My daughter and I were shopping nearby and Googled to find a restaurant that serves sushi. TenKa was the closest so we decided to try it. We arrived to discover it was in a building that also houses an indoor golf center and other businesses. Despite its exterior appearance we went inside. Someone greeted us at the door and we asked to sit at the bar. There was a couple seated at the bar, but otherwise the restaurant was empty. The person who greeted us also made the sushi and tended bar. He asked what we wanted to drink and we asked for a scorpion bowl for two. He wanted to know what we wanted to eat, but we hadn't looked at the menu yet. He brought the drink and again asked what we wanted to order. We decided to share three sushi rolls on the lunch special menu, and after ordering that he stood and waited for us to order different items. Feeling rushed, we said we needed a minute. We were brought a salad which was fresh and the dressing was delicious. The scorpion bowl was also tasty. He made our sushi rolls and brought them to us, at which time we ordered chicken teriyaki and pan fried dumplings. As he set the sushi in front of us there was a strong fishy odor. Because only one of the rolls had raw fish it was easy to identify. The yellowtail was not only smelly but was not a healthy color. I debated about whether or not to mention it, but decided to say something since it was inedible. I caught the attention of our waiter/bartender/sushi chef and quietly said, "The yellowtail is really fishy. Is there any way I could get something else?" He was clearly annoyed and did not think there was anything wrong with it but offered to make a salmon roll. I tried one piece of salmon and decided to pack up the rest. Having had a bad experience with one raw fish I couldn't bring myself to have more, even if it was most likely fresher than the yellowtail. The dumplings and chicken were good, and from seeing other reviews it looks like the hibachi is popular here. It could be that they don't do a lot of sushi business, so we'd skip that in the future. The bar filled up with a group of regulars as we were finishing our lunch, so we waited quite awhile to get the check. All things considered we will look at other options in the future. read more

We only come here for Japanese flat top grill experience. Reviews here are rather poor and maybe that's why out expectation was low but it wasn't bad at all for a neighborhood Japanese grill house. We only ordered two entrees for grills. We visited here three times and it is just never so busy for the grill. I see some people at the bar all the time but not for grill. But still they always come out for two people and do their small show (egg spinning and onion volcano if you know what I mean..). Not terrific but it's okay. Food is very standard. Nothing amazing but what average neighborhood Japanese flat top. You always get a couple shrimps no matter what you order and you have to pat $2 extra for fried rice which is worth it. Their portion is very generous but their seasoning is a bit strong. If you don't like too much soy sauce saltiness, just ask for light salt for your fried rice. Their sauce could improve (ginger and mustard). Usually you get some type of creamy sauce for seafood but not here. I would give 3.5 out of 5 here. Don't expect Michellin quality flat top, then you would be fine. read more

Tenka is an interesting proposition when it comes to hibachi. There are some pluses -- not very crowded, the noodles are a nice twist, and the ginger dressing on the salad was incredible. On the flip side, there are some negatives: extra charge for fried rice (that's one of the best parts of hibachi), kind of a dark dingy interior, and while you can eat a salmon entree it isn't available as part of a combo. Our chef was good and very friendly, and they sat us by ourselves which was fine. However, that to me is interesting as well as it was 6:30 on a Saturday night but they had enough capacity to make us a table for two? There were two large groups at two of the grills and another grill in action, mostly it seemed cooked by the one chef. If it were great you would think it would be busier. Beer list was fine by hibachi standards. C enjoyed it more than I did. If choosing hibachi in the area I think Sawa is a clear winner. read more

