I have been going to Temple Dental Trails for the past 2 years now for both my dental check-ups and ortho needs. I have had nothing but great experiences with this team. The highlight of this place is the AMAZING ladies at the front who will always greet you with a smile and tell you goodbye when you leave. I am the CEO of a tech company based in Austin, Texas but I live with my family in Temple. It's just a nice small community, still very much a 1950s style town but with state of the art amenities like Temple Dental Trails. I am the world's biggest crybaby. Most people who work with me recommend me staying away from the copier so I don't get a paper cut. I've faced the facts: I'm clumsy with a low pain tolerance. Oddly (and thankfully), Dr. Rich and his team get away with everything in my face pain-free - from extractions, to veneers to a follow up I needed to have after getting maxiofacial surgery after an accident. I am quite sure he uses spells and incantations to do what he does without pain. But listen, it works, whatever it is, so I don't question it. Caring, compassionate and (for me) pain free. read more

When I first visited Temple Dental Trails about 2.5 years ago, my dental situation was dreadful at best. I had avoided going to a dentist for quite some time because, like most people, I hated going. Seriously, who actually enjoys going to the dentist? After my initial consultation, Dr. Rich recommended my cavities be filled, my teeth be cleaned (because I had the beginnings of periodontal disease), and that I get braces. I also had a molar that needed to be pulled because after avoiding the dentist for so long, it was beyond saving. I had 3 out of 4 of these procedures done at TDT, but had my orthodontic treatment done elsewhere due to my teeth being an extreme case. After I had my teeth cleaned by the dental hygienist, and that molar pulled by Dr. Rich, my periodontal issues disappeared. Hallelujah! Of course I was a lot more intentional about my dental hygiene as well, having also purchased a waterpik at the behest of the dental hygienist. After my periodontal issues were resolved, I was able to have my braces placed; I visited TDT a couple times during my orthodontic treatment for routine cleaning and to discuss options to correct the shape of my front teeth after my braces were removed. We decided on crowns. Dr. Rich worked with my orthodontist (even drawing a little diagram for him) on where my teeth should be positioned to best accommodate my future crowns. After I had my braces removed, I returned to TDT for whitening and opted to have four crowns placed on my front teeth to correct the shape. I went to see my orthodontist yesterday to get a new retainer and he said "congrats, your crowns look great!". I have never had straight or perfect teeth before now, but I can happily say, thanks to everyone at Temple Dental Trails (and my orthodontist of course!) that my teeth look exactly like I have always wanted them to and I have absolutely no dental issues to speak of. And most importantly, I am no longer afraid of going to see my dentist at TDT, and in fact, I enjoy it! I have since moved to Houston and my husband and I have discussed possibly finding a dentist that's closer (there's seriously dental offices on every corner) but going to Temple Dental Trails is worth the 3 hour drive for me. read more

My bonded lingual retainer detached back in May after having it for 20+ years and my local dentistry was not able to see me due to their orthodontist not being available until July. Not wanting to wait that long, I called Temple Dental Trails and they were able to get me in sooner. Jodi, the dental assistant, explained my alternate retainer options and was wonderful in making me feel comfortable while taking a mold of my teeth. Jodi had someone check my dental insurance to see if the retainers were covered and I was told 50%, so I decided to get the upper one as well. I was aware that I may have to pay the full price in case I was denied, but was assured that wasn't going to happen. So why the reduction in stars? -1 star: When I came back to TDT to pick up my retainers on 7/10, I had to pay 100%. They had more than a month to contact me about the denial. After leaving, I immediately called back and asked why my claim was denied and the receptionist stated that she didn't know and would call me back (at the time of this review, she still hasn't). So, I contacted my dental insurance that same day and was astonished to hear the reason for denial was because I was not under the age of 26. And to add insult to injury, the Cigna rep stated that they did not have any record of contact from TDT regarding preauthorization or an inquiry about my insurance coverage for retainers. Had I received the correct information during my initial appointment, I would not have chosen the upper retainer in addition. -1 star: My husband and I loved going to Serena for dental cleanings, but since she left TDT, Glenda was who I preferred in her place and specifically requested for our next appointment (she stated she even made a note of it in the system). 6 months later, I was told it would be with another hygienist (whom I've had before and my teeth didn't really feel that clean with her), so I cancelled and didn't want to reschedule. Since moving to Killeen a few years ago, I explained my disappointment to the receptionist about how we could've just seen anyone else locally but chose to make the drive to Temple just for her. I got the impression that she didn't really care or made an effort to keep me as a client after I told her I will no longer be going to TDT in the future due to this reason. TL;DR: Majority of the dental staff is great, but some of the receptionists need some work in customer service. Double check your dental coverage to avoid unexpected sticker shock. read more

