To be totally honest, living in the area for 5 years we never tried Cheng Due before mainly because of the low ratings in Yelp. However, last weekend we decided to give it a try because some times we need to give the benefit of the doubt to some places and judge them by ourselves. Well, to our surprise we had a very pleasant first experience at this place. Starting with the ambience, the restaurant has a nice sophisticated and inviting atmosphere. Everything was very clean and organized in an elegant way, which caused a very good first impression. Continuing with the food, there is a variety of options in the menu, mainly Chinese (of course) but also a Japanese section (sushi and other items). We ordered from the Chinese options...For appetizers we ordered the Thai Spring Rolls, the Scallion Pancakes, and the Boneless Ribs, all of them very delicious. The Scallion Pancakes have been the best in terms of texture that we have tried in the area. Our only recommendation would be to add more scallions to the dough so they can taste more to scallion. The flavor of the Boneless Ribs was very tasty and their texture was tender, not chewy as we have tried in other places. The Thai Spring Rolls were interesting, flavor was good as well as the texture. As main entree, we ordered the Orange Crispy Beef and the Sesame Chichen and found both very delicious. The crispy beef was the first time we tried something like that in the area. The amount of sauce that they used in both dishes was not too excessive and the tenderness of both the beef and the chicken was very good. Regarding drinks, we ordered a Piña Colada and a Polynesian cocktail, both with very balanced flavors. The only recommendation for the Piña Colada is to try making it more frozen and not with too many ice cubes. The flavor was pretty similar to an authentic Piña Colada (we are from Puerto Rico, the place where this drink was born and have to admit that the flavor was good); making it more frozen would give the final touch to make it more authentic, in our opinion. The desserts menu was not extensive at all, only one option available which was the fried ice cream. We decided to try it anyway and found it very good. In terms of the service, it was acceptable. Our server did a great job taking the order and not missing any item as well as serving our table on time and accurate. He wasn't smiling all the time, but he was respectful and polite, enough for us. I would say that if you are in the area, you can give it a try. For 5 years we avoided this place, and unless they changed something recently I have to say that we like the experience and are planning to go back. We don't do late dinner regularly, so we went there around 5:30 pm, which we don't know if that could have made any difference in everything. read more

Statues, wood, living room chairs at most tables, and a few private nooks make this a very stylish restaurant fitting the claim of "sophisticated Asian cuisine" on the sign out front. Weekday lunch with not much of a crowd. Lunch combinations made it easy. -- Hot and Sour Soup: Tea-colored and thin and somewhat watery, but the heat and tartness still came through. Decent amount of mushrooms and tofu, without much variety. -- Egg Roll: Crisp outside, moist inside. Mostly cabbage, with some gray pebbles of pork. Not much flavor here, so it really needed the duck sauce. -- Orange Beef: A generous portion for a lunch combo, with bumpy semi-crisp surfaces, and somewhat tender meat within. Think of them as miniature chicken fried steaks. The flavors in this dish were impressive, blending spicy, sweet, and tart. Orange, peel, onions, and other little nuggets added complexity. A little gloppy, but someone who likes this dish would like this dish here. -- Fried Rice: Very light of color and no additions other than egg. Moist and fresh, but bland. Zero flavor. White rice would make more sense (and maybe even more flavor). -- Pork Fried Rice (full order): I ordered an extra to go, to see how it compared against the lunch special rice that wasn't that special. Still light and a little lacking in flavor, but an improvement with the pork and other additions. Fairly average. Decent enough meal, reasonable value, but flavor and/or texture was a little lacking on some items. Worth another look though, thanks to the Orange Beef and the atmosphere. read more

