Date: 2/21/2017 Time: 4:00 PM 60° Mostly cloudy The two nightlights in my lamp have died. They no longer come on when I turn on my lamp. Since I don't know where or how to replace them, I did a yelp search for lamp repair here in town - Alameda. Carole L. Chan's business appears as a result of my search. The business is located on the corner of Encinal & Lafayette Streets. This place is amazing. I cannot help but admire the lamps, jewelry, various lamp bases, knick knacks (for the coffee table or end table) and all the different styles of lamp shades that she has. Carole is very pleasant and friendly. I mention to her that my nightlights on my lamp have blown and are no longer functional. I don't know how to replace them. Her daughter, Debbie, is not there to take a look at the lamp. Thus, I have to leave my lamp with them for at least a week for repair. I don't know how much the repair is. I can only wait and see. I hope the repair or replacement of the bulbs does not cost me "an arm and a leg". (I bought the lamp at the Salvation Army almost three years ago for less than $20.) read more

Great service and quality for restoring lamps. Excellent selection of shades and lamps if you are looking for something to fit your Victorian or older home. I came here to have parts on my lamp updated to fit a lampshade I bought at another store. Carol is so adorable and found a solution for me and it cost only $3.00. I had a $5 bill and told her to keep it change since I felt she deserved at least some additional money for her service but she insisted in giving me my change back. The store could be a museum with all of the little knick knacks. They do lamp repairs as well. read more

Amazing. She is a miracle in alameda. I had a vintage lamp from the 30s and no matter what I did I couldn't find a matching harp to fit it. Carol patiently when thru three harps to try to get the perfect fit and then when she was done she said $2.47! First I tried to tip her with $5, when she refused I insisted on at least a dollar more. Her store is an amazing find on the island and I'll being all my business for repairs too! read more

This lamps and accessories store has almost anything you need, especially if it is vintage for hard to find items. I went in to buy a Harp today and had checked online and they were there, but I didn't want to wait and they were so much more expensive and then shipping. The store is in Alameda where there are hundreds of beautiful historic homes that we as owners want to keep the vintage look alive. I was very happy that she had just what I needed in stock with lots of harps in different sizes and even the right light bulb that I was looking for. I was shocked when she told me the Harp was less than $3.00 and it is very good quality! This is the second time I have been there to quickly get what I needed. There are very few lighting and lamp stores in this area so we are lucky here in Alameda to have Carol L Chan's store! read more

We've done some business with Carole L. Chan a couple of times in the 24 years we've lived in Alameda. The first time was years ago when we needed replacement lampshades for our bedroom. They had a great selection and the shades have held up very well over the years. Our most recent opportunity to do business with them had to do with a chandelier that was once in Laurie's parent's home in Walnut Creek. It is made of brass and crystal and she really wanted to put in our dining room. It meant a lot to her as it will always remind her of the home she grew up in. The chandelier needed some TLC as the removal and move to our home was not kind to it. We took it to Carole L. Chan. She and Debbie refurbished it beautifully for what we thought was a very reasonable price. That was just the beginning though. I was charged with doing the work of removing our old chandelier and putting up the new one on our cathedral ceiling. I was able to easily remove the old one but the fitting pieces and mounting hardware were a bit different. We handled a couple of attempts at getting the right combination of hardware over the phone. Finally today we got all of the correct pieces after a pleasant in person visit. We were able to install the chandelier and it looks beautiful. We did have to have a couple of the pieces repaired which came apart during the installation. After one more visit Debbie took care of those quickly. If my handy work of installing the chandelier holds up (i.e. it doesn't fall off the ceiling) we will all be happy. I'm just glad to be done. LOL Happy holidays! read more

Carole and her daughter Debbie are delightful! I've bought 2 or 3 lamps over thelast few years and most recently a gorgeous antique Spanish chandalier. Carole's prices are good, and she and Debbie are very helpful and knowledgeable. They are currently repairing a broken lamp of mine. I couldn't be happier with the service I get at their shop. Very nice people to do business with. We were looking for a specific shade. They didn't have it exactly, but we ended up with something just as good. Prices are reasonable for both merchandise and repairs. We drove from Lafayette, but worth it. The only alternative for specialty shades and repair work seemed to be Finishing Touch in Walnut Creek. Takes way too long to get your items back that they are fixing or that they ordered for you and costs way too much. Much more than any other similar business. Also my order came back with the wrong shade and then took many more months to get the right item. read more
