So how good a show will be here depends on the type of act you're seeing. The venue is like a giant warehouse pretty much (I'd say that's part of its charm). It's located on the west side by 12th Ave and is a bit of a schlep from the subway lines. Because it's such a large space, the sound quality is not so great. Unless you are seeing a loud, ruckus rock band, then it's cool (I saw Death From Above 1979 here and it was amazing). If you can, get there early so you can go to one of the balcony levels. Standing on the ground level is fine though, too. When I'm on the first floor, I like to stand by the bar area (you get your personal space and can still get a good view of the stage). It's cash bar, so hit up the ATM before you go to the venue. Drink prices aren't too bad here either. So have fun and check out a show at Terminal 5. I'd recommend going at least once to see what it's about. read more

Honestly don't understand why this venue has a 3 star Yelp rating. This place is becoming my favorite non-arena/stadium to see a show in NYC. It's unfortunate that others seem to have had not a good time but every time I attend a concert, I have a great time. Most recently, I saw X Ambassadors here. While the venue was packed (not sure if the show was sold out), there are plenty of places to hang out and enjoy yourself if you don't want to be thrown in the crowded GA floor area. With three levels and a rooftop bar/lounge area, there really isn't much more you can ask for. Plenty of upper side viewing areas as well as a bar on every floor. So why the deduction of a star? They got rid of the empanadas. When I saw the Mars Volta here back when the venue first opened, those empanadas were spot on. Oh well. The other reason is that it's kind of in the middle of no where. I wish there were more of a nightlife around the venue, somewhere close to party afterwards instead of walking/cabbing it to another place. Regardless, this venue is great and I can't recommend it enough to fellow concert goers. read more

Came here to see San Holo. We arrived about an hour before he was set to perform and there was still a line. The venue does a line for people with bags and people without, and I think most people know this by now so the bag line ended up being faster than the lines for people without bags lol. My friends and I got separated at the entrance and we had to walk up to the second floor to be reunited because they wouldn't let us cross over in the hallway, seems a bit poorly designed. Other than a few randomly placed chandeliers, Terminal 5 is pretty sparse in design. The bathrooms on the third floor, not the outdoor part, were the place to go as there was no line. The coat check line was horrendous so we decided to hunker down at a banister on the second floor and place our coats there. Fortunately we used the bar on the third floor on our trip back from the bathroom and there was no line for that. The concert was great, the venue has really good sound. Our view on the second floor wasn't the greatest because we were behind a column, so our group would rotate so every one could get a view. read more

