I've been a big fan of Tero's for years, probably dining here at least once a month. Having recently moved to Lyndhurst it's now within walking distance, Tero's has become a once a week spot. I can usually be found at the bar. It's the kind of spot that the locals and repeat customers frequent. There's always friendly conversation to be had with the staff and other like minded diners. The drinks are very reasonably priced, most at $10. There's an all day happy hour menu, not enormous but some good bar bites. Shrinkflation?! Not here. Portions are very generous and I don't think the prices have gone up in years. Most people will go home with leftovers. On a recent visit we ordered the Chicken Pot Pie special. Not only was it delicious, it could've fed at least 2 people ($22) My go-to is the Ribeye with Hot Cherry Peppers. Always a beautiful plate of deliciousness. If you love Spanish/Portuguese food, no need to drive down neck- Tero's has got you covered. BTW, down miss an Espresso Martini for a nightcap. Seriously one of the best I've ever tried! read more

This is our 2nd visit. The food is not really worth the prices. The fried calamari had breadcrumbs instead of batter. In order to get that cooked, the actual calamari was overdone. The mussels were awful. Our choice was spicy or green. The liquid looked like dirty dish water and I guess that is what dirty dish water tastes like. It was more of a soup. My father loved the Del Monaco steak. A bit too fatty for me tho. The sides of rice and veg were perfection. I ordered a seafood dish and was very disappointed. The mussels were huge shells but scary looking tiny mussels. It was the same with the mussels appetizer. And they use TINY shrimp!! They over cooked it as well. It's restaurant! They should serve big, plump pieces of seafood, not shoprite sale items. Our waiter was a lot of fun and the dessert was excellent and his back up team were very nice. . We might try once more. I was visiting the area from out of town and happened upon Tero's accidentally. The very first thing I noticed when entering was that it was a Friday night prime dinner time... and there was only one other occupied table in the entire restaurant. I also want to note that the decor is very formal and stuffy with thick white table cloths. I also did not enjoy the food whatsoever. I got the chicken cutlets dinner with garlic sauce. The chicken was thicker than I expect for a cutlet and it was soggy and slimy. Both the rice and vegetables were bland and those are the two sides that come with most entrees at the restaurant. If I lived in the area, I would absolutely choose to cook my own food before spending money on the food at Tero's. Additionally, their food prices are extremely high due to giving you ridiculously massive portions. I would have appreciated the option to get a smaller portion for a cheaper price, because three whole chicken cutlets just seems excessive to me. The one star with this review is to shoutout the great service staff at Tero's. When I expressed not liking my food they tried to ask if there was anything they could do to help. One of the things I miss about New Jersey is the great Portuguese restaurants in Iron Bound.  Well, let me tell you we found one on this trip in Lyndhurst.  Tero occupies two store fronts on Ridge Road.  One side is a good old neighborhood bar. The other is the dining room.  We enjoyed a terrific seafood paella with mussels, clams, shrimp, and scallops.  It was the best I've had in a long time.  We also had delicious chicken cutlets in garlic sauce, served with red peppers, green beans, and potato crisps. Street parking only.  Dining room has dark wood and hard surfaces.  Service was slow, as others have mentioned -- e.g., salads were served before the drinks we had ordered. Overall, a nice experience, and we'd return for Portuguese dishes when we're in the area again. read more

Our cousins brought us here and we were not disappointed!!!! The food was delicious!!! All the dishes were so flavorful, the grilled octopus was perfection and our steaks were perfectly cooked and also wonderfully flavored! The establishment was spotless and service was impeccable ! After reading a few of the most recent comments, I was extremely hesitant about coming here. Nevertheless, I had such a craving for paella, I decided to roll the dice. To start off with, we ordered the fried calamari. My wife is always nervous with this item when we go out because it's either really good or really bad. This was really good. Not chewy at all and obviously fresh. I had to ask for another side of marinara but that's minor. The paella was excellent. Completely satisfied my craving. The portion was huge and this is coming from someone that can eat. I took a little less then half home. I got the paella Valenciana. Over loaded with seafood and chicken. My wife got the skirt steak and she said it was very good. I didn't try it, so this small segment is hearsay. To accompany our meal, we had a pitcher of sangria. The sangria was average. We've had better but it definitely wasn't one of the lower rung sangrias we've had. Service was on point. Very attentive and accommodating. My very first Yelp review ever?! From over a decade ago?! And it's only one of four places I ever 'awarded' a one-star-review to?! Perhaps it was time to revisit Tejo's and see what's what. The place looks nice inside, the staff are friendly, I think it's going to be a good visit. But... we're forgotten about after being seated. To the point that we're now debating if we should just leave since no one is coming to our table. Eventually our order is taken and I'm back to thinking it's going to be a good visit. But... my French onion soup arrives and it's bland. Not only is it lacking in depth and richness but the onions have zero caramelization and more than a few are actually 'crunchy' (like they could've still been used in a sandwich or on top of a burger). Entrees - one kid's steak is cooked well (enough) but it's tough. Like - your forearms start to feel the burn from trying to saw through it. The other kid's pork dish he initially seemed to enjoy but after a few cubes - he gave up trying to trim away all the fat. And I went with their shrimp in garlic sauce and thought it was fine. Potatoes, rice, veggies - all plentiful and tasty. I can't in good conscious give them 3-stars but 1-star is too harsh. (And I don't see myself venturing back here any time soon.) read more

