I came to Dar Tajine in Plantation with a good friend of mine, and we truly dined like kings. This was one of those meals that stays with you, because everything came together so beautifully. The food was wonderful from start to finish, and the atmosphere made the experience even more special. There was something about the ambiance that took me right back to France, to those moments of breaking bread with my North African friends, surrounded by warmth, conversation, and the kind of hospitality that makes a place feel familiar the moment you walk in. I felt right at home. Fatima deserves special recognition. She was so kind to me and made me feel completely welcome. Her presence was gentle, warm, and sincere, and it elevated the entire experience. It honestly felt like I was being looked after at my Moroccan auntie's house. That kind of feeling cannot be faked, and it means a great deal. As for the food, it was amazing. The pastilla with chicken and almonds, dusted with sugar and cinnamon, was absolutely delicious, with that beautiful balance of savory richness and gentle sweetness that makes the dish so memorable. The msemmen was warm, comforting, and deeply satisfying. The merguez tajine was full of flavor and beautifully prepared. The Moroccan harira had that soulful, nourishing quality that makes a great soup feel like part of the heart of the meal. The zaalouk was excellent as well, rich and flavorful and a perfect addition to everything else on the table. Dar Tajine gave us more than a meal. Found this place on yelp when I was in the area and glad I did. Had an excellent meal with my family. We started the meal with mint tea and this pastry filled with chicken. I was surprised how much I loved the tea. The pastry was really good as well. For entrees we ordered the beef tajine and the Royal couscous. I went to Dar Tajine this evening with my husband and the food was a 10/10. We ordered the large mint tea which was extremely fresh and the tea pot had a beautiful Moroccan design. For appetizers we ordered the beet salad and spinach salad. Both were extremely fresh and filling. As our main dish we tried the lamb Tajine which is one of the national dishes. The lamb was perfectly prepared and the spices and sauce were very flavorful along with the rice. All together the meal was extremely healthy and priced very reasonably. I tried this restaurant with my friend who said it's one of her favorite restaurants. I ordered one of the specialities, Lamb Shank Tangine. It comes with either vegetables or prunes and almonds, I chose the vegetables. I found it quite bland. I was expecting a more flavorful seasoned taste. I had some leftovers the next day, and had to add some seasoning at home. The server was friendly, but after she delivered us the food, she didn't come by once to check on our meal, and it was not crowded. If she did, I may have asked for more seasoning, but I didn't want to impose. My friend loved her meal. So all in all, I would try this restaurant again, but one of the other offerings from the interesting menu. read more

