I have gone there for breakfast, lunch and dinner! For breakfast, they have a limited menu, but the quality and the taste of the food is very good! What I didn't like about the breakfast experience is the cup size for coffee! I think the cups are small compared to the similar businesses. For dinner they have a better menu and the food is pretty good! I have tried their special a couple of times and I enjoyed some of their dishes and appetizers! I didn't enjoy their cocktails since they seemed to be a bit homemade quality, and maybe overpriced? My good example is their old fashion which was the smallest I've even seen! The interior design and the atmosphere is great and a great place for date nights! The staff was always nice, friendly and helpful and I liked the customer service! We stayed in a cabin of the lodge three days. Therefore we had at least two breakfast and two dinner at the restaurant. For breakfast we ordered the alpine start (yogurt with homemade musli, brioche with jam) and the waffle plate. We enjoyed both of them; there were a good starting for our morning (breakfast opens at 7:30am). For dinner we tried the chicken, the meatloaf and the ribs. Everything was very good. I can't complain about the taste of the food. My only "complain" is about the small portion of every dish and how slow was the service during the dinner. The first time we ate here we waited almost 1 hour for our meal (I know there was a big group and other tables, but the service was very slow). Overall the restaurant and the place are amazing because of the view of Athabaskan river and the mountains around and they have s'more pit and other event almost every night. read more

The breakfast itself was excellent, well-prepared and served hot. The hash browns were very well-seasoned, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the croissant was awesome. This was a great choice in jasper. I had the classic old fashioned and it was good. Not my favorite, but it did hit my craving spot. As an entrance my boyfriend and I ordered the melted Brie cheese with berries on top and I have to say that was amazing. For the price I feel it could have been a bigger portion, but it definitely was very tasteful. As my main course I got the fried chicken with bacon jam and it was really good too. I feel the portion was pretty decent and the dish was really good. The restaurant is located in one of the lodges so it's basically not in downtown jasper. We booked a reservation through open table, but I feel that you could even just walk in and get a table since it's not in the downtown area. If you ever come to beautiful jasper come check this place out! read more

If you are older and are looking to find a place where you could actually wait to death, this could be the perfect place for you. We came in and waited 2 hours for our meal to even arrive. We even finished a bottle of wine prior to eating. I even think our server disappeared for no apparent reason for over 30 minutes. Not sure exactly where she went. Even when she was there she did not seem like she was focused on helping. We were told a bout this place by one of the hotels. They stated it has the best lobster that they have ever had and that we must check this place out. Well, they had a lobster roll (Sushi roll), but no lobster. We then decided to choose a couple other dishes, minus the very long wait, these dishes were underwhelming at best. Especially after the rave reviews we received from the hotel staff at Jasper resort. There are probably a lot better places to go in Jasper than this place. Stayed at Tekarra Lodge and decided to give this historic restaurant a chance. If you decide to eat here, be prepared to spend money! Not only would this place pass for an excellent fine dining restaurant in Vancouver, add the fact that it is in a National Park which usually means tourist prices. Regardless, we were very satisfied with the level of service and the entire meal. The room itself is intimate and quaint (I can only imagine how romantic it would be in the winter), and the service was disciplined and professional. Despite the formal plates, professional service, and fine dining prices, we were brought down to earth with the playful paper table cloths and crayons on the table. Each dish was expertly crafted and cooked. My only critique would be that some dishes seemed over-complicated an cluttered. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who is looking for a special meal for a special occasion. read more

I travel alone and, as a result, dine alone quite often. For me it's a joy, not an imposition. I am that much more focused on a great food experience... and generally I meet new people. I've noticed that this puts many restaurants in Canada in a fit of awkwardness. They'll try to bring newspapers, or sit and chat, or completely forget I'm there. Tekarra is one of those places that just gets it; whether you're a party of one or thirty (they had both the night I was there), it's best for all involved if you leave feeling like family. I did. I was blessed with several amazing restaurant experiences on this most recent trip to the Canadian Rockies. This one was lifetime memorable. Chef Huse greeted me at the door and made sure the server (who had stepped away for a moment) set me up with a table with a view. I was more peckish and curious than famished, so I ordered several of their small plates; serrano wrapped date, sous vide bison, scallops 'benedict,' and... dear merciful Lord... foie gras french toast. All were phenomenal, but was was even more special was the service. I watched the crew work on an *unusually* large party with coordination, skill and humor. My little party of me received just as balanced and skillful service from not just my phenomenal server, but others as they had time. Not too much, gave me space to enjoy the endorphin rush and the solitude, but enough. This is a must, must visit if you are lucky enough to find yourself in Jasper. read more