They used to have all you can eat sushi but I think my son eat so much they had to discontinue it :) The family owned business makes you feel right at home! The Hibachi is fun if you have a big group. Overall, the place is great. Insider tip: the Salmon avocado is to die for (the salmon is smooth like butter), as well as all the other types of sushi. We decided to sit at a table and order Hibachi from the menu, with a $20 for $40 Groupon with the restriction to order from only the dinner menu (roughly $10 more pricier than lunch / hibachi meal), it pretty much evens out to no discount. The food is fair, less salty and greasy than most places which is a plus, but the dinner meat portion - which we were told is more than lunch, is still quite a bit smaller than we expected. And my aged NY strip was definitely definitely not medium rare as requested (it's more like medium-well done). They do also have a sushi menu and the option for sushi buffet available. I had never been and saw that they were on restaurant.com so I picked up a $25.00 certificate for Hibachi. When we arrived there were three hibachi stations with people at them already. We told the host we wanted Hibachi and he responded that it could be a while and did we want to sit at the bar or come back. I asked why it would be a while since there are 6 stations and he indicated that they had only a single cook working. We decided to sit at the table and wait. The first thing I noticed was that the table was sticky and clearly had not been well cleaned. Before I could say anything the host asked us if we would move to a different table large enough to accommodate us and another group that just arrived and also wanted hibachi. We watched as the chef cooked the meals of the other two tables and the staff seemed to be running around frantically trying to keep up. It appears that they need to work on their staffing levels. After what seemed like forever our turn came. I ordered the Filet Mignon and Shrimp. The cook was very skilled at both cooking and entertaining us while he cooked. He did the usual onion volcano and really put on a show with the knives. The meal its self was great the fried rice was light and tasty and the filet mignon was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were tender and fresh and the noodles were tasty but I could have gone without them. It was a lot of food and I definitely found that I overate. We did discover however that those that ordered the white rice instead of the fried rice never received their rice. Again I attribute this to the poor staffing levels. When the bill came everything matched up but they charged me for 2 soda's instead of 1. I thought that was a bit tacky to charge for a refill given the long wait because of their staffing snafu. Walked in on a Thursday night and it wasn't busy. We were sat immediately. We saw that they offered both Chinese food and Japanese, sushi mainly. Being curious, I ordered the dragon and Phoenix from the Chinese menu, and a few spicy rolls from the sushi menu. The dragon and Phoenix (chicken and shrimp) was crispy, sweet and delicious. The sushi, didn't excite me as much as the Chinese food did, but it was nice and fresh. I saw that they had hibachi stations as well, except they weren't in use which is a shame. Tenka has the best Chinese Food of any Chinese Restaurant that I've ever been to. Kevin is the owner, he and his wife are by far the best hosts you could ever want. They make everyone feel warm and welcomed. I don't know how Kevin does it, but he remembers everyone's name, even if he's only met you once. If you want fresh food, this is the place to go. My friend really wanted to try this restaurant. She sees on her way home and was excited to try it out. Finally, we gave it a go. The majority of this review will seem good and you will think that "one star" seems odd or mis-leading, but it's all about integrity and respect. I am an honest reviewer, and like to point out what was good, as well as what I did not like. The food: We ordered the Gyoza as an appetizer and it was very good. You get 8 in the portion for $5.95, which is 3 more than most places, while they are a bit smaller, but still good for sharing. The pasta is thin and they are crispy on the outside. Quite good. My friends ordered sushi and I ordered the chicken teriyaki, which came with a miso soup or salad on the menu. I asked if I could sub the wonton soup for the miso and she said they cannot do that .. (they are the same price). I got over that, though. The portion of the chicken teriyaki was actually quite large. The chicken was OK, the flavor was good, but the chicken was a bit dry. The drinks: My friends ordered martinis, asking for grey goose. The waitress did not inform them it was quite a bit more and there was no indication on the menu of a cost differential. I am not a drinker, and I realize grey goose is a good brand, but there was no courteous mention of the price difference. The service: The waitress was not helpful. She came intermittently. When we flagged someone down to get myself more ginger soy sauce and my friend more ginger, we found a busboy and a confused server, who did not stop to listen and mis-understood, not bringing the ginger. We did ask for it again and they brought it. The water was only filled when we could flag someone down. My diet coke was never offered to be refilled. My friend ordered a second martini, keep in mind, still thinking it was a lot less in price. It took the waitress over 10 minutes to get said martini and the place was not busy. By the time she received it, she no longer wanted it. So, overall, suffice it to say, not great service. The rub: I am a minimum 20% tipper. It's who I am, it's how I roll. Well, based on our dis-satisfaction, I decided to go 15%. We all had separate checks and my friends, upset about the martini situation, as well as the uninvolved slow service, tipped how they deemed appropriate, one @ 15%, the other a little less. The tip, overall, came to 13%. You may not like it, but in my opinion, we were being kind. The mistake: After we paid the bill, a different server, trying to "help" the waitress, came and asked how everything was. We said it was "just OK". The server then went to educate us on the fact that a tip starts at 15% and then, based on service, can go up at different rates. When we explained that the service did not warrant even 15%, he said, "well, how was the food?" ... well, that does not matter, as we pay the menu stated price for the food. It is the service we tip on. Needless to say, we will not go back there. It was insulting and rude to question a table on why they tipped lower that expected. I felt like I was in an episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm". Too bad, too, but it is a cute place with acceptable food. read more