I've been here to see several EDM artists perform here. Not a bad venue at all as there are three floors: the main dance floor, the 2nd floor balcony with a closed off VIP section, and the rooftop for designated smoking section. I don't have many complaints about this place. I mind my own business and just enjoy myself as much as possible, ignoring the other people who could potentially be on drugs. Sometimes being surrounded by sweaty, hairy males is not a bad thing. Especially if it's at an Opeth concert, where the flailing of the uncoordinated definitely adds to the experience. I love Opeth. I think Mikael Ackerfeld is amazing. Terminal 5 was a great venue to see the show - mainly because it was large enough to accommodate the die hard and their less interested companions. Not to mention that the bar on the second floor was huge and wasn't mobbed. I was able to take a breather, literally, on the rooftop where burgers and hot dogs were being cooked up. The (girls) bathroom was clean and functional and had...candy? Yes, it had candy...that was being shoved into my bag by an overzealous attendant. That strange moment aside, I had an amazing time. Only sour note (pun intended) of the show was the fact that the acoustics varied from area to area around the main pit. That and the amount of unwashed hair being flung about. Brrr. Kind of nice to reminice, I remember this place as more than just a concert venue. It was at one time Club Black and Club Exit, very famous club venue in the city. Maybe not for everyone, but for more underprivileged kids years ago like myself. This was the spot on sunday night, It seemed like the hood definitely came out to manhattan to go to Exit. R.I.P... so anyways just like people said this place is really huge. Maybe not the best concert venue in the world but it is fun. I was just here last wednesday August 31, 2011 for Samsung presented event Free Concert for Lenny Kravitz. I mean I am not gonna lie it is kinda tough to move around in this area, even for this free concert a trip out of "your spot" to the bathroom or the bar area was met with a groan due to all the pushing and shoving i would have to do to get back. Lenny Kravitz did put on a good show when he finally came out at 10:15 pm, did all the classic hits you love like "American Woman", "Fly" and "Baby it ain't over till its over" (that was the one I was waiting to here).I have to say , it was a great time overall. @Terminal 5, The acoustics were great, yeah the floors were very randomly sticky for some reason, I guess all the hipsters kept spilling their beer and no one cleans it up. Came here twice to see Eric Prydz....untz untz untz. It's way over on the west side but the venue is not bad. The show was amazing with high production value but then again it is eric prdyz 4.0 so I guess this is expected. It's bascially a square floor with a bar downstiars. The upstairs balcony thing is way better cuz u can def see the stage better. He basically spun in a cube and made it rain like it looked like it was raining as if he was controlling the weather. Pretty cool stuff. Not sure how the venue is when non-EDM is playing but out of all the clubs I've been to in DC, Philly, and NYC this place is seriously not bad. Drinks aren't that pricey. A-PLUS! My company held it's conference after-party here. It was a good time but the layout is a bit chaotic being spread over three levels (I think???) The first issue is when over 2,000 people arrive in in buses-it's just a madhouse getting in not to mention trying to get a drink at the bar or getting some food. They gradually opened up more of the area and things started to even out but imagine being initially packed into a smaller space with all of those people. This was during the heatwave mind you so it was like being in a sauna. Once things did even out there were plenty of places to dance and view the band that was hired to play. Despite the heat the roof top area was a nice place to retreat and get away from all of the people. The one thing that was bad were all of the stairs and how steep and uneven they were.Granted most events held here are probably more casual but we were guys in suits and LOTS of ladies in gowns and high heels making the stairwells were nothing short of treacherous for them. read more

Prior to going to the show, I heard mixed reviews about this place. It was either, "This venue is awesome!!!" Or "Yeah... this place is pretty bad." So I basically went in with no expectations. I was wondering why Fall Out Boy chose a smaller venue for their reunion tour. (Then found out they had no idea it was going to sell-out so fast so they expanded their road tour into an area tour... hence Barclay's show in Sept 2013.) Either way, I was going to go. I didn't care if they were going to hold it in Penn Station, I wouldn't miss this for the world. I was happily surprised how much I enjoyed Terminal 5! From the combination of punk/emo/alt rock fans, I assumed there would definitely be a wave of crowd surfing and mosh pits. So no floor for me. Maybe I'm getting too old for that. *Sigh* There is a ground level (fairly average in size) with floorspace and a nice big ol' bar in the back. (By the way, drinks aren't too bad. $7-8 for a beer on tap.) Then there are two additional levels to stand surrounding the entire venue. My friend and I decided on the 2nd level because we would still be fairly close and we could see the entire stage without having crazy angsty teens jumping right into us. The view was great! We somehow managed to get right up against the banister on the 2nd level and had a perfect dead center view. Oh and there was another bar on that level too. Big plus. The place was well air conditioned. Well... of course that ended quickly. By the end of the night, with me belting the songs at the top of my lungs and dancing the whole night...we were all crazy sweaty. The best and worst parts of a good concert. On a side note (not really relating to the actual venue): Fall Out Boy was simply amazing. I've been a fan since their first album came out in 2003. "Take This To Your Grave" got me hooked ever since. So happy they ended their hiatus from 2009 and I'm glad their back and with a vengance. And! The opening band "New Politics" was awesome. Been here to see shows a few times already and we have to say that the acoustics here are far superior to most of the medium-sized venues the city. The bass will rearrange your organs. But. There's always a but. All that goodness is ruined by crap sight lines and near dangerous conditions of cramped exits - when the show ends, there is basically one very narrow exit path and as it runs right by the merchandise counter where folks are still trying to buy shirts, you get massive congestion. read more

