We recently bought an investment property in the Sacramento area and had to do some quick landscaping to accommodate the tenants. I got a few quotes from Yelp and Jose from Tellez Landscaping came out to give us an estimate. Of all the landscaping companies I spoke to, Jose at Tellez was by far the most professional and knowledgeable. His approach was chill, not pushy at all and very generous with his time. He met me at a nearby nursery to look at some trees that we were thinking of planting - this is even before I committed to have them do the job. I really appreciated that. Jose really knows his stuff. He has a wide range of knowledge about plants and trees, how to care for them, construction etc. He told me they could complete the job in a week or so, and they were able to meet their deadline. Communicating with Jose was quick and easy. We texted back and forth without any delays in-between. He was quick to reply and answer any questions. He sent me 3-D pictures of what the job would look like before they started the work so I could decide where I wanted concrete, trees, grass etc. They took payment in installments as the project progressed. I have a couple regrets but both are things that were within my control and I could have avoided with more effort on my part - not Jose's fault. I'm not really happy with the quality and color of the artificial grass that was installed. I should have insisted on seeing the actual grass before it was installed. But since I wasn't living in the area, I settled on seeing it in a picture which isn't the same thing as seeing it in person. Also, I don't love the color or pattern of the flagstone that was laid. Again, I should have insisted on seeing more detail on the type of flagstone and how it would be laid out. My bad. Live and learn. It was an expensive venture, but they did a TON of work. They worked very hard to make the deadline and they did an excellent job. Very little to complain about, and for those reasons I would recommend them for landscaping in the area. We asked Jose and his crew to come back periodically for yard maintenance so we're happy to continue to work with them. I'll update my review in the future, and as the trees and plants mature, I'll add some pictures. read more

My wife and I wanted to landscape our back yard. Having a family run business myself I wanted to find a family run landscaping company. So I found and reached out to Tellez Landscaping. Jose set up an appointment to come take a look at our backyard. He took photos, measured, & went over some ideas with us. A few days later he got back to us with a quote and some rendered photos of what our backyard could look like. Looking at the photos we were sold on moving forward with the landscaping. Our backyard at the time looked like it was right out of the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. They completely gutted the back yard, laid an all new sprinkler/ drip system, sod, a designer wall with raised flower bed, and even fixed our daughters bridge and painted it red. I am so pleased that I went with Tellez Landscaping for my yard remodel. They were very professional and timely. Jose gave me a date of completion and he was right they finished that day. I had horrible crab grass and weeds through out my lawn area they went through ripped it all out and left some luscious sod. Landscaping work included removing all turf in the backyard, laying out new gravel paths, converting overhead irrigation to drip lines. Front yard included new flagstone and gravel path from street to front door. Backyard work was generally ok. Gravel has really settled and we'll need more soon. Had to have them rework drainage after a small flood in the storage room. Had to have them rework drainage line placement a few times throughout the project. One downspout still isn't connected to the drain line. No drainage outlets were installed and they end somewhere under the soil in the flowerbeds. The front yard path is a mess: sloping by as much as 2"-3" in places, high in a middle section of the path, cracked stones, migrating gravel, wonky bender board things going on. One person came to add a few more stakes to the bender board and lower a stone (which he had to do two more times). It just looks awful and CANNOT get them to come back to repair or replace after numerous requests. They're no longer responding to my text messages. The path has become an uneven tripping hazard and poor workmanship is evident to the untrained eye and gets worse by the week. Complaint filed with the Contractors State License Board. read more

I needed my lawn mowed but I'm not home often. I contacted them on yelp and they said they could come by on a thursday morning and mow my lawn for me. I said I wouldn't be home, but I was able to leave cash under my doormat and everything went smoothly. The reason I'm knocking off a star is the price. It seems a little expensive to charge 30 bucks to mow a small lawn, but it is what it is. read more