Ok. I've gone here twice and wanted to write about our poor experience both times. Time #1 everything seemed to be going good until we tried to pay with a credit card. The waiter said there would be a 50 cent additional charge to pay with a credit card. When we asked why and poked for a specific reason it ended with the manager yelling at us for asking why. 50 cents is not a big deal but it's the principal of the thing. We decided to pay with cash. Is this even legal? Even though that happened the food was ok and we decided to go back the next week. Well this time the food was not good. First of all the food came out about 10 minutes apart. So by the time the fourth person got their food the first person was done. One person we were with got the spicy tuna sushi and it was incredibly not fresh with very little tuna steak. It was loaded with shredded tuna. Worse than supermarket sushi. Our friend sent it back to say hey this tastes bad, it's not fresh and I don't want this. So the manager comes out and says "so is something wrong with this?". We expressed our concerns and he got angry and said "no. You are wrong. It's perfect". Our friend said "no it's not. And how can you tell me what tastes good?" The manager said tough and charged us for the meal anyway. Also about an hour after the meal 2 out of the 4 of us were stricken with bad stomach pain. I absolutely do NOT recommend this restaurant. The owner/manager acts as a "one man band"and seems he insists on doing EVERYTHING himself, which in turn means a LONG wait for any type of service in the bar area, for seating, and for drinks. The food and drinks are VERY overpriced and most of the dishes don't even come with rice, which is usually standard at any other Asian restaurant. So, you are paying about $13 for the protein, and then have to pay extra to get the rice. I have been there more than once, as it was out of convenience on my way home, and each time I leave disappointed. During one of my visits, the bartender that WAS on was chewed out so badly by the manager/owner in FRONT of customers that there was a screaming fight and the bartender walked out. Dinner AND a show? If there was a Panda Express next door this place would be out of business. Way overpriced. And I don't say that without reason. It's $21 for a basic entree (non teppanyaki) and fried rice. You read that right. It's mall food court/carry-out caliber food...honestly I don't think that's bad, but just so you know what you're getting that's what to picture. I like mall quality Chinese, but not $21 per person for that quality. They charge for soda refills and don't bother mentioning that until the bill at the end. I guess stick with the water, a $12 surprise bill for soda at the end isn't pleasant. There isn't much atmosphere, it's kind of a modern motif with no background music. Eggrolls were meh. Sweet and sour chicken was uber dry. The sweet and sour sauce was more that super pale orange-yellowish kind than the good orange/red kind. Service was kind of slow, too, but not intolerably slow. Besides the shocker at prices and that they CHARGE FOR SODA REFILLS WITHOUT TELLING YOU, it wans't bad per-se. Just more like...I guess when you think about it, why would you go to this place? For $9 you can get identical food delivered to your door. For $21 + $2 drink + $2 refills + tax/tip you can eat here. It's not surprising why this place was empty and dreary. read more

We waited for drinks, we waited to order; once the food came, we never saw our waitress until it was time to clean up. No second round of drinks for anyone. To add insult to injury, the pad thai we got was void of flavor. I asked to have it removed from the bill since it wasn't edible and she said the best they could do was 1/2 off since I didn't tell them right away -- which I would have done if she once stopped by to check on us. This by itself was enough to knock off two stars from my review. Food - 3/5. I know steak at hibachi is hit or miss but I found it hysterical that we got three steaks all ordered differently: medium rare, medium & medium well. The medium and well went on and came off the grill at same time. :-) The rare steak was the last one off. It was cooked a little more than I wanted but I still thought it was okay. Shrimp and scallops were good; fried rice was pretty mundane. Pad Thai was awful. I have asked for something to be taken off the bill 3 times in my life; this was unfortunately one of those times. Entertainment - 2/5. WE go to Samba a lot and Tepanyaki in Franklin and both put on a much better show. When I first went to Tenka (it was brand new), I wrote it up in Trip Advisor, but forgot to Yelp... (GASP! HOW DARE I). It was then I met a VERY talented sushi chef named Benny... And we went back, and it still rocked... And we went back, but no Benny... And we went back, and no Benny, but it was still good... And we went back for more sushi, and it was ok... And we went back on Saturday May 30 - and the diet coke tasted like dish water and it was flat... and we sent it back 3 times... And the water tasted like dish water... and service was, uh, um... uh... eh. And the tepanaki was full and the dining room empty and service was still slow. And my sushi was... rice deprived and a bit sloppy. It was, ok... eh - I could've saved some dough and gone to the Natick Collection, and had it in the food court. It seems like Tenka is heading towards the fate of the other establishments there. It started out shining, and it is starting to fade. I should've headed home and went to Feng... Much better service and sushi... Rats, I should've had some sake instead of the diet coke... Its pricey too... Its too bad, because their sushi was excellent last year when they opened. I know now, I'm not going back. With all the other sushi options in the area, its simply not worth it to me to deal with route 9 traffic, bad soda and not so good service... read more

