I don't think people go to this restaurant for the food. The rooftop experience is the main attraction. I found this place in my travel research and if you want great photos of the old town square then go here. You have to order something but it can be just drinks or dessert, it doesnt have to be a full meal. We had reservations for 9pm so we can see the sun setting and enjoy the city night lights. The view was priceless and totally worth going. If you want a romantic dining experience then book this place for a full meal sit down. My recommendation is dinner time because the night view is so much better than daytime view. Make reservations or else you wont get a seat. We ordered dessert and drinks, and they were pretty average for an upscale restaurant. I did see a lot of dishes pass by our table that smelled and looked delicious but didn't order any entrees. I think this place would have a higher rating for the food if it wasn't so expensive. When we got there the servers didn't want to greet us, so we walked over to two employees and asked if we could please get a table. One of them said "just sit" with a really cold face and the 4 other waiters/waitress we meet were not nice at all, no smiles, no asking if the food was okay (it was not) and one of them called my boyfriend a baby because he wasn't getting alcohol, but instead a coke. We agreed that this would not be the place for us to pay tips, since the service was absolutely shit and the food wasn't as expected and they did not care to take action. They forced us to pay tips. 12,5% is a lot when the food is overpriced and it is not deserved. Would NOT Recommend! On the 5th floor at the Hotel U Prince, you will find their restaurant, also known as The Terrace. Here you will find a good view of Old Town, Prague Castle, and surroundings. That day was quite an experience. We are enjoying the view, ordered our food... As soon as we're served, I feel a thing hit my head, it was a seat cushion that flew on me. Black clouds and terribly strong winds almost blew away the terrace cover. Everyone was rushed downstairs, just in time. As soon as we got inside "all hell broke loose"... heavy rain, and hail came pouring down. We all had to carry our own plates, drinks, everything, while the staff, and, some of the men eating there, held everything else from blowing away. You know it's bad when even the staff looked concerned, and doesn't do anything to hide it from their guest. But, thankfully, no one got hurt and, like I said, it was an experience. Servers worked quickly downstairs to accommodate us. They improvised a table inside for us, and another for the other couple that was still there (everyone else went to the bar). They apologized for the inconvenience and we resumed our dinner. I ordered the Chicken Stir Fry. Plates here are not big, but I was satisfied with mine. Chicken, peppers, mushrooms, and some seeds. The prongs with boiled potatoes were good too, and you can choose between 6 or 12 prongs. The Chicken plate with vegetables, was another winner. If you're very hungry, avoid the caprese salad. This was all lettuce, 3 mini cherry tomatoes, and about 2 mini mozzarella, and a lot of onions. Those in our party who ate it said it was good but definitely not enough. For drinks you have a wide variety to choose from: frozen drinks, cocktails, Martinis, shots, coffee drinks, and non- alcoholic mixes like the Coconut Dream which I was told was delicious. I had the Tiger Milk: kaluha, dark rum, creme the cacao, and cream, served in a mini martini glass with mint leaves. Not too sweet, so it was perfect for me. Since portions weren't big, and we couldn't go out because of the rain, we ordered dessert. Tiramisu was served in a Martini glass - very pretty, Creme Brûlée was big enough for two, although so good you might not want to share, and the Strawberries with Mascarpone was light, fresh, just perfect. After the long walks around 'Old Town' this is the place to go to relax, enjoy the view, and some good food and drinks. Just check the skies before you go upstairs, remember, if it looks like rain, stay away, unless you want a story to tell, like me. read more

I reserved a VIP Table from the US prior to arriving for our 25'th anniversary. I was afraid it was going to be tacky and the food not very good, wrong on both counts! The view was absolutely stunning and my wife and I loved our meals. If you can time your dinner with the sunset, it makes for a truly mesmerizing evening. Egor was kind and efficient but not intrusive, happy to let us enjoy the moment and the beauty around us. There is a minimum spend to secure the two VIP tables but well worth the price. We enjoyed Makers Mark Bourbon old fashions, a beautiful Austrian white wine with dinner and an excellent dessert. My ribeye steak fantastic, a jaw dropping evening for $160 US, worth every penny! read more

We went up to the top of Orloj and spotted an incredible rooftop. We decided to go there after we got down, but that wasn't so easy. Hotel U Prince does a really nice job of NOT advertising the rooftop. They've gotten a bit better, but it's still easy to miss and even easier to not have a clue it exists. With enough asking, you can sniff it out. You enter through the hotel doors, go up an elevator and a flight of stairs, and then you'll finally make it to the terrace. As others have unfortunately mentioned, the service staff are god awful. Being a Czech, this absolutely pains me. My mom was completely embarrassed; I ignored it for the photo opps. Many moons ago, I shared a couple cocktails with my friend on a frigid winter night. The heat lamps did a fantastic job, and we had the terrace to ourselves because A) it really was cold, and B) the place was damn near impossible to find. This time, my mom and I shared a tiramisu with an espresso and cappuccino. The tiramisu was brilliant. It is served in a large martini glass, and you can taste the liqueur. It's well-made and flavorful. Even I enjoyed it, and I'm not a fan of cakes and sweets. The coffee was good, and the prices of everything were triple what you'll pay anywhere else in Praha, and probably 10x the rest of the country. The view is worth it. There is something to see in every direction -- the Prague Castle, Orloj, Old Town Square, the Church of Our Lady before Týn, Christmas markets in winter... It's amazing. Well, this is not a review for the food, nor should it be. This place is all about the view! I pretty much spent my late lunch with my mouth hanging open in awe. To me, The Terrace is an absolute must-do on your visit to Prague. If it is your 1st day in the city this is an excellent way to get your bearings for the 5 districts composing Prague. I stuck to the salad and a glass of wine and the price was reasonable, even by Czech standards. Service was a bit brusque but I did not feel rushed in any way. Finding the place is a little tricky. Prince Hotel is right across from the Astronomical Clock. Take the elevator up or ask reception how to get up. Then absorb the views from every direction and giggle at the throngs of milling tourists clambering for pictures when yours will undoubtedly be better.:) Ignore the foodies. Just go. Your feet will appreciate the break and your eyes will experience lovely sensory overload. read more

