestion to put a darker Mocha colored picture frame around the outside. The deck looks wonderful that way. The crew did great and precise work. You could tell they cared about the job because they were punctual and spent a lot of time making sure things were measured correctly and set right. They cleaned up after themselves daily and got the job done in the estimated time frame. The overall job is amazing and we are extremely happy with our new deck. My vintage house had a sad, small back door landing. A a narrow flight of stairs gave access down to the backyard. Jorge Perretti was recommended by friends, also with a vintage house, as resource to consult with regarding an elevated deck and replacement of the existing back door landing situation. I wanted to replace the small landing, and stairs, with a deck and new stairs. Jorge came over and within 15 minutes I knew this was going to work. The scope of the work included demotion of the existing landing, stairs, and concrete slab. The new deck would be designed and built to go up to the back of the house, but NOT rely upon the house for support. Jorge drew up beautiful plans and went to the city, for a permit. We had one minor hiccup, which was resolved in the same day. My vintage house is in an historic neighborhood. The planning department needed verification that adding a deck on to the back of the house was well within allowable changes. This was confirmed by a member of the Historic Resources Advisory Commission. During demolition, the crew did an excellent job. They were able to leave the back landing and stairs up for a little longer, than originally planned, since I needed them to let my dog out. When they were taken down, it was a mild inconvenience for about a week. The original design was going to be redwood decking and redwood railing / stainless steel cables. Jorge, after meeting my dog, suggested an alternative to redwood decking. I went with Garapa, a Brazilian Ash, which was also a painter friend had recommended. Very good hardwood and scratch resistant. It also has the insect resistant properties as Redwood. The original plans were mostly stuck to.A deck that would run from the back door to the East side of my house. The stairs would be wider and deeper. But, I did request lattice all around the bottom and fascia boards. Both of these enhancements was to cover the pressure treated wood, the "guts" of the deck. With the removal of the concrete slab and some of my flagstone, I wanted a good covering of pea gravel. It looks great! The deck is done! I am having a long-time friend and painting contractor do the final painting and staining, rolling it into other similar projects. The deck is about 250 sq feet. Just the right scale for my yard. Job well done! And, my dog loved meeting the various craftsmen that worked on the project. I would gladly recommend Jorge Perretti and J. Perretti builders to anyone. read more

I've got J. Perretti name from a lumber yard. Looked him up on Yelp where he has perfect score, though only 7 reviews. Talked to him on the phone, discussed the details and sent him pictures of the deck I need replaced, as he requested. Everything went nice. We scheduled a visit to my house to look at the deck for Monday morning. Monday morning came and gone but Mr. Perretti is nowhere to be found. He didn't answer his phone nor did he answered a text message. Doesn't look like a reliable person. Strange. read more

Jorge & his workers replaced our 10+yrs wooden backyard deck with a Trex deck. The deck support systems consists of mostly 4x4 and is completely raised above grade with concrete supports. They also dig down below the gravel, into the dirt, and slopped & rerouted the down spouts away from the house. Jorge also suggested we add a "frame", with accented color at the edge of the deck for "level" seperation. He also suggested to slope the deck where it meets the paver, therefore eliminate one "low" step. Jorge, the owner himself checks on the progress everyday & discuss with us on any potential changes. The workers also have very good work ethics. Started working at 8:30 am, took half an hour lunch & worked until quitting time.They also did very "precise" cuts to fit the boards close to the retaining wall. They also cleanup the work area before leaving everyday !!! All the extras (my thought) were performed with no extra charges. I highly recommend Jorge & his crew for any deck work. We are really happy to have this beautiful deck espically appreciate Jorge's simple but excellent suggestions. read more

Jorge and his crew are everything they should be, everything you could desire in a deck contractor, or any contractor. Before Jorge I believed the way you could tell a contractor was lying was that their lips were moving. In contrast, Jorge did everything he said he would and he did it when he said he would. He responded to text and email quickly. His builders showed up on time, did not block my driveway and did not treat my home like it was a garbage can. They picked up and straightened the site every afternoon before they left. I would love Jorge just for that, but the deck he built is so, so beautiful, so much lovelier than I expected. Additionally, I feel the price was very reasonable. Do yourself a favor and hire Jorge if you want a deck. read more

We will not recommend, or work with, Jorge Perretti Builders, again. We had a $44,660 Trex Deck/Patio project with Jorge Perretti Builders. Jorge was the most expensive of the 6 bids we acquired. Jorge was recommended to us by The Decking SuperStore in San Jose...which we later learned has 62% one-star reviews on Yelp. Complaints: 1) Jorge Perretti refused to give us the Trex Warranty on thousands of dollars' worth of Trex Deck composite boards used to build two decks at our home. Composite wood warranties were discussed during the project planning stage. Jorge never mentioned he would not be giving us the warranty for the Trex boards. 2) Chaotic project management: For half of the project we were not informed if the workers would be coming the next day or not...despite repeatedly asking. We had to be there to cut off the alarm system to grant access to the workers. The Jorge's contract called for "12 working days". The project started on March 5th and ended April 28th. We experienced worker no-shows and workers showing up when we were told they would not be coming. 3) Failure to include deck lighting expense in the bid despite deck lighting discussions at the planning stage of the project. Jorge attempted to surprise-charge us three times what we ultimately paid for the deck lighting. We found Jorge's contract to be intentionally vague and unfortunately requiring a lot of trust. 4) Failure to keep his word to mail us missing specialized screws for the deck steps. We found pre-drilled holes on the step boards, without screws, after the project was over. We sent Jorge pictures of the empty screw holes and he said he would send us the missing screws. He did not mail the screws and he did not respond to follow-up requests. Jorge did not complete the project. He had already been paid-in-full. We will not recommend Jorge or work with him again. We have already warned several friends, with very large deck projects, against using Jorge Perretti Builders. read more

Jorges and team installed aluminum cable railings on two high decks and stairs for me. Excellent workmanship and an extremely courteous, competent and friendly team. These days it can be tough to find an attentive builder with clearly strong integrity and pride in the service he delivers whether it's a large or small job - I can't recommend these guys enough. I plan on using them again for a larger decking job in the future based on this experience. read more

We used Jorge and his crew to build two large Ipe decks, an Ipe fence and a cedar arbor at our home in Redwood City. Jorge is one of the best contractors I have ever worked with. Ipe is a difficult wood to build with, and Jorge and his crew knew all of the tricks of the trade to build a beautiful deck. He was on time, knew what he was doing and was there in person a lot of the time, even though his crew is very knowledgeable and independent. I would use him again in a minute. read more
