This spot was recommended to us for Christmas dinner. We made a 3:00 reservation and we're eager to our holiday dinner. There was a nice, covered, outdoor dining room with red table clothes and interior seating, as well. It was lovely for the day. We sat in the outdoor dining room. We ordered antipasti - vegetale, prosciutto melone, ravioli, mixed grilled meat and mixed grilled fish and tiramisu and panna cotta for dessert. The antipasti was all great. We loved the roasted vegetables and the melon was sweet and prosciutto salty in a perfect way. The raves were so good, we didn't get a good photo of them, they were eaten too quickly. The meat and fish in our meals were not trimmed, as they are in the states, but still very tasty - buttery grilled seafood and perfect a jus with roasted meat. The pork had tender meat, that needed to be pulled off the bone and prawns cooked while with heads and tentacles. If you can get past that, it's fabulous! Pasta pasta pasta! It's crazy how back home in the US I rarely eat pasta, but in Italy boy was that a different story. While I was in Italy I was on the hunt for the best most delicious pasta there is. I tried multiple places across Rome, even in Trastevere, where it is revered as the best area. My overall favorite from all the places I've tried, was Tempio di Mecenate. The sauce was delicious, well balanced, and fresh. Trust me I've tried a ridiculous amount of places while in Rome, and the pasta here was out of this world. The prices are reasonably priced and a liter of wine is only ten euros which is a bargain. The only reason why four out of five stars, is because the service can lack on occasions and wish it was better. Despite this, your meal is always worth it! Enjoy my fellow pasta lovers. read more

During my trip to Rome, I made a new friend who was traveling solo, and we decided to get some dinner and experience the traditional Italian way of eating dinner since we already ate pizza that day. One of the most frustrating experiences in Rome is finding a good value restaurant that is not expensive and serves good quality food. We walked around, and decided to eat here mainly because we wanted eat dinner badly. We ordered the following: Spaghetti alla Carbonara - A quintessential Roman Italian dish. €8.50. Lombatta di Vitella - I decided to get some veal. This is a T-Bone pork chop. €13.50. Ravioli - My friend really wanted to order this dish. €9. Vitello Tonnato - Veal doused in tuna sauce. My friend decided to get this. €12.50. The spaghetti was really good, almost "al dente" style pasta. I really liked the creaminess of the sauce, giving the pasta a nice flavour. The veal steak was freshly cooked, and very tender. It was probably one of the most tender pork dishes I have eaten. My friend enjoyed the Ravioli and I thought it was not bad after eating a piece. The tomato sauce was good and I liked the softness of the pasta. The Veal in Tuna sauce was tender, and tasty, but the presentation looked very unimpressive. The staff does not seem to know English, so we had to point to which dish we wanted and pronounce the proper Italian words to them. The location is decent, it's near the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele station of the Rome Metro. The interior is nice, the setting is good for a dinner appointment. Overall, my new friend and I had a tasty Italian dinner, and we were very satisfied, but it was fairly expensive. The main reason I am giving this place a good rating is because I thought the food was actually tasty and the service was actually effective. It's not a bad choice to get some food, but I may not come back here again if I am on a really tight budget. read more

The Indian guy was a rude but I doubt they care about their Yelp ratings to even bother reprimanding him. He stated that I needed to sit at a single person table. I reached for a seat and he said no and pushed the table to create a 6 seat table. Like really dude? Who the eff else is in her right now? Off to a bad start but... Food was subpar at best. Pizza was not very tasty- almost rubbery cheese. The only good thing was the vegetables. Also, some of the worst service I've ever experienced. The man (I assume the owner) practically bartered with us. We were a party of 6 and came pretty late; about 12. Just flew into Rome a few hours before, so the time difference still affected us and therefore, we weren't very hungry. We tried to order a pasta and a pizza (along with 2 appetizers and a bottle of wine). The man refused to accept we only wanted two main dishes and kept saying "ok so 2 pizza, 3 pasta" and we replied "no, no. 1 pizza, 1 pasta". This went on for a few minutes. He seemed to exploit us because we were American/the language barrier. He even got angry at us for trying to order only 2 meals. Extremely frustrating. The bill was about 75 €. We were not served with any spoons. How do we eat the Risotto well with just a fork and knife? Tried to get attention of the waiter but none caught our eye. All in all, we asked for our spoons THRICE and it didn't arrive in the end. 5. It's getting late and we wanted to get the bill. Waiter that served us so far seems very busy, and we still couldn't get his attention. Raised my hand again, and he came over (finally). Me: "Hi, can we get the bill please?" Waiter: "Where are you from?" (I thought he wanted to strike a conversation and so I replied enthusiastically.) Waiter mutters 'asian culture...' And he started going on about how people do not raise their hands to call for the waiter in Italy and whole of Europe and that waiters are trained to notice the needs of each table. So while being told off (not in a loud way, but still very unpleasant), I was so appalled by his lack of awareness because our table has been repeatedly ignored up till we raised our hands. And even so, our request weren't met. He gave the bill to us, no smiles, no gracias, nothing. I grabbed the bill and walked into the restaurant to make the payment, instead of waiting at our table and having to play psychic eye games with that waiter to get his attention. Was still charged 1.50 euros x 3 for service charge (what service?! Lol) and for the miserable food. Worst money spent ever. I would never recommend any tourists or anyone to patronize this place. We came upon this restaurant after discovering that the restaurant that we wanted to go to was closed because it is August and half of the restaurants in Rome closes for holiday. It was very busy but we managed to snag an outdoor table. We order the pizza speck which seems to be prosciutto pizza. The pizza was good, true Italian (thin crust and light on pizza sauce), and came out quickly. We also ordered the fettuccine with porcine mushroom and omgosh it was delicious! The pasta is fresh and handmade and the mushrooms were cooked to just the right amount of tenderness. The house red wine for 4.5 euros for the carafe was just fine. It was a great meal in rome sitting outside for 26 euros and 5 minutes from our b&b and train station. Go try it! read more

