Honestly dont know how anyone would give this place 5 stars. The food was seriously not good. The chicken was stringy and bland. We got gaucamole and it was not guacamole. It was a mashed up avocado - not even seasoned with salt or anything. I've had better mexican food from little strip mall places. The rice was like the boxed rice you ate in college - not bashing that - but not what I want to order and pay a premium for at a mexican restaurant. I walked in with a gatorade bottle (because I am here as a tourist and hydration is important to me) which had like 2 sips of drink left in it. The first thing the hostess said to me when I walked in was "would you like to throw that away"? I did not see a sign that said I couldnt walk in with my gatorade, but could have missed it, but her approach could have been more friendly. But also, that is a ridiculous rule. So I drank it quickly before being seated. I would not have even cared about this had we not found out later that they charge you for bottled water. First of all, if you are going to charge people for bottled water then they should be allowed to bring in their own water bottle so they have an option. Money doesnt grow on trees for hard working people, and the profit on a water bottle is not keeping you in business. Second, plastic water bottles are bad for the environment - at least give people the option for regular ol tap water. I mean, the margarita was basically water anyway. It was awful. It is such a shame because this is in a prime location - and sorry but there are a ton of people from out of town visiting the springs and drinking water with them - they should be allowed to walk in with their water. I don't understand that - its not like we didn't still order food and drinks (even though I wish we never did). read more

Stopped by for lunch, ...Cute name, awesome atmosphere, outdoor patio overlooking the springs. Food fantastic. I wanted the skirt steak dinner at $35-40 I thought it was a tad expensive. However, that's what I was craving. My husband chimed in let's share the meal. Well only 2 of us and this plate could easily feed 3-4 folks. It was fantastic. Med size shrimp, tender mushrooms and perfectly cooked skirt steak. Accompanied by chips and salsa. The special marg we put in 2 straws and shared it too!!! Now our Togo box was filled with 3 large slices of skirt steak. Service was friendly and efficient. Definitely a new go to!! read more

Whenever we visit Pagosa Springs, we manage to eat dinner at Tequila's. The menu is incredibly large, and everything we have ever eaten here has been superb. I am partial to Camarones en Salsa Verde. This is jumbo shrimp, cooked over charcoal and served with a green tomatillo sauce, with Spanish rice topped with baby shrimp. The large plate is always clean when I'm done. Food delicious. The view is spectacular - along the San Juan River. Nice interior atmosphere if you want to forgo the outdoor deck seating. Unique furniture with lots of art. Good service that is attentive yet not intrusive. This is a great restaurant, and I wanted to commend them sufficiently that I went to the trouble of adding this business to Yelp. The overall question that's interesting is why would this restaurant limit their customers to one refill. No other restaurant we have visited while in Pagosa Springs has limited drink refills. Very nice experience at Tequilas. We dropped in because we were sick of dealing with traffic and this location was right off the road. Probably the worst margarita I've ever tasted. Chips and salsa are mediocre at best. Water is served in plastic bottles, but they did not charge us for them. Menu items priced way too high. There is a reason for the multiple 1 star reviews, but I wouldn't agree with those that said it was only the food. The food was decent for a tourist based restaurant. I would, however, say that the reviews related to attitude of the staff are very on point. The staff came across as very "put out" in general. Additionally, given the pricing, it is a little ridiculous to only offer bottled water for sale. In my opinion, it is very unusual to be charged for water at a sit down restaurant. Finally, our table of four all ordered entrees and drinks. During our meal we asked for a basket of tortilla chips (which would have been our third basket). The waiter claimed after two baskets that they charge for additional chips. I asked the manager to show me where that is stated on the menu which she was unable to do. Honestly, I could care less about an extra dollar for a bottle of water or $2 charge for tortilla chips. The reality is, put a smile on your face, treat people nicely, and don't nickle and dime your patrons. I may not be a "regular", but am a patron and I do visit this area occasionally throughout a given year. read more