This past Monday, we dined at Tero's. This was the first time dining at Teros in a few years. While the restaurant looked the same( pleasant and homey) and the service was good , our meal was terrible. We began with the avocado and crabmeat appetizer. It was tasteless and mushy . Not good at all. Next came the soup which is included in the price of your meal. It was watery and again tasteless. For an entre I had the Lobster with fried shrimp, fried calamari and fried scallops. The fried items were soggy and greasy. The lobster shell was rubbery and difficult to open. The shell was not crisp as they usually are and so you did not need a lobster cracker to open the shell. The lobster meat was rubbery and tough. The lobster may have been frozen and quick thawed. Just my guess. Basically this meal was inedible. My girlfriend had the Skirt Steak with Crab Claws. Again the claws were rubbery. Crab meat was tough and the Skirt Steak was the same, tough and fatty.. This was not what we expected of the Tero's. read more

We love supporting Tero and Maria for years. They are always good to us. Recently we ordered catering for a birthday party and it was delicious. Half tray of picadinho was eaten so fast! I wish I did a full tray. And then a tray of garlic shrimp and rice... my childhood favorite... still just as good. My husband and I went here last night for our anniversary. Let me tell you, you need to get there because the food is AMAZING!!!! We ordered appetizers, raw clams on the 1/2 shell and oysters Rockefeller. The waiter forgot to put them in so we had them at the end of our dinner. Look, I get it, people have a lot on their minds lately. It was a genuine accident and I just hope the poor guy didn't get into much trouble. The owner didn't charge us for that or the grilled chicken Caesar salad for my daughter. Anyway, dinner was shrimp in garlic sauce (my husband) and I had Mariscada verde. The atmosphere is pleasant. The Combination paella was flavorless and there was too much liquid in the bottom of the pot. We asked that they not include the peas, but there they were. Saffron does not add flavor. Chef, don't be afraid to add some seasoning to the food. The steaks were good and tender. The french fries were questionable. In search of a new sangria spot , i googled and this place popped up . I have literally passed this place hundreds of times. Only 1 mile from by home .it's a neighborhood time haunt , think Cheers (NORM !!! ) for the old skool like me . The bar area wasn't full but the dining room was completely empty . That alone arouses suspicion . My waitress was her first day , Yessenia . My white sangria was a bit watery , but she was happy to oblige and follow my instructions for improving it and Viola ,, good sangria ! For starters , i had beef empanadas, it was a bit over fried , on the dry side , the meat was okay . My main course scallops on bed of spinach with rice . I was surprised not to get the ubiquitous thin fried sliced potato chips ? . that's like the Iberian staple ?? My fish was mushy, a bit salty but okay . Dessert was key lime pie , i skipped the typical flan , since i make the best ! no need to order that out . Good selection of desserts but all are frozen pre-made type you can tell , nothing baked on premises . it was overall just okay.. hence 3/5 . i might go back because it's close , convenient . Good for quick bite after work or when your not in the mood to cook. Not sure about the take out , the freshly served food already looked & tasted dry , heating up might exacerbate the dryness .Just have to instruct the bartender how to make the sangria better . read more

My first time there with a friend for an early dinner. The restaurant had only one table. The waiter took the order and brought us the soup. The soup was delicious, hardy and tasteful. Then it took more than an hour before we got up to inquire about the main dish. The waiter informed us it was being plated. The food came out cold or warm at best. The clam shells were actually on the freezing point. There was plenty of service personnel, but were in the kitchen doing something other than serving the two tables in the whole place. After the food was warmed/heated, it was more chewy and stale. Needles to say, we were not happy although we still left 20% tip. read more