Waiter did not attend to us even though we constantly tried to get his attention. Even after getting his attention, he did not attend to us. We refused the bread for at least 3 times and he only took it back rudely after we finished our meal and told us off for wasting the bread. Terrible service. The elderly man, however, is wonderfully friendly but did not attend to the outside tables. The food was also terrible. The vongole was weirdly sticky and the pasta had a strange texture. Warning to solo eaters! They add €1.50 for eating alone for some reason! Like serving a single person is harder? My server was an elder guy (they were all pretty older) who was incredibly rude. He barely brought me bread. I had to ask for he olive oil and balsamic vinegar. And I didn't dare ask for paramsan for my gnocchi because I didn't want to make him even surlier. The food was fine, but could have gotten it anywhere else. The waiter brought me them wrong drink. I didn't notice it was different until after and then politely asked about it and he got way defensive. And threw down money saying he would pay for it. What is happening?! I said, that's not what I asked for, I asked for the cheaper drink because I need subway money for tomorrow! I ordered chicken with pepperoni and cheese not sure how they call it on there menu but I made sure it was gluten free and when my meal came out it was plain chicken with a side of potatoes which was another option on the menu and certainly not what I ordered. The meal was very simple and you can't really go wrong it was only 12 euro and my hubby got a pizza which was decent and very thin crust the liter house wine was 9 euro which is great but there is A 3 euro per person fee which was no where on he menu or mentioned and that's he highest we have seen anywhere!!!! My worst experience in Rome. The waiter was extremely rude. As soon he took our order he advised that a 10% tip is required. In addition, there is a service charge of $1.50 euro per person (we had 4 people). He took very long to bring out the food and it was all terrible. Our meal was like 40 Euros but we had to pay 6 euros for service and 4 euros for demanded tip (10 euros total). Who the heck demands a tip? I would of tipped anyways but was completely turned off by how shady the waiter is. And I'm pretty sure he lied about the additional tip on top of the service charge. Great place to relax and eat. Many locals there for Tuesday afternoon lunch. We had bruschetta and antipasto as an appetizer. My father ordered a gun and tonic and I ordered a gun lemon as appetizer drinks. Well mixed and strong. I had the pasta, shrimp, zucchini with cherry tomatoes. It was very good. It can be very difficult to find decent, reasonably priced Italian food in this neighborhood, because it's near the train station and so the area is filled with overpriced tourist-traps. The food here is authentic and one positive sign is that many of the locals eat here. We had terrific service, but to be fair a friend who was with us is a regular customer, and he knows the wait-staff very well, so maybe we were treated with greater care than is typical. We all had different pizzas and we were all totally satisfied. The ambience outdoors is very pleasant, since you sit right next to the Tempio that gives the restaurant its name. They're near a main road (Via Merulana) yet they're far enough away that noise isn't a huge problem. read more

I'm on my first trip to Rome (and Italy, for that matter), and in just 5 days we've eaten here 3 times. The prices are spot on with other trattorias we've been to on this trip, but the food is twice as good. We haven't had any issues with the staff not understanding English, and the menus are written in both languages, so there isn't really a problem ordering. My wife and son downed the clams and mussels twice, and although the pizza was good, what really shines is the pasta. Like the last reviewer said, they cook it perfectly al dente so that there's just a hint of under-doneness almost, but it also means that it will cook up to a perfect texture as you wait for it to cool off to eat. The Spaghetti alla Amatriciana is a dish of wonder - it is so tasty that I could not stop eating it well past the point of being full. Also worth trying is the Roman Chicken. The lemon and chocolate cakes are great, but the lemon sorbet is the best way to finish the meal - it's much more a drink than something you eat with a spoon. My wife also said the espresso is done perfectly. Very good wine list, and what's more fun than pouring it out of a pitcher? Late lunches and late dinners get very busy - I recommend getting here on the early side, being around 1p and 7p in Rome. I really can't recommend this little find more heartily. read more

This little out of the way restaurant was referred to us by our Hotel. We could not have been happier! The service was great and the food was amazing. We liked it so much we went back twice more. There is an eclectic mix of locals and tourists. The prices are pretty much in line with many of the other restaurants in the area which made them a good value during our Rome trip.
