Used to really like this place but recent visit made me not want to come back. I came in with my friend around mid day at 2PM so it was not busy. Cashier was very kind and took our order accordingly. We grabbed a table and waited around 30 minutes for our food when we finally realized they forgot our order. Took them (I'm assuming the man was a manager or supervisor) a while to figure out which one was our order. Then he kept repeating our ordering back to us incorrectly. It was just a seared tuna and a med. rare steak for me, both with mash potatoes and salad. They decided to refund me for the meal because of the wait which I appreciated. But the food took another 15 minutes to come out and he places a well done steak in front of me. I don't normally complain but I asked if that was med. rare and he said straight to my face that it was. See pics that anyone that eats steak or works at a restaurant would know it was definitely over cooked. I told the cashier and she also agreed it was not mid rare and asked the chefs to remake a side of med. rare steak. The bread was dry, hard to chew, and soggy. The original steak was also dry and chewy so I couldn't eat it at all. The second attempt of med. rare steak was just cold and I felt like they just slightly microwaved pre cooked steak. Only the Caesar salad and the mash potato was some what enjoyable. Not to mention one of their workers kept fixing his pants in front of patrons while delivering food. Would've been fine if the supervisor realizes that the steak was indeed over cooked and switched it without me having to ask again after waiting 45-50 mins for our food and confirming with them multiple times. I think on my vegan salad (which I added chicken to) I had two bits of cucumber, a single beet bit and one sad little piece of toast. This place feels tired. I visited a second time and was discouraged. I ordered the seared tuna. It was good but not great. I was disappointed when I arrived at work. It came with a slice of toasted bread. It looked fine but when I turned it over it was burnt. After scrapping some of the burnt area it still tasted like I was eating charcoal. See picture attached. Did they think I wasn't going to turn it over? Instead of toasting another slice they took their chance hoping I wouldn't notice. This concerns me. Always a pleasure to come here! Food is guaranteed to be amazing! My friend and I visited during COVID where they placed chairs outside and abide to COVID guidelines. I always get the Mediterranean steak plate which comes with a fantastic salad that has lemon juice dressing and feta cheese! Best feta I've had! It's Definitely my favorite! I salivate just by thinking about it haha I also got a side of Mac and cheese which is also delicious! Perfect for any Mac and cheese lover! Absolutely one of my favorite eateries in Pasadena! It's a little expensive but the quality is worth it. I was a little confused at how to order, but with the help of a friend, I was able to try the backyard steak with the Caesar salad and the Yukon potatoes and me madre tried the albacore sandwich with the same sides! Both of them were darn good! I was a little worried about the steak because it was quite bloody, but man oh man...it was perfectly cooked and seasoned with the right amount of chewiness. The Caesar salad was a little bit too salty. Next time I'll ask for dressing on the side or for them to take it easy on the sauce. And the potatoes? Perfectly creamy and smooth it practically melts in your mouth! And the slice of baguette that comes with it? It's so over the top, you might have to wait a few hours to consume the bread. My solution? Take it home for a snack. The albacore sandwich was really good, although I wish it had a side of sweet, lemony sauce to come along with it! I felt like something was lacking, but that's only because I'm so used to eating the delicious side of ponzu sauce with my tuna at lemonade. But if I were to compare the quality? It's not even comparable. The quality at tender greens is high, and for the price of what you're getting? It's worth it! I met up with my friends here after work. The Pasadena location has a parking lot on El Molino and it's validated for an hour but you need to get a stamp. This place is similar to urban plate concept. I got the plate with fried chicken, kale salad and mac and cheese for my side which I had to pay an extra 2 dollars. The fried chicken was really good. The outside skin was cripsy and not too oily and the meat on the inside was really juicy. The kale salad was like your regular basic salad nothing special. The Mac and cheese was so worth the extra money. It was creamy goodness and had this layer of bread crumbs on the top that gave it some texture making it even better. I thought that I wouldn't be full from the meal but I had to take some of my Mac and cheese home. The price is more than most places but you are paying for higher quality of food and healthier options, but I don't know about my friend chicken. My family and I stopped here for a quick dinner before watching a taping of America's Got Talent. You order up front, and your food is quickly prepared so that it's nearly ready by the time you are done paying in line. There are so many choices, mostly healthy, some not-so-healthy options, too. I had a big lunch, so I wasn't that hungry; I ordered the