One of the WORST dental offices I have ever been to. I've never known of a dental office to make you schedule a whole new appointment just for the dentist to see you. On top of that they never call back when they say they will, leaving you waiting by the phone all day. Avoid this office, especially if you have United Concordia (Tricare) they do dental procedures that are NOT covered under UC's dental plan so you will pay a HUGE copay. read more

I am a dentist and unfortunately I can't treat myself. Fortunately though Dr. Rich is around to help me out when I need things beyond a regular cleaning. I can attest to him keeping to the highest level of care and service for his patients. I get the sense that I can take off my proverbial white coat and get treated with the utmost respect when I'm in his office. This office has abandoned me with very serious abcess that came up after a hygiene appointment it is getting near my eye and is heading down my neck after a week. Calls to the office for "existing patients" during the week were not returned Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday. Finally I called repeatedly Wed. to the "new patient" line until a woman answered who said they had "phone issues." My appointment with the oral surgeon wasn't for 3 more weeks. I could have sepsis by then! Finally late Wed they called in Amoxicillin which had little effect. I cannot tell you how horribly painful this is!!! I called again Thursday, Friday - no return call. Saturday and Sunday called the physician emergency line. STILL NO ONE CALLED ME BACK! I am an established patient. Why doesn't this practice doesn't care more about treating patients with serious dental emergencies? Sad. read more

We've been coming here since 2014 and couldn't be happier with the service and care we've been given. The front office staff is consistently friendly and they always greet us with smiles. I have very sensitive teeth and they've always taken extra care to make the cleanings comfortable and pain-free. They are great with my kids, too! I've been bringing both of my daughters here since they were two (started that young mainly to just get them familiar with going to the dentist). They are now ages 3 and 5, and both of them LOVE going to the dentist! They are so patient with them and really get them engaged and involved during the visit. They let them touch the equipment (I.e. feel the vibration of the electric toothbrush, press the button on the rinse tool, and feel the suction on their hand) to make them feel completely comfortable. The first time I went in for a deep cleaning. I'll admit I was nervous, but from the moment I walked in I started calming down. I9t feels more like a home than a dentist office. It just feels relaxing and smells amazing. That helped take away a lot of my anxiety. Jennifer was my Dental Hygienist. She made me feel comfortable and was excellent. She walked me through every step of the way. Now my gums are healthy and teeth are clean thanks to her. I recently went back and had some major dental work done. Everyone is always so friendly, comforting and supportive. Jenna was with me every step of the way and without her I think would have been a nervous wreck! Dr. Leung made sure I knew what we were going to do and we even adjusted the treatment being done based on my feedback and needs. He always made sure I was comfortable and not in any pain. Even though he worked quickly I never felt like he was rushing and that I was the priority. Jenna and Jody made the most amazing handmade temporary crowns. My friends and family thought they were the final product and thought the looked great. I think it looks great too. Not only am I thankful for the great work that was done, but Erica was able to do it in a way that met my financial needs. I've been to other dentist and it always felt like a money thing. I had high hopes that maybe I had found a new dental home, but no. I was seen this week for a specific issue I had called about 3 weeks earlier. I called back today, told them I was willing to switch dentists after all, and asked if they could possibly work me in for a cleaning in the next 3 weeks, as I am scheduled for surgery in October. I have a dentist currently and in fact had a cleaning just a few weeks ago with my regular hygienist, but am still having irritation throughout my mouth, like a mild gingivitis, so I thought perhaps she hadn't done a thorough enough job. I anticipate a lengthy recovery so I can't just waltz back in two weeks after my surgery if I need dental care. I wanted to go into my surgery feeling like I was in good shape - dental wise. So I contacted TDT again. I was told I could come in for "tests and x-rays," but no cleaning - they were booked. They had no problem taking my money for these additional tests, they just don't have the time to solve the problem I was calling about. It looks like these younger dentists are mostly just interested in your money, not your satisfaction. I asked front office to run this by Aspen, who seemed very nice when I was in, to see if something could be worked out for me, since she knew my situation. But again, no. They were booked, discussion closed. Thanks for nothing. Apparently if I want to switch dentists, I'll have to keep looking. Disappointed in this business and wouldn't recommend. The BEST dental office hands down and have been to quite a few in my time 64 years. Where to start - an abscessed tooth and no insurance - not a pretty picture. So I get an exam and diagnosis from two other dental offices - one who specializes in inexpensive no insurance came in at 5k and frankly seemed sketchy at best; No. 2 wanted 1600 plus with the outcome iffy and Dr. Leung charged me right around 850ish AFTER suggesting a dental plan purchase (good thing for me, customer). But way beyond the price - it was MORE the whole office atmosphere - clean, modern, more private exam rooms, no upselling, just straightforward conservative dentistry (no captive audience of tooth pain - I have "you" attitude) - more let's try this first (fill the cavity carefully) as it may work versus let's just do a crown. He did my procedures with no pain, quickly, efficiently and little to no mouth contortion discomfort - he is quite good! He and his staff's skill levels shine through along with no greed driven diagnoses. Everyone is very nice, professional, cheerful and quite GOOD at what they do. I cannot say enough kind and good words about his business and I hope he and his business will always be blessed! A patient for life. read more

