My wife and I dined at Tacos Tequila tonight and honestly it was a less than acceptable. When we arrived though what I believed to be the front door, there was people waiting but no sign to show if you were the front was. We did find it, put our name down and was told it was a 20 minute wait. No problem, it was Friday and the place was packed. It was exciting because that meant the food had to be great. We get seated and then.. nothing. No one comes to greet us, no one is taking our drinks. I finally had to grab someone and I told him we as well as the people next to us haven't gotten drinks. I repeated it three or so times, pointing to the other table as well. He only came out with waters for us. The other table, which was seated as we were, waited 45 minutes for drinks and had to request them twice. 10 minutes after that, I was finally able to flag someone down to put our order in. The man taking our order stood awfully close to us and it was an uncomfortable experience. But we got our food order in. I think another 20 minutes later the table next to us finally got to order after they also grabbed the waiters attention. We waited another 45 minutes for food. No one came to check on us, tell us there was a wait and apologized. I even called another server over to say hey, people are not getting taken care of. He kept ignoring me and asking me if I wanted them to check on my food. I repeated no, I want people to get service, a table that was across from us hadn't even had their order taken and they were sat 10 minutes before us! He said that the kitchen was backed up. I said that wasn't the issue, that no one was even being served until we flagged them down. He kept going back to asking if I wanted him to check on our food. I repeated no and said Nevermind. Our food finally came and we were so hopeful. I ordered the Steak Mexicans, which comes with grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms. No mushroom. The rice and beans had no flavor whatsoever. It was also cold. Steak was fine, it wasn't my favorite. It was very tough and I ordered it rare. My wife had the Quesabirria. There was no abundance of cheese. The meat inside was sparse and dry. The consume was meh. She couldn't get the meat to soak up any juice, it was so dry. Her whole meal was cold. It looked like maybe our food had been sat there for a while. As soon as someone came by, I asked to pay. I'm unsure if anyone else is trained on the device they used to take order and pay, but the same man was there. I had read a review that the man stood close while paying, I'm guessing in a way to put pressure on the guest for bigger tips. We got up shortly and we heard someone shocked that we were done because they for their way before us. Also, the table diagonal to us JUST ordered their food. The table that was sat 10 minutes prior. I understand this place is new and that's why it's important to say this. I saw who I thought might be the manager (he was wearing a different shirt) for a total of 15 minutes during my meal. I saw a lot of walking back and forth in a very quiet kitchen. It had no idea if we had a waiter assigned to us, or even our section. The service was terrible and no accountability was taken for how "slow the kitchen was". Based on how cold our food was, I wonder if the kitchen was pushing out food and maybe the wait staff was too overwhelmed? Overall, extremely disappointing and I am hopeful that in the next few months, things turn around and we can actually enjoy a meal, not our whole evening, at this establishment. read more

This place was hopping. We decided to eat outside. The inside was a little noisy. The drink menu had more than just tequila drinks. My group all ordered different drinks. They were a little heavy on the pour. Now let's talk about the tacos. I ordered the chicken and salmon. What a perfectly made tacos. My friends had the jerk option. Great new addition to the Miller Beach district in Gary! My wife and I stopped in here for dinner before attending an event at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts (just 2 blocks away). Tequila and Tacos was delicious! These are some seriously good tacos. I had a vegetable taco and a shrimp taco. My wife had a shrimp taco and a chicken taco. The shrimp was hands down both our favorite! So good with an excellent mango chutney on top. We started with chips and guac and I also added a side of cilantro lime rice to my tacos. Good beer selection and of course tequila and margaritas! This is our new go to in Miller Beach before events. And note that Tequilas and Tacos is next to 18th Street Brewing. We had an event to go to, but eating here and drinking there after would also be a worthy trip. read more