We've been meaning to go here several times but this year we finally made it. Glad we did! Hubby and I shared the baked Brie and it was fantastic..,warm gooey and delicious. If you're in Jasper and looking for a something a little different from the restaurants in town, check this place out. The restaurant has a nice, rustic feel to it, reflecting its surroundings yet also quite homely. However, homely is not exactly what you get... It was 5-star fine-dining experience. I was surprised to find such a gem out here! Service was fantastic - extremely professional yet friendly. Food was creative and delicious. We were a table of 6, so was able to try a lot on the menu. As an appetizer, the lobster roll was a hit with our group, it came highly recommended by the waiter. For entrees, there's such a huge variety of choices that it was hard to pick from. I really enjoyed "The Duck", prepared 2 ways. It was so tender and the sauce complimented it so well. The beef was cooked to perfection (medium rare came medium rare). For drinks, the wine list was extensive - we wanted to try more of the local wines, so had plenty of choices. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable with the wines, beer and food on the menu. It's a little on the expensive side, but definitely a great experience to include on your Canadian rockies vacation itinerary. Maybe deserves 4 1/4 or 4/12 starts if yelp allowed it. The atmosphere here is consciously casual with paper tablecloths and crayons on each table but this is fine dining. Service was friendly and attentive. Elk appetizer was just OK; the elk is ground and lacked flavor. The salmon trio appetizer had 3 preparations: the tempura roll was excellent, the marinated prep was moist and delicious, and the table-smoked tasted only of over-smoking. The lobster roll was to die for--strong flavors matched interesting texture. The beef tenderloin was cooked perfectly and was one of the best that I've ever had. The bread is worth a shout out--it was delicious! I would definitely return. read more

Being the last night of a superb vacation we decided to splurge and have dinner at this historic lodge situated among pines and charming bungalows. The setting is warm and rustic, and the staff made us feel welcome the moment we walked in the door. This is special occasion faire, food prepared with such care and expetise, using the best and freshest ingredients in the area. Our waiter was so helpful in selecting wines by the glass to pair with our courses. Crispy Spiny Lobster Roll, think delicately fried sushi in the Canadian Rockies. Foie Gras Profiteroles. Duck served two ways. Arctic Char. Each dish was beautifully plated and presented. There were so many locally influenced items on the menu to choose from. Too bad this wonderful gem is so far away from California. Jasper residents and visitors are very lucky to have this dining experience waiting for them. read more

First the good, which would be the food. We had the Elk Carpaccio and Bison Meatballs to start and they were both excellent. Especially the Bison with the rich and tasty sauce. For the main course we had the Bison Short Ribs which again were fantastic. Dessert was the Apple Strudel which was probably warm when prepared but cold by the time we were served the dish, which leads to the bad. Service was decent overall but nothing outstanding and we were there early and the room was near empty. The room is not fancy but it has a nice cozy feel in the setting of the forest. Even so, I'd expect a server at a nice restaurant serving higher end meals to dress nicely, but ours couldn't be bothered to go beyond yoga pants and a T-shirt, which just looked sloppy, and honestly, lazy. Maybe they need to pay the staff more or even provide uniforms. Jeans and a nice shirt or blouse would have been enough. To top it off our seat by the window had a great view of a large Buick SUV pulled up to it instead of the amazing landscape of Jasper. There is enough parking that the window seats should be kept clear. We loved the food but will take a pass next time through. read more