We live super close and thought we should give them a try and it was the best decision. The portions are huge but we get 2-3 meals out of each order. If you like scallops, they make the best scallops ever and it's over this really perfect garlic spinach. The garlic shrimp is also delicious, it's one of those meals that you just can't stop eating. I also decided to take a little trip on the wild side and try their champagne sangria, which in my opinion you have to try if you go there. I went out to dinner with my sister and our boyfriends. I was extremely disappointed in the un professionalism from our waiter. When he took our order my sister tried engaging in a humorous joke with him about her not getting a salad because she was watching her weight. The young man was very dismissive and when she asked him if he got the joke he said coldly he didn't get it. Fine, but when she then asks for a filet mignon medium it comes out well done. Working in a food industry and owning a business myself I understand anyone can make a simple mistake. Well, we send it back to the kitchen. They cook a new one and send one absolutely raw. "Two mistakes" back to back is not a mistake especially if there were only 2 other tables who already had there food. This is a family owned business here too. A woman comes out an apologies for the "mistake" I chimed in and expressed my frustration and stated this was no mistake and mentioned the attitude the waiter had. The woman offers something else but my sister refused to eat anything after being treated rudely. I hear the woman talking to the young man by the bar and we all at the table could hear him tell "I knew I was going to have a problem with that table." My recommendation for this place is for the waiter to understand how to be professional in a place that is supposed to be fine dining. Also for the "Chef" to do a better job with cooking temperatures on a filet mignon. read more

I'm only giving the first star because the bread is really good. However, the rest of the food is not worth your time. With your meal, you get a free salad or soup, and the soup of the day was chicken noodle. Never in my life unless, I was sick, would want chicken noodle soup from a "fine dining" restaurant. I saw a lobster bisque on the menu but was informed that it would be extra and I would still get the salad anyway. Mind you, I went on a busy Holiday, and your soup of the day was chicken noodle? That was the best they had to offer? I ordered the House Seafood, and if this is what they have to offer as a representation of the restaurant, then I am sorry for them. I was expecting a great shrimp and clams with pasta in a nice white wine sauce. What I received was a mouth full of sand, swimming in what tasted like a bowl of the "fabulous" chicken noodle soup of the day, and pasta that was stuck together in clumps. Not to mention the fact that my family and I were not served our actual meal until 2 hours and 10 minutes after we were sat. I decided to try some of my boyfriend's steak, only to find it was not made at the correct temperature, was incredibly tough, and the sides were lacking salt. They did try to make it better by giving us more sangria, but it was essentially juice. To make matters worse, my family insisted on taking my leftovers to go, since they were so pricey, and the seafood had gone bad and was smelled by the time we got to the car. I came here with low expectations thanks to Yelp reviews and was disappointed to be in the area and not going to Roma or Lassoni but it was a family friends birthday pick so I just tried to be positive! The good: very clean restaurant, friendly but young and inexperienced wait staff that is struggling like every other restaurant during covid. The mini Portuguese rolls were fresh and delicious as well as the traditional Portuguese potato served with dinner. The bad: I made a bad choice of getting chicken Marsala, I know the Portuguese are famous for their beef but too many bad reviews of the filet scared me. The sauce was 100% booze, it ruined the dish besides the chicken not being tender. The rice tasted like mint...terrible after taste. The vegetables were not seasoned. The garlic shrimp appetizer was an oil slick. The portions are huge, but I only took the huge amount of leftovers home to not be rude. I would not go out of my way to return. read more

Enhancing through butter: Just had the chef special - baked Branzini. For years I have had grilled Branzini with nicely grilled vegetables,They were flavorful and tasty. Not this one. This one was baked and placed in a soup of butter. Even the butter was not able to enhance the taste of the fish. In the puddle of butter and fish was equally tasteless steamed green beans and carrots. How un tasty can you more make it? It really takes some unique skill to select this combination - baked Branzini, butter, and steamed vegetables. Finally , add to this a bitter tasting Bluemoon draft. I often thought of Bluemoon is the honey in the world of beer. On a summer afternoon I will never order anything else if Bluemoon draft is available. But this one was just watered down version of Bluemoon with added bitterness. Priceless!!! read more