Depending where you stand, sound quality can range from OK to WTF... Don't get stuck underneath a mid range speaker on the second balcony... your ears will bleed. Staff treats you like a herd of cattle. Drinks are expensive ($8 for a bud feels like I'm getting robbed). This club ACOUSTICALLY SUCKS, unless you are standing towards center rear of main floor, the sound is utter shyte. I will also question the safety and structural integrity of the mezzanine levels... they were shaking so much from hundreds of synchronized people jumping on it that at one point I thought it was surely going to collapse. Also let's pray there is never an emergency where everyone needs to promptly evacuate the building at the same time. You will probably die. read more

I have such a love/hate relationship with Terminal 5 in that I love to hate on it. The sound system is one of the worst I've ever seen for such a big venue. I do love that they get a lot of great acts to play here (I've seen Metric, Stars, Mumford & Sons, Florence + The Machine, among others), but it's totally out of the way (the walk from Columbus Circle really sucks when it's raining or winter). The rooftop bar is actually pretty cool (they make you wait up there to get in if it's nice out), and sometimes the wristbands they give out are awesome (got a Space Invaders one before). Their camera policy typically allows anything without detachable lenses. So one time I brought a bridge camera (bigger than a point and shoot but not DSLR sized) and got through security at the entrance after showing it to them. But then I got called out by security on the second floor and they forced me to check it in. Super lame, but luckily someone held my spot. Also, there will most definitely be young kids (sometimes with their parents) at these shows. So watch out for teeny boppers with somewhat good taste in music, but the most annoying conversations ever. I've witnessed no fewer than 3 fights break out between teenage girls at Terminal 5. read more

Lousy lousy sound. Thought that maybe the artists performing at the PLUG Awards sucked.. but the sound system was really to blame this time. Came back to catch my #1 band, Explosions In The Sky... and the bass was way too heavy and static-ky.. the sound not captured well in such a spacious (read: rave like, three stories) venue. Also, there was a douche bag crowd standing to the back of the place talking really loudly despite being yelled at several times to shut the eff up and show some respect. Seriously? You trekked out to a concert venue on 11th avenue, paid for a ticket to the sold out show, JUST to stand around talking loudly to your fatass coworker? Are you for real? I'd like to see this place as a rave... and less as a concert venue. I'm sad that so many good bands are starting to play this large space with crappy sound. Ew. read more

I saw my first show here a few weeks ago and really can't complain much about the experience. It's true that it's a bit of a walk from the nearest subway line, but on a nice night it's really not bad. Worst case scenario, take an uber or via. I found every single staff member I came across to be pleasant and friendly. There is a semi-covered rooftop area where I waited until doors opened since I arrived early. It's not nice by any means, and I was glad when they finally let us inside. The venue inside is dark and industrial. It is standing room only, unless you reserve a table in their VIP section I guess you can call it. There are three levels. I perched myself on the right side of the second level balcony, which offered a perfect view of the stage and wasn't too close to the speakers. There really is no terrible view of the stage since the room isn't huge, unless you don't arrive early enough to get a front spot leaning on the balcony. There are multiple bars on all levels, and they have complimentary self-serve water and cups. The Empire of the Sun show I went to was sold out so I was concerned about taking forever to exit the venue based off other reviews, but there was an exit door right by our spot and it didn't take long at all. read more

Though I do think its a little unsafe. Its such a massive venue with a huge floor and 2 (or 3?) upper balconies, but at the end of the show everyone herds around this one set of double doors to get out, which creates a ridiculous bottle neck. I see a lot of negative reviews but I had a blast here! I actually loved the 3 floor set-up. It's great depending on your drug of choice - if you're drinking and want to get rowdy in the pit or jump around in front of the stage - stay downstairs. You want to pop molly or drop acid or whatever and need a little more space - proceed to the top 2 floors. Lots of room to walk around and explore. The vibe here is cool too, black lights in the bathroom. I hung out at the top floor and had a fantastic time. There are couches and plenty of room to dance, hang out. If you hate people and don't want them near you but still want to see your favorite band live - this venue is great for you. You have a great aerial view of the stage as long as you stay by the edge. I thought the sound quality was great. Lots of bathrooms. I saw Gogol Bordello (awesome band to see live!) here and ended up backstage, it was a weird, crazy night. Good times!! Oh and I am sure drinks are overpriced - that's anywhere, c'mon get your pregame on. read more