The meal started off on the wrong foot. We walked in the door with an empty cup to put in the trash, as there was trash can outside and the hostess snapped at us "No outside food!". My granddaughter put the empty cup then in the trash can. We sat outside and placed our orders. Our food came in 2 different deliveries. We had to ask for silverware and napkins, and she was surprised! How did she expect us to eat? She then just tossed them on the table instead of handing them to us individually. I had a taco salad with shredded beef. I got to enjoy it again later, when I threw it back up in my mouth and had to spit it out. Obviously, there was something wrong on with it. The kids liked their ground beef tacos, and the other had shrimp with rice. She passed on eating the coleslaw. The other adult had chicken fajitas and enjoyed hers. There was then an issue of flying gnats landing on our food. Yes, we were next to the river, and this problem is hard to prevent. Firstly I've been here in the past two different times over the few years & was excited to introduce my friend to a cool spot in town with a great view & ambience. This round was extremely poor service & food. Our water was unable to understand the basic "May I have salt and pepper please?" He literally could not fathom what I was asking for after 3 tries. Dropped off food and never came back, even to drop off the bill. Had to head inside to locate anyone. The food was terrible, ordered Shrimp Diablo which is a slow cooked in a thick salsa with Mexican chiles blended with spices. The sauce we got with the Diablo was a Chinese chile straight out of the jar mix, seeds and all. Both the corn and flour tortillas weren't warm and with out any color. These people here duping the average Tex-Mex eaters into thinking this is good food, it's not. This is NOT authentic, Mexican by any stretch of the means. Won't be back. read more

Walking distance from The Springs Resort. Large meals for a very reasonable price. During warm weather the patio has an excellent view of the River, Hot Springs , and the Resort. Revised 5/20: so my daughter and I are pretty sure we got food poisoning here. I have waited and tried to figure out ANY other possibility but it's the only place we ate out together and had similar things. And now my son has similar symptoms. Which if you want to know look up symptoms and we had them all pretty much. In my humble opinion the health department needs to come in, and maybe Chef Irvine from Restaurant Impossible. Also my daughter is on her way to ER because of a few of the symptoms. Initial review: We have been coming here on Pagosa visits for at least 10 years. Note Pagosa is small. Durango is huge compared to here. You can't expect what you would get in a big city as to variety. And they survived Covid which is saying something GOOD: Consistent- living in Albuquerque and prior in San Diego have had decades of good Mexican and New Mexican food. This satisfies if not exactly Sadie's or El Pinto in ABQ Good drinks- our kids (over 21 of course) like the drinks and margaritas. GREAT view- second only to the Overlook spa a block away NOT as GREAT: Water issue- yes they only have cheap bottled water you have to pay for Prices-higher than you expect for standard Americanized Mexican food. Service? I think service is okay. I don't like the comments about not speaking proper English as I feel it's judge mental and racist. Decor- it has that Baja or Cancun touristy type bright colors. We went for an early dinner, around 4:30 on a Thursday and there were only four tables to serve and it took a long time to get water, chips were never refilled nor were drinks, and a to go box and the check took a long time to arrive. But these days I almost prefer it in a bottle. I was given a glass of water at another restaurant in this town and there was something floating in it. We ate at Tequila's at 4pm on Tuesday, 3/28. The service was excellent and the food was plentiful and good. The restaurant wasn't busy and our server was attentive. Her English wasn't fluent (my Spanish is nonexistent, so more power to her), but she was diligent in clarifying our order and was very helpful while we made our selections. I don't like rice and beans, and she offered several suggestions for substitutions (I would have been happy without anything other than my chimichanga). As a pale person, the salsa and spicing verged on too hot for me, which probably means it's mild (or possibly medium) for everyone else. The guacamole was OUTSTANDING. Everything was fresh, my husband's steak was super flavorful, and he said his margarita was excellent. We ordered queso and 2 entrees and could have fed 4 more people. I imagine that on the weekends and during the season that this place is packed. Plan accordingly and eat on off hours and I think your experience will match ours. Located right near the scenic overlook we went on Christmas because it was the only place open. The waitress had a little bit of trouble understanding us food was reasonably priced large plates. It was kind of hard to find parking because they don't have their own parking lot so we parked down the street there was no waiting when we arrived. This is a very busy business. read more
