I've been wanting to check out Garden Path Fermentation for the last few months. Finally made a pit stop in Skagit on the way to Seattle. They're located close to the Burlington airport; look for the wooden chair with a "beer here" sign. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon (around 1:30pm). They've got a cute patio outside along with two communal style tables and bar seats inside. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Go up to the bar to order your drinks. The beers consisted of 9 Garden Path flavours, two meads and several guest beers/ciders/wines. They don't do flights, which is disappointing and none of their fruit flavoured beers were available to sample. They have a MASSIVE variety of rare, unique beers along with some interesting cider and wines. Beer bottles from Jester King, Atwood Ales, The Ale Apothecary and Crooked Stave, to name a few. From Canada, they even had two bottles from Dieu du Ciel. Majority are from the States but they had some beers from Australia, Estonia and Europe (Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, France and Italy). They also have a couple board games and funny enough, they had these mystery/surprise beer bags for sale. Not sure how much they were though. - The easygoing drink ($3.00 US for 5oz) - lightly tart ale fermented in a foudre and finished in stainless steel. This was our favourite from the three we sampled. - Amber dreams of electric sheep ($3.00 US for 5oz) - foudre-fermented, oak matured, malt-accented and native yeast amber ale. Definitely was malty. - The prime barrel age ($3.50 US for 5oz) - blend of mature barrel-aged beers. This one didn't leave much of an impression on either one of us. Garden Path's beers are different, catering more to funky than sour. If you're a beer geek, this should be a must visit. 3.5 stars. read more

Good variety of craft beer, mead, and cider. Fun store with lots of bottles and a nice outdoor atmosphere with fires at each table. There are no flights but 5oz pours range from 3 to 6 bucks so you can make you're own. Enjoyed the amber ale and the raspberry sour but the light beer and the mead were very weak and tasted almost watered down. One bottle of the raspberry sour is $25 each which needless to say is excessive. There are no price tags on the bottle or shelf, only once you scan to pay. 3.5 stars overall. read more

A very highly specialized brewery with a very broad focus, way out in the fields of Skagit County. They're highly specialized because they don't use predictable, traditional methods to make ordinary beers--but their focus is broad because they intend eventually to make cider, wine, sake, and many kinds of beer before they're done. What they have now is a big barrelhouse and blending program, producing fruited and often sweet beers from Skagit Valley ingredients (and yeasts). They also have a great bottleshop and taproom, featuring a dozen of their own beers and a dozen guest taps. The staff here are super nice, and prices are right on. I really enjoy many of their beers, and so appreciate that we have such a dedicated place focusing on things not everyone else is doing. read more

Opened in April with guest beer and wine. Began offering their own brews in July. Really nice spot. Friendly, cozy, dog friendly with sunset views. Watch what's going on in the brew lab while you sip. Lots of beers and meads to try in multiple sizes. Also lots of wines. Tours of the lab available on weekends. Nice location easy off the 20 feels super rural and along the airport walking/running trails. Come learn about what this new brewery is doing using Skagit product to craft their beers and meads. They encourage bringing your own food to accompany your sipping. A real win. read more

Today we stopped in for a drink at Garden Path Fermentation. It was an excellent experience. First of all, they've got the COVID protocols down! Sanitizing tables in between customers, tables outside at least 10-12 feet apart, hand sanitizer by the front door and the employees are all wearing masks! Bravo. I had two 5 oz beers that were both pretty tasty. My wife had the mulled cider, which she liked as well. The outdoor tables have gas fire features, to take off the January chill. Not a bad brewery! However I think the beers that I sampled and had were not quite up my alley. After looking at their Untappd list of beers there looks like there are selections that I would have enjoyed more but did not see them on tap when I went there at the time. For example I think I would have really liked the Experimental Beer with Burnt Honey but that was a beer option that I did not see. Garden Path Fermentation has several meads that you can get which adds a unique angle to this brewery as opposed to others. You just don't see meads around all that much which should make this place something to seek out if you are into that. After the tasting I had a pint of The Easygoing Drink which was a Grisette beer which wasn't bad but again... just not quite something that really got me excited. This brewery is located by the Burlington airport. There are two other breweries or satellite locations that are brewery themed in this same area, Chuckanut is one and the other is Flyers so you can try a bunch of different kinds of beers all within a relatively short distance. The location for Garden Path Fermentation isn't a bad one and the taproom is fairly large but this place seems very popular so it was filled up due to that. read more