From the first face you see when you enter the office to the people that are treating you like hygienists and Dr. Sura are wonderful. You can tell that everyone that works there is passionate about their jobs. They are very light-handed, which is making the visit a wonderful experience. Let me just say I absolutely love this place! I visited once for a teeth whitening procedure and they were great then and they're great now. I recently changed dentists for my 13 yr old daughter and this was the first place I thought of. The staff is extremely nice and professional. The office setup is also really cool. They have TVs set up on the ceiling for patients to watch while they're getting their teeth cleaned. I loved how informative the hygienist was. She really took the time to explain what was going on with my daughters dental health. The dentist was super nice and really made the experience comforting and educational. Very great experience here. The setting is very warm and inviting. Keurig machine in the lobby, with tons of different flavor kcups. All of the staff were nothing but friendly and full of smiles. Dr.rich was so nice and friendly. I felt very comfortable there. Unfortunately he wasn't able to help me because I needed an impacted wisdom tooth taken it out and he said it was too complicated for him. But his receptionist Jessica seriously went out of her way to find me an oral surgeon. Especially with spring break, places were either booked or closed but she called everywhere in temple, killeen, Austin and Waco until she got me in to a place in Waco for the very next day. My wife and I have been cared for by Dental Trails since moving to the area over 5 years ago. Outstanding staff. Always very friendly but very professional. Haven't waited over 5 minutes for an appointment. One month ago had a 12 year old crown separate from my molar implant on a Friday night. They got me in within a few days and re-cemented the crown. At that time diagnosed some issues with the tolerance inside the crown/abutment. I wasn't buying the story. They were right, within a week it detached again. Dr. Leung diagnosed the issue and told me again it needed to be replaced. At $1400 out of pocket I had trouble accepting the explanation. Long story short he was right and I was wrong! He felt the 12 year old abutment, which has long since been discontinued, was lucky to have lasted 12 years. After removal yesterday he was spot on. I put the pieces together and they could rotate. I had been a hard head and had questioned his diagnosis multiple times. Throughout the process of several appointments he'd been patience explaining his diagnosis and even drawing sketches for me....never losing his friendliness and patience with me. I'm impressed! Most doctors, dentists and CPAs don't like to be questioned about recommendations, but he handled it very well. I think this is what sets Dental Trails apart from many other organizations. read more