Meh. This place is really not that great for what you pay. I've been a few times because they seem to always have a groupon or restaurant.com coupon so you get a good deal. If you have to pay full price, you leave wishing you'd spend that money somewhere else. First of all, the all you can eat sushi is a rip-off. It's $30 a person and they do everything they can to make sure you do NOT get close to $30 worth of sushi from them. I've had them neglect us after our first plate for so long that we just left before ordering more. Most of the time, they just give you a gigantic rice ball with a teeny tiny piece of sushi on it so that you get full on rice. The hibachi was only OK. My in-laws LOVE hibachi so we found a place to take them when they visited from Jacksonville, FL. They love their favorite place there because of the fun chefs. Our chef at Tenka was booooooooring. And the other chefs didn't seem to be having much fun with their customers either. The only highlight was that we were seated with some really nice people and we had a great conversation with them. That has nothing to do with the restaurant though. The hibachi was also overpriced considering the food was only mediocre. If you are looking for a great hibachi and all you can eat sushi place, I recommend making the drive to Sakura Tokyo in Worcester. They do not skimp out on the all-you-can-eat sushi and it's only $24 and on Thursdays AYCE sushi includes free buffet. I think Sundays, too. Not sure. read more

My hubby and I go here on our date nights and get the all you can eat sushi. We have never been disappointed with the food or the quality of the service. Granted, if you're looking for a quick in and out place to grab food, this isn't the place for you. Their sushi is fresh and yummy. I dream about their dragon rolls lol. Took the kids with us for hibachi and had a wonderful time. Good show and the food was fresh and good. We had to wait for another table to finish, so we were brought out complementary chicken fingers for the kids, which was a nice touch. The tempura is the best around (and I'm a fan, so I've tried lots of local places). I don't find it any more expensive than some of the other asian places out there. Portions are large in my opinion - we always have plenty to take home. Not sure what the negative reviews are all about. No, it's not a fast food joint so you're going to be there a while. Decided to try Tenka. Not into Sushi or Hibachi, but their regular menu looked interesting. We ordered Chicken Hot & Sour Soup and Miso Soup, both tasted fine but were sparse with ingredients. Too much broth, I prefer a heartier soup! We also ordered the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, Vegetable & Tofu Teriyaki and Wok Basil with Chicken. Nothing was outstanding. I'm going to start by saying I haven't had any food here other than sushi. I came here with my mom last week and I really liked the decor and the setup of the place. It is a significant improvement from the Canyon. When I opened my menu, my jaw dropped. City prices in a Westboro restaurant?! No freaking way. But I held my breath and ordered anyway. I have to say, I have only had tastier (or maybe just as tasty) sushi in NYC. The fish was amazingly fresh and the sushi chefs really know their stuff. And the wasabi was actually strong enough to give me a gnarly sinus burn. Yay! I was actually so happy with my sushi that I didn't even realize how crappy the service was. Our waitress forgot to bring waters as well as our soup & salad that was supposed to come with our sushi meal. And the owner/manager(?) was really in your face and REALLY nice. And kinda creepy. I came on a weeknight for sushi and hibachi. For sushi, I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a spicy crab salad roll - nothing fancy! Both rolls were very good and of a nice size. The fish and crab tasted fresh and and spicy sauce was nice, but not overpowering. For hibachi I ordered a shrimp entree with white rice. The sides were nice (veggies and noodles), but I thought the portion size of shrimp was on the skimpy side and also found the shrimp to be a bit overcooked. One major thing to note is that the waitress asked us all if we would like fried or white rice and all but one person asked for white rice. However, the only person to actually get their rice was the one who ordered fried rice. I was full after my meal, but still wish I had gotten my rice. I would return here, but would probably only come in for sushi. read more

