Why haven't I been here before today??!! This place is out of this world GOOOOOD!!! Prices are affordable, and the dining casual with premium quality food. The staff is very helpful and friendly. They pointed me in the right direction and helped explain the menu. We had the Fried Chicken hot plate with Brussel sprouts and rutabaga sides. Also the Steak and salad combo. Oh and a side of Mac 'n cheese and brioche bread pudding to top it off! Usually there's at least one thing I don't care for too much when I eat out. EVERYTHING was OUTSTANDING!! The chicken was crispy fried and still tender and juicy inside with plenty of flavor. The steak was prepared perfectly and seasoned nicely!! Oh did I mention the bread? They heat and butter it on the grill and the bread infuses the taste of the grill! Delicious! Ok, now let's talk Mac 'n Cheese. Alert! Alert! Foodgasm in progress!! Yes, mind blowing! So let's see , after a workout I was craving this place - kind of like a Chipolte for expensive salads. That being said , I ordered a chicken Cobb no tomatoes. We frequently dine here but have not visited for a couple months My son ordered a backyard steak with Romaine lettuce and I ordered a salt pepper chicken with arugula salad. After the meal and on the way home, my son could not hold to go to the bathroom. He had 2 diarrheas. He said he thought the salad dressing tasted funny. And I was nauseated and tried to vomit but my stomach was so bloated that it was too painful to even vomit. This is my go-to lunch spot when getting together with friends while I'm really focused on clean eating. The standard menu is excellent--I'm a huge fan of their roasted salmon and the green iced tea. The few chef's specials that I've had were good, especially the roasted cauliflower. Also, even though it's a casual, order-at-the-counter type place, service is great. Extremely disappointed with the overall service and food quality at this location. I have been here several times in the past and this time I felt as if I was at McDonald's. I went on 12/23, it was my husband's birthday and he wanted Tender Greens to which of coarse I agreed since your food is usually amazing. It took 30 minutes to receive my order, i placed my order at 6:21 and received it 6:50pm. Mind you i order a steak plate, tuna nicoise salad, sub salmon, hummus, a mint lemonade and a green drink. My husband received his drink first which was fine, I prefer waiting on my drink. I understand they were busy and had other orders, however when customers that arrived and placed their orders after us received their orders before us was really upsetting. About 20 mins into waiting my husband suggested we should get a refund , but I was starving and I didn't want to go elsewhere and wait again. I decided to go to up to the cashier and ask if my order was ready, to which he responded "no, not yet. " My husband went to go ask as well and he responded by telling him "it's up to the cooks." Again we didn't place a complicated order for him to respond that way. By 6:50pm we finally received my order, I reminded the cashier that I also ordered a mint lemonade, he looked at the receipt and said that he forgot to charge me. If I were in his position the least I could do is give me a free drink. But I paid for it which was fine. Back to the food, I asked for my steak to be well done, due to the fact that I'm pregnant, and it was practically chard, my husband's salmon was dry but we ate it again only because we were starving at this point. The portions as well were so small. For the price I would at least expect a bit more. I decided to take a look at the receipt and I noticed that I had already been charged for the lemonade. If the cashier actually took a look at it he would have noticed that. My husband went back to get my refund, including for his drink, since his tasted a bit old and stale. Thier manager was not their but they said they would refund me. Hopefully they will. I understand that restaurants are struggling due to covid, however for the price I expect better food and service. I've been craving tender greens for a while and decided to place an order for delivery. The food was okay BUT my salad did not come with salad dressing .. how's that possible when it was a Ceasar salad ?? The WORST part was the packaging for delivery. I'd expect way better from this place, espescially with a pandemic in place. My drink and the bag of food was not sealed at all.... the food inside was also not sealed ... which made it so easy for someone to just open the drink or food and just starting eating it . I do not recommend anyone to have their food delivered, as it's not safe at all. I've to-go from many other places and the bags were ALWAYS sealed. Even fast food places have their bags sealed. I'd expect a lot more from tender greens . 0/10 recommended for delivery unless you don't care about sanitation or anyone opening your food. read more