So much promise, but falls short. Went to a concert here a while back - it was my first and only time in here, but it's enough to warrant this review. First off, the place is a nice space and I'm not sure of it's history, but it seems to me that this would make an excellent club with it's 3 floors more than a concert venue. For this show, we ventured to the top left side - kind of uncomfortable in leaning on the rail for 3 hours, but we didn't get there in enough time to snag one of the chairs or a spot more centered. The location is kind of out of the way and finding decent street parking was a little hassle (I won't pay for those over priced garages). Then there was a long line getting in, so naturally we weren't among the first, but still got there ahead of most, since the place filled up and my once adequate spot became more 'squishy'. The bathrooms are unique, with one little room per patron, with this cool blue light inside. Not overly clean, but not the worst toilet I've ever seen. I never bothered to sample the bar, since it was largely riddled with patrons on all floors, so I can't comment on the drinks or food, if there was any. I skimmed some of the other reviews - I'm not one of those who cares to over-examine the perfect number the acoustics of a place should be- but from my vantage point, the music sounded just fine and was what I expected. It's a nice size place, but if you're in the wrong spot, it's going to not be a fun time viewing an actual show. My biggest complaint about this place was exiting. Normally, I expect the exit hassle from leaving a large venue, like MSG or something of that size. Being on the 3rd floor, I had no idea it would take as long as it did leaving the place. People were pushing each other, the crowd was slow moving, and of course, idiots in the crowd who like to cut others off helped delay the exit. I blame it on the place, which basically bottle necks the crowd out of only the main doors, when easily it could make things go faster and more smoothly by using the side exits. By the time I was outside of the place, I was so overjoyed at the torture it took just to get to that point was over. I was angered at the hassle, but happy to finally be outside of that place. They need some exit control and a better plan. Kind of 50/50 on whether or not I'll see a show there again. Granted some artists only perform in that size place, so I'm going to have to wait until that comes up before I make a decision. If I do, I'll be sure to sample a drink at least and either improve or reduce the rating here. read more

Went to see Steve Lacy and the show was great, he is so hot and such a great performer. HOWEVER. THE VENUE WAS HORRIBLE. FIRST OFF they did not let us inside until 20 minutes before the show AND THEN. The opening act did not start until an hour after we got in. Then we waited ode for the main act. AND THEN WHEN LEAVING. they only have one tiny exit to get out off RIGHT NEXT TO THE MERCH. so nobody could get out. Felt more unsafe here than in rolling loud. read more

