This place is amazing! Our waitress was very friendly greeting me and my pup and made him feel very welcomed by bringing him out a clean water bowl as soon as we picked a table on their dog-friendly patio (with Pup Menus on each table!). The patio faces one of the main streets so there was lots of good people watching. I ordered a beer flight and was very satisfied with all four of my selections: Prickly Pear Kolsch - it was creamy and easy to drink, bursting with prickly pear flavor; just the right amount of tart and sweet. Lightly Buzzed Honey Lavender Blonde - my favorite of the flight; it was very hoppy but light and refreshing and well balanced by intense lavender flavor and a smooth honey finish. Get it! You won't regret it. High Five Hefe - lighter/less hazy and more hoppy than most hefes it made for a unique and complimentary beer on my flight. Pommeroys Citra Pale Ale - a perfect West Coast IPA. To eat, my pup got the Lucky Dog hamburger (which the chef pre-cut) and loved it! He chowed down in less than a minute. And I got the Mac & Cheese Burger (sub a veggie patty) with the Garlic Fries. It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. I was in the mood for a good burger and we had heard great things about Temperate Habits, so we tried them on a Thursday evening during the prime dinner hour. Our server was Rainey, she was awesome, very attentive, and came to our table right away to take our order. The atmosphere at Temperate Habits is very nice, there is outside seating but we sat inside due to the bright evening sun. Our meals took quite a while to arrive, I think we were at the tail end of the dinner rush and my guess is they have a small kitchen. My classic cheeseburger was about the most generic, predictable, and utterly boring burger I could imagine, and for $17 I would certainly not return for that or the mundane shoestring fries. The burger patty, bun, and fries were all non creative and the there was nothing even the slightest bit unique about my burger, in fact I swear it is the exact same burger that the Skagit River Brewery serves just around the corner. The surprise entree was the Crab and Lobster Tots, now whoever thought that would be good? The plate looked very strange to say the least but I have to say.... this dish was really good! So you'd think if they could create that total mayhem of a dish that they could get far more creative with the burgers and least have a house burger sauce or a higher quality bun for $17, something? I might return to Temperate Habits to have a drink with friends and share some tots, because they give you a large enough portion for four people, but I would certainly look elsewhere for a good burger. 5 stars for atmosphere and service, 1 star for the burger, 4 stars for the tots. read more

Temperate Habits is one of my top choices in MV when I'm craving good food and a good beer. And now that they've got their brewery operation full up and running, it's a good spot for both. Not just a brewery, women-owned TH is also a taphouse featuring an assortment of tasty local and regional beers, wines, seltzers, and ciders. You'll find anything from their own house-brewed beers to local favorite breweries from around Washington State. I like going here with The Dude, because they've always got at least a couple of good IPAs on tap for him, as well as more mild choices for those of us who aren't as into over-the-top hoppiness. What sets Temperate Habits apart, though, is their excellent menu. From quirky options (like their famous mac 'n cheese burger) to more traditional offerings (like my favorite, the caesar salad with salmon), there's something here to fit most tastes, and most budgets. We love going here for lunch, grabbing a couple of pints, and splitting one of their tasty cheeseburgers. I'm also a fan of their appetizer brussel sprouts, made (of course) with Skagit Valley's finest. They do have an outdoor patio, which is a good place for people watching (but can get kind of loud as it's right on the street). Going solo? We went on a weekday afternoon and there were only 10 customers. There was one waitress who was running around between the 4 tables herself. I felt quite bad for her. We ordered a burger and a Cobb salad. Out the door before tip was about $45 which was about $20 too much. The bbq burger had a tiny drizle of sauce, coarsely cut red onion (yuck), thin patty that is advertised to be 6 ounces which is questionable but it did taste like beef and not the Sisco foods patties augmented with soy. Thin forgetful fries come with the burger. The Cobb salad was missing the hard boiled egg and blue cheese that was a bit too funky to be still fresh. We had to pay