I hired this company for regular lawn maintenance and they were supposed to come weekly and mow, edge, hedge the bushes, fertilize the lawn and provide weed control. I have a dog so we set up for Tuesday afternoons so I could kennel the dog at lunch. I kenneled the dog three weeks in a row and they never came. When they did come they only mowed and edged the lawn and didn't do anything else. The second time they came out they only mowed the front yard and didn't even touch the back yard. I finally gave up on this company and asked Jose not to send his crew again. I could have paid a neighborhood kid half the price to half ass the job the way this company did. Take your chances if you want but as for me, I'm going to skip future hassle and find a more reliable company. This is an addition to my original post: I do want to recognize that on the first visit they did find my sons wallet with cash and return it to me, which is why I kept working with them in the first place, however, their honesty does not change the poor service I received. And the owners response that my dog was out was incorrect because he was kenneled at my lunch and the crew wasn't due to show up until 2:00. When I came home to kennel the dog, the lawn hadn't yet been touched. Perhaps the crew gave the owner incorrect information as an excuse to not complete the job. I can't know, but I do know the service I did receive was sub-par. read more

We used them for lawn maintenance for years. Started with Jose's dad. Then for several years, Jose and his crew were doing the work. They were reasonably priced and the work was on par with the price. They were responsive when things went awry. I was satisfied. Then, randomly, some new guy and crew started showing up. And they were awful - tracking dog crap and mud everywhere and leaving it to dry on the patio and sidewalks, leaving lawn clippings and leaves, not blowing clippings off the street, not cleaning up. And they told us that Tellez passed off our work to them and we had to start paying them, not Tellez. They kept bringing us our checks back and telling us to make them out to this new company, not Tellez. We were never asked, notified, anything - and Tellez stopped showing up, so I think it was legit that they passed off our account to some other company without asking us. I cancelled service - that was all just way too weird and the quality of the new people was junk. The new people kept showing up doing work and asking to be paid after I cancelled and I kept telling them I cancelled and wasn't paying them. They finally stopped coming after a few months. If Tellez actually does your work, the quality will be decent. But, based on our experience, you have no idea who you are going to get. read more

I contacted Tellez Landscaping last week. I was remodeling my front landscape and the electrician that I hired to install wired lighting, after a full week, had not finished the job. Problem was that my cement curbing was going to be installed the next day and the lighting needed to be complete and the wires buried. Frantic, I started calling a few landscape companies, but had no luck reaching anyone until I called Tellez. Jose answered the phone and I explained that this was kind of an emergency for me. We had Tellez Landscaping completely redo our front yard and we could not be happier with how it turned out. The yard needed quite a bit of work to begin with and Jose and his team worked quickly and efficiently to clean everything out and then lay down a couple dry creek beds, new flower beds, some decomposed granite for a flat surface, and turf. I wish I could give 10 stars! We hired Tellez Landscaping to do a major project in our backyard. It was so unsightly back there, that we stopped going outside. Jose came out and took measurements and photos. After we made several adjustments, and Jose had to change the estimate 3 times, we finally settled on what we wanted. A week or so later, they started the job. The crew were amazing! So nice, and they worked their back sides off in the yard. They prepped the ground for concrete, then laid the concrete, put up a beautiful retaining wall, chopped out the stump of what was a huge oak tree, laid lava rock, planted palms, made us a gate, assembled a fountain...on and on. Some things they did for no charge, like assembling the mentioned, very heavy concrete fountain. Their work was meticulous and so well done! Their price was great too! We are having them put up new fencing for us too. We will not go anywhere else for any work that we need done on our yard. This is also a family owned and operated company, which I love! Jose is super awesome! Very nice guy, easy to talk too and responds quickly. He came out to give a quote after a week or so, and was able to come out and start working on my lawn within a week. We just need someone to mow this garbage dead yard and blow away the leaves, but it was impossible to find anyone to service here in Roseville. Our yard is super big and and super ugly. Jose didn't care. He did an amazing job and even more than what i asked of him. His guys were very professional, quick, and courteous.
