I had a sashimi appetizer, the cut of fish was poor, color was off, certainly not fresh, and you really cannot and should not consider it as "sashimi"! I would call it a chunk of raw fish... Stopped in for carry out. Had a couple Kirin beers which were slightly out of code. Got crab Rangoon, beef pad Thai, and chicken fried rice. Rangoon were okay, not much filling. Fried rice lacked flavor unless adding a lot of soy sauce. The Pad Thai on the other hand was the best I have had in a very long time. Had some heat to it and the flavor was unbelievable. We checked this place out solely based on its positive Yelp reviews. I'll be the first to say had it not been for those reviews, I wouldn't have made it past the parking lot. Its a perfect example of looks can be deceiving... the building is obviously an old Wendy's. The outside has seen better days and the perimeter is overgrown with weeds. However, once you step inside Tenji's doors it's a completely different story than the cover of the book portrayed. The inside is clean, updated & the atmosphere pleasant. The service was good... friendly and timely. We were here solely for sushi but the menu has lots of different Asian fare options. We ordered 4 different rolls... salmon roll, tuna roll, tenji roll and another special roll but I can't recall which one... Godzilla roll maybe? We enjoyed all of them but the nameless special roll was my favorite. I do remember part of it was deep fried. The presentation was on point, always a plus when you order sushi, and the prices were very fair. We will def. be returning in the near future! read more

The food is quite delicious, but they need to hire more wait staff. I ate when the dining room was pretty full will over 40 customers and there was only one waitress for the entire floor. It took around 40 minutes to get our food, and we waited for awhile to get our check. read more

We went in closer to closing time and worried we would be rushed. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered omakasi. The service and food was fantastic! Best of both I've had for sushi in Ohio. Restaurant was very clean and visually appealing. Great prices and tasty food! I was a little disappointed with the chicken teriyaki from the hibachi grill. Usually at similar restaurants the chicken is cut in thicker cubes and cooked on the grill with the rice, sauce, and vegetables but this was not. It was a thin chicken breast served on the side sliced in 4 long strip pieces with sauce drizzled over top. Sushi rolls were good despite the fact that they had put iceburg lettuce inside of the rolls which was weird. Overall friendly staff, tasty food, and great prices. WORST SERVICE EVER. We made a reservation, arrived at the restaurant, and were the only people waiting for a table. The restaurant was not full. The two waitresses walked by us at least ten times without even acknowledging us. They completely ignored us. After 10 minutes of standing there, we simply left. I cannot remember the last time I was treated so rudely. STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE IF SERVICE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU. We have lived in Mason over a year & always joked that the restaurant must be gross since there aren't ever many people there & the outer Wendy's appearance isn't the best way to get people to try a new place...BUT...this place is the bees knees! Tried it last night for the first time! Although they offer no frosty malts, they DO offer great sushi (especially the specialty ones) and have yummy hibachi. Give it a try and see for yourself! Outstanding. Really. And yes it's in a former Wendy's, but you'd never know it from the adorable and cozy interior, complete with a tiny mood-lit bar and tasteful deco. It's the food, though, that deserves the five stars. Extensive house roll menu; the Double Taste roll, salmon skin roll, and good ol' California were as fresh and tasty as they were beautiful. Hand rolls and real ramen are on the menu too, two rarities for this area and items we'll definitely be returning for. How awesome to have a great sushi place in the area! read more

Best Sushi, Ramen & Hibachi meal we have had in the area!!! Apart from the absolutely delicious food, not sure where else you can get a $20 bottle of delicious wine!! Highly recommend!!! I know it used to be our local Wendy's, but the interior has Ben transformed! Food is absolutely delicious, prices are extremely reasonable especially considering the high quality, wine prices are amazing & service was impeccable!! If you like sushi or hibachi grill, this place is worth a try. Admittedly not the best location for sushi (a former Wendy's burger restaurant by King's Island), but the quality of fish is really good. Try the yellow tail toro & salmon toro. The yellow tail toro is the best I've ever had. Tim (the owner) & Nicole (wife, waitress) are friendly, hard working (open 7 days a week), and conscientious about their food/service. Beware when it's crowded...since they can be understaffed, but the food is worth it. Not cheap, but then again, good sushi never is. I was underwhelmed by Tenji. I was somewhat hesitant about trying it because of the curb appeal but had seen many good reviews. I tried it with my family and mixed about my feelings. I tried the Yaki Soba noodles with chicken and they were great. Also the edamame was great and a generous portion. The sushi was ok and somewhat overpriced. Also the tables seemed close together which made it somewhat awkward when you were over hearing the conversations at the tables near by. I will probably give it another try but I'll stick to noodles or another entree over sushi. read more

Wildly inconsistent food. My experience has been excellent sushi and genuinely rough noodles. Those with me have had excellent noodles a few times. We've had wonderful fried rice on one occasion and flavorless another. Not really sure what to make of it. I probably will not return without a good reason since it's pricey. read more

New on the Mason restaurant scene - we were here for lunch and were very pleased. Service is prompt, the food is very good and reasonably priced. I had Udon noodle soup with chicken - the chicken was abundant and the veggies were tender crunchy. My wife had sushi and she loved it. Tenji is absolutely worth a try - it's not only sushi but they also have Chinese dishes and grilled items. We will definitely be back and I hope the quality stays high. Came again with my daughter and son-in-law for dinner - they are not sushi people, so after assuring them there were cooked entrees, they came along. They had Hibachi, which here is the style of cooking - there are no Hibachi tables or show to see, just very good food. They loved it! I had some appetizers and the Won Ton soup was very good - very light dough with pork and shrimp filling. The standout for me was the Tempura Shrimp - incredibly light and large, tasty shrimp. Nice on the inside but the sushi is very average. Just feel like it's missing something. The sushi is definitely overpriced for what you get. Maybe the rest of the menu is better? It's a chef's attention to the simplest preparations that is the most telling factor of mastery: there is no place to hide when ingredients are paired down. The sheer perfection of the miso soup at Tenji is just one of many examples of this principle. The tempura is shaterringly crisp and not greasy. The sashimi is fresh.