I rate this place a 6.2 overall. 3 stars on yelp. The decor was ok lighting was off on our table and dim. Front desk and owner was nice even though our waiter was gone for long periods of time. We had to keep looking for him to wave him to come over. Now the lets get in to our order. We ordered chicken fingers,beef teriyaki,crab rangoons,boneless spareribs and beef fried rice. Chicken fingers get a solid 10. Teriyaki was very thin but flavorful so solid 7. Crab rangoons were seasoned well and flavorful with the exception of them being overly sweet so 5.5 on those. I dont like sweet crab rangoons. Boneless spareribs were dry and not flavorful no char or grilled flavor to them 4.5. Beef fried rice had no flavor. The cook does not no what salt or soy sauce is. Super bland and just awful. The beef was cut so tiny and thin i barely could see any. Beef had no flavor just bland. Worst beef fried rice i ever ate. Thats gets a 0. I did see a couple across from me order lo mien and it looked very delicious. I was so disappointed i ordered fried beef rice. I can say they do have the best fresh chinese chicken fingers i have ever eaten. Highly recommend getting them if you go to this place. This is one of my Fav local Chinese places!! My experience is the food & customer service is consistently good!! With fresh for pick up (warm) OR dine in options! They also give you a nice reusable red to-go Bag! I would love a Black or even Green reusable bag since (I/we do pick up a lot in waves!) As u can see from the outside a beautiful spot & there's different rooms or sections that I like! My parents chose to come here and they don't look at Yelp reviews much, so I was a little nervous when everyone we saw eating here was not asian, and the menus were in English. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the service here and we enjoyed most of the dishes we ordered. The fried rice was good, so were the scallops and the veggie dish with pea pods. The Kung pao chicken was okay, though the flavor was not your standard slightly spicy kung pao. The ma po tofu was the one dish everyone disliked (I did not try it though so can't really judge). The real surprise was that Peking duck was on the menu. The duck was a little dry but tasted good! We do wish the wraps were thinner and smaller and that they had better garnishes like cucumbers and more green scallions, but honestly I was not expecting much. I haven't had Peking duck in quite a while and it was enjoyable. They even obliged when my parents asked for the duck bones to take home so they could make soup with them. The ambience of the restaurant is more upscale than most Chinese places, and we had a semi private room. This is normally our go to place for Chinese take away but the last two times we've had poor experiences. Last time someone there didn't put the covers on the sauce containers and the entire bottom of the take out bag and the food containers were soaked with sweet and sour sauce. I let that one go, but not this latest issue. This time for our Sweet and Sour Chicken order, which for take out is just chicken fingers and the S n S sauce in another container, some of the chicken fingers were raw. See picture. I got halfway through one of them before I took a look at it. I called them and explained what happened. At first they just offered for me to come back and they'd give me a new order. I'm actually surprised to see that Cheng Du only has 3 stars on here. I used to go here a lot as a kid, they had huge fish tanks throughout that were mesmerizing. I went on Christmas day this year for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, the fish tanks are gone. The service was slow, as it was very busy, but our waiter was very friendly. The food was really good, especially in comparison to some of the other Chinese restaurants around. We got sushi, general task's, and Lomain. I also love their tea. read more

So, I have only been to Cheng Du one other time which was entirely not memorable but decided to get New Year's Eve take out this year from Cheng Du. Now, knowing that this is the biggest day for Chinese take-out, I ordered in advance although had no expectations that there would not be some kind of delay. I arrived at the set time to pick up my food and was met by chaos. It was entirely chaotic with the young servers who were trying to get customers their orders, appearing frustrated and clearly pointing to slips that were tacked to the wall indicating that there was no system to how these orders were being filled. The kitchen was filling orders with little regard to time placed or in any particular order. So I sat for over an hour waiting for my food which was finally rushed out of the kitchen to me. Now I can understand an overwhelmed kitchen, but this restaurant must know that this day is incredibly busy and have a system in place to deal with increased demand, right? I drove home and realized that there was no Broccoli in the chicken and broccoli dish I ordered. Not a single piece of broccoli, perhaps they ran out? Also, no sweet and sour sauce for the sweet and sour chicken so had a serving of just chicken fingers. The beef teriyaki was like jerky on a stick with an off taste. Unfortunately something was out and they got in contact with me and I said it was fine just take it off the order. My husband and father in law went to pick it up and got there and were treated very disrespectfully by whoever was working that night. They've been around forever, and for a good reason. The food is consistently good. We have kids, so we tend to stick to the American take-out staples (fried rice, crab Rangoon, Peking ravioli, etc.) and it always tastes like they used high quality ingredients and made it fresh to order. I also appreciate the attention that they have decided to pay to their takeout packaging. They use recycled cardboard in place of styrofoam, the paper boxes are fastened together with a sticker instead of with metal, and they pack it all up in a high quality reusable bag that you can take to the grocery store. read more

This place used to be the best in town. Typically on the expensive side but used to be worth it. Not any more. In recent years it's gone down hill. Still expensive, but the quality is not the same. Every dish we ordered, ginger shrimp, lamb with scallion, general chicken, even the crab rangoons were terribly salty. Almost inedible.