extra for a tiny amount of overcooked chicken with it. The salad was portioned more like an appetizer than a main dish. Overall the place was sticky, probably hasn't had a good scrub or menial clean since the day before they opened. But it is what it is for Mount Vernon food scene, a place full of potential but no one tries very hard to make it brilliant. It seems the entire population in the state of Washington has collectively agreed to just overpay for mediocre food and service which lulls these food establishments to never improve or be good. Every time we eat out around these parts, it reinforces the explanation why there are so many obese and unhealthy people about. I didn't take any photos as the food wasn't worth the effort to photograph. . . . I got to tell you we pulled up and the place looked amazing from outside. And guess what we walked in and the place was really comfortable they had a little heat log going on. The staff is amazing they greet you with smiles and they are very invited you definitely will feel welcomed in this place. The Hot Mule wine was definitely needed today because it's been very cool outside and not Texas cool. I ordered the grown up grilled cheese with coleslaw. Hello my server made me laugh as if I was making a mistake to order the regular grilled cheese so I went to the grown up grilled cheese. The Bacon is REAL. Came here around 2:30 in a Monday after visiting Roozengaarde tulips. It wasn't very busy, but there was only one server. She was very attentive and quick for only being one person to do everything that day. The food we got was yummy but nothing taste wise stood out as unique to this place compared to other brewery type places. I will say the food came out pretty quickly and the side tots were very large and a good deal. The salad was on the smaller side, but still delicious. We stopped here for lunch on our way to see the tulips on a sunny Sunday. The restaurant was lively, but not crowded or rowdy, and it seemed well-staffed enough for everything to run smoothly. We had sliders, cheeseburger, and brussels sprouts. They were perfectly fine pub-level food, and we enjoyed ourselves. The meat could have used some more seasons, and the fries a little less salt. The brussels sprouts were cooked well, but there was a pool of liquid (which was a combination of thin maple syrup and...oil?) that we found a bit confusing and mildly off putting until we realized it was syrup. Overall we had a nice time, and would probably stop here again. They have two high chairs, one for regular tables, and one for...high tops!! We've never seen a hightop high chair before, and it was fun to be able to sit at a hightop with our little one. No changing table in the bathrooms, but there was space to do so. read more

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 5:05pm. Not too busy. The sign says "Please seat yourself". We chose a table and waited to be greeted. After a few minutes I walked up to the bar and said, "sorry, we've never been here before, do we order here or...." The girl behind the bar said, "I'm headed your way in just a second." My husband, son and myself ordered burgers. I removed the poor lettuce leaves because they had already wilted under the burger patty. All 3 burgers had No seasoning on them. It was disappointing. The only time our server checked on us was when I had my card out to pay. No water refills. Just empty cups. No checking in to see how everything was. When you first walk in it feels so cozy. The fireplace, comfy chairs and windows everywhere feel very inviting. Our server was super helpful without being constantly around. She refilled our drinks without us flagging her down and made sure we had everything we needed. The food... There were about 6 things that we really wanted to try but we narrowed it down to 2 and I added garlic tots at the last minute. Buffalo Chicken Grilled Cheese: surprisingly didn't have a lot of cheese but it was very good! It had spice but didn't kill your mouth. Mac and Cheese Burger: honestly the Mac and cheese was super bland but very creamy. The burger and bacon were incredible and with the mac and cheese was still incredible but I personally wouldn't order the Mac and cheese alone. Garlic Tater Tots: these were a last minute addition and I'm so glad we did! They were just the right amount of garlic without being overwhelming and the tater tots were crispy. I learned about Temperate Habits while looking for women-owned breweries. The location has a great wall score. The menu items are enough to make a group happy. Since I'm not into IPA's sometimes it's a challenge to choose a beer that I like, but there's always one on tap for me. The