I will be reviewing this on the basis of their ability to be a restaurant. I haven't had their take-out nor their snack bar so here we go... Alright so we made reservations on a Wednesday to show up the following Saturday for 4:30 pm. When we arrived, there were only two tables with customers and I kind of thought, "That's not a good sign..." So we attempted to check-in our reservation and they had no record of us making the reservation and had to prepare our table while we waited. Four of us sat down and two more of us came in later. While the four were there, the waiter asked us if we needed some time, we said "Yes", but when we were ready, the waiter took his time and we had to call him over three times before he finally took our drink order. Then, the other two members of the party arrived and it took just as long to get the drinks to them. Mind you, we had to leave by 6:30 pm for some prior engagements that we needed to attend on time. But we weren't worried yet. When we ordered the entrees, it took a long time to come out just to find that my shirk steak was basically rare-raw (I asked for medium-well) and my friend's shirk steak was charred and dry...(she asked for well-done but damn! lol). One of our other comrades ordered a chicken parm and it was huge! Enough to feed four people, so she only had about a quarter of it and threw the rest out. Another one of our friends had the salmon, and she had two large medallions of salmon, which was okay, but it was too much for her. Oh, and we wanted to wait until everyone got their meals before we started eating. It look them about 5 minutes longer to prepare the lemon chicken for one of our party members. So I had to ask them to take back my meal to cook it more, just to find out that it was still mostly pink (just rare now). I was unable to enjoy my meal, and neither was my friend with the burnt piece of meat. We even saw the waiter argue with the manager about my meal being undercooked, and it seemed that the waiter didn't want to deal with a large party like us because he took his time serving us. Also, he seemed to be cordial to all of his smaller parties while avoiding us. I say shame on the restaurant for being under-manned in service and not well allocated in resources- we saw the busboys run around like chickens with no heads...the restaurant was mostly empty! It took me to walk up to the manager to pay for the check after the waiter wouldn't take the check after another 15 minutes! And the manager didn't come off as very serviceable either; she just didn't look like she wanted to be there. On another note, the decor was very dated, like "Restaurant: Impossible" dated. The organization of the restaurant was questionable because the waiter there was the only waiter while there were several busboys. So overall, the food was not good and the service was very poor. I think out of the 6 people that showed up in our party, maybe 1 genuinely enjoyed their food. I would not recommend this place as a sit-down restaurant. read more

After reading the reviews left for this restaurant I have to admit I wasn't all that excited to try it, but my friend insisted that we try something new so I reluctantly agreed. I only ordered the seafood salad and was actually pleasantly surprised at the amount and quality of the dish (shrimp, scallops, clams, mussels, squid - all chilled). The service was also timely and pleasant. My only complaint is that the mussels tasted fishy which was a disappointment however every other item was deliciously prepared. One of the better Portuguese places outside of Newark. Staff was very attentive. White sangria was delicious. Hsd the stuffed mushrooms. Crab meat tasted imitation. Mariscada in green sauce lacked flavor but was bountiful. Had enough for 2 dinners. Clams mussels calimari shrimp scallops and 1/2 lobster (lobstet was mushy overcooked) Paella was outstanding packed with flavor seafood sausage and chicken. Enough for 2 dinners. I came to the restaurant for an early dinner with my parents. The service is very very slow. The food was ok, but generally bland. We had the caldo verde soup and the black bean soup as an appetizer. I definitely had better caldo verde. It was all broth and a couple of pieces of chorizo. The black bean soup was pretty decent. For dinner, my parents shared the paella marinera. It was bland, nothing to rave about. I had the broiled lobster. It was overly cooked and had no flavor. Based on my experience, I probably will not come back. Excellent dinner, once again! The three of us had a proverbial feast, starting with warm, soft rolls and a nice salad. For the appetizers we tried the Spanish sausages and clams. Large enough potions to satisfy three big boys. The main event was shrimp and garlic which came with a size of crispy potatoes and vegetables, the best!!! Steve ordered a seafood combo with lobster, shrimp, clams and who knows what else, check out the photos. No room for deserts but they looked awesome. The service is top notch, very clean facility. PLACE is a FRAUD -STAY AWAY The Place has to be the worst place I've been to recently in the area - I dont complain easily but when the place fakes there food charges high prices and serves awful food its extremely annoying! Service: There clearly Short staffed, long waits for cold bad food, $3 for each cup of a flat soda, $5 for peligrino 8oz mini bottles, the food is dry and tasteless, this place is pretending to be a restuarant, the staff seems clueless and extremely slow. The cooks clearly have NO idea what there doing! Food There is completely NO taste to any the food. I've had better food at white castle - The cooks clearly dont know the difference in meat temperatures so expect hockey pucks. The mash potatoes are probably made from a box, dry hard and chewy! Food so over cooked I asked for a steak knife to cut and just had to send it back. They definitely dont understand the basics cooking food is at all! Clearly awful cooks and poor mgmt. Just STAY AWAY this place is a Fraud, after almost sending all the food back not once did anyone come to apologize! The Place needs to close down!
