STAY AWAY!!!!! Wife ordered the codfish and I ordered the chicken. I was told it would take a while to make...no problem. They brought the wife's food out well before mine. Seeing that it was a mistake to bring one person's dish before the other person's, after putting it on the table, they ran over and snatched it off the table. 5 minutes later we asked for the dish back. The chicken I ordered didn't come out for another 30 minutes after that... a total time of 1 hour and 20 minutes!!!!! Unacceptable!!!! Anyway, the codfish was beyond salty. Yes, it's a salty fish by nature but there are ways to counter that in the kitchen. Clearly they didn't get the memo. Seeing that the codfish was practically untouched, we sent it back. The waiter asked if we wanted anything else in exchange, but we declined. And of course it was still on the bill!!!!!!!!!!!! The chicken, even after 80 minutes, is nothing to rave about. We were offered free dessert and coffee for the "long wait." We couldn't get out of there faster. We were told that the free dessert and coffee offer will extend to our next visit. Ummmmm.... I'm a regular patron of Tero's. Tonight 7 of my friends celebrating my friends daughter birthday, we did not complain of the cold food or the lateness of bringing out of the appetizers, the drinks or the cold food but one of our $22 meals was not cooked to order (Pork). Was returned and Tero himself stated nothing wrong with the food and stated he would not remove from check because we did not place a new order because according to him there was nothing wrong with the meal. I was shocked at his response. Is he this desperate ? Who is he to judge? His job is to satisfy his customers. It was his decision to decide if the meal was cooked to order? Who wanted to wait another hour to replace an unsatisfactory meal while everyone else would have been finished with their food? Now I have to agree with all the complaints I have heard in the past. I chose to support his establishment knowing about these complaints . Well after this no more. I'm now on board with agreeing with all complaints because it's happened to me a "regular patron". I have heard from other patrons in the past. I can no longer support and defend him. Now I understand why he cannot maintain staff. We didn't even penalize the wait staff because we did not feel they were to blame although they were apologetic for their leader. Maria for once didn't put her foot down when we know she has the authority. I'm so disappointed and disturbed By his actions. All for $22. He didn't even tell us in advance that if we didn't reorder we would have to pay for the unacceptable meal. Not until we got the check did he mention this. After 7 adult meals, appetizers and drinks. What did it really cost him to acknowledge satisfying his customer?. Who does this? Any reputable establishment would have honored their dedicated patron by apologizing and not forcing them to pay for a meal that could not be eaten. This is my first Yelp review and to post it for one of my favorite restaurants is disturbing but disturbing this was. Do better Tero, and maybe your patrons will be more loyal and maybe you will also be able to maintain a more loyal staff. Had Easter lunch there. They had a small menu to choose from of already prepped foods but I didn't like any so I asked for the main menu. Still wasn't really fond of much on there either. Finally I ended up choose the big seafood dish for 2 and I shared it but I wasn't impressed or thrilled really. The calamari app reminded me of a grease ball. The shrimp in garlic sauce was actually pretty good. My niece loved her steak so I guess that was good. But don't go there for the seafood. Sangria was watered down too. We figured if it was too much, we would bring some food home to have later. An advance decision was made that, if the experience was good -- we WOULD be back to try other menu items. (It was downhill from there.) My wife's soup came out, and she liked it... But she was done before mine came. A long while later, our dinners arrived. They forgot our appetizers, and we told our waiter to cancel them. I believe that the horribly unorganized service stems from a staff that lacks direction and communication; as someone different brought each different part of our meal... And our waiter was nowhere to be found as that was happening (to ensure what we ordered was being delivered with prudent timing). What a shame! They offered nothing to make amends for their mistake except an apology, and lost us as potential repeat customers. We had eaten at Tero's before and had good meals in the past so when we saw an ad for Surf and Turf Night for only $19.95 we decided to give it a try. So glad we did. The $19.95 special included a nice starter salad, a very generous serving of Filet Mignon, a small but good lobster tail, veggies (string beans and carrots) thin sliced potatoes (almost chips) and a nice portion of yellow rice and peas. Every thing was delicious. The Filet Mignon was tender and perfectly cooked, the veggies fresh, good rice and the thin sliced potatoes were delicious. The table next to ours had ordered a pitcher of Red Sangria that looked delicious although we didnt indulge. Al in all l I thought the dinner was delicious and an excellent value and we left pleasantly full. The. service was also excellent, attentive and accommodating. read more