Morocco has been on my travel bucket list for a long time, so you can imagine how excited I was to discover that we have Moroccan cuisine right here in Broward! I ordered the mint tea with the chicken briwat appetizer and the seafood tajine with rice as my entree. The mint tea was pleasantly sweet without being overwhelming, and had a subtle flavor that I really enjoyed. I only ordered a small pot this time, but I'm pretty sure I could go through a large all by myself! I absolutely love that they pour the tea from a height for you too, it really made the experience. The chicken briwat had so much flavor packed into each roll and was served piping hot and perfectly crispy. I also really liked the tajine - the seafood was cooked well, and the tomato-based sauce was flavorful without being too acidic. There were so many tasty-sounding dishes on the menu, I can't wait to come back and try some more! The colorful, decorative interior of the restaurant was very inviting, and I was thoroughly impressed with the service. Our waiter was friendly and so attentive despite handling all the tables himself. For us who are not big eaters, portions were fine and favorable with a touch of left overs. A small bread loaf came with 2 small cups one sweet like a mayo the other spiced. I did ask for a bread to go (charged an extra $4.00 not being told) though even had I been told, I'd likely still have bought it to top off the leftovers but might have asked for additional dips (I take a star away for that) I do suggest the mint tea served flamboyantly in silver tea pot with special potholder handle in little glasses. Once in awhile, something so unique comes around that you have no choice but to try it. This was the case with Dar Tajine. Dar Tajine, point blank, is special. It's the only one of its kind down in South Florida. It's been around for several years now and it proudly serves Moroccan food. Having never been to Morocco, I have no idea how authentic their food really is. My companion on this foodie adventure, though, has been and he said it lined up pretty well. We're already planning a return visit. That being said, because I don't know a lot about this culture, I do have to ask myself what is typical. Yes, the food is one matter, but I want to express my thoughts on the service first. America has this whole "the customer is always right" mentality, so maybe I'm thinking of it in terms of being American. Keeping that in mind, I will tell you that the service annoyed me beyond belief. The first strike was when I called them on the Wednesday before our dinner. They say they open close to noon. Well, it took three calls before I even received an answer. I called them near opening time, about an hour later, and finally around 5 PM. It was that last one where I spoke to an employee and was suggested heavily to make a reservation for Saturday, so I did. Party of two for 7 PM Saturday night. Then Saturday arrives and we are running behind schedule. I get asked if there is any possibility of pushing the reservation to 8 PM. Sure, no problem, I'll call. Well, I called and called and called... *crickets chirp* We wound up rushing over as I couldn't get anyone on the phone and we really wanted to go to this restaurant. Strike two. Upon arrival at the restaurant, I am downright floored because the majority of the tables had paper slips with the names of the reservations. Yet almost all the tables were empty. Even later as the crowd came in, I couldn't understand how if they had an empty restaurant, no one could pick up the phone. The entire time we were there only once was the phone picked up, and at least being at the restaurant, I could see why. They're severely understaffed and it took forever to get anything. Strike three. Despite these shortcomings, I'm a fan. The food was unlike anything else I've ever had. To begin with, they don't sell alcohol, so it's either water or soda. You can have coffee or tea, too, but that tends to be best for later on in the meal. A note on the menu - they have a paper there saying prices are subject to change. I guess they are waiting for new menus to come in. As far as food goes, he ordered the royal couscous, which is lamb shank with Merguez (a type of sausage made with ground meat and Moroccan spices) with veggies on top of a bed of couscous served in warm seasoned broth. I don't like lamb in general, but I sampled it. It was tender and flavorful. The sausage, too, followed suit. It was a dish that was doused in diverse meat and so much seasonings that somehow worked in unison. My companion loved it. I found myself heavily wishing I liked red meat more. Because of the aforementioned, when I saw the half chicken tajine, I knew that was the plate for me. All the tajines brought a salad (a decent one, too) and your choice of rice or pita bread. I chose rice which came to me in a fluffy yellow color that was both pleasing to the eye and to the palette. The actual chicken meanwhile came with green olives and preserved lemon. I feel the olives could've been cooked more but nevertheless paired well with the chicken and lemon. The chicken had some parts where there was too much bone and also a tad of dryness, but the sauce it came with rectified this problem and just made me curse the cut of the chicken. I think they need to get rid of all these unnecessary bones. The sauce of the half chicken tajine meanwhile was so great that my companion kept grabbing bites of my dish. Hey, better for me: sharing is caring. That and I was already eyeing the desserts. Here the desserts are an assortment, and when you ask for dessert, you get brought to you at least four cookies made out of flour and nuts. There is sadly no chocolate, but you won't miss it. The cookies are grand, especially as they're heavy and tend to be had with either coffee or tea. We had our dessert with a medium mint tea. It came in a beautiful teapot and they poured it in front of us. I wish I had had the foresight to capture it on video because it was magical. The mint tea, too, was a rich and warm color, and drinking it, I will tell you I was reluctant to do so. I don't favor mint tea typically, but this one might have converted me. It may perhaps be all the sugar, but who knows? It's a winner. When everything's said and done, I honestly find myself debating between three or four stars. This should be an easy four stars, but the grievances put me in quite a mood. Still, given that we would delightfully go back, I think that says everything. Four stars but barely. Anyone who knows me, knows I like to source out unusual spots, for everything. So on a visit to plantation I sourced Dar Tajine. I am a tab hand at making Moroccan food, but I wanted to sample some Moroccan street food albeit being surrounded in a Moroccan oasis and this place offers this. The decor is Moroccan, colourful with beautiful lighting. They even have goods to purchase such as tagines, and some household things. We enjoyed the ritual of having the Moroccan tea. We found the music choice rather weird though, it was kinda jazz? which did not go with the aesthetics in our opinion. We tried various foods. Worthy of a stop if you are adventurous. read more

Been here several times, the flavors have always been fantastic. Went last night with my brother, we ordered: 1/2 Chicken Tagine, Kafta Tagine, Mixed Grill, and some bread and side salad. Again everything tasted great - BUT - the Mixed Grill was HALF the portion size we were expecting, especially at a $27 price tag Service was ok, the waiter was on his phone the entire time, but not a big deal. I have had this restaurant bookmarked for some time. We are fans of Moroccan food - starting many years ago when I briefly visited the country and continuing fond memories after we met the owner of a wonderful Moroccan restaurant in Atlanta (He had been the host for the Moroccan delegation during the Olympics there). Unfortunately, there are not many places that serve this cuisine in South Florida. We stopped here for lunch. I had called first to make sure they were doing inside dining (because of covid). Luckily for us, they were, and they were not busy. Tables inside were distanced so we felt comfortable. We started with a medium pot of mint tea. It came hot, fragrant, and already sweetened. It was served in small glasses as is traditional. We ordered a small chicken bastilla to start. It is baked layers of thin filo like pastry stuffed with chicken, almonds, eggs, and herbs. The outside was dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. It's one of my favorite dishes. It was aromatic and tasty. After the bastilla, we were served a house salad which came with our entree - a tagine that I had ordered. We shared the lamb shank tagine. The unique baking dish with its conical top was "presented" to the table; the top is removed dramatically (ta da!) to reveal the food below. The lamb was tender/fall off the bone, with a couple prunes and apricots, and almond slivers. We spooned the sauce over the meat and the accompanying yellow rice. For dessert, we tried their mixed "delights" - a variety of cookies with chocolate, coconut, and nuts. My favorite one was a short bread style cookie with a filling made from dates and topped with powdered sugar. If you like Moroccan food, you have to try this place. If you are curious about authentic Moroccan cuisine, this restaurant would provide a great introduction. I know we will be back. read more

The shredded chicken was a bit dry for me, but was flavored well and all the spices inside made it a delight to eat. For our mains, I had the beef tajine and my boyfriend had the lamb shank tajine. Both meats were so tender and buttery and the lamb practically fell off the bone. Both dishes were served with a mix of potatoes, carrots and other veggies so it was almost like a stew. We also ordered some fresh moroccan bread to soak up all that sauce and it was delish! For dessert, we shared the sampler which came with small authentic pastries and cookies.