I was recommended this place as it claimed to have the "best view in Prague". What they don't tell you is that you have to pay $15 for a champagne bottle to take a photo from the rooftop. False advertising for sure. Secondly, our food was disgusting. This was the most we paid for a meal and we could not even finish it. We attempted to add salt and pepper to give it some flavor but that was not enough. We each got the tiger prawn shrimp p and it looked nothing like the photo, no tomato, no basil, and no flavor. Basically, unflavored shrimp Alfredo. I was highly disappointed and will be sure to let people know that this place isn't worth it. Finally, they add a 12.5% service fee which hardly is worthy. Our waiter never spoke to us, gave us a drink with no alcohol, and was just plain nasty. read more

The view from the fourth floor is absolutely gorgeous, but it does come with a price. They charge restaurant tax and also automatically add tip onto your bill. I think ultimately the price is worth it, because a restaurant like this back in America would charge much more. One of my friends tried the liver and said it was the best liver he's ever had, and he's had a lot of livers. read more

I'm pretty shocked that people haven't given this place more stars but I have to assume it's because the food is not authentic and it's expensive. The view however is to die for and the food is rather good. As soon as we got to Prague this was our first stop. It's on the roof of the U Prince hotel and even in the winter it's spectacular. In the winter they have blankets and heaters all around and their roof is covered with clear roofing. It's a fabulous place to take pictures and take in your surroundings. We brought our 11 month old and he did great up there and had his own highchair. You can see a lot of Prague from up there but also have one of the best views in the city of the clock! read more

Here's an insider tip. On the rooftop of this hotel is a secret hideout called Cafe U Prince. It offers a relaxing enclave with pretty good views of astronomical clock and old town square. Bring your zoom camera, sip your cool cocktail in the shade as hapless tourists packed like sardines at the square sweat it out waiting for this clock to strike and deliver the chime and visual show, that is rated as among the "top 3 worst attractions" of Europe (to which I vehemently disagree). I love the clock though, and got a kick out of watching not just the clock, but virtually everyone in that sweaty crowd go: "that's it?!?". Hilarious. Hotel U Prince is an elegant hotel on Stare Mesto with a cafe downstairs and a romantic restaurant on the roof. I didn't stay in the hotel and I ate the cafe four years ago but I recently dined on the terrace. The terrace is a magical place, especially at night, although the food is OK, I would only go there for the view on the roof but not sure if the 400 CZK entrees are worth it. The only real Czech dish on the menu was the wild boar with rose hip sauce, which I am sure was something Charles the 4th was eating. They have Staropramen on draft for 90CZK which is double what you would pay anywhere else in Prague. read more

You could get there by a "secret" hotel lift, to the top floor (I think it would be the 4th or 5th floor), and you could enjoy really a breathtaking view to the Old Town Square, including the Medieval Astronomical Clock. Don't expect miracles from the kitchen, but go ahead and rely on a beautiful atmosphere, great beer, and a staff who speaks quite a good English, and who would be willing to joke with you about your tourist experience. I came without a booking, the entire terrace was empty and I got a whole snobby 'have you booked, have you booked?? You just want a beer??' Their menu is huge and has everything you can think of, from burgers to risottos to steak to pig's feet and dumplings to raw seafood platter....it's really insane. Unfortunately, as one would expect for a restaurant of a menu as vast is this, the quality of the food isn't so great. I had: - oxtail consomme with tortellini stuffed with oxtail and vegetables: The soup was bland and the tortellini didnt taste like it had any stuffing. - garlic prawns: passable, but not great. - duck confit- it was really overcooked and dry, barely edible. The service was almost non-existent. The server can never be found and we had to ask for water 5-6 times before we got any. The lady next to us got champagne and was told she's allowed to go take a picture in the "garden area" for that price. My partner then gets the champagne; I decline as I've already ordered the wine. You have to be holding the champagne glass to get over there so I figure I can just take hers. Nope - the waiter stops in front of me blocking me like I have a bomb in my hand. "I can't just take a quick pic?" I ask - no. Who cares that I ordered red wine, salmon, dessert... I didn't order the champagne lol so I can't go pose in the stupid garden.