Really it was an overall decent experience. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. Two only two major gripes I had were these: * The owner/only waiter was on his cell phone most of the time, so there were gaps of time that no one was around - I had to wait to get re-fills, to-go box, etc until he was done with personal calls. * They charge you for every soda refill. $3 each, to be exact. They don't tell you this either. In fact, my glass was refilled once without me even asking. So if you don't watch out, your soda tab can go up to $9 over the course of lunch. Fairly unethical, I think, for them to do that without letting you know. I wouldn't rush back here; but I wouldn't steer away either, I guess. Went last night for the first time, pretty solid overall, worth going to if you want sushi or some Chinese dishes, but wouldn't drive out of my way to go here. We sat in the regular area, not the hibachi area, ended up each getting one of those rum fruity drinks, pretty large and good. Price was good, only $6 or so, not too bad. We started with the steamed homemade veg & pork dumplings that were very tasty and did seemed homemade. We split a 15 piece sashimi and while it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, it was really good and good size pieces! We also got the szechwan shredded crispy beef that had a good amount of veggies in it as well. The sauce was very flavorful and would get it again. They also have an all you can eat sushi option for $25 that could be great to get as the choices look good, between regular rolls, special rolls, sushi AND sashimi! read more

Came here to use a groupon we bought and had a great time! Three of us came for dinner and drinks. We each ordered a cocktail from their lengthy list... Our server suggested the Mai tai and my two guests ordered them and loved them and I had a banana lunch or something like that and it was lovely! For apps we had the edamame and crab rangoons and were happy with them. For sushi We tried to Boston roll the spicy salmon roll the tenka house roll and a Philadelphia roll and all were great! Our server was great answering our questions and made suggestions for us and helped a lot with my friend who cannot eat gluten.. Very reasonably priced, great service, great food. I've been to Tenka twice and I've had two very different experiences. The first time was great - my boyfriend and I had to wait a little while for a hibachi table to open up and the manager was nice enough to send us over a free appetizer while we waited (always a plus!). Once we were seated we had a nice time (good scorpion bowls!) and the cook squirted sake in our mouths. The second time we came was completely different - I ordered a spicy tuna roll as an appetizer and it was so gross that I only ate one piece - just a ball of mush with no spicy flavor or crunch (and yes I like sushi & eat it a lot). When I told the waiter he just took the plate away, no apologies or anything. Then the cook gave another patron my boyfriend's steak and when he realized what he did he had to go get another piece and we had to wait for him to re-cook the steak which he tried to give to my boyfriend quickly when it was still med-rare (he ordered it med-well). Overall, I might have to come back one more time because the hibachi is really good as were the drinks and other appetizers that we had - I won't be getting sushi here again though! read more

This place was great. I'm a huge fan of hibachi/teppenyaki, and this place ranks highly. Chef Orient in Framingham still sets the bar, but this place isn't far behind (and its new, so it will just keep getting better). The only reason I docked a star was the service. Obviously a new restaurant, so they are still learning, but the waitress seemed very out of it. Repeated our orders back to use four or five times each, and had to have us point out the drinks we wanted from the menu. Didn't get anything wrong though, so that's a plus. Not sure if this will keep up, but they have "sake" in a squirt bottle (tasted watered down) that the squirted into people's mouths from a distance. Was a lot of fun, but the adults seemed weird about it (but then jumped in later). Sushi bar looked awesome, and look forward to going back to try that out at a later date. Great sushi! Great asian appetizers! Great pad thai! I've been here so much they know my face. I honestly would rather go here than Mandarin (too expensive) and Cheng Du (food is a gamble). The service is great, very friendly and fast. The sushi is the best in the area, in my opinion. We havent had the hibachi so i cant review on that part. Went here for a Sunday night dinner and, as we were in the mood for sushi, sat on the regular dining side of the restaurant. I had a spicy tuna roll, california roll, and shrimp/avocado roll, which were all fine (not the best sushi I've ever had, but certainly not the worst). My fellow diners enjoyed their sushi as well. The biggest downfall of our meal was the service. The waitress seemed very inexperienced and didn't seem to know the menu very well at all. My husband ordered a sushi dinner that was supposed to come with soup or salad, which we almost didn't get because she was unaware. Our other dining partner didn't get the correct sushi and the language barrier was so impossible that the manager ended up coming over to rectify the situation. We might come back here for some take-out sushi if they keep sending the coupons! :-) read more
