I haven't been in here in a couple of years. Now I remember why I fell in love with this place. First off they have all different types of fresh meats. A ton of different kind of bacon and different cheeses as well. The staff is polite and the service is fast. The sandwiches are so simple but are made with quality ingredients and the bread is nice and soft. The ambiance of this place is great. It's a deli. People are coming in to dine-in as well as grab their meat or potato salad to have at home. Everyone that worked there seemed pretty happy to take care of us and get us fed! Now for the food.... I ordered the Waldorf Chicken Salad on top of greens. So it was the actual salad--not the sandwich. The chicken salad was good. But the idea of placing it on top of lettuce might need to not be a thing. It's great if you're watching your figure or want more veggies...but it ends up being very dry and just weird. THey did give me a dressing...but I wasn't really sure what it was. Maybe a mustard-vinagrette type of thing. I'm not 100% positive of what it was, but I did not like it. So, I just ate my salad slightly dry. Found this gem when we drove into Charleston for a late lunch. This place is not only a sandwich/panini cafe with bottled brews but also sells various cheeses, meats, jams, salts (truffle salt too!). I am writing this review LITERALLY while I am eating my food. It is that good. Do not kid yourself. Get the Mac and Cheese. Yes it's cold, but it is so delicious! I am enjoying a scrumptious Waldorf Salad Sandwich and I could not be more pleased. It's very refreshing, and the flavors are to die for. I couldn't be more pleased. Went here on a recent visit to Charleston but have definitely been here before during my previous time in Charleston. This time around we have covid restrictions so slightly different. Nonetheless, I helped myself to a delicious glass of rose and order a curried chicken salad for lunch. The chicken salad was soooooooooo good. Ted's is my go-to for lunch when I'm downtown. Often times I want to be adventurous. I feel I should try all of the new varieties popping up in Charleston on the daily (it seems like). If I don't want to think about it and know I want something delicious, Ted's it is. Everything I have had has always been delicious. My theory is to first check the specials board to see if anything catches my eye. Whatever it may be needs to sound damn good for me to fore go the Pulled Pork or the Waldorf Salad. If nothing grabs my attention, it comes down to hot or cold between the two mentioned above. I do want to try the BLT. Not usually a go-to sandwich for me, but if a simple sandwich like a BLT can be named best sandwich in South Carolina, then I need to try it. For the side item, no question here, Mac & Cheese no matter what. Some complain about the small size, but they pack it in there. Pretty sure if someone is complaining they didn't get enough Mac & Cheese, they are just saying "it is delicious and I can't imagine leaving without stuffing more of it in my face". In that case, kudos to you Ted's. For a drink, I either go with a craft beer from the case or just the pitchers of cce water and lemon they have set out. A nice touch actually. While you are at the counter grab a couple "landjaeger's" out of the glass jar for the road. They are like a gourmet Slim Jim "Ohhh Yeahhh!". It always puzzles me to see how busy the deli next door getsl. Not that Ted's isn't busy (at lunch sometimes there is a line out the door), I am just confused as to why you would ever go eat at just a regular ole sandwich shop with Ted's literally next door. Ted's is really more than a sandwich place. They have a butcher shop and sell all sorts of wines, cheeses, etc... They also offer a Bacon-of-the-Month club... my birthday is in July... hint hint. I have seen that they are also doing dinners on Fridays and other pop up style specials. Price is very reasonable and on the top of my list to try. Maybe this Friday? PS. Ted's get Wifi! We ordered Thanksgiving turkeys from them with some sides and gravy. Food was delicious!! Ordering was a major hassle. I called 4 times to place an order and they were too busy to take my order every time. They asked if they could call back, which they did but I missed the first call . . . regardless it was a hassle. When we got there for pickup they had my name wrong! They found my order and all was good. We will use them again and I'd love to try a sandwich or two, but maybe we'll go there to order. I knew I was in for a treat when I approached Ted's and they had a Big Green Egg (google it, if you are no familiar) fired up outside. However, I came for two things.... the bacon of the month BLT and the aged gouda mac and cheese. The ciabatta bread was the perfect balance of firm yet soft texture, the spring mix was fresh and added a nice bite, the garlic aioli packed a garlicky punch and zing, the bacon had a great flavor and was nice and thick....BUT it was COLD. Really? I was expecting hot, crispy bacon...not cold, refrigerated bacon... The mac and cheese was made from perfectly cooked al dente shells and a cheese sauce made from a rue. It lacked a nice crust, in my opinion and contrary to other reviews, I feel it could be skipped. Especially, since it was served COLD. These shortcuts are huge in my book. This easily could have been a five star lunch. I can tell that these guys know their meat! They have gator, quail, lardon, marguez sausage, rilette, terrarine, jerky, landjager, etc. Also, they have a small wine selection and a small, but quality cheese and olive selection. You can pick up pierorgies, marcona almonds, local pickles, or banana pudding flavored popsicles. They had a pretty cool beer (nice