seating can feel a bit tight - and privacy for conversations doesn't exist. On our way back to Seattle from Cascades National Park, we wanted to stop in a cute town and explore. We stumbled upon Temperate Habits and we were not disappointed. Everything we had was amazing. We started with the Muscles, Buffalo Cauliflower and Caprese Salad and everything was great. The Salad was small but hit the spot. After that we ordered the BBQ wings (cooked perfectly - saucy and crispy), fish and chips (amazing. The coleslaw was also great), the mac and cheese burger and the Mac and cheese grilled cheese which were both to die for. I am a local. First, it's worth pointing out that tiny Skagit Valley has a boatload of Breweries within 30 minutes. Not to mention how much malt is grown here. This is serious beer country and it shows in the quality we have around these parts. With all that said, Temperate Habits is my favorite brewery in the area - Bellingham included. Why? Because all their beers are solid, they aren't afraid to experiment, and they always carry a great selection of other breweries beers - simply because these people love beer! Their staff is consistently warm - even when they are overloaded. The owners are willing to do all the jobs and seem genuinely helpful to the rest of the staff. It's fun to watch them brew (right in the middle of the pub!) and they are totally nerds - like in the best way a Pacific Northwest person can be a nerd. You can tell they're into chemistry and the science of their craft. It just so happens that their food is top-notch, they are accommodating of allergies, etc, and they care that you enjoy your whole experience. Give them a try! Temperate Habits offers a couple of their own craft beer, while showcasing several other local breweries craft beers. Indoors is welcoming and cozy. Table service is offered. Families are welcome. Menu items are fun. I slurped on a Reubens Cancer Crush Hazy IPA for $4.60 (hh) and my wife slurped on a Skookum Amber's Hot Friend for $4.60 (hh). My wife and I shared the Mac & Cheese Grilled Cheese Sandwich for $11: Mac & Cheese, bacon, cheddar and Gouda. Sinfully delicious! Service was friendly. It's just okay. For one when we went here they didn't have much of their own beer on tap but they did have lots of guest taps. The only beer of their own was an IPA which wasn't bad at all. Atmosphere here is cozy and cute and is situated right in downtown Mt. Vernon so the location is convenient and you can do some brewery hopping as there are a couple other breweries not far and can be walked to. read more

Just happened upon this place after a morning visiting the tulip fields and in desperate need of a bite. We got there around 1:15 on a Saturday and it was pretty full but they were able to give us a table for 5 right away. From the time we sat down to the time we got our food it was about an hour and fifteen minutes, which I think is pretty absurd despite the fact that it was so busy. Waitresses were all very nice but service was just extremely slow. I ordered the pulled pork burger ($14) and sweet potato fries ($4). It was very overpriced given how small the burger is. If you're gonna charge $14 for a burger it should be decently hefty or at least come with fries. It tasted fine, probably tasted better than it actually was just bc I was so hungry. read more

Brought home a poutine burger for the girlfriend's son, he ate it so fast that I couldn't really get more than a grunt on if it was good. He loved it. Before trying to make it to Tulip Town at the end of our visit to Mt. Vernon decided to try one more brewery. This one had more of an upscale vibe in the decor and perhaps because it is on one of the main streets in town. Dog friendly patio and super friendly staff brought a water bowl for the furry friends. Decided on another hazy here, which quite honestly tasted like all the hazy's I had previously this day. Missing the breweries of my former residence in Monterey, CA, but...c'est la vie...when in Mt. Vernon, WA, lol...still, not unhappy at all here. Fun vibes, good beer and the salad was delish. What really set this location apart for me was the service though. It is so refreshing to be treated so nicely when the town is obviously being bombarded with people going to see nearby tulips. The salad was also a treat with fresh greens, candied walnuts, cheese and dressing I could drink. The dressing was similar to a honey mustard, but not as tangy and a buttery creaminess. So good. It was fun to sit on the patio outside and people watch. and car watch. Would come here again for food. The menu had some favorites such as brussel sprouts with bacon, chicken wings (lol), and more.