I had heard mixed reviews of Terminal 5 before seeing my first show there, back in mid-April. But, I tend to take any EXTREMELY positive or negative venue reviews with a grain of salt. I mean, c'mon, a concert venue can only be so god-awful/exquisite. I feel like if you're giving any venue a 5 star rating, you were probably that drunk, obnoxious guy who chugged a tall boy and puked on my shoes. And 1 star reviews tend to be about one particular situation that happened while they were there, that ruined their time. I'm always willing to take my chances with a new venue. -The venue itself has really rocking, industrial atmosphere. Larger than the smaller venues I typically opt for, yet still intimate. It's set up like a cube, so I can imagine you'll get a decent view no matter where you are. Although I didn't go up on the second or third levels, they seemed great for anyone who isn't into being shoved around on the on the floor level. I'm not one of those people and prefer the floor/pit, but hey, it seemed cool for more low-key people who want the show without the shenanigans that come with being in the pit. A+. -I've heard some negative things about the sound quality and acoustics, but I thought it seemed alright and wouldn't complain. I've definitely heard worse. The show was phenomenal, but I'm not here to rate the band. -The staff didn't seem any ruder than most staff I've encountered and I didn't have any issues with them. I've just accepted the fact that a decent amount of venue staff tend to be rude. It's not a big deal for me. They all just seem fed up with trying to deal with teenagers everyday and although it may not be justifiable, it's understandable. Tip: Don't start problems, don't get thrown out. It's typically that easy. -I also heard Terminal 5 attracts a lot of crazy kids, and they weren't kidding. While they didn't come near the level of crazy that you'll see in a lot of the Philadelphia crowd (no offense, guys, you know you party hard), they were definitely willing to kill you AND security to get to the front. That being said, I'm not basing my review on the crowd. -My main issue was the lack of people being checked by security before being allowed to enter the venue. Call me a whiny, I don't care, but I'd prefer to not get knifed in the middle of the pit when it could have been avoided. They took everyone out of a single file line outside and told everyone to just gather around the entrance. There was no logic to it. This was a sold out show and people who showed up last minute were suddenly right next to people who had been camped out since 5 AM. Uncool. Two guys came out to check bags, but because there was no longer a line, 40% of the crowd rushed past them and weren't checked. I don't know if this is typical of Terminal 5, but poorly organized security would be the only reason I may never go back to this venue. -My second issue was that nowhere was it stated that "Doors at 7 PM" actually meant "We let you in the building at 5:30 PM, then we let you in the stage area at 7 PM". Both my ticket and the venue website stated that the show began at 8 PM and doors were at 7 PM. I don't know if this is normally how the venue works, but it was my first time there and it should absolutely have been posted somewhere. I had gotten in line earlier in the day, so the 5:30 doors wasn't exactly an issue for ME, but a lot of people who showed up at 6 PM weren't so lucky. All in all, if security was more organized, I'd likely return to Terminal 5 if a favorite artist was performing. read more

Ok, it's true.. The line begins at the entrance and ends in the Hudson River -- It's true - that it's hard to find the merchandise section and when you do the line is not organized. It's true the beer/ chips/ water are over priced. It's true that it's all general admission -- but it's also true that I've been to some sick ass concerts here. & for that reason alone, they are granted with 4 stars at least. The most recent concert that I've been to was to see Joey Bada$$. I took my 19 year old lil bro and honestly - thank GOD the floor was too packed for us to go on - cause the concert was LIT like a Long Island Iced Tea... I'm talkin' all different types of flavors. The crowd was jumping, the vibe was chill and even though we waited a good hour and some change in line - it as expected cause the tickets were dirt cheap and YET we were still able to see an arial view of the stage due to the balconies and how it's a far chance to get a good spot! It's a grungy night club in the city - get over it. It's unfortunate they don't sell VIP tickets, but honestly it's nice that they have a section for the performers families/friends - Just expect the unexpected - get there early, DON'T break the seal (or you'll lose your spot) & enjoy the music. read more

It is what it is. Some of the most talked about performers pass through Terminal 5, and at some point or another, you may want to go this venue... you may love it, you may hate it. I take the middle ground. Trying to watch in a prime spot is rough. It is not the kind of place where you can just show up when the band starts and expect to get a great view. More often than not, the glimpses of the stage & music you catch are pretty rare. If you weasel your way in to the top balcony or if you are willing to duke it out and make your way up front, then you have earned your spot... otherwise, it's difficult as hell to see the performers. As a note, I am not willing to do either of the following: - A.) Abandon my friends just to get stage-front and B.) Push & kick my way through a densely, densely packed crowd. If you can make it into the back-middle of the dance floor, which is certainly possible, T5 opens up a bit, at least insofar as much as you can have dancing room and still catch a few glimpses of the stage. The fact that it gets crowded is an understatement. Most shows at Terminal 5 are usually a fire hazard. The security is tough because they have to be - they over sell tickets (or so it seems), and it's a high-risk venue. The rooftop outside lounge is a chill spot to catch a smoke and a drink - the bar is line-less - keep this little area in mind if you lose your friends and you need to rendezvous. I have seen some of my most desirable acts at T5 - I have left covered in sweat, tears, and booze, and I am never disappointed. read more