Awful experience. Ordered takeout thinking that we would have it delivered curbside but were told nobody was available to take it to the curb.. Went inside and saw an employee sitting at a table eating his dinner. This was at dinner time, you would think that they would schedule workers to be working the dinner shift! Picked up dinner, got home and found the steak to be bloody red! Not medium rare as requested . I guess the guy eating his dinner was the cook and was in a hurry to take a break and didn't quite finish my order. My sister thinks it's alright because she doesn't love salads much, but damn i am a big salad lover. their Thai shrimp is pretty fresh and the mandarin oranges ain't that man-made artificial junk you see in a can. There are those little white veiny things dangling from the orange slices. I also tried their lamb sandwich and the lamb was just right, not too tough. The salads here are very good, though expensive. And considering how much they cost one would think the salads would be consistently well made. They're not. One time, my salad had no dressing. Another time, all of the lettuce leaves were full size -- apparently the worker responsible for ripping up the lettuce didn't bother doing his job. This is my second time at this location, and my second rather disappointing experience. Start with the fact that both times we've been here we all shivered through our meals, and were eager to leave. My salad, the BBQ chicken, seriously lacked flavor. I was starving and easy to please. The so-called BBQ on the chicken was a suggestion of a bland rub. It was supposed to have avocado--I had (and I separated them out to show my companion) two TINY pieces equivalent to maybe 1 t of avocado. I had to hunt for the queso fresco which was found in tiny specks toward the bottom. My lettuce was in huge, torn chunks, and not treated well at all. And I couldn't make out what the dressing was, maybe a very light dusting of oil and vinegar--they say it should be cilantro lime. I love cilantro, there was NO cilantro anywhere in this salad. The salad and a green iced tea cost just under $15. That's a hefty price, and should ensure that the food will taste good and be mindfully prepared and served. My plate looked like someone had THROWN it on there from some big dispenser of pre-mixed product. Therefore I was unlucky enough to have lots of bits of soggy chicken skin (still without flavor), two TINY pieces of that avocado, and specks of the queso fresco. They gave me black tea instead of the green tea which I ordered. I didn't realize this until I saw the green color of my sister-in-law's "black" tea. They had switched them. The woman at the cash register was irritable and impolite with ME because I couldn't show her which tray was mine, and I had to tell her what I ordered (and she still got it wrong)--VERY disorganized, and describing her as surly is a compliment. When I told her they gave me the wrong kind of tea, she said "OK" and stared at me with her arms folded. I had to ask her to get me the right one, which she did without a word and handed it back to me without even looking at me. On the plus side, the tangerine olive oil cake was tasty, and the young men who clean up and bus the tables were polite and vigilant. That was my last time there, too bad because I love the concept. I love organic, healthy, locally-sourced food and I'm pretty forgiving. But Tender Greens is pricey for what you get, and at the very least the food should be delicious and prepared with the ingredients advertised. It's cool to like this place and extol it's virtues, but I feel sure any foodies or mindful cooks and eaters will agree with me on this. read more

My gf had the stead salad, soup, olive oil bread and a drink. I ordered the fried chicken salad and tea. Her order came quickly. My order took forever and the ordering/pick up process was confusing and disorganized. The salad was fresh but flavorless and the pieces of lettuce were too huge to eat neatly. The trick is to call your order in, then you can beat the crazy crowds! Tried the double chocolate cookie last time, it was soooo good. But they don't have the same desserts all the time, wish they had this cookie all the time! My favorites are the steak & beet salad--the meat is always cooked medium/medium rare. And the vinaigrette has a nice tangy flavor. I also love the fried chicken salad, the chicken is not dry and the dill is so yummy. But they recently changed the radish to a purple type of radish and it isn't as crunchy as the red one previously used. The vegan plate is also hearty and good as well, nice garlicky hummus and a variety of grains. And finally, the nicoise is great! They give a nice portion of seared tuna and the green beans are crunchy. Only complaint: Mac & cheese is a little one note, wish it had more flavor. read more

Man, I can't believe I never wrote a review for this tender green location. I love the food here! Nestled in old town Pasadena is tender greens. Pretty much every time we come there is a long line but they move you pretty quickly. Our favorites are the backyard steak and tuna nicoise. Both dishes provide you with a healthy portion of water crest, lettuce, radish and sweet potato and a piece of baked bread. For $12, the portions are filling. I also love the aqua Fresca here and it comes with free refills. Overall, tender greens is a refreshing and healthy meal. :) read more

Tender greens used to be my go to spot for salads but too many bad experiences have ruined this place from me. I had insects in my food twice and they also took away my favorite salami kale salad and instead put a chopped salad in that I feel could be bought at a grocery store. Last August I had a disappointing experience at Tender Greens in Pasadena and reported it on Yelp. It is only fair to update a criticism when a business corrects its behavior and goes the extra mile to change a patron's impression. And that is what happened to me at Tender Greens--the line manager corrected the situation on my next visit, and remembered to recognize me as a patron with a justified complaint on a previous visit.