Garden Path Fermentation (AKA Racists). We are local professionals that have been big supporters of Garden Path in the past including through COVID. We have even gone so far as to share their beers with friends from out-of-state and gift them beers from our travels. When our friends from Sarasota, FL came to visit us we were excited to take them to Garden Path. After a full day of hiking Lake Diablo Trail we hurried to Garden Path to enjoy a cold beer before they closed at 7:00pm on 07/29. Upon entering everything seemed fine as we spoke with both owners and we each ordered one beer. Before finishing our first beer the bartender came over with some waters and informed us he would not serve us anymore because we were clearly intoxicated. We explained that it was our first beer and was asked "if we had anything to eat that day". This was especially offensive since one in the party has type 1 diabetes and has to monitor his sugar constantly. The only difference between this visit and over 50 other visits is this time we arrived with two Latinas. After thinking more about the visit and what happened we can only assume that the decision was based solely on the fact all customers and staff, including the owners, are white and they obviously prefer to not serve "non-white" customers. We are very let down by this behavior and obviously will not return where ALL are not welcome. There are plenty of other breweries here in WA that welcome ALL people but this place is not one of them. #LatinasLivesMatter read more

We stopped in on a Friday afternoon after checking out the area daffodils and tulips. The beer was fantastic, the dry table mead was truly exceptional. Having not done enough research before heading out, we didn't realize that their beer is made using native yeasts and mostly other Skagit valley ingredients. Because it isn't commercial yeast the beer is a bit different -- but it's also not in the same category as a sour beer. They had several beers in the 6% or less category that also have flavor, which we always appreciate. They do 5/10/16 oz pours which is great for trying a few different beers. We were lucky to be in there when a bunch of other brewers showed up so we tagged along for the tour. read more

This was scrubbed from Yelp a couple of months ago, so I'm re-posting: We walked in and across the room to the bar where a young lady behind the counter answered our questions and pointed three of us towards a particular type of drink that seemed appropriate for our taste. Then she noticed that my wife didn't have her mask on above her nose and so she said "I need you to put your mask up above your nose". My wife answered that she can't (she has Mask-Induced Anxiety and it's Real, so are the Panic Attacks) but she did pull her mask up and over, but out away, from her nose, simulating a face shield that people use all the time. At that point the young lady said in a condescending tone that one might use when speaking to a child; "c'mon you can do it". At that point the young bartender noticed that one person in our group started to taste the drink that was served to him and it seemed as though she practically fell over the bar trying to stop him saying "you can't drink in here unless you show your vaccination card!" We were all shocked. There was no sign at the entryway saying this! The bartender said; "you can go outside but unless you show your vaccination cards you may not drink inside". At that point, my wife and her friend quietly walked out with their drinks. I then asked the bartender, "what if I'm naturally vaccinated" (meaning that I have the antibodies because I had Covid). The young girl then said "I don't even know what that means". "I'm getting very uncomfortable". As if our presence is somehow a threat. . Then I simply said "well you asked me if I had a vaccination card and that makes me uncomfortable too". "So, since you brought it up, I'm asking you for your rules in the form of a question back to you." The bartender then ignored my response and asked if I would like something to drink. I told her that I would just go outside and help my wife drink hers. Bottom line is this establishment is segregating unvaccinated people to the outside area that I will now call "the back of the bus". There is no law requiring them to do that (Not that a law would make it right). The constant drumbeat of fear and negativity from the government and media has created an hysteria over Covid and has turned people to do things that they themselves would have stood against and never have done just two years ago. It's both sad and maddening that people refuse to be understanding and consider that there are many people and varying situations. If "we're all in this together" then let's start trusting each other and respecting one another's personal choices and unique situations that you just cannot make rules for. In the mean-time, there are 4 people who refuse to be identified and treated like lower class citizens. Because in reality, there is no such thing. We are ALL equal. Therefore, we will Never go back to this rude and discriminatory establishment. read more

A microbrewery near the airport in Burlington. They have a number of interesting brews on tap, and a large selection of bottled brews and wines to choose from. I had an English IPA (The Old School The New) that I enjoyed. The staff was friendly and helpful with describing what the beers were like. I'll be back to taste some more. read more

Stopped in the Brewery on Saturday afternoon as a pit stop on the way north from Seattle. The Brewhouse was nice with a great selection of wines and beers. We had a few beers and mead. The brews were fantastic, and the process of truly using local ingredients was inspiring. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. We even received a tour from the owner, Ron, who was incredibly passionate about his business. We were up in Bellingham for the weekend and multiple people had recommended this brewery. We were met with great hospitality, an extremely welcoming environment, gender neutral bathrooms!!