micros and Belgiums) and fancy waters and sodas to accompy your meal. There is free water in the center of the store. I was there around noon on a Saturday and it was packed. You line up to order and hope for a seat. They call out your name when your order is ready. It was tasty and I do recommend it....but if they did it right, it would have been so much better. :-( At dinner time they will cook up a steak on the Big Green Egg and on the weekend they were fliiping burgers. We came by today for a quick Father's Day lunch. They grill burgers on Saturday's and both my husband and I had one. They were delicious. Very friendly staff! Can't remember the last time someone at a casual style restaurant was so nice and accommodating. The place feels very relaxed and just a great atmosphere. This is going to sound weird coming from a vegetarian, but this place was amazing! I walk in, and this wonderful gem of a person, Morgan, greets me. I explain to her that I've heard amazing things about Ted's, and have to try it, then I explain my situation (the one of not eating meat). She patiently walks me through all of the vegetarian options. Afterwards, she gives me a tour of the place in case I want to bring the meat eater of a husband by (which I will!). The food was amazing, I literally watched the chefs behind the counter stirring soup and creating new dishes for the counter. When in Charleston, you won't be disappointed with a stop at Ted's! I went with a party of five for the Friday night dinner on June 25. After making the reservation a few weeks in advance, since we were traveling in from out of town, they called the day before to confirm and review the menu (which changes weekly). Our featured choice was a grilled quail, which three of us got and was excellent. That came with veggies, duck fat roasted potatoes, and a pickled peach ginger aioli (amazing!) The other 2 entrees were 8oz beef tenderloin filets (cooked to a perfect medium) and sides (Gouda Mac and cheese - yum!) and Caesar salad. The meat - as expected at a butcher shop - was fantastic. It was the dessert that really made the visit complete - a bread pudding with strawberries. Outstanding. The wine and beer selection was solid too. The staff - Jared, Ted, plus a new waitress who's name I didn't catch - took great care of us. Will go back when we're back in the area. read more

Stopped in a whim while waiting to go on the Ft Sumter tour. Small place, limited seating but a lot of traffic coming and going for the deli as well as take out hot food. Clearly this is a hidden gem favored by locals. I had a bbq sandwich while my wife had the burger of the day. Look forward to going back on our next visit - very convenient to our hotel. Pretty standard foodie fare, but I wasn't 100% happy. I got the special Hunan pork shoulder sandwich. I'm not sure if it was the sauce or what but something tasted a bit like lighter fluid. Maybe it was vinegar that was just sitting on the cabbage? It was a sandwich that seems like a really good idea on paper but everything just didn't come together. It would probably be fine without the bread. I got the Mac n cheese side, and it was a little weird cold. I also got a beer from the fridge and somehow my total was $25 for lunch. I just wasn't satisfied for a $25 meal. I'm also not a picky eater at all. There are three things I don't like: sun-dried tomatoes, cantaloupe, and eel, so it's not that. Ok second time going to Ted's so I have to update my review! I had an AMAZING pastrami sandwich today! My boyfriend also had the chicken,pancetta, and avocado sandwich. Of course we just split both sandwiches and I couldn't have picked a better lunch spot! Sorry no picks because it was just gone soo fast! This place has amazing sandwiches and meats! It's tucked away on east Bay Street but a place you must go to! It's right beside east bay deli, but wayyy better!! I had a vegetable panini that was amazing and a salad! We've been going to Ted's since it opened, stopped in a week or two ago and still love it. A bit sad that we are no longer within walking distance. By far my favorite thing is Saturday burgers on the Big Green Egg. There is no way you can walk by the place and pass up the deliciousness that is on that grill. Every week is a different burger, cooked to order and amazing. Also a fan of the Friday Night Dinners and Wine Tastings (the $5 for the wine tasting is a donation to a local cause/then you can buy a bottle to have with your meal at a discount). You can pick meat or fish from the case and have it grilled with your choice of sides. Not sure if they are doing the special menu each week, but if you follow them on instagram you will know in advance. I'd make a reservation during the busy times of the year. Years ago we had them cater a party and everything was top notch, plenty of food. We've also gotten gift baskets at Christmas and they really do their best to customize it for you and make it special. We were also constant buyers of Ted's Bolognese sauce out of the case - IT'S AWESOME. I like the place for lunch, favorite sandwiches would be - Pulled Pork Panini and the Pancetta Chicken Avocado. I like their salads as well, usually do a make your own. The sides to me are ok - but often have more ingredients than I want. I'd score them 5 stars, but there are times when they get really slammed that I feel like I get way less salad than I would if it were earlier in the day or less crowded and sometimes I wish they would change up the sandwich menu more often. The burger, however, cannot be beat. Also Ted is a Jersey guy - so props for that. read more

Hands down one of the BEST sandwich places I have ever been to. I got the pulled pork panini which was fantastic.