TOO DAMN HOT! Went with my brother and a friend to go see Nine Inch Nails' 'New Wave Goodbye' tour at Terminal 5. It should have been an amazing experience, but Terminal 5 really let us down. None of the security nor event staff knew where to go. Considering this was a 'no paper ticket' event, it is pretty important to be in the right place. Most were friendly, which was surprising considering what most Yelpers had written, but had little clue as to where we should go. I got more information from the crowd than the workers, and we ended up helping many others as well. TicketMaster employees went through the crowd scanning info and giving out the bracelets; but then randomly just stopped, leaving many wondering what was going on. Some people were agitated believing even though they had paid, would not be getting a "ticket". They ended up receiving them last minute by the entrance, but had no info until that time. Doors opened later than expected, and everyone was herded through the relatively small (for the crowd size) entrance. Groups were expected to stay together (ID of "ticket" purchaser was checked and re-checked) but was nearly impossible due to the massive amounts of people. Large open area on the first floor with a few (2?) bars. I wanted to go to the second floor, and again had to ask a few employees if we could even go without a definite answer. Second floor is nice, with a large bar off to the side. We never made it up to the roof-top bar for fear we would loose our spots by the balcony. The second floor is like a large 'U' with one fat side focused on the stage. Great views from almost anywhere; though at 6'2", few people could block my view. For some reason they have large flat-screen TVs right in the front of the middle section on the seconds floor. I find this odd since those are the people with the best views, and putting a TV in front does nothing but obstruct the view (even though just slightly). Move them back more to really be effective. As I mentioned earlier, the venue seemed to have opened late; big mistake on managements part. When you charge $9 for what would equate to a shot of Captain and Coke anywhere else... getting customers in ASAP should be your main focus. The sound was great! We had a great view of the stage from almost anywhere; though, having a great spot helped out tremendously. The employees were very nice, and I assume most of the procedural hiccups were more TicketMaster's fault than their own. Drinks were on the expensive side, but what else is to be expected from a concert in NYC? Many complain about this location being 'out-of-the-way"; and it is, but only by a few blocks at most. Suck it up and walk a little! Easy cab ride, several subway stops only a few blocks away, and a parking deck across the street. My main complaint... and this is a huge one!!!...was the lack of any sort of ventilation or climate control. We were sweating profusely before the concert even started, and it only got worse!!! Imagine a hot, humid, August day in New York... and imagine that same scenario with hundreds of other people crammed in a tight venue. Not very pleasant. I am amazed no one fainted, I felt myself get a little light-headed towards the end of the evening, and definitely had signs of dehydration. My friend arrived late and told us they were giving out small bottles of water at the entrance. I saw very few people with them, so I can only imagine they began doing so much later into the evening. They were giving out free cups of water, but no mention was made of this to the crowd, you had to figure it out on your own. Even then, it was a pain to loose your spot and go wait in line at the bar for a cup of water that would have been half spilled by the time you got back to where you were. Overall, a pretty good venue (if I go back it would be in the fall/winter), but with one MAJOR flaw. Had I reviewed this last night, I would have tried giving it negative stars, and there would have been much more foul language in this write-up. read more

Terminal 5 - NIN 'New Wave Goodbye' Concert - 2ndfloor - Music Venues Near Me - New York, New York

A great venue for shows, I've been here on a half dozen occasions for the different EDM shows, such as Illenium, Mitis, and others. Its a pretty standard venue with several different levels if you don't want to be down in the crowd. The bars are always packed and it can be difficult to get a drink. The drinks are expensive, but its NYC and if you're nice, they give you a good ratio of liquor to chaser. There's plenty of space to dance and most people are pretty friendly at EDM shows. The bathrooms get a little mobbed between sets, but they move along quick. The lack of a strict dress code makes for a more relaxed atmosphere. They make you go through a metal detector and will quickly pat you down, but safety has never been a concern for me. Hard to grab a cab after if you go right outside, but only an avenue over, you'll have no problem. Will continue to come back. read more