Happy Vegan salad ($12). I loved it, and finished the entire thing! It comes with "farro wheat with cranberry and hazelnuts, quinoa with cucumber and beets, green hummus, tabbouleh, baby greens, and lemon vinaigrette". Super healthy! The hummus was delicious-it might've been an edamame hummus or something. The only downside is that my mom was craving falafel, and it was VERY salty. She couldn't even finish it. I decided to give Tender Greens another chance because the last time I was here, I did not have the fondest experience. I ordered the steak plate, which came with mashed potatoes, an arugula side salad with lemon vinaigrette, and a toasted piece of bread. It came out really quickly to my surprise. Tender Greens is basically a cafeteria style, in which you tell the first person what you want and they put in the order for you. Afterwards, you pick it up at the end of the line and you pay for your meal. I really enjoyed my meal! The steak was nice and medium rare, very tender and was full of flavor. I feel like the reason I didn't fully enjoy my experience last time was because I ordered something that was very dry. The side salad was refreshing and made me feel balanced. It wasn't too heavy and that is why I was able to enjoy my steak. The mashed potatoes were great because they were nice and buttery, with little bits of potato skin that added texture. Dinner | $30-50 I went there with my boyfriend. They ran out of some of the sides and replaced them with a substitute. They didn't even ask us what we wanted our substitute to be instead of our original side and just gave us whatever. No apology just substituted it without confirmation or telling us us they ran out. Oh the nomz! Just can't get enough..just can't get enough .. I cannot get enough of their steak. PARKING: I always find parking to the north of the restaurant on Union, but try the side streets! FOOD: It's a order first-pay-seat yourself type of deal. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes to shoot from ordering straight to my table with my nomz in tow, so I would say this is the most efficient system I've seen. :) Much better than the likes of Lemonade! First timer and I loved it! Ordered their chipotle chicken salad for $11 and it was definitely filling. I wasn't hungry till 5 hours later. The chicken was extremely juicy but I didn't taste the chipotle part. I guess that's okay because it makes the salad healthier. The rest of the toppings were great too but it was a limited amount. I think this is probably the best assembly line style (e.g. Chipotle, 800 Degrees Neapolitan Pizzeria, Mendocino Farms, etc) restaurant I've ever been to. Simply amazing high quality food. I know the store name is "Tender Greens", but it's not a vegetarian restaurant (I had that misconception too). Meat lovers are also welcome here. Backyard Marinated Steak on a hot plate (with yukon gold mashed potatoes and one choice of salad [tender green - sherry vinaigrette], $11): Juicy and tender medium-rare steak and mouth-watering mashed potatoes. Actually, that yukon gold mashed potatoes is one of the best mashed potatoes I've had - amazing texture with a little bit of sweet savory. And backyard marinated steak ... it tasted WAY BETTER than the center cut filet mignon I had at Morton's Steakhouse one month ago (not to mention steak is cheaper here). Salad was a bit too sour for my taste, but it certainly tasted very fresh. Agua fresca ($2.5) - Pineapple flavored agua fresca - so good! I didn't realize it comes with refill, or I would definitely get a 2nd round - no questions asked. A very well-balanced meal (a little bit of meat, some vegetable, and fruit - in the form of agua fresca). Yes - food is bit expensive, but you get what you get. I am glad Tender Greens is going to open up additional locations (e.g. Downtown LA and Westwood) in Southern California. I've only been to this location and I am definitely a fan. This place has that fast casual chipotle vibe, although it is a tad more upscale than chipotle, with more food options to choose from. The first thing you notice, is being greeted by a staff member upon entrance, who hands you a menu and explains how the Tender Greens concept works. The first time I came, I kind of thought about young Walmart greeters but I definitely appreciated the greeter on my first visit. My second visit came a a year and a half later, so I appreciated the reintroduction that time as well. As I mentioned, this is a fast casual setting, so you receive your food rather quickly. The food is really delicious, it tastes more like a sit down restaurant than an assembly line fast cash. My first visit I had the ahi tuna with double spinach. The tuna was seared just right and seasoned with the right amount of peppered spice. My second visit, I had the steak, which was still pink, just how I like it. For my sides, I chose eggplant and the arugula salad, both were very tasty. Now that I live in Pasadena, i will be returning to this location, more often. read more

