I had a car charger unit put in in 2022 and the people put in the panel upside down and put in the wires poorly that in 2026 that some of the wires melted and [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to spend more money to have the panel replace along with the fact that the wiring to my car charger was not up to code either[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would not recommend them to do anything with my house it was all shoddy work. read more

I don't appreciate that "Berkeley Electrician Guys" is NOT a real company, and is really TEK. That is shady to say the least. B.E.G. is just a fake website with random pictures from the internet-- it's not real. The company is actually TEK, which is run by Keith Wise. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Keith charged me $175 to test the outlets and fuse box with his multimeter, and asked me to reset the GFCI outlets. I understand it takes time and energy to come to a place and check it out, but that was all he did. Nothing was fixed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He told me he had to leave for another appt, and that he didn't know what was wrong or where the problem is, but could come back next week and pull down the light fixtures. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He also did not tell me what his rate was, or what kind of payment he takes until I asked, that last of which happened at the very end. He told me if I used a credit card it would add another $50. That makes no sense.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It is very likely the problem is rats chewing on wires, which I found out later from a heating repair person, but Keith did not want to go into the crawl space, or explore where the wiring is. I use Task Rabbit for minor repairs around the home. I thought changing out a switch would be easy enough and not warrant an electrician. I picked one of the cheaper taskers and it was a nightmare. So I ended up calling all the electricians in the area. By the way, google is terrible for this. Use Yelp, you'll get local businesses instead of these random paid ads with dispatchers who don't have immediate schedules or answers. All the electricians didn't have any availability till the following week. I wanted same day. I somehow happened to find TEK, looking for another similar electrician of the similar name. Glad I did. I have held off on writing this review for a few months because I understand the importance of reputation, but after my house could have caught on fire from Keith's poor workmanship this week, I knew it was time. I hired Keith to replace all the receptacles/outlets in my house because my house was built in the 1980s. He honored a quote from years ago which frankly I felt was high, but I believe in supporting Black owned businesses. What I thought would take 1 day ended up being a long 3 day process including him returning because the power in one wall stopped working the next day. Note these were all issues that came after he began working on my house. This week, a spark flashed in my bedroom and half the power in my room went out. I called another electrician and found out: 1. In the light controlled outlet three hot wires were not connected properly. They were merely connected by a wire nut and not even taped. 2. The outlet terminal screws were also not taped to protect it from the metal junction box! Disappointed. Disgusted. And will not use his services ever again because he did such a sloppy job. Contacted Keith with a small project to add ground wire to the existing outlets. I did not want to cut into the drywall. Other people I contacted were saying they had to cut into the drywall and were giving me insanely priced estimates. Keith also took the time to walk around the house and inspect for an existing grounding system. Other electricians didn't even bother doing this, and just assumed they knew how the house was wired. I would have never been able to find the existing ground rod without him, and Keith gave me a very reasonable price for the project. There is a trip to the ADU. They quoted $325. They then send someone in 2 hour, replaced the GFCI plug and left. The immediate trip can now be reset through GFCI. But it continues tripping shortly after resetting. They then came back and claimed that it is due to overloading because there was a gas oven and a fridge attached to it. They later claimed that investigating the overload is another charge. Very disappointed as a customer that the problem is not solved and there is no evidence in expanding the scope of work. I've held this review to see how Keith/TEK would follow up and at this point can say, he's not reliable and overcharges to take advantage of clients. Keith assessed an electrical need for us to add 120amp outlets to a manufactured homes for AC units, we also needed 4 external outlets repaired installed. I asked about the state of the electrical box and was told it was older but would be fine. He had his sons come to do the work which was fine but they didn't finish in one day as promised and had to come back in few days, not the next day due to their scheduling needs. His sons requested FULL payment before they even finished the job which was inappropriate at best and unethical at worst. They came back to finish but now I only had 2 external outlets that needed repaired not 4 originally assessed and quoted! I had already made the official checks so I couldn't change the payment. I asked for a credit to honor this for the future which Keith agreed too. I didn't think it would be an issue but it didn't land square as it should have. Now, a few months later we have an electrical issues in the same house. The electrical is being tripped in a few breakers constantly. He charged us over $300 for assessing this situation and another in the other house which he sons installed a 120 amp directly to the electrical box because it keeps glitching. Plus, changing out a few breakers. When we was asked about the credit he said it was credited in regards to a "consultation fee." We never had to deal with this fee before but now existed for this visit?! Convenient for him. And still proceeded to charge us the original price he stated. Had to call other electricians in as Keith messed up our kitchen outlets something fierce. The other electrician to work after Keith stated he had essentially crossed circuits together so our garbage disposal switch actually controlled our outlets, so anytime we ran our disposal all our outlets shut off.
