Chuckanut Brewery(South Nut) is easily a top 5 brewery in Washington. Their beer is amazing and extremely well crafted. I have NEVER been disappointed in any selection I have tried, and I have tried several. Very chill taproom and great outside area to sit. The staff is always very friendly and willing to guide you through the beer menu. They do not serve food, or have food trucks but do not mind if you bring outside food. A German style brewery by the airport, which is an out of the way location. Had a cute dog that wanted to play ball and friendly staff. There wasn't much to do once you get your beers but drink and chat. They did have a giant connect four and possibly a Jenga game a few outside benches. We got a flight of beer, the standout was the IPA. We tried a very interesting beer called Grodziskie lager, described as a light pale, subtle smoke, 3% alcohol content. It had a strong smoke flavor - like you strained your beer through burnt garbage. all in all we had a good time. read more

Came here after a run and the weather was just perfect, warm and sunny spring day!! Had the visiting rotating tap and it was delicious. The space is quite large and so much outdoor seating and indoor seating. It's located in the Port of Skagit area near the airport, the area is just lovely! We stopped here after a day of hiking. The location is a bit out of the way but worth the few miles extra to get there. the selection of beer was ample and all that our group tried were enjoyed. the service is strictly "order at the bar." But that was fine for a place such as this. The ambiance is cozy. There were a lot of folks playing board games and such. read more

This is hard to say, but it has to be done. There is nothing wrong with the brewery, the beer is awesome. Always awesome. The Octoberfest was a huge disappointment. Our beers were warm, and that's like the bread and butter there. If the beers were cold, I'd have just written it off. But warm? Now, not the brewery's fault but our sausages were cold in the middle and the buns were colder. Kids running around the place, not being controlled by their parents.... just a disappointment. I love your beer, but I left so depressed. You need more seating if you are gonna do an event as well. read more

This is our mandatory pit stop place every time we are back from a hike in the area. Lovely brewery with a great selection of beer on tap. My fav is the Vienna Lager (nice and crisp) and their Hefeweizen. They have a good selection of beers and we also end up taking a few pints with us home. They have a cute heated patio where you can have your pets accompany you. Inside the brewery they have a few tables for folks to be seated. We usually love to be seated by their patio and catch the gorgeous sunset from this establishment. Highly recommend and I will continue to come there month after month. read more

True confession, I've always been partial to wheat beers, particularly Hefeweizens. But today I had the most splendid Vienna lager at Chuckanut! Their hef uses the Galaxy hop and has fabulous flavor, but the true winner for me was that Amber hued Vienna lager. With a malty flavor that carries an undertone of toffee, the Vienna ends nice and crisp for a not too heavy, not too light beer. A homey, unpretentious and relaxed atmosphere awaits you at their South Nut location. Space heaters & a dog friendly outdoor space accompany await for those that prefer to bring a furry friend. It's been a while that I've been to Chuckanut. I have been to the location in Bellingham once before but I haven't ever been to the South Nut location before. The taproom here is nice and spacious and is in Burlington which isn't quite as busy traffic wise compared to the location in Bellingham. I like that more relaxed aspect. I got two different beers here which I liked pretty well. I got an Asian Lager and I believe a lager that was Polish inspired. Both were unique and fun to drink. I enjoyed my experience at Chuckanut a bit more compared to my first visit. Perhaps it was because of the slower pace I liked and the taproom setup better but I did notice that the beer seemed to have improved as well. I didn't dislike my first Chuckanut experience but there were other breweries on the Bellingham trip that I liked better. Either it's location oriented with different beer options or as time has passed more intriguing beer options surfaced that made me enjoy my visit more than the first time in Bellingham. South Nut is the long-awaited Skagit County edition of Bellingham's legendary Chuckanut Brewery. Located quite a bit off the beaten bath, in the Skagit Regional Airport complex, South Nut is a small tasting room attached to a larger brewing facility. The room has an eclectic, colorful vibe, and offers 9 taps plus some light snacks. On a recent visit I enjoyed one of my faves, their Alt Bier, with its complex maltiness and rich flavor. Served up with a pint of yummy pretzels and tasty mustard, it was a perfect antidote to a gloomy Sunday afternoon. While the brewing facility is not yet fully up and running, there's a nice view of it through windows from the tasting room. It doesn't look like they have plans to open a full kitchen here, which is a bummer considering the yummy offerings at their flagship location to the north. I've heard they have food trucks from time to time, but there weren't any here on our recent visit. But...yay pretzels! read more

Not really impressed. After visiting perhaps too many breweries and tap rooms lately, I know that there are many better options in the area. The beer selection was average. I tried talking with the bartender about the beers and it was like I was trying to extract teeth. All I wanted to do was get some details or a recommendation on the beers, but he couldn't be bothered. Not to mention that there was nobody else waiting for service, he just didn't want to tell me anything about the beers. Next the food selection... below average, some crackers and pepperoni, priced like airline food. Reviewing as a tap room, which it is, not a brew pub or restaurant, which it isn't. Not the biggest selection of beers, but all of them I tried where very good. Had a flight of Kölsch, Maibock, Dunkel, and Vienna Lager to decide which to order. Didn't help - they are all very good. Went with the Vienna which is excellent. Alright y'all we gotta talk about the Mac and cheese that is being created here. This is some next level bidness.. its like your granny is in the back with some good chedder and a bottle of beer thrown in just the way we like it. For realz excellent. The tuna poke is good too, Light and flavorful. The beer cheese and pretzels are exactly as awesome as you would expect after reading about the Mac and cheese. Keep in mind this is just the food. The main event is the beer! We ordered the flight of ten and they were outstanding!! This place deserves all those awards! Can't figure out if she's trying to not give you a full glass. Then I saw her do a flight poured them perfect. Didn't fill them all the way however. Stumbled in here on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The place was empty. The girl working behind the bar was nice, we could tell she was pretty bored. We tried a few samples of their beer. They only had 1 dry cider available which was not great. I ended up getting the British IPA and my boyfriend had the Dunkel Lager. The beer was pretty good but not super cold. The atmosphere was a bit uncomfortable and we were the only people there. Seemed weird that a brewery doesn't offer food except for Costco snacks? The girl said that they used to have food trucks come but that the trucks stopped showing up?? The location is not the best being near the airport and down a few backroads. Stepping into Chuckanut I could already tell this was going to be an amazing experience. The bartender greeted us with a big smile and was excellent at picking a beer that catered to our tastes. It's a small place, intimate and cozy, away from the chaos of the city and hubub of life. It was an escape to a comfortable bar stool. And the beer, oh my god THE BEER! The food tasted very bad, we also found grey hairs in our burgers which was an immediate sign to stop eating the food