I don't know what happened to this place over the years, but it went from being great to less than mediocre! Everyone used to get their own side salad, but now they bring out 1 scant plate for 2 to share. Pork chops used to be 2 inches thick and now they are barely 1/2 inch thick. Seafood dishes are nowhere near as delicious as they used to be. I have come back here 3 times in hopes things have changed back to normal, but unfortunately they haven't. Well there's actually no hostess as you walk in, gave them my name and said right around the bar you will see the table and we sat ourselves down. To start we had appetizers which were good that's the 1 star. Second star is for the server being that he was the only server there he was attentive as he can be. We ordered our entrees and my meal was stuffed shrimp which was salty, my mom had the house seafood which consisted of clams, shrimp, lobster in a whit sauce with pasta...pasta was wayyy overcooked that if you threw it against the wall it would have definitely stuck to the wall. My nephew ordered filet mignon with no mushroom gravy and medium rare. Steak came out with the mushroom gravy which they took back and came back with no sauce, filet mignon was medium and cold. The manager/owner came by and asked how everything was and we told her and she had no comment and continued to take the plates. Needless to say won't be going back. What an unfortunate name this place has. It in fact is a restaurant with decent decor, and I have never even noticed BBQ on the menu. It is a very well-fleshed out menu though, and I tend to stick to the fish as for the most part it is very good. I have eaten here 3 times in my 3 years of living here, and definitely enjoy this place, though I have never seen even one other table full of people the few times I've gone. My first venture in I had the cod - and I recall it being exquisite. The second time I ordered the same, and it was almost too salty to eat, while the appetizer of spicy mussels found myself, my mother, and my landlord all pleasantly surprised. I dined here again with my landlord a few nights ago, and if by dined I mean gorged myself, well - that happens to be the case. This place serves huge portions. First of all, they bring out bread which is very good - rustic on the outside, soft in the middle - and a small salad with generic Italian dressing on the side. I ordered a dish that is basically all different types of seafood (lobser, clams, mussels, scallops, calamari, shrimp) in a white wine broth (it could also have been served in a marinara sauce) which was very good, fresh, and enormous! This is after they gave us the chicken noodle soup of the day - which was a big bowl of very nicely done chicken soup. My landlord got a similar dish - the seafood special - though his had whitefish and came in a garlic broth, which was even zestier than my own meal. They both came with huge sides of very good spanish rice, way too salty broccoli and carrots (what a shame), and good if quickly soggy homemade french fries. Needless to say, we were far too full for dessert, which is a shame because this place makes a great tartufo as well. I hope to return shortly, and am glad this visit was a success. read more

I noticed that a bunch of reviews feel that the seafood is not up to par. I don't generally consider Teros to be a seafood restaurant but rather a Portuguese restaurant. My wife and I have eaten here about 20 times and we've never had any problems with the seafood. Although, we generally stick with shellfish. The shrimp, lobster, and paella-based dishes have always been fresh and enjoyable. I generally stick with either poultry or steak. The filet and the churrasco are both excellent and most chicken dishes are really tasty. The best part of Teros is the size of the portions. If you order an entree (which range from $15 to $30 or so), they give you a side salad, a soup, a few nice warm rolls to start with. Next, they'll bring out your meal with an ample amount of yellow rice, some broccoli and carrots, fried potato chips, and then the meat. Most entree portions can be split family style. We also enjoy starting off with their signature sangria. If you come for Happy Hour, there are discounted drinks and the bartender will generally give you a few free tapa-style samples at the bar. Overall, its a good quality restaurant that I can always count on to fill up my hungry belly. read more

The staff, on the other hand was terrible! We had 3 different people circling our table all asking us the same questions one after the other and then when we needed something they were no where to be found. They brought us another table's food (there was only one other table occupied so I can't imagine they had much to remember) and then we waited 20 minutes for them to clear our salad plates. Tero's is a great sit down Portuguese place if you're not trying to go to Ironbound. At first look at the menu, the prices were a bit higher than its Newark counterparts, but it's worth it for the amount and quality of the food. Just left a place that I have loved for 20+ years with two of my closest friends. We ordered our usual skirt steaks and appetizers. The steaks came out and mine was over cooked and over just not good. I didn't eat more than two bites and sent it back after having been ignored for over 20 minutes. When we got the bill my meal was still on it. I asked for the manager. He wouldn't come out of the kitchen and said we had to pay for it. They send over two teenager kids to tell me I had to pay. When we told them no and we would just leave the whole bill they finally took it off. We still tipped them but we will never go back. Such a shame!!! Been here on each of last three visits back home with party of no less than 6 each time. Enjoyed each visit. I used to look forward to good Pealla at Le Cibeles (2 blocks away) but since it has closed I set my expectations on Teros. Complimentary garden salad for entire table and fresh hot huge dinner rolls. Great friendly service. Portions are HUGE and everyone was pleased with their meal again. My Chicken marsala with mushrooms was tops Manager came over to say hello. I passed on my own paella this night but tasted another's. Another HUGE platter of seafood pealla. I have been to Teros once before because my girlfriend and her mom enjoy this place. The first time I went with my mother and my girlfriend, and the food literally took about an hour and a half to get to the table. Needless to say the food was cold but I learned my lesson to not go there again. The second time I was invited to dinner for my girlfriends friend's birthday dinner. I did not have a say in the matter but told everyone before we got there my first experience with Tero's. We sat down at 6:30pm and ordered drinks and appetizers. The salads and bread alone took an hour to come to the table. The appetizers about 45 minutes after that. The wife of the owner came to collect utensils because she assumed we got our entrees. Our entrees arrived at 8:45pm. My pork was over cooked so I sent it back and didn't want anything else because at this point I just wanted to leave as soon as possible. The bill comes and my pork is still on there. When my girlfriends mom approached the owner (mind you she is a regular at this restaurant) and asked for the pork to be removed from the bill because I had 3 bites of it before I just couldn't get through the toughness, the owner said it's cooked fine and we'd have to pay for it. THIS WILL BE THE LAST TIME ANY OF US COME HERE. Terrible way of doing business. This place is trash all around. read more