Came here to see Thievery Corporation last night. There was no line to get in, but they did search us. My BF has a mini rubber ducky keychain and when the bouncer searched him, he felt this bump in his jean pocket and asked him to show him what it was. Lo and behold! It was the rubber ducky, and the bouncer actually chuckled a bit! It was cute... In any case, the place is cavernous, like a club should be! It has 3 floors. The alcohol was OK priced, $7 for a Sierra Nevada on tap. The stage was elevated, so we could see everything, which was nice. Sound system was good. A bit deafening, but hey, its a club! I am not a big fan of live music, but there was a band I really liked playing at Terminal 5, so I made my first visit. I got there a bit early as I don't like waiting in long lines and all sorts of related BS. The security line moved along smoothly, first showing some guy my ID and then being patted down by some other guy. I had tickets at will call and the ticket window staff was very professional and quickly found my tickets. The concert space itself is a big general admission rectangle with a few levels looking down into the main floor. Visibility of the stage is great from any place on the main floor. The upstairs has some seating along the wall if you need a break from rocking out, but unless you are right along the railing looking over on the stage, you can't see anything. Two long, well lit, straight hallways connect the main concert floor with the street, so no sketchy staircases, dark corners or bottlenecks hold things up when everyone leaves after the show. The acoustics are pretty good, IMO. However, it gets a bit bass-heavy if you are in the back part on the second floor. read more

Mid-sized venue showcasing some great artists. I saw Glass Animals here--and they were fantastic. The venue itself is a three level massive room, but it is a bit compact and difficult to for a lot of the audience to see the act. The location is a bit far out to the west in Hell's Kitchen. If your favorite artist is not performing at another better laid out venue, I recommend coming here early so that you can scope out a good spot. read more

Been here a few times for various genres of music, mostly recently EDM (A Trak, Thomas Jack) and rock shows (Sleater Kinney). Terminal 5 is a cavernous 3 floor venue that holds thousands. I like it because it's size allows for unique experiences and views each time. Each performer brings their own stage setup and chooses their own special effects (streamers, balloons) so it varies but are overall nice. A huge tip is that there are bars and couches along the walls on each floor so don't feel stuck by the entrance! There is usually a long line at the bar right by the entrance when the bars on the upper floors are empty. The third floor has a water cooler with cups too! There is a venue exit from the second floor that ends up closer to the main entrance. Can't give it 5 stars because it's location on 12th Ave is incredibly inconvenient. read more

I just visited this venue for the first time last week to see a band I have been following for a few weeks. I was able to see that band at a few other venues on this tour, but unfortunately it was my first NYC concert so I can't compare to local venues. The crowd for this show was my favorite on this tour. I had a blast with everyone around me. Security was great about dealing with people who were getting a little too rowdy after too many drinks. Speaking of drinks though.... they have a one drink per wristband policy. GREAT in theory. I totally understand the point of it. Except when you just want to do a shot and have a drink to sip on... no shot for me. Or if you are on the barricade and you are bringing a drink to the person holding your spot for you. Thankfully I was friends with the girl at the merch booth who helped me by looking after drink one. It was way too complicated, and I couldn't even buy her a drink to thank her for watching the first drink. It was overly complicated, but whatever. Those are the rules here. Next show I come to here if I want to drink I will show up with a nice buzz first. The stage here was great and I loved the way it was set up with all the balcony space. I imagine it is a pretty great view for the performers. Overall I had a good experience here. It was just tricky with the alcohol. It was worth the roadtrip to catch another show on their tour. The sound and lights were great and the energy throughout the venue was just fantastic! I'll be back in a few months! read more

I came here for a concert and the place was nicely packed, but with a good vibe and courteous crowd. The lines to get inside was efficient, with many security staff stationed at the entry to move it along. The space inside was quite dark, but felt cavernous because its an open-air venue. We were on the ground floor pretty close to the stage, where its standing room only, and had a good view of the stage. It was a chill atmosphere that evening with no one acting too rowdy so the experience was enjoyable. The wait at the bar wasn't crazy though we also didn't order anything crazy, just a couple Heinekens. Throughout the evening people began milling around, and we got to explore a few different sections since the space was spread out on multiple levels. Bathroom were up a few stairs and surprisingly clean. Overall a nice venue and I wouldn't mind checking out other artists in this chill space. read more