Everything here we had was absolutely delicious and we weren't really very hungry to begin with! We decided to share small plates and had the trout roll, bison meatballs, beet salad and mushroom/duck tart. The trout roll was light despite being fried and the smoked trout gave it a wonderful flavor. The mushroom/duck was decadent and the cherries a nice surprise to cut through the unctuous sauce. We did have to ask for bread to finish mopping up the mushroom sauce! The best and goat cheese salad had a nice sharp tang. For dessert, we ordered the cheese platter which did not disappoint as well. We loved the berry compote and the sharp horseradish mustard accompaniments. The Tekarra Restaurant is located at the Tekarra Lodge on Hwy 93A a few miles out of town. The Lodge is a series of rustic cabins dating back to the 40s and 50s and reasonably well maintained. The restaurant is very high end with a focus on food presentation of their ala carte menu with small, creative portions. My wife and I spent 4 days in Jasper and this was our first evening's dinner based upon customer reviews. It was also our most expensive evening at just under $150 including dinner (no drinks or wine), tax and tip. We started with the scallops and crab roll appetizers which were excellent. My wife ordered the beef filet which was perfectly cooked and had a delicious sauce. I debated between the venison tenderloin and the artic char. The waiter suggested the venison. I ordered it rare to medium rare knowing the venison tenderloin has almost no fat, needs to be cooked quickly and served very pink. It came medium well to well done and was a dry as shoe leather. The cinnamon based sauce was much to strong for the delicate venison flavor. We were dining at 8:30 and the restaurant was busy. My wife's filet takes longer to cook and I suspect both entrees were started together or possibly my venison sat in a warming oven way to long. We finished the evening with the crème brule for dessert which was excellent. So a very mixed review of the restaurant. Great service, small ala carte portions, very showy presentations, a very disappointing venison entrée and our most expensive evening in Jasper. We much preferred our other evening dinners while in Jasper. read more

The resturant recently changed ownership, which you wouldnt have even noticed, had the server not complained heavily about the condition of the resturant when they took over. I have been dinning at Tekarra for 10+ years, and have nothing but fond memories. I found it extremly unprofessional to speak ill of the former owner. The food was still as fabulous, and the subtle change in decor was a nice touch (such beautiful art work). However the server was better suited to work the beer tub at the local nightclub. read more

This is the best restaurant I will probably ever eat at, and I would go so far as to say it's extremely likely to be the best restaurant in the country. Save up for this one, because if you don't try every item on the menu you will regret it until you come back for more. This is truly the most luxury cuisine money can buy, and the prices are totally average steak-house level. Servers are beyond professional. There is indoor seating or a beautiful patio. Book your reservation in advance, it can get very busy. The restaurant is only open during the warmer half of the year, and it is inside the property of a lodge style hotel. You can walk out to the left of the restaurant for a gorgeous view of the river below and the surrounding mountains. The only thing wrong with this restaurant is that it isn't closer to me! It is worth the drive from Edmonton to Jasper just to eat here. The entire menu is flawless but the most exceptional items would be the Elk, the Duck, the Spiny Lobster, and the Pear Salad. read more

Let's start with the relaxed, serene atmosphere... the restaurant is the main cabin at Tekarra Lodge - small, rustic, but almost chic with a very comfortable porch for enjoying the summer evening and surrounded by the well-kept cabins, trees, river, mountains in the distance. Then there is the food...really fantastic! We had the Brussel sprouts and meatballs followed by beef skewers and chicken. We were staying at the Tekarra lodge and decided to have their breakfast buffet around $17/pp for full buffer including hot food (bacon, sausage, scramble egg, french toast) or $14/pp if you want cold items only( cereal, toast, fruit, pastry) It was such a disappointing experience. Pastry included these weird half rise muffin and overly sweet cookies. The muffin had a gummy texture and taste was lacking. There were no more jam and not much fruit left. Apparently we got there too late, and they ran out. For the price you are paying. We expected some cheese and meat slices, no luck! Now to the hot food, french toast was rock hard! It was probably sitting there for too long, and unfortunately for the late risers, we were only allowed to have rock hard french toast and not freshly made ones. Scramble egg was decent, a bit dry. Bacon was good and that was the only item they replenished. Considering the raving reviews of Tekarra dinner, we expected to be amazed or at least satisfied at their breakfast buffet. I would suggest skipping their breakfast buffet and head over to the town for better selections. read more