The food is simple and delicious and I've been here about 3 times. Each time I've ordered the backyard steak hot plate with butter lettuce salad on the side with mashed potatoes. Everything is perfect. I'm not usually into medium rare steak but for some reason, I'm okay with it when it comes to tender greens. The mashed potatoes are so creamy and smooth that sometimes I forget I have other food on my plate and just eat that. Extra sides are a little more expensive at about $5 each but the roasted corn is worth it because they give you a generous portion! Service is promising as well. Everything I've had here is so good, but my default dish is the Happy Vegan. It's delicious and unique. It would be great if they had an early morning option. I went to tender greens tonight and I had the worst experience. My first encounter with the cashier was off putting. He was extremely rude for absolutely no reason. I work in customer service and have worked in fast casual settings for many years, so I understand being frustrated with difficult customers during a shift -- however, I was super nice and my order was easy! 2 plates, an extra side of chicken, and two drinks. I originally asked for it to go but it started raining and I parked far, so I was going to let them know I would prefer to dine in so I didn't need a bag. Before I get to the actual craziness, people who ordered way after me got their food before me. So I went up asking for an estimate and to let them know I was going to have it for here instead and the worker told me, "I can't determine who's food comes our first but you will get it when you get it." He was not apologetic at all and didn't even bother to ask the kitchen how much longer. Again, I wasn't rude. I think it's fair to ask how much longer.. So the same cashier was running everyone's dine in food and was personally giving the people who ordered their food to go their orders. He came up to me with a condescending tone and said "you don't need a bag, right? You want to eat it here? Well you can get your food. It's on the counter," as he was handing the person sitting next to us his order. And I feel like it was completely uncalled for. My boyfriend went up to him and asked him what his problem and he said, "this is tender greens. I'm not tolerating that, you can get the f out." Seriously?? I didn't know asking for your order for here instead of to go was SUCH an inconvenience. If I had known, I would have taken my food to go. We spoke with the manager and she was kinda helpful. She comped half the order. But I will never be back because that type of behavior should not be tolerated. And I'm so sad because I love tender greens. In general I love the Tender Greens franchise and have been a loyal customer since their first few restaurants opened in San Diego when I lived there years ago. But I have been coming to this Pasadena location for a while and have to give this store a low score compared to other locations I have been to. The quality and consistency of the dishes I order vary drastically on every visit. Multiple times I have been there dishes were prepared wrong or the quality of the food was substandard. The cleanliness off the dining area has been messy with tables left unclean on many occasions too. I'm naturally skeptical of places that identify themselves as healthy, but restaurants like this are starting to change the game. Went tonight for the first time. My husband got the pacific bowl and I got the Mediterranean salad. According to the receipt our order was put in at 8:17pm. We ordered it to go, the guy at register said once it's ready they would take it to us and gave us a number. There was about 3 other tables at this time but everyone had gotten their meals so we were the only ones waiting on our meal. Some time had past my husband ask the guy at the register just to verify if they would bring our meal to us even if it's take out he said yes. 30 minutes past I thought that was a pretty long wait considering we are the only ones waiting on our meal in the shop. Turns out our meal was ready but just sitting there but not even packed in a bag to go. The girl gave me my meal and I did tell them so you guys just have it sitting there... I a bit annoyed. Tender Greens will validate your parking if you park in the structure. But if you park on the streets, beware of the signs! I ordered the plate with salmon, brussel sprouts, and arugula salad. There is a huge portion of salad, which I love! Salmon was cooked perfectly and not dry at all. Free bread with the plate as well. Came to pick up dinner around 6:30. My sister and I were kind of short on time so we picked this place because it seemed like a quick option and she wanted salad. We ordered at the first counter and then proceeded to wait in line for about 10 minutes to pay. It seemed very chaotic and disorganized behind the counter, about 10 workers. The line cooks seemed to be working at a slow pace, almost looked like they were being trained. There were some disgruntled customers at the counter asking about their food, some of them said they were waiting for over 30 minutes. We ordered the salmon rice bowl and one of their current specials, Tuscan salad. We were told that there was a 5 min wait for salmon because they cook it fresh. Maybe that's why there was a wait for the people before us, looked like a bunch of people ordered salmon at once. Luckily we waited only about 5 more min after we paid. The cashier was very friendly and seemed to be handling the busy time well. I was skeptical about the food after we brought it home given the wait time but it was actually pretty good and fresh tasting. The portions were smaller than I expected given the prices.