I went here last Saturday for the They Might Be Giants show. Generally, I'm not a fan of the whole concert going experience to start with and my experience here didn't change that view. Don't get me wrong, the show itself was fun & even the opening act was pretty good since their music was at least related in scope to the headliner. But it's the other aspects that bother me. Ready? First off, standing room only venues are no fun if you're over a certain age or have medical conditions. My husband learned that the hard way. There's also the hazard of dealing with pushy, rude concertgoers that get in your way & block your view. Maybe they should start organizing in height order; I have some height but I can understand why someone shorter would hate it. We had good spots but based on reviews concerning the view here, maybe they should consider such a system. Hope you never have to go to the bathroom or suffer from hunger or thirst because you will never get your spot again if you leave while at a standing room only concert. Second, we were placed in a holding area on the rooftop garden that had no shelter from the elements (unless you ended up under the stairs & floors they connected to). Thankfully it wasn't too cold outside but it would be terrible to have to stand in line there if the temperate is boiling or freezing. You also had to go BACK downstairs to get into the room where the show was being held. The food apparently isn't all that great either, at least the beef jerky. One guy was trying to give his jerky away while the line was moving & said it sucked. They also don't allow you to bring water in this venue (I saw the security person at the entrance tell someone as much) so God only knows if they offer tap water or not. People rioted at Woodstock in '99 because of obscenely priced tap water, you know. It's not just rich people who have health conditions. For the obscene prices, the food should be gourmet level (though at least the portions appear to be fair). Drinks however aren't a fair size, which is yet another reason I'm not a regular concert attendee. Third, they were playing songs that had ZERO relation to the band we were seeing. In fact, they were just playing current crap that most of the crowd didn't want to hear. At one point, people were cheering when songs ended & there was silence. The DJ is also risking a lawsuit with how high that bass was turned up. In the break between the opening act & They Might Be Giants, the bass was so bad I felt organs vibrating and a couple in front of us had to move because they couldn't physically take it. Aside from my general feeling about concerts, I would avoid this particular venue purely based on other tips and reviews about it concerning the view, the holding area, etc. The room would be great for a film company to use as a location but this is far from the ideal place to see a show. It works better as a simple nightclub. read more

The concert venue that you dreamed of as a high schooler. One huge room with multiple floors, the auditorium-like stage at the center of it all. The stage is pretty visible from anywhere in the venue, but I'd recommend getting there early to secure your desired spot. They serve alcohol and soda, as well as a few types of snacks (chips, candy bars, etc). The acoustics seem pretty good, and the drinks aren't insanely priced. The bathrooms are staffed with an attendant and as a result, they're kept pretty clean. I steered clear of the open standing area on the main floor (because it seemed pretty packed and intense), but there's definitely more breathing room as you head upstairs. They also have a VIP section with a few more tables and seats, but again, this also seems to get overbooked (SO ARRIVE EARLY). Tickets are affordable because this place is no frills. Terminal 5 gets four stars in my book. read more

Extremely disrespectful, rude and borderline racist staff. The venue is very dirty and unkempt as well. Went there for a concert and left disappointed and disgusted. From the minute I got in line with my friends and dealt with the nasty bag/body checkers to the impatient bartender... It was horrible. Sound quality could be described as barely halfway decent (nothing compared to output, pacha, etc) Would never go back for any event. Wasted my money for a terrible time. Better off going to pacha, marquee, penthouse dream, etc. read more

Came here for a Symphony X and Overkill concert. Nice venue, i like the fact they had the big bar in the back and then another station setup near the bathroom hallway selling drinks too. Made for quicker service at both locations. $8 for a Budweiser, ehh i mean you gotta expect that. Sound system sounded awesome, bathrooms were surprisingly clean and the attendant had some good candy in there. I didnt get to see any of the other floors, they were blocked off to special guests and the whole 3rd floor was closed, even with a packed house on the first floor though i still had a good time. I'd imagine this place gets a little overly packed though for a more mainstream show. read more