Good food. Service is unprofessional and favoritism is huge here. If you don't know the owners or the staff it's seems that you will be ignored. We live in town and tried to come here for drinks and to splurge on food, in which we do regularly. Our money will be well spent at any other small business in town, just not this one. Waiting 30 mins to be even greeted, EVERY SINGLE TIME we've tried to visit, while we watch staff serve and acknowledge their friends (using first names) repeatedly and not carrying over that service to everyone that comes in the door is pretty sad and unprofessional. The food we did have the opportunity to try through a friend was great, but it doesn't mean much when you don't work on building a new customer base, each and every to every single guest. The salmon my have been the best fish taco I have ever had and we are originally from CA and now live in TX so we eat a lot of Mexican food. The drinks were tasty also! This was were our mother's day lunch was spent. It was such a great time. The drinks were so good. Adrianna was our server and she was THEE best. We had the steak nachos as an appetizer and it was a great portion. They had a tangy spicy sweet sauce which really set them off. We were able to split them between all three of us. And we were more than satisfied with our share. The tacos were worth every dollar. The jerk and the steak taco were amazing. But the Barbacoa Taco was the talk of the night. The parking was limited to the street from what we could see. But the tinted windows and the beautiful grey paint inside made for a cool ambience. The owner was hosting a young professionals event. His energy was great as he encouraged the after party to be at his restaurant. We decided to go support a local black business in Gary Indiana as we were there solely for business. When we got to the restaurant/bar it wasn't that big but it was pretty nice. I liked the seating but its not big enough to host an after party. People were pretty much crammed in the place looking for seating. The staff was not prepared for an after party. I will just say that. He had no floor servers, they were running out of food, and the staff was overwhelmed. We decided to go to the bar after we sat and realized no one came to take our order. People were all over the bar. There was only ONE bartender making drinks and then one girl came in and started to help her. The Bartender was all over the place but we noticed she helped the people that she knew as she said to us twice I will get you next. 8 drinks later she finally came by and said im about to take your order in one second. Now people were just walking up to the bar and immediately she took their order but we stood there for a good 10-15 minutes waiting on our drinks. After the third time saying she will be with us I told her thats okay, i literally just watch you make 8 drinks for 3 different people who walked up to the bar and she yelled saying "OKAY BYE, HAVE A NICE NIGHT! THROWING UP HER THUMBS" Thats so unprofessional... understandable this staff was working under pressure but the owner or no one else in charge was no where to be found and left his staff there struggling and under a lot of stress. That is where u drop the ball. The suggestion i have for this business is teach your staff professionalism. Teach them how to work under pressure and train them to take orders in a orderly fashion. At this event there were a lot of young professionals who worked in real estate, for the city council, and other businesses that can affect your business. Do better. read more

There's a new kid on the block that landed on Lake Street in Gary's Miller Beach area. I had been eagerly waiting for T&T to open for the longest time and just when it seemed it wouldn't happen, they finally had a soft opening around First Friday time. I tried to check them out that day but it was pure pandemonium. I sat just to the side of the bar after being directed by a server and was promptly forgotten. Ten minutes later I looked around the crowded room and saw a few groups had drinks and others like me were still waiting to be served. I didn't see the situation improving so I decided to take a raincheck and left. I pass by T&T on an almost daily basis in the evenings since that night and noted that the place was jamming with folks. So clearly the word was out and it must've been good. I knew I'd have to go back but it would have to be during a non-peak time so I could maybe get better service. It just so happen that on 07/06 I was working from home and D was home as well. I told D that we have to try T&T for a late lunch meal. It took a little convincing but eventually he was game and we ventured there. We sat ourselves at one of the small tables near the restaurant's front entrance and eventually our young server (didn't look a day over 15 but assumed he was at least 18...lol) came over and gave us menus. He was pleasant the whole time he served us. We decided on the chips and guac. Those were really good. I would've liked a few more chips. D ordered one beef and one chicken taco while I did a beef and jerk chicken. There was a mix up that the server quickly mentioned where they bought two beefs and two jerks. He told us he'd return with a chicken. The extra taco wound up being an unexpected bonus. Since tequila is part of the name, I decided I had to order one of their drinks. I believe I got the Miller Beach sunset drink. It was quite good. I would order that again. Throughout the time there I spied the owner walking around the restaurant and then the bar. He stopped and talked to various folks sitting at different tables. He didn't make it to our table though. Oh well. Overall the meal was great and I was glad to hear from the server that you can order carryout as well. I definitely can see myself doing that in the future. T&T is a great addition to Lake Street and if the patrons are any indication, I see a bright future in store for them assuming the food quality stays the same. read more

While visiting Indiana Dunes National Park we stayed down the street from T&T, so we decided to stop in for dinner our first night in town. We shared the chips with salsa and guacamole. Fun and festivities at Tequila and Tacos! Highly recommend the Nacho Salad as a shareable appetizer with a side of homade tortillas. We followed a previous recommendation and ordered the Barbacoa tacos. The food was delectable and the service was amazing. We enjoyed the atmosphere for an afternoon lunch and we are only sad that we won't be here at 6 for the live music. Very small hole in the wall spot. Not much parking around. There were only like 2 waitresses in the establishment so when you come in, you're looking confused because there is no one around to greet you but then the waitresses will come seat you once they are done taking an order. The bartender looked like she was on her phone the whole entire time I was there. The tacos were ok. I ordered 1 chicken, 1 steak, and 1 jerk taco that really wasn't jerk. I should have known when I asked for jarritos for my babies and they said we have lemonade. I asked for hot sauce and she said they had buffalo sauce... I was confused... I took my parents here while visiting me. Service was friendly and fast by our server Jordan. We all had steak tacos and demolished them. Not even just saying that. Stumbled upon this place for a late Lunch after a day at Indiana Dunes National Lake Shore. The outside is pretty nondescript but it's a nice place and I highly recommend it. My kids and I loved the food. Really, really good tacos. I had a long way to drive after lunch so I didn't have any etoh but would have loved to try a Marg. Waiter was really nice.