Having just moved back to the area, I made appointments for my son and I to receive exams and cleanings at Temple Dental Trails. After taking time off of my own, and my son's, schedule, and having filled out the necessary paperwork prior to the visit, we arrived only to discover that because I declined x-rays, they refused to see us. Now I recognize that it may be viewed as a low level of radiation, but I as the consumer should be allowed this option to decline. I can at the airports. And when I am having no pain or symptoms to suggest a problem, and lack a history for any prior dental problems, I feel that this policy is misguided. Spun to me by stating that they can't rely on their own diagnostic exam and visual inspection skills to determine if there is a problem, I suspect that it is more likely that revenue generation drives such a blind policy. You do yourself and your potential patients a disservice when you do not disclose such positions prior to patients taking the time to come in for an exam. You have cost me both time and money, and your inability to manage a simple and quite reasonable request is both unreasonable and unprofessional. Here is the position statement of the American Dental Association that was written in response to a study that linked brain tumors to the type of radiation found in x-rays: "The American Dental Association has long called on its members to order dental x-rays only when necessary. Radiographic screening for the purpose of detecting disease before clinical examination should not be performed. A thorough clinical examination, consideration of the patient history, review of any prior radiographs, caries risk assessment and consideration of both the dental and the general health needs of the patient should precede radiographic examination." I, and my son, were turned away before any of this happened. Update: The owners comments are lip service and spin. So what he is saying is that he and his practice operate outside of the guidelines of the group that has licensed him/them to practice his/their craft. Perhaps the ADA is not as outdated and antiquated as you state Richard, but rather they balance the risks of developing a meningioma/brain tumor versus the risks of a cavity that your training didn't prepare you to diagnose. Many patient's might appreciate a balanced approach from their healthcare professional in addressing those risks. This research is only a few years past so it might have slipped past your view. Regardless, when you refuse service prior to an exam there is nothing outdated about the ADA's recommendation. And if you're truly sorry for the experience, make a change. Post on your website and tell your patient's prior to coming in that you practice outside of the guidelines of your licensing board and will refuse to treat them if they don't allow you to irradiate them. Then they can make an informed decision and choose to go elsewhere rather than waste everyone's time. By the way, I can't necessarily tell if a bone has been fractured when a patient comes to see me with an injury. We have the Ottawa rules to guide us in medicine re: ankle injuries. But you won't find me refusing service to the patient's that refused imaging of the area, despite what my exam might have indicated. The only thing modern about your approach is placing higher priority for profits over respecting patient rights and well-being. read more

I had an appointment today for a root canal! I wanted sedation as I have severe anxiety! The sedation was a little pricey so I decided to do it without sedation, nitrous instead! TDT has helped me so much! I have issues with sounds and sensations so going to the dentist has been a nightmare for me for my entire life. The dentist and dental assistants at TDT are so amazing, though, and I actually look forward to going! They have heated neck wraps and weighted blankets to calm me down, as well as TVs above the chairs so you can distract yourself while the cleaning is going on. Once I mentioned that the sound of the electric brushing made me upset, they immediately switched to manual brushing, no questions asked. Everyone is super friendly and professional; it almost feels like going to the spa! I've never taken a child but the children I see there are never upset the way I was as a kid. The prices are reasonable, too; I pay out-of-pocket and it's about the same as a regular office even though TDT has such superior services. They also do cosmetic work like teeth whitening. They've totally changed my perspective of what a visit to the dentist can be like! read more

I have a lot of dental anxiety but my experience here was great. I had digital X-rays which were so easy and quick followed by an exam of my gums and then a visit from the dentist. Each step I was walked through exactly what was happening and offered a lot of opportunities to ask questions. Finally someone came to talk to me about price estimates and insurance, ect. She stayed with me to make sure I completely understood everything. I would definitely recommend this office. (It was also really plush, felt more like a spa than a dentist office.
