The office is well-decorated and cozy with accent walls and aesthetically-pleasing black and white photos of people with ridiculously white teeth. They have complimentary fruit and drinks (orange juice, green tea, water, etc.), free yummy chapstick, and of course your obligatory floss and toothpaste. The exam/cleaning rooms all have nice, big windows, so you can look out the window or watch TV while you are having work done, your choice. Also, you have the option of dipping your hands in a paraffin wax bath for a nice hand treatment as you get your teeth done. Absolutely genius ... I mean, if you're sitting there for an extended period of time anyway, why not? Everyone I interacted with there was very pleasant, but, most importantly, honest. Dr. Alber has a very frank, here's-how-it-is personality, which I really appreciated. He told me I should consider having my wisdom teeth out in the near future, and when I admitted that I thought I would be doing that on my next visit to Peru, he encouraged me. "Heck, they can do it for a lot cheaper than I can -- and they have good dentists!" he said. I really appreciated that because he could have said something like "Well, the only way you can be SURE to have it done well is to go through me." I loved the no-upsale approach. My visit was very cheap; with insurance, it ended up being $22, but without it would have been $110 for cleaning, xrays, and checkup. I will definitely be going back.

We met at a continuing ed course in Southern California (yes, those thrilling weekend getaways where we learn about root canals and try to stay awake after lunch). For a year, we treated a guy in his 30s who'd lost more than a few teeth. And during that time, I realized something: Scott is that guy. The one who's calm under pressure, insanely smart, and actually listens--to both patients and colleagues. He's the kind of dentist who somehow explains complex stuff without sounding like a robot or a YouTube tutorial. Oh--and he used to teach at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. I'm not saying the course instructor was bad, but let's just say Scott was the one dropping the real gems. Look, Scott's not the bargain-bin option. And thank goodness--because you don't want a discount pilot or a budget surgeon, right? Same goes for teeth. You want someone who knows their stuff, tells it to you straight, and doesn't treat you like a set of molars with a wallet. I trusted Dr. Henes to fix the gray discoloration in my two front teeth after an accident. He…read moreconfidently told me he would have no trouble covering the gray, but the final result had two obvious gray lines running straight down the veneers. In outdoor lighting it was even more noticeable and honestly embarrassing. We agreed to have him redo them and also veneer the two side teeth. During the process, while he was grinding the side teeth, he actually knicked a small chunk out of one of my existing veneers. On top of that, the lab kept producing veneers that looked completely unnatural and did not match my teeth at all. At this point I lost trust in the entire process and decided to go somewhere else. I did not even receive a refund for the damaged veneer, and they refused to offer any type of partial refund even though the work was never completed and the original issue was never corrected. He also did a very poor job explaining the process and I still do not understand why he did not properly block the gray the first time when that was the entire reason I went there. I strongly advise avoiding this office for veneers. Dr. Henes is not a professional cosmetic dentist and the work left my teeth looking worse than when